Exploring the Limits of Transgression and Violence within the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

ABSTRACT Transgression and violence, when intertwined, challenge societal norms and provoke moral dilemmas within democratic frameworks. This is particularly evident in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a significant case study for this research. Transgression, breaking or exceeding societal norms, can manifest through civil disobedience or defiant behavior to challenge oppressive systems. Violence, conversely, refers to the deliberate use of physical force or authority to cause harm or destruction. The escalation from transgression to violence occurs when individuals or groups resort to aggression to restore order or assert power. This shift is particularly evident in protests or riots triggered by social injustices or political oppression. Such events can intensify due to radical democratic possibilities and the influence of technology. Digital platforms, with their crucial role in shaping public opinion, mobilizing individuals, and strengthening collective fears about social change, significantly contribute to the escalation of conflict. They also facilitate the production of panic and misinformation, complicating the landscape of public discourse and protest. In the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, deep-rooted historical and political complexities mark the intersection of transgression and violence. Territorial disputes and competing national narratives drive both Israeli and Palestinian actions. Resistance to the Israeli occupation often involves transgressive acts such as protests or violent resistance, while Israeli security measures, perceived as transgressions by Palestinians, exacerbate tensions and contribute to ongoing violence.

Lingering shadows of childhood corporal punishment: Family trajectories across decades

AbstractObjectiveCorporal punishment is the most common form of violence against children worldwide. This study adopts a life course perspective to examine associations between childhood corporal punishment and distinct multi‐decade family trajectories from young adulthood to middle adulthood in China. Specifically, it examines how childhood parental punishment shapes later family life course trajectory patterns, incorporating partnership, marriage, and fertility outcomes, and considers different sources of punishment (maternal and paternal) and potential gender differences (sons and daughters).BackgroundAccumulating evidence reveals that corporal punishment is not only unnecessary as a disciplinary technique but also harmful to children. This evidence has led to a worldwide movement to eliminate any non‐accidental use of physical force against children. However, previous research often assesses isolated family outcomes without considering family development as a dynamic and interconnected process, resulting in an ambiguous understanding of childhood corporal punishment's long‐reaching influence on unfolding family pathways.ResultsResults uncovered both stability and diversity in Chinese family trajectories, with the majority following stable marital norms. Experiencing childhood corporal punishment increased the odds of an early unstable trajectory characterized by divorce and remarriage. Moreover, the implications of childhood paternal punishment appeared more wide‐ranging than maternal punishment in terms of sorting into normative versus atypical family trajectory patterns. Childhood maltreatment also overrides influences of child gender, similarly impacting future family trajectories across genders.ConclusionThis research highlights the profoundly disruptive effects of corporal punishment on family development throughout the lifespan, carrying important implications for fostering healthier and more resilient families.

CANNABIDIOL AS A FORM OF TREATMENT FOR PATIENTS WITH POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER FROM VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE – INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Introduction. Violence as a social and public health problem, with a particular focus on its consequences, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). According to the World Health Organization, violence encompasses the intentional use of physical force or power, threatening or harming individuals, groups or communities. Objective: To describe the effects of Cannabidiol on patients with Post-Traumatic Stress due to physical and psychological violence. Methodology: This is an observational and retrospective integrative systematic review, with the exclusion criteria: non-empirical articles, non-indexed publications. A total of 545 articles related to post-traumatic stress and cannabidiol were found and only 13 articles were selected to present the results of this study. Results and discussion: The endogenous endocannabinoid system plays a significant role in the processing and extinction of fear memory. Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive component of Cannabis sativa, has shown potential in the treatment of anxiety disorders, including PTSD. CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system indirectly by increasing the availability of endocannabinoids such as anandamide, which act on CB1 receptors in the brain. This activation of the endocannabinoid system may help reduce the behavioral response to aversive memories and improve fear extinction. Final Thoughts: While early research on the effects of CBD on PTSD is promising, more studies are needed to determine its efficacy and safety, particularly in victims of violence. Sources also emphasize the need for greater awareness and accessibility of cannabinoid-based treatments for those who may benefit from them.

