Abstract

In this chapter steady state, transient, and dynamic stability are explained. Synchronizing power coefficient is defined. The significance of short circuit ratio (SCR) is discussed. The effect of excitation system on SCR is discussed. Single machine connected to infinite bus and its transient stability are investigated. Swing equation is derived. Equal area criterion and its utility in the study of transient stability is explained. Transient stability limit, critical clearing angle, and critical clearing time are explained. Fault clearance, reclosing, and first swing transient stability are discussed. Power system stabilizers (PSS), dynamic stability, and small disturbance analysis for power system are considered.
