Abstract
The fire and life safety codes contain requirements pertaining to the selection and use of medical equipment utilized in an ambulatory surgery center. All cord-connected electrically powered medical equipment that will be used in the vicinity of patients that are not double-insulated is equipped with a three-wire power cord that includes a three-pin grounding type plug. Generally, the codes require equipment to be tested at least once a year. As with all tests, it is important that a facility maintain proper records and documentation.
