Abstract

Two real-time fault diagnosis systems were built into the distributed control system of a refinery plant to evaluate and compare two diagnostic techniques, i.e., the signed directed graph based diagnosis technique and rule-based system technique. Field tests were done to examine the diagnostic accuracy and the performance of these systems. From the results, we recognized that the two diagnosis systems have different characteristics of diagnostic accuracy but both are capable of diagnosing a system failure in two minutes in the distributed control system environment.
