Abstract

This article examines the transfer of the functional-semantic category of modality in the process of transition from English to Tatar. The research is aimed at studying the verbalization of the deontic modality in Anglo-American fiction and their translations into the Tatar language. Thus, the article assumes a comparative study of the linguistic means that are used in the English and Tatar languages for transmitting deontic modality. Within the framework of the study, the most universal components of the language that are involved in the formation of deontic modality are identified, common modal constructions are listed, and examples of their use in both languages are given. The novelty of the work lies in the fact that it assumes a more global view of the concept of deontic modality, considering this category as a combination of various linguistic means: morphological, lexical, grammatical and semantic within the framework of two linguistic realities at once.
