Abstract

This paper discusses the symbolic meaning and function of colors. It is important to identify the national and cultural features, the model of the linguistic image of the world in the national consciousness through the cognitive and linguocultural analysis of the words that reveal the concept of color. The wide range of color names is probably due to the fact that they are used not only literally, but also figuratively. The geo-symbolic, cosmogonic meaning of the colors, which are understood by different peoples and nations in their own knowledge and named in their own language, is not the same in all nations. Turkic-speaking peoples also differentiated themselves, some of whom called themselves «kök tүrіk» (means kök Turks). Like any word that develops in terms of personality and complements in meaning, the names of colors are the result of a long development of each language. In this article, we study the conceptualization of the word "kök", distinguish the semantic fields and determine the meaning of the concept of "kök" in Kazakh language.
