Abstract

Under unsymmetrical fault conditions, it is necessary to use symmetrical or sequence components to analyze and determine the fault currents. Line-to-ground and line-to-line faults are the common unbalanced faults. The theory of symmetrical components is given in this chapter. The operator “a” is explained. Symmetrical components of unsymmetrical phases are derived. Expression for power in terms of sequence components is derived. Unitary transformation for power invariance is explained.
