Abstract
This paper focused on concretely identifying the “Gatekeeping” of TV media that worked in Korean popular music in the 1980s from a theoretical basis. To this end, we tried to empirically investigate the gatekeeping of TV media through the Oral Life History of singer Ha Jibaek(then stage name Jeon Youngjin). The gatekeeping of TV media was seen in a series of processes, including an unknown singer appearing on KBS 2TV's new program <The Birth of Rookie> in 1982 and winning for five consecutive weeks, being selected as a model for a TV CF called the “Flower of Capitalism” as soon as he become famous on the show, and the participation of talented record producers, star-studded songwriters of the time in his first full-length album.