Harassment of interns, medical interns and residents: consequences and complaints

Abstract Introduction Workplace harassment manifests in various forms for healthcare students, potentially leading to modifications in their lives and academic activities. Objectives To describe the type of harassment experienced by interns, medical interns, and residents, and its consequences. Methods A cross-sectional and prospective study was conducted, including medical interns, social service interns, and residents from Veracruz who reported experiencing harassment in their assigned areas during their last academic year. Direct and virtual invitations were sent through various electronic means. Results 58 students were included, with 39 (67.2%) being women. 50% reported experiencing psychological abuse, and 65.5% reported experiencing sexual harassment. The most severe sexual harassment incidents included sexual assault with physical force (1.7%) and three instances of non-consensual sexual relations (5.2%), while the most common were sexual jokes/comments (72.4%). Following harassment experiences, 25% of participants reported feeling anxious, 22% stressed, and 17% angry. Students who perceived psychological abuse reported anger (69%), stress (58.6%), and anxiety (58.6%) as the most frequent consequences, while those reporting sexual abuse indicated anger (73.7%), shame (68.4%), and anxiety as primary consequences. The most frequently identified harassers were attending physicians (56.9%), senior students (34.5%), and non-medical personnel (34.5%). Students filed complaints with hospital authorities (6.9%), university authorities (6.9%), and external agencies (5.2%). The individual who experienced sexual assault with physical force did not file any complaint, while only one person reported non-consensual sexual relations to hospital authorities. Conclusions It is crucial to establish safe spaces for students within the hospital environment to promote their overall well-being and academic success, as well as to encourage a culture of reporting. Key messages • Highlighting the need for intervention within the work teams where our students are placed, promoting a violence-free environment. • Annexing a therapist as part of the work team could favor the well-being of students, since mental health is one of the main points affected within a violent environment.

The mechanical journey of primordial germ cells.

Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are the earliest progenitors of germline cells of the gonads in animals. The tissues that arise from primordial germ cells give rise to male and female gametes and are thus responsible for transmitting genetic information to subsequent generations. The development of gonads, from single cells to fully formed organs, is of great interest to the reproductive biology community. In most higher animals, PGCs are initially specified at a site away from the gonads. They then migrate across multiple tissue microenvironments to reach a mesodermal mass of cells called the genital ridge, where they associate with somatic cells to form sex-specific reproductive organs. Their migratory behavior has been studied extensively to identify which tissues they interact with and how this might affect gonad development. A crucial point overlooked by classical studies has been the physical environment experienced by PGCs as they migrate and the mechanical challenges they might encounter along the way. It has long been understood that migrating cells can sense and adapt to physical forces around them via a variety of mechanisms, and studies have shown that these mechanical signals can guide stem cell fate. In this review, we summarize the mechanical microenvironment of migrating PGCs in different organisms. We describe how cells can adapt to this environment and how this adaptation can influence cell fate. Finally, we propose that mechanical signals play a crucial role in the normal development of the germline and shed light on this unexplored area of developmental biology.

Fabrication of crosslinker free hydrogels with diverse properties: An interplay of multiscale physical forces within polymer matrix

Physical/chemical crosslinking and surface-modifications of hydrogels have been extensively endorsed to enhance their biomaterial functionalities. The latter approaches involve using toxic crosslinkers or chemical modifications of the biopolymers, limiting the clinical translation of hydrogels beyond short-term promising results. The current study aims to tailor the polymer's structure to obtain customized applications using the same FDA-approved ingredients. PEGs of different molecular weights have been used to tune the van der Waal's forces, NaCl has been used to alter the electrostatic interactions of the charged polymers, and glycerol has been used to tweak the H-bonding. Same crosslinker-free sodium alginate/gelatin hydrogel formulation unfolds multiple properties: controlled-release, self-healing, mesh size, storage modulus, degradation rate. The hydrogels, lacking in one aspect, displayed superior performance in another. This study, including experiments and molecular simulations, illustrates that developing new materials may not always be necessary, as the same polymeric matrix can generate immense variations in different aspects.

