Abstract

In the autumn of 1987, a team from the Department of Modern Architecture, Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, Armenian SSR Academy of Sciences, and the Erebuni Museum excavated a large mound from the Middle Bronze Age at the northern end of the Karashamb burial ground (Nairiisk region). The mound had no pit. Cremated remains of the deceased were found in a funerary area on the ground, surrounded by stones. The bones of many sacrificed animals and a copious funerary inventory, including weapons, insignia of authority, ornaments, and utensils, among which were a considerable number of highly artistic productions made from precious metals, were also found here.
