Abstract Carpenter 21-55N Valve Steel is an austenitic nitrogen-bearing chromium-nickel-manganese alloy which offers an excellent combination of high temperature strength and corrosion resistance for exhaust valve applications. It is widely used as the head material in two-piece valves for internal combustion engines. It is also finding increasing use for one-piece valves in automobile engines. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness and creep. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: SS-176.