Seasonal dynamics and regional distribution patterns of CO2 and CH4 in the north-eastern Baltic Sea

Abstract. Significant research has been carried out in the last decade to describe the CO2 system dynamics in the Baltic Sea. However, there is a lack of knowledge in this field in the NE Baltic Sea, which is the main focus of the present study. We analysed the physical forcing and hydrographic background in the study year (2018) and tried to elucidate the observed patterns of surface water CO2 partial pressure (pCO2) and methane concentrations (cCH4). Surface water pCO2 and cCH4 were continuously measured during six monitoring cruises onboard R/V Salme, covering the Northern Baltic Proper (NBP), the Gulf of Finland (GoF), and the Gulf of Riga (GoR) and all seasons in 2018. The general seasonal pCO2 pattern showed oversaturation in autumn–winter (average relative CO2 saturation 1.2) and undersaturation in spring–summer (average relative CO2 saturation 0.5), but it locally reached the saturation level during the cruises in April, May, and August in the GoR and in August in the GoF. The cCH4 was oversaturated during the entire study period, and the seasonal course was not well exposed on the background of high variability. Surface water pCO2 and cCH4 distributions showed larger spatial variability in the GoR and GoF than in the NBP for all six cruises. We linked the observed local maxima to river bulges, coastal upwelling events, fronts, and occasions when vertical mixing reached the seabed in shallow areas. Seasonal averaging over the CO2 flux suggests a weak sink for atmospheric CO2 for all basins, but high variability and the long periods between cruises (temporal gaps in observation) preclude a clear statement.

Linking Metastatic Potential and Viscoelastic Properties of Breast Cancer Spheroids via Dynamic Compression and Relaxation in Microfluidics.

The growth and invasion of solid tumors are associated with changes in their viscoelastic properties, influenced by both internal cellular factors and physical forces in the tumor microenvironment. Due to the lack of a comprehensive investigation of tumor tissue viscoelasticity, the relationship between such physical properties and cancer malignancy remains poorly understood. Here, the viscoelastic properties of breast cancer spheroids, 3D (in vitro) tumor models, are studied in relation to their metastatic potentials by imposing controlled, dynamic compression within a microfluidic constriction, and subsequently monitoring the relaxation of the imposed deformation. By adopting a modified Maxwell model to extract viscoelastic properties from the compression data, the benign (MCF-10A) spheroids are found to have higher bulk elastic modulus and viscosity compared to malignant spheroids (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231). The relaxation is characterized by two timescales, captured by a double exponential fitting function, which reveals a similar fast rebound for MCF-7 and MCF-10A. Both the malignant spheroids exhibit similar long-term relaxation and display residual deformation. However, they differ significantly in morphology, particularly in intercellular movements. These differences between malignant spheroids are demonstrated to be linked to their cytoskeletal organization, by microscopic imaging of F-actin within the spheroids, together with cell-cell adhesion strength.

A Review on the Effect of Wood Surface Modification on Paint Film Adhesion Properties

Wood surface treatment aims to improve or reduce the surface activity of wood by physical treatment, chemical treatment, biological activation treatment or other methods to achieve the purpose of surface modification. After wood surface modification, the paint film adhesion performance, gluing performance, surface wettability, surface free energy and surface visual properties would be affected. This article aims to explore the effects of different modification methods on the adhesion of wood coating films. Modification of the wood surface significantly improves the adhesion properties of the paint film, thereby extending the service life of the coating. Research showed that physical external force modification improved the hydrophilicity and wettability of wood by changing its surface structure and texture, thus enhancing the adhesion of the coating. Additionally, high-temperature heat treatment modification reduced the risk of coating cracking and peeling by eliminating stress and moisture within the wood. Chemical impregnation modification utilized the different properties of organic and inorganic substances to improve the stability and durability of wood. Organic impregnation effectively filled the wood cell wall and increased its density, while inorganic impregnation enhanced the adhesion of the coating by forming stable chemical bonds. Composite modification methods combined the advantages of the above technologies and significantly improved the comprehensive properties of wood through multiple modification treatments, showing superior adhesion and durability. Comprehensive analysis indicated that selecting the appropriate modification method was key for different wood types and application environments.

Compressive stresses in cancer: characterization and implications for tumour progression and treatment.

