PROPER NAMES OF THE SEAS: STRUCTURE, ORIGIN, FUNCTIONING IN UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE

The main goal of our research is to collect, systematize and analyze the proper names of all seas that are in the Ukrainian language. The purpose of the research involves solving the following tasks: 1) to draw up a register of pelagonyms; 2) determine their denotative and characteristic features; 3) find out etymological and word-forming features; 4) describe the peculiarities of functioning in the Ukrainian language; 5) establish the defining features of this type of proper names. The object of analysis is 238 pelagonyms, and their denotative-characteristic, etymological-word-forming and functional features are the subject of analysis. In the process of analysis, we used genetic (to determine the origin of proper names), etymological (to find out the features of names creation), descriptive (to determine the extralingual features of pelagonyms), structural (to characterize the structure of names), functional (to describe features related to the functioning of seas names in texts of various styles) research methods and the method of quantitative calculations (to determine the productivity of different types of pelagonyms). It was established that compound constructions (the most productive models are "noun + adjective" and "noun + noun"), formed by a syntactic method, with combined motivation (in particular, locative-, memorial-, and qualitative-substantial) dominate, they are derived from onyms and appellatives. Geographical terms and anthroponyms or toponyms prevail in their composition. Most pelagonyms are ancient, hybrid, lowfrequency, emotionally neutral names that have a known and obscure etymology, are used in a scientific style, are elements of language (not speech), belong to the passive vocabulary, are unknown to the general public, and are devoid of ethnocultural meaning. In the future, we plan to pay attention to the general characteristics of other proper names: both open water bodies (for example, loughs or streams), and such categories as oikonyms, oronyms, or choronyms. Over time, this will make it possible to form a complete picture of the Ukrainian toponymy.

THE EVALUATIVE POTENTIAL OF ADVERBS IN THE UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE

This article is devoted to a new direction in contemporary Ukrainian linguistics, known as the grammar of evaluation. The focus is on the morphology of evaluation. This article aims to present the evaluative potential of adverbial forms in the Ukrainian language. The research subject is adverbs with evaluative semantics, characterized by systemic and functional approaches. The research material consists of literary and journalistic texts and modern Internet discourse. The study integrates two main approaches: systemic (structural) and functional (discursive). Among the methods used in this article, the descriptive method is primary, allowing for the presentation of material and formulation of conclusions; the conceptual-analytical method is applied to qualify and methodologically evaluate the theoretical foundations of the morphology of evaluation. Additionally, the interpretive-contextual and discursive methods, as well as the axiological analysis method, are utilized to identify grammatical adverbial forms that carry evaluative meaning. The article discusses the potential of adverbs in modelling the meaning of quality, evaluation itself, and intensification of features. It is particularly evident in the process of adverbial compatibility with nouns. Among adjectives, national forms of evaluative presentation, especially those with intimating semantics, which represent the mentality of Ukrainians, are highlighted. These include adverbs of manner such as тудою — туди (thither — there), сюдою — сюди (hither — here), as well as diminutive forms derived from adverbs of place like тутечки (here), осьдечки (hereabouts). A system of comparative and superlative adjective forms that verbalize the intensification of evaluative meaning is also identified, including occasional form creation that is common in the Ukrainian linguistic culture. It is demonstrated that adverbs are expressive representatives of the category of evaluation. The prospect of this scientific study lies in conducting a comparative analysis of adverbial forms in the Ukrainian language with analogous adjective forms in English to more distinctly identify the uniqueness of evaluative meaning verbalization presented by these forms.

