Abstract

This study attempted to verify the sequential mediating effect of social activity participation and cognitive function in the effect of the socioeconomic status of the elderly on health status. The subjects of the analysis were 3,364 out of 4,405 valid samples of the 8th Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging, which removed missing values for the elderly aged 65 or older. For statistical analysis, PROCESS macro v.4.1 program model 6 and SPSS 25.0 program were used. As a result of verifying the significance of the sequential mediating effect of social activity participation and cognitive function, the total indirect effect of socioeconomic status on health status, the mediating effect of social activity participation in socioeconomic status, and the sequential mediating effect of socioeconomic status. As a result of this study, implications for finding a practical method that can prevent or improve the deterioration of the health status of the elderly were proposed.