Beyond their many well-established biological aberrations, solid tumours create an abnormal physical microenvironment that fuels cancer progression and confers treatment resistance. Mechanical forces impact tumours across a range of biological sizes and timescales, from rapid events at the molecular level involved in their sensing and transmission, to slower and larger-scale events, including clonal selection, epigenetic changes, cell invasion, metastasis and immune response. Owing to challenges with studying these dynamic stimuli in biological systems, the mechanistic understanding of the effects and pathways triggered by abnormally elevated mechanical forces remains elusive, despite clear correlations with cancer pathophysiology, aggressiveness and therapeutic resistance. In this Review, we examine the emerging and diverse roles of physical forces in solid tumours and provide a comprehensive framework for understanding solid stress mechanobiology. We first review the physiological importance of mechanical forces, especially compressive stresses, and discuss their defining characteristics, biological context and relative magnitudes. We then explain how abnormal compressive stresses emerge in tumours and describe the experimental challenges in investigating these mechanically induced processes. Finally, we discuss the clinical translation of mechanotherapeuticsthat alleviate solid stresses and their potential to synergize with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapies.

Strain-dependent glutathionylation of fibronectin fibers impacts mechano-chemical behavior and primes an integrin switch

The extracellular matrix (ECM) is a protein polymer network that physically supports cells within a tissue. It acts as an important physical and biochemical stimulus directing cell behaviors. For fibronectin (Fn), a predominant component of the ECM, these physical and biochemical activities are inextricably linked as physical forces trigger conformational changes that impact its biochemical activity. Here, we analyze whether oxidative post-translational modifications, specifically glutathionylation, alter Fn’s mechano-chemical characteristics through stretch-dependent protein modification. ECM post-translational modifications represent a potential for time- or stimulus-dependent changes in ECM structure-function relationships that could persist over time with potentially significant impacts on cell and tissue behaviors. In this study, we show evidence that glutathionylation of Fn ECM fibers is stretch-dependent and alters Fn fiber mechanical properties with implications on the selectivity of engaging integrin receptors. These data demonstrate the existence of multimodal post-translational modification mechanisms within the ECM with high relevance to the microenvironmental regulation of downstream cell behaviors.

Tailoring stiffness distribution of tendon-driven continuum finger from manipulation force vector

Continuum soft-robotic fingers/arms have emerged as a promising solution to realize abilities to delicately manipulate objects, conform to various shapes, and maintain cost-efficiency (i.e. fewer actuators and less computational resource). This paper introduces a novel approach to designing continuum flexible fingers by optimizing the fingers' thickness distribution to achieve specific target force vectors for specific manipulations, enabling actions like pull-in handing (retraction), push-out manipulation, secure grip, and gentle object hold. The proposed method employs a genetic algorithm to optimize the thickness distribution of the continuum finger driven by a single motor, resulting in a highly versatile and cost-effective solution. The proposed method includes physical simulations to validate the approach's effectiveness in applying desired force vectors during manipulation interactions. This work represents a significant advancement in continuum robotic systems, potentially impacting a wide range of applications in human-robot collaboration.

Optical Micro/Nanofiber Enabled Multiaxial Force Sensor for Tactile Visualization and Human-Machine Interface.

Tactile sensors with capability of multiaxial force perception play a vital role in robotics and human-machine interfaces. Flexible optical waveguide sensors have been an emerging paradigm in tactile sensing due to their high sensitivity, fast response, and antielectromagnetic interference. Herein, a flexible multiaxial force sensor enabled by U-shaped optical micro/nanofibers (MNFs) is reported. The MNF is embedded within an elastomer film topped with a dome-shaped protrusion. When the protrusion is subjected to vector forces, the embedded MNF undergoes anisotropic deformations, yielding time-resolved variations in light transmission. Detection of both normal and shear forces is achieved with sensitivities reaching 50.7dB N-1 (14% kPa-1) and 82.2dB N-1 (21% kPa-1), respectively. Notably, the structural asymmetry of the MNF induces asymmetrical optical modes, granting the sensor directional responses to four-directional shear forces. As proof-of-concept applications, tactile visualizations for texture and relief pattern recognition are realized with a spatial resolution of 160µm. Moreover, a dual U-shaped MNF configuration is demonstrated as a human-machine interface for cursor manipulation. This work represents a step towards advanced multiaxial tactile sensing.

