Abstract

There are a number of software programs available currently for the design and optimization of reverse osmosis (RO) systems. The most frequently utilized software tools are available from the major suppliers of reverse osmosis membranes. The design software programs are developed to help in properly designing the reverse osmosis systems. Hence, in this chapter, the RO system designing procedure using different software programs from various membrane manufacturers is described. Here, we discuss some commonly available design software programs such as WAVE (DuPont Water Solutions), IMSDesign (Hydranautics), TORAYDS2 (Toray Industries, Inc.), Lewaplus (LANXESS), ROAM Ver. 2.0 (Microdyn-Nadir), Winflows (SUEZ Water Technologies & Solutions), CSMPRO v6.0 (Toray Advanced Materials Korea), and IPSE software (SimTech Simulation Technology). Entire software tools offered by the suppliers of membrane only assess the design of plant utilizing their membrane elements. The different design software programs continue to evolve and grow to meet the demanding system design needs. The purpose of this chapter is to discuss these software programs and their applicability under various design conditions and ease of application and versatility. Various features of each software and their projections are described. Simplified methods to use these software programs are illustrated and the screenshots of the results, methods, etc. are also given here. These software programs are developed by membrane manufacturers and are specific to their membranes.
