Abstract
The article analyzes the views of representatives of the liberal political parties of the Russian Empire at the beginning of the XX century - cadets and octobrists - on the Russian education system. Despite the similarities in the proposed educational programs - both parties advocated the introduction of universal education in the country and the need to raise the literacy rate of the population, the specific measures for the implementation of these programs differ significantly. A comprehensive analysis of the key attitudes of party members on the development of education in Russia revealed the unity of views and the fundamentalfeatures of the differences between the educational concepts of the cadet and octobrist parties.
