Abstract

This chapter introduces the importance of blood glucose levels in the body and the need for the levels to be monitored and managed by diabetics. The enzyme catalytic cycles used in amperometric glucose sensors based on the measurement of hydrogen peroxide and oxygen are described together with an introduction to the potentiostat measurement circuit. There is a short review of two glucose biosensors, the Continuous Glucose Monitoring (ICGM) (GlySens) and the GlucoChip (PositiveID Corporation and Receptors LLC) glucose sensor.
