Abstract
In this chapter, dual modes for ratiometric luminescence (RL) response for chemical sensing in rare earth metal-organic framework (MOF) hybrid materials (REMOFHs) are summarized. Considering the luminescence spectra position in the visible region of both rare earth (RE3+) ions and MOFs or their linkers, the multiple luminescence responsive centers are easily checked, which is favorable for dual-mode RL sensing. Nowadays, dual-mode (two-dimensional, 2D) luminescence response for ratiometric sensing of analytes is very extensive and popular for MOF materials and their rare earth hybrid materials. The chapter gives some prospects for this field in five sections, based on the types of dual emission centers: (1) dual mode for RL responsive chemical sensing of MOFs; (2) dual RE3+ ion luminescence for RL sensing in rare earth MOF hybrid materials; (3) ligand (linker) and RE3+ ions through energy transfer “antenna effect”; (4) embedding additional luminescence species; and (5) single rare earth functionalized MOF hybrid materials for RL responsive sensing.