COGNITIVE METHODOLOGY OF TEACHING UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE NEW UKRAINIAN SCHOOL

The article explores the theoretical foundations of the cognitive approach to teaching the Ukrainian language in the context of the New Ukrainian School (NUS). The relevance of the research topic lies in the advantages of this approach in developing critical thinking skills, creativity, emotional intelligence, and understanding the global interconnectedness of linguistic and national-cultural paradigms among students. The development of modern methods of teaching the Ukrainian language in school requires the involvement of the latest achievements of domestic linguistic thought in the learning process. The active development of the cognitive direction in Ukrainian linguistics at the end of the 20th — beginning of the 21st century has found its place in the latest technologies for teaching linguistic disciplines in school. Modeling studies of educational situations that illustrate the depth and relevance of the analyzed problem are important. The adaptation of cognitive linguistics tools to the needs of teaching the Ukrainian language at different educational levels is also considered separately. The aim of the study is to reveal the basic theoretical foundations of the cognitive methodology for teaching the Ukrainian language and to specify and determine the areas of its practical application in the context of the NUS. The following main research methods were used in the work: method of content analysis of scientific-theoretical concepts, method of analysis and modeling of educational situations, method of systemic analysis. The object of the research is the methodology of teaching the Ukrainian language, and the subject is the tools and means of cognitive linguistics research in the system of language education for students. The cognitive approach to teaching the Ukrainian language in the context of the NUS is a promising direction in modern linguodidactics, with the potential to improve the quality of language education and promote the development of critical thinking, creativity, emotional intelligence, and understanding of the global interconnectedness of linguistic and national-cultural paradigms among students.

Validation of the Ukrainian versions of two life purpose scales: Revised sense of purpose in life scale (SOPS-2U) and specific purpose orientations (SPO-U)

This work focused on the translation and evaluation of the psychometric properties of two widely used scales for assessing sense of purpose in life – the Revised Sense of Purpose Scale (SOPS-2) and the Specific Purpose Orientations (SPO) scale – in the Ukrainian language. The SOPS-2 consisted of 14 items measuring three dimensions of purpose: awakening to purpose, awareness of purpose, and altruistic purpose. Meanwhile, the SPO included 12 items assessing three types of purpose: others-growth, self-growth, and career-focused purpose orientations. Renamed as the Revised Sense of Purpose Scale – Ukrainian Version (SOPS-2U) and the Specific Purpose Orientations – Ukrainian Version (SPO-U), these two scales underwent a thorough translation process by two multilingual scholars proficient in both Ukrainian and English languages, employing the committee approach. Then through analyses of two datasets, the factorial validity, construct validity, and reliability of the SOPS-2U and SPO-U were established. These translated scales provide reliable and valid tools for assessing life purpose among Ukrainian-speaking adults.•Recognizing the profound impact of life purpose on adult wellbeing, the availability of a psychometrically robust measurement tool for assessing this construct in the Ukrainian language becomes crucial; thus, we translated and validated two such tools.•The Revised Sense of Purpose Scale – Ukrainian Version (SOPS-2U) is valid for assessing awakening to purpose, awareness of purpose, and altruistic purpose dimensions in Ukrainian adults.•The Specific Purpose Orientations – Ukrainian Version (SPO-U) can be used with Ukrainian adults to further examine the specific types of purpose, such as others-growth, self-growth, and career-focused purpose orientations.

EDUCATIONAL EVENT AS A COMPONENT OF THE SYSTEM OF LANGUAGE TRAINING OF FOREIGN STUDENTS

The article discusses one of the aspects of the educational process organized by the Department of Language Training at Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University, which faces certain challenges due to psychophysiological and linguistic factors. The former are related to overcoming differences in the sphere of education, requirements and control systems, as well as mastering new social-cultural, educational spaces, and moral-ethical norms of behavior; the latter are due to the complete absence or insufficiency of language training. All these and other problematic issues are in the focus of the tutor during the educational process. These two types of activities are interconnected, as the educational process is aimed at acquiring knowledge, professional skills and abilities, while the upbringing process contributes to the personal improvement of the student. Extracurricular educational activities allow students to improve their knowledge of the Ukrainian language, develop communicative abilities, reveal their inner potential and feel the team spirit. This, in turn, improves the quality of two-way communication between teacher → student and student → teacher.

