Abstract
This study was conducted to examine the experiences of loss and the emotional and psychological aspects of coping in middle-aged women in single-person households who have lost their pets. The subjects of the study were three middle-aged women in single-person households, and data obtained through semi-structured interviews were analyzed using Brawn & Clarke's (2006) thematic analysis method. The analysis revealed three central themes and eight sub-themes: 'A New Version of My Family,' 'Complex Emotions Experienced After Loss,' and 'The Process of Coping with Pet Loss.' This study is significant for its qualitative analysis of the deep inner experiences of middle-aged women in single-person households who have experienced the death of their pets. However, it is recommended that future research could explore pet loss experiences in various age groups, as individuals may perceive and cope with death differently based on their developmental stages. Additionally, analyzing characteristics based on gender would also be beneficial.