Intrusion and retraction with an innovative crane spring

Today, one of the most common lines of treatment for gummy smiles is the use of temporary anchorage devices (TADs). One of the major issues with the TADs is the unpredictability of stability during treatment. Additional to the loosening of TAD, gingival tissue overgrowth, especially when placed above the attached gingiva, is a persistent issue. During the process of intrusion and retraction, the point of force attachment in relation to the center of resistance is of prime importance to achieve the correct and required vector of force. This, at most times, is not achievable with TADs due to the interference of the roots of teeth. Thus, an alternative to TADs with the convenience of placing the point of force attachment anywhere in the buccal vestibule is discussed here in. This article describes the design and action of an innovative spring (Crane spring) wherein the point of force attachment can be varied to suit the biomechanics apart from delivering light and continuous forces using looped mechanics. The spring is of a simple design and can be easily constructed. It is highly efficient with intrusion and retraction.

A study on active structural acoustic control using force radiation modes

Active Structural Acoustic Control (ASAC) is an effective method for sound radiation control. To solve the coupling effect or inconvenience problems existed in the application of conventional methods, by utilizing the characteristic of intuitive representation of radiated sound power through force radiation modes, the control forces are designed to make the total excitation force vector orthogonal to each dominant force radiation mode. Therefore, an ASAC method by utilizing force radiation modes is proposed, and detailed theoretical research and numerical calculation analysis are carried out. The research results indicate that the control force requirement can be intuitively obtained through the force radiation modes, and decoupled control of radiated sound power corresponding to each force radiation mode is achieved by the proposed method. Thus, the control strategy and system construction can be greatly simplified, and structural acoustic radiation can be effectively controlled.

Advances in understanding physical and biological controls on eggs and larval distribution in Pacific fisheries: A review

The early stages of fish, comprising eggs and larvae, are exceptionally fragile and sensitive to environmental dynamics and climate change. Pacific Ocean (PO) currents play an important role in shaping the distribution of marine organisms, influencing global climate patterns, heat distribution, coastal temperatures, and nutrient redistribution. These currents reveal significant changes within the climate system. Their variability across different timescales can be attributed to the complex interplay of physical forces. These currents are subjected to diverse anthropogenic factors, exerting detrimental effects on the dispersal of fish larvae. Furthermore, climate change variables, including alterations in tropical PO temperature associated with the ENSO cycle, Atlantic Nino modes influencing equatorial Atlantic temperature, changes in ocean salinity, polar ice cap melting, increasing greenhouse gases, marine heatwaves, and fluctuations in subsurface flows, directly impact the distribution, abundance, and species composition of early life stages. Major Pacific fisheries, such as those targeting Pacific sardines, saury, and anchovies, undergo population booms and declines due to significant alterations in the current dynamics of currents and fronts within the PO. The anticipated intensification of the ENSO cycle, characterized by more frequent and severe El Niño (warm) and La Niña (cold) events as a result of climate change, is expected to significantly impact the early developmental stages of important commercial fish stocks regularly. This review synthesizes the current understanding of the physical and biological parameters driving changes in ocean currents and their implications for early fish dispersion, emphasizing the critical need for research in this area to inform global conservation efforts, fisheries management, and food security.

Temporal differential effects of post-injury alcohol consumption in a mouse model of blast-induced traumatic brain injury

Traumatic brain injury is a prevalent condition that affects millions worldwide with no clear understanding or effective therapeutic management available. Military soldiers have a high risk of exposure to blast-induced traumatic brain injury (bTBI). Furthermore, alcohol drinking is common in this population, and studies have shown that post-TBI alcohol exposure can result in memory loss. Hence, it is possible that alcohol could contribute to the overall pathological outcome of brain trauma. However, such a possibility has not been explored in detail. Here, we combined a mild bTBI (mbTBI) model with the drinking-in-the-dark (DID) paradigm to investigate the pathological synergy between mbTBI and alcohol consumption by examining brain oxidative stress levels and behavioral alterations in mice. The results revealed the anxiolytic and short-term memory improvement effects of post-trauma alcohol drinking examined at an early timepoint post mbTBI. However, extended alcohol drinking for up to three weeks post mbTBI impaired long-term memory and was accompanied by intensified oxidative stress in brain regions associated with memory and anxiety. These findings, as well as those from previous in vitro TBI/alcohol studies, suggest a pathological synergy of physical force and post-impact alcohol exposure. This knowledge could potentially aid in establishing guidelines for TBI victims to avoid further injury to their brains as well as to help maximize their recovery following TBI.