Preserving Ukrainian Identity: Ethical Cataloging of Ukrainian Music in Soviet Publications

ABSTRACT The ongoing war of aggression by Russia in Ukraine has brought international attention to the conflation of Ukrainian and Russian cultures and identities. Such conflation exists in various forms, at its most dangerous in weaponized distortions of history and pretexts for violence. These two distinct cultures can also be misunderstood unintentionally in ways that appear harmless, even in music libraries. Cataloging the Ukrainian music materials contained within the Margarita Mazo Collection at Indiana University has necessitated an examination of the historical relationships between Ukraine and Russia in general and the influence of the Soviet Union on music publications in particular. Best practices for catalogers, such as appropriate use of controlled vocabularies and accurate transcription of text, are expanded upon to promote understanding and appreciation of Ukrainian music and to ensure access to users who search in the Ukrainian language – perhaps the users for whom these materials are most vital. Librarians must be critical and well-informed to understand Soviet publications of Ukrainian music, intrinsic to which are state control, censorship, and the manipulation of cultural expression for ideological purposes. Here lies a crucial opportunity for reparative cataloging, in which music catalogers can provide authentic representation in bibliographic and authority records.

APPLICATION OF EQUIVALENT TRANSLATION AND LEXICAL TRANSFORMATIONS IN TRANSLATION OF ABSTRACT NOUNS (cased on the material of the work of S. Collins “The Hunger Games”)

The article generally analyzes the translation methods of abstract nouns in the fantastic work “The Hunger Games” by S. Collins using equivalent translation and lexical transformations. This question is relevant for modern translation studies since abstract nouns play asignificant role in the systems of modern languages of the world and are a large group among other classes of nouns. The author explores the specifics of translating abstract concepts in the context of fantasy literature and considers various strategies that can be used to preserve the meaning and emotional nuance of the original. Based on examples from The Hunger Games, the author shows which vocabulary transformations can be used to achieve the most accurate and effective translation. The results of the study indicate the importance of a careful approach to the translation of abstract nouns in the fantasy genre and the use of various translation strategies. The relevance of the research, therefore, is determined by the insufficient degree of study of the problem of translating abstract nouns in fiction from English to Ukrainian. We see the prospects of the research in the analysis of lexical transformations in the translation of textfragments with abstract nouns in the Ukrainian language.

USE OF MULTIMEDIA IN THE PROCESS OF FORMATION OF COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE IN UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE LESSONS IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS

The article is devoted to the problem of the application of multimedia tools in the process of the formation of communicative competence of third and fourth-grade students. The analysis of scientific and pedagogical literature and observation of the work of primary school teachers to determine the place and role of multimedia tools in the process of teaching the Ukrainian language proved the relevance and prospects of the problem. The article analyzes the concepts of "communicative competence", "multimedia tools" in the context of the modern educational process in Ukraine. Psychological, psycholinguistic and pedagogical aspects of the problem of formation of communicative competence of junior schoolchildren are considered, theoretical and methodical bases of use of multimedia tools in lessons of Ukrainian language in mentioned classes are defined, their functional possibilities in the system of forms, methods and receptions of work on formation of communicative competence of students are characterized. The methodology of formation of communicative competence of students is based on the system of preparatory language, conditional-communicative, communicative tasks with multimedia support with the use of hardware (computer, projector, smart-board) and software (multimedia presentations, multimedia editions) is offered. The results of the research of the process of formation of communicative competence of third and fourth grade students with the use of multimedia tools based on the analysis of educational achievements of students (high, sufficient, average, initial) are presented. The article presents experimental data that confirms the expediency of using multimedia tools in the process of forming the communicative competence of primary school students, their role in improving the efficiency of this process.

Translation Studies Activity of P. Kulish in Epistolary Documents of V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine and Chernihiv State Literary-memorial Museum of Mykhailo Kotsyubynsky

