Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present a case of a metaverse-based virtual museum based on local history and cultural content. Metaverse type museums have emerged as new platforms for exhibition and communication, especially after COVID-19. However, most of them have been limited to transferring offline exhibitions to the online space or showcasing institutional collections. In this study, we analyze a case that involves creating history and food culture content related to the overseas Chinese community in Gwangju and implementing it in the Gwangju Overseas Chinese Elementary School. In conclusion, it can bring positive effects such as local cultural archiving and multi-cultural education. However, it also points out the limitations in terms of personalization and sharing, which have not yet reached a satisfactory level.
