Abstract
Metallic materials are an important part of the industry, so their corrosion destruction is a large problem. Corrosion inhibitors are more effective ways to protect metals from corrosion. The carbohydrates are widely used as green corrosion inhibitors for various metal materials in the acidic, saline, and another corrosion medium. The carbohydrates as natural corrosion inhibitors are less toxic, environmentally friendly, good water-soluble, biodegradable, nonvolatile, nonflammable, low cost, and do not require dangerous technology or syntheses methodology. In this chapter, the type of carbohydrates as natural corrosion inhibitors, alginate, carboxymethyl and hydroxyethyl cellulose, carrageenan, chitosan, cyclodextrins, and gum-based carbohydrates corrosion inhibitors, their main inhibition properties for steel, aluminum, copper, and magnesium metallic materials in the acidic, saline, and other corrosive solutions were reviewed.