The aim of the article is to study the long-term translation studies activity of P. Kulish based on the epistolary sources material stored in the funds of the Institute of Manuscripts of V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine (hereinafter – IM NBUV), and Chernihiv State Literary-Memorial Museum of Mykhailo Kotsyubynsky (hereinafter – CSLMMMK). In a broad culturological context, the significance of his translation studies activity for the prerequisites of forming the Ukrainian literary language is highlighted, but at the same time, he is distinguished by his own translation style and the author’s handwriting. All names of documents and their content, which are contained in library and museum institutions, are presented in the original language, and without any spelling changes. Research methods. This article grounds on general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, which involved historical, systematic, typological and aesthetic ones, as well as methods of archival and source-based heuristics, source studies criticism, textual analysis of sources and information reconstruction. The combination of these scientific methods makes it possible to analyse in detail the activity of P. Kulish in the field of Ukrainian translation studies. The scientific novelty of the study consists in highlighting the epistolary sources (manuscripts of letters, diary, telegrams) that are stored in the archives of the IM NBUV, and which reveal the translation studies work of P. Kulish. In particular, they point to a significant amount of available documents that testify to the artist’s titanic activity in the process of translating works of European and world literature classics into the Ukrainian language. First of all, the process of translation and publication of V. Shakespeare’s works is described in detail from the corpus of epistolary sources specified in this research. Main conclusions. A large number of P. Kulish’s letters, more than one and a half thousand epistles, is accumulated in the IM NBUV funds. The presented set of archival documents shows one of the many creative interests of P. Kulish, the artist’s translation activity during all his life. This can be proved by the writer’s correspondence and all the documents related to this topic found in NBUV. The epistolary of P. Kulish is scattered among twelve funds of the scientific institution, and is a valuable informational resource that indicates the significance of the translator’s scientific and creative work. CSLMMMK funds also contain a considerable number of archival documents (both letters and translation manuscripts) that directly highlight the translation activity of P. Kulish. A large block of documents related to the writer’s name is concentrated in the fund of his wife, Hanna Barvinok. This is mainly the epistolary heritage of the artist, who corresponded with many correspondents of P. Kulish, particularly, after his death. It is well known to publicity that that P. Kulish translated thirteen dramas of V. Shakespeare, but archival documents show a different statistics. Thanks to Hanna Barvinok’s letters, in which she repeatedly noted that P. Kulish translated fifteen dramas of V. Shakespeare, other figures can be ascertained. However, apart from P. Kulish’s epistles, no other relevant archival material has been found yet, that could testify to the words of the artist’s wife. The information component of Shakespeare’s themes is most widely represented in the correspondence of the translator himself. Especially, this applies both to the translation process itself, and to the printing of works in general.

Official Correspondence: New Challenges of Nowadays and Application Requirements

The aim of the article is to find out the specifics of modern official correspondence in Ukraine through the prism of modern challenges, new requirements and standards. Research methods ground on the general scientific studying of the problem. In the course of processing the professional literature of this scientific article, the review and analytical method is applied, as well as with the help of comparative analysis, a congruous research of the syntactic content of phrases in English and Ukrainian business letters is conducted. The use of the induction method makes it possible to make necessary generalisations and conclusions. The scientific study is built on the principles of objectivity and integrity. The scientific novelty consists in determining the main communicative requirements, linguistic and structural peculiarities of modern official letters. Main conclusions. Under the influence of recent events in Ukraine, official correspondence has acquired new features due to the changes in conditions and forms of communication, in particular, it is characterised by manifestations of empathy, openness and frankness, taking into account the fact that it is not always possible to adhere to working hours by maximum clarity of the formulated tasks. At the same time, the existing standards, and the legislative and regulatory framework regarding the design of official letters are being improved. Communications are moving to a remote plane, and electronic documentation is gaining advantages. Along with Ukrainian, English is becoming more and more functional for use. A comparative analysis of the language content of business letter phrases written in these languages shows that the structure of official letters remains unchanged regardless of the country to which they are sent, which makes it possible to create a conventional template of a letter to English-speaking partners and use it. Such typification of texts is suitable for further usage, provides an opportunity to significantly save time for writing similar letters in future. However, the role and advantage of the Ukrainian language functioning within Ukraine remains indisputable.

