Abstract

Cumulative cross sections of 111Pd, 111Ag, and 111In, as well as of several other palladium and silver nuclides have been determined in the fission of 238U by 450 MeV protons. The results have been fitted to a Gaussian charge distribution. The analysis indicates that the neutron-to-proton ratio of the most probable product, N/Zp, has a constant value of 1·420±0·003 for A = 103–112; the full width at half maximum of the distribution is 2·90±0·10 Z units; the isobaric fission cross section in the region of symmetric fission is 68±4 mbarn.
