Abstract
This study aims to explore the ideals and current status of institutional research. To this end, a qualitative case study was conducted on professors who have experience as leaders in organizations related to educational outcomes in four-year private universities. The results of the study revealed that the ideal function of institutional research is to perform the role management advisory, whereas the reality is limited to external exhibition purposes. In terms of expertise, the ideal presentation involves providing evidence-based decision-making through data integration management and analysis, but it is challenging to have the right amount of access to the data due to departmental barriers. Regarding the positioning of organizations related to institutional research, it is essential to be placed close with decision-making entities, however, they are currently observed to remain in peripheral. Based on the results of this study, suggestions were made for the tasks that need to be prioritized for the successful establishment of institutional research in the future.