Reproductive and Adaptive Strategies in Translating Comparative Units (on the Material of the Italian, English and Ukrainian Languages)

The article deals with the problem of rendering comparative units of the Italian language into English and Ukrainian through the lens of the translation strategies of domestication and foreignization. Considering translation as one of the means of intercultural communication, the main research question addresses the effectiveness of the chosen strategies in conveying all the meanings of the original text to the translated language. The study aims to analyze how the above-mentioned strategies influence the perception of comparison and comparative units in various cultural contexts, i.e., in English and Ukrainian translations. The twofold nature of the image underlying the comparative unit might represent certain difficulties due to its national and cultural component or intricate, elaborate associative connections, especially in the case of ad hoc comparisons which are characterized by their novelty and/or unpredictability of associations between the object and its referent. This determines the relevance of the present research. Both translation strategies have their advantages and disadvantages. The data received allow us to talk about the priority of a certain strategy within a certain cultural context / language. English translation tends to reproduce the image of comparative units as accurately and precisely as possible, compensating a certain lack of attention to possible linguistic and cultural patterns and readers’ preferences with accuracy, consistency, and original style, which allow obtaining a holistic and coherent picture in the target language. Whereas the Ukrainian translation gives preference to greater dynamics, using adaptive strategies in rendering images and compensates for certain semantic losses at the expense of «proper», understandable images, which should potentially contribute to effective communication and meet reader’s expectations.

Linguistic tools of manipulation in russian language translations Of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and its “Sisters” resolutions

One of the ways to clarify national terminology and to enshrine correct definitions of concepts related to various aspects of gender issues in the legal framework is using the official translations of international documents on women’s rights and gender equality in Ukrainian language. The issue of the correctness of translations of international documents in general and in the field of human rights and gender equality in particular is not only an important subject of scientific research, but also has great practical significance in the context of Russia’s hybrid war against Ukraine. Russian language is an official language of the UN. All documents from the working languages of the UN General Assembly (English and French) are translated into Russian and used by regional international organisations, as well as by countries beside the russian federation where this language has status of the official or state language. In addition, many translations of international documents into Ukrainian have been made using Russian translations as basis. This also applies to such important documents in the field of women’s rights and gender equality as UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women. Peace. Security” and related Security Council resolutions, in particular, 1888, 2467, 2493 and others. Based on a comparative analysis of the original texts of the above-mentioned UN Security Council resolutions and their russian translations, the article offers a classification of directions of linguistic manipulation in the translation of documents, illustrated by specific examples; draws conclusions about the consequences and impact of the using of incorrect translations on the policy of ensuring women’s rights and gender equality at both the international and national levels; offers recommendations for identifying linguistic manipulation during translation process.

Fine-tuning BERT, DistilBERT, XLM-RoBERTa and Ukr-RoBERTa models for sentiment analysis of ukrainian language reviews

Sentiment analysis is one of the crucial tasks of natural language processing, which includes recognizing emotions expressed in textual data from various fields of activity. Automated tonality detection impacts businesses and helps increase profits by analyzing customer sentiment and responding quickly to their level of satisfaction with products or services. Therefore, the development of tools that will allow qualitative classification of text sentiment is significant, considering that users leave many reviews on various social networks, platforms, and websites in today's world. The study examines the fine-tuning of BERT, DistilBERT, XLM-RoBERTa, and Ukr-RoBERTa models for sentiment analysis of reviews in the Ukrainian language, as transformer models demonstrate a better understanding of the context and show high efficiency in solving natural language processing tasks. The dataset used in this study comprised about 11,000 user comments in Ukrainian, covering a range of topics such as shops, restaurants, hotels, medical facilities, fitness clubs, and the provision of various services. The textual data was categorized into two classes: positive and negative. Following text preprocessing, the dataset was divided into training and test samples in an 80:20 ratio. The hyperparameters were selected to optimize the performance of the pre-trained models for comment sentiment classification, and their effectiveness was evaluated using metrics such as accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score. The results show that DistilBERT requires significantly fewer computing resources and is faster than other models. The XLM-RoBERTa model achieved the highest accuracy of 91.32%. However, considering the time needed to train the model and all the classification metrics, Ukr-RoBERTa is the optimal choice.

