Abstract

Aquaculture is the fastest-growing sector in the world. The ever-increasing world population needs to be fed; consequently, the demand for aquaculture produces are tremendously escalated. To cope with the increased demand for aquaculture products, farmers intensified aquaculture practices. Extensive aquaculture practices increased the need for better feed, promising pathogen-controlling agents, and agents that prevent deterioration in the quality of processed or raw products. The major challenge is to cover all these needs in an eco-friendly and sustainable way. In this scenario, beneficial bacteria can be used to overcome the challenges such as efficient feed for better growth and health status, pathogen control, spoilage control, water quality management, etc. The present chapter discusses the challenges that can be overcome by beneficial microbial communities and their application in a coherent way.