A Kalman-filter based strategy for space-frequency force reconstruction

This contribution presents a Kalman filtering strategy for space-frequency reconstruction of mechanical sources. The proposed approach is based on the definition of an appropriate state-space model, where the state equation assumes that the force vector follows a random walk behavior, while the observation equation is the classical linear relationship between the force and the measured response through the transfer function matrix of the considered structure. One of the main challenges of the proposed approach is the fine-tuning of the covariance matrix associated with the process noise. In this work, it is estimated and adapted at each frequency during the filtering procedure. A numerical experiment is performed on a simply supported beam excited by a broadband point mechanical force to evaluate the reconstruction performance of the proposed approach. Further comparisons with other regularization strategies are also proposed to provide a fair overview of the results obtained.

Ground Reaction Force on the Frontal Plane Directs to the Center of Mass During Gait: Analysis from Gait Database

Category: Other; Basic Sciences/Biologics Introduction/Purpose: In recent years, a paradigm shift has emerged in the preoperative planning for lower extremity osteotomies or arthroplasty. The focus has shifted from the loading axis during static standing known as Mikulicz line, to the loading axis during gait. These methods assumed that ground reaction force (GRF) vector directed toward the center of mass (CoM) on the frontal plane in the stance phase of gait. However, no study has clarified the relationship between the CoM and GRF vector. Furthermore, it is unknown to what extent the GRF vector turns inward from the Mikulicz line. The aim of the study is to reveal the geometrical relation on the frontal plane between the GRF vector and the anatomical landmarks including joint centers and the CoM during gait. Methods: The analysis was performed using the AIST (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) gait database 2019 which includes the data of 10 m walk on barefoot with comfortable speed obtained using motion-capture-system and force plates. The stance phase data of right feet for 162 participants (Male/Female = 78/84) under 50 years old was extracted. On the frontal plane, the distance from the GRF vector to the right hip center (D_hip) and to the CoM (D_CoM) were evaluated in the time period between the first and the last peak of the vertical GRF because this period could be considered as a single stance phase. The angle between GRF vector and the line passing center of pressures and hip centers (Mikulicz-GRF_Angle) was also calculated. Results: The analysis focused on the time period corresponding to 22 - 79 % of the stance phase, representing a single stance phase. Throughout this phase, the GRF vector on the frontal plane consistently directed medially to the hip center. The average D_hip during the single stance phase was 7.6 ± 1.0 cm, with a range of 6.6-9.2 cm. D_CoM was 1.3 ± 0.2 cm, and its range was 0.9 - 1.6 cm. Mikulicz-GRF_Angle was 5.6 ± 0.7 degrees, with a range of 4.8 - 6.7 degrees. Conclusion: During the single stance phase of gait in healthy young adults, the GRF vector consistently directs toward their CoM rather than their hip center on the frontal plane. The loading axis during gait was oriented 4.8 - 6.7 degrees medially to the hip center. These findings should be considered during surgery aimed at kinematic alignment reconstruction of the lower extremity.

Relationship Between Resultant Force Vector Acting on Human Organs From Food Bolus and the Bolus Configuration During Swallowing Using Numerical Swallowing Simulation With Moving Particle SimulationMethod.

This study investigates the forces exerted on organs during swallowing, specifically focusing on identifying forces other than those resulting from direct organ contact. Using a swallowing simulator based on the moving particle method, we simulated the swallowing process of healthy individuals upon the ingestion of thickened foods, which were simulated as shear-thinning flow without yield stress. We extracted the resultant force vectors acting on the organs and shape of the bolus at each time interval. The simulation results confirmed that the bolus originates from tongue movement and is transferred between the oral cavity and pharynx, with each organ's coordinated movements with the tongue occurring at their respective positions, as indicated by the balance of the resultant force vectors. Utilizing the information about the resultant force vectors obtained through simulations, we calculated the physical parameters of impulse, energy, and power. The variations in these physical parameters were aligned with the behaviors of both the biological system and the food bolus during swallowing. The force values calculated from the simulations closely approximate the theoretical values. Furthermore, the forces calculated from the simulations were relatively smaller than the force values derived from pressure information, such as that from high-resolution manometry and tongue pressure sensors. This difference can be attributed to the simulations extracting only the forces exerted on the organ by the food bolus. Force information on organs has the potential to provide a new interpretation of conventional mechanical indicators such as manometry and tongue pressure sensors.