Ukrainian biaspectuality: An instantiation of compositional aspect in a verbal-aspect language

Aspect, the perfective-imperfective contrast, is a universal phenomenon, part of man’s cognitive organization to reflect objective/subjective reality by conceptualizing referents of verbs and of nominals/NPs standing for participants in situations as temporal entities, residing in speaker-hearers’ heads and interacting between each other. Aspect is instantiated across languages through two archetypes: verbal aspect (VA) – grammatical, as in the Slavic languages, including Ukrainian; compositional aspect (CA) – complex semantico-syntactic, sporadically dependent on pragmatic discourse elements, as in English. The paper explores Ukrainian language data to, first, confirm that CA, realized mainly as a very complex interplay of sentence components, exists not only in CA languages but, albeit peripherally, also in VA languages, including Ukrainian. Second, to find out how the Ukrainian aspect is realized in sentences with biaspectual verbs and particular numbers of situation-participant NPs: three, two, one. The referents of verbs and of nominals/NPs standing for participants in situations in both VA and CA languages are part of the never-ending process of thinking and perpetual resorting to memory and are not some abstract self-contained system of symbols divorced from human cognition. Phrased otherwise, aspect, especially CA, cannot be understood within the domain of traditional grammar and mainstream linguistics with their naivist notions ignoring man’s cognitive capacity and maintaining, inter alia, that nominals/NPs are concrete/physical or abstract entities. The study of matter is ordained to physics. Linguistics must investigate not the material world but how language reflects this world and other possible (imaginable) worlds. A simple analogue is a woman in a mirror: it is not a material object but an image of a woman; likewise, a woman referred to through language is not a material object but a token of a woman. Hence, NP referents of material things are not physical entities but images of such entities, fully describable, and their kineticism is handled by verb referents, whereby the intricate CA mechanism, which is cognitive, can be observed, albeit peripherally, also in VA languages, including Ukrainian. Особливості вербалізації концепту БРЕХНЯ (БРЕХАТИ) в українській лінгвокультурі

The paper discusses the prominent verbalization features of the LIES (LYING) concept at the level of the Ukrainian communicators’ paremic worldview, covering the linguistic and cultural aspects. The current piece of research is based upon the selected paremic units and displays the LIES (LYING) concept structure in the Ukrainian language, focusing on the analysis of relevant dictionary definitions as well as semantic and pragmatic load, and communicative tonality with specific social factors to be considered. The author finds that paremies conveying the LIES phenomenon are capable of modeling the justification, rebuke, encouragement, warning, reassurance, mistrust, support, irritation, and threat speech genres. The paper concludes that the LIES (LYING) concept verbalization is possible by means of imperative and exclamatory constructions with ironic, mocking, humorous, and pragmatic tonality to be expressed. Additionally, the author examines the relevant linguistic and philosophical postulates of the LIES phenomenon interpretation, typical of Ukrainian language communicators.

Some changes connected with sociolinguistic factors, in particular, the Russian-Ukrainian war, that are taking place in the Ukrainian vocabulary are characterized. The trends of rethinking anthroponyms and their derivatives, which, thanks to the linguistic creativity of Ukrainians, are widespread in modern Ukrainian media discourse and recorded in dictionaries of new words and meanings, as carriers of evaluatively marked meanings and senses, are highlighted. The lexical structure of the Ukrainian language is being updated on the basis of the innovative word formation processes system.

Formation of Ukrainian National Identity: Means and Value Orientations

The article emphasizes that the youth of Ukraine is a key factor in the future of society, requiring support and encouragement for the formation of national consciousness and patriotism. Currently, Ukrainians realize that during times of war, the formation of national identity is of special significance, as the country faces complex challenges threatening its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and distinctiveness. The scientific article reveals contemporary aspects of the formation of Ukrainian national identity and indicates that such a movement is a complex process involving various means and value orientations. Among the means of forming Ukrainian national identity are language policy, education, media, cultural events, political reforms, monuments, and memorial sites. Language policy aims to protect the status of the Ukrainian language as the state language and ensure its use in all spheres of public life. Education is one of the key means of forming Ukrainian national identity as it transmits values, traditions, and cultural customs, promotes the development of civic consciousness, and supports identification with one’s own country. Cultural events play a significant role in shaping national identity as they contribute to the awareness and appreciation of the uniqueness of the cultural heritage, language, traditions, and values of the nation. Monuments and memorial sites play a significant role in shaping national identity as they are material symbols of history, culture, and important events for the nation. In the conclusions of the scientific article, it is emphasized that Ukrainian national identity is an important factor in the formation of civil society based on the principles of democracy, human rights, and equality. Ukrainian national identity is an important element of self-identification and self-awareness of the Ukrainian people, which contributes to its preservation, development, and prosperity.

