Abstract

This study aims to design a Dokdo culture and arts education program utilizing the metaverse platform Gather.town, offering an integrated instructional blueprint that merges the metaverse environment. Building on previous research related to the metaverse and Gather.town, and guided by an expert content review, this program was conceptualized around the third stage of learning: exploration, expression, and expansion. In the exploration stage, students were enabled to explore Dokdo in a virtual environment, without the constraints of time or space, and engaged in virtual classrooms where they sang songs to discover the unique characteristics of Dokdo. During the expression stage, learners engage in cultural and artistic activities to depict Dokdo. Lastly, in the expansion stage, students promote the artistic representations of Dokdo they've created. Through this uniquely crafted Dokdo Culture and Arts Education Program, students can experience a novel form of cultural and arts education within the Gather.town environment.