ПОСТАТЬ МОВОЗНАВИЦІ В ОБ’ЄКТИВІ НАУКОВО-АКАДЕМІЧНОГО ДИСКУРСУ

The article presents reflections on the ideological and linguistic characteristics of the iconic figure of the collective portrait of the Ukrainian Language and Literature Department of the Sumy State Pedagogical University, named after A.S. Makarenko, in the second half of the XX - first decade of the XXI century, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Nataliia Pavlivna Deinychenko in the institutional, in particular, scientific and academic discourse. The scientific and teaching activity of the linguist, who worked at the Ukrainian Language Department for more than 40 years (1973-2015), is devoted to the formation of language stability, language sense and language taste of students and pupils, as well as to the development of language culture of teachers in the Sumy region. The source base is the texts of various genres of Ukrainian scientific and academic discourse of teacher-researcher of linguistic (dialectological, cultural), linguo-methodological orientation, represented in written (scientific and popular articles, abstracts, dissertation abstracts, methodological instructions, manuals) and oral (scientific communication with researchers of Ukrainian dialectology, lectures for students, speeches to students of the Sumy Branch of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, teachers of the Sumy Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, the All-Ukrainian Society "Prosvita" named after Taras Shevchenko) forms, researched by means of general and specific scientific methods: analysis of scientific sources, descriptive generalisation (for general characteristics of the features of scientific and academic discourse), systematisation; biographical method - to clarify the facts of life and creative achievements, portrait method - to highlight the ideological and linguistic features of the linguistic personality of N. Deinychenko. The characteristics of scientific and academic discourse as an institutional form of communication, the functional basis of linguistic personality based on both scientific and linguistic, teaching and educational activities of the linguist are specified. The author emphasises the multidimensionality of the personality with a fine sense, understanding of the Ukrainian word, its origins, educational influence on the personality of young people and mastery of the whole complex of linguistic, communicative, moral and ethical norms of research. The scientific interests of the researcher include Ukrainian dialectology, history of the Ukrainian language, language culture, Ukrainian language teaching methods. The article pays attention to the formation of the researcher, professional on-scientific, teaching and educational activities and features of the linguistic personality: Ukraine-focused, dignity, diligence, versatile education, modesty, philosophical optimism, sense of humour, tact, professionalism, dedication, helpfulness, which corresponds to the mission of the Ukrainian-focused Department of the Pedagogical University, which is approaching its centenary. Своєрідна багатомовність на банкнотах Австро-угорської Монархії

The topic of research devoted to the linguistic landscape is gradually expanding, so the concept itself is constantly acquiring new interpretations. The article considers banknotes as elements of the linguistic landscape, and the linguistic landscape as a reflection of language policy, its peculiar public expression. The issuance of banknotes is strictly regulated by the state, while controlling not only the shape, color, decorative elements, denominations and security elements of the banknotes, but also the symbols and languages that appear on them. Along with portraits of historical figures, images related to the culture and historical past of a certain nation, the presence (or absence) of languages on banknotes is also an element of symbolic politics and a part of revealing the language policy of a certain state. The publication examines the languages that were represented in the inscriptions of various series of banknotes issued in the dualistic Austro-Hungarian Monarchy between 1900 and 1919. The article analyzes the reasons for the appearance of different languages on banknotes of the specified period. Based on the languages depicted on the banknotes, it is shown that the two main parts of the federal state of Austria-Hungary pursued different language policies. The article highlights that, according to the concept of dualism, the German language dominated on one side of the Austro-Hungarian banknotes, and the Hungarian language on the other. On the front side, along with the most important information, which was provided only in German, the denomination of the banknote was indicated in the languages of several nations of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The reverse side was purely monolingual – Hungarian. Therefore, the denomination was indicated on the banknote in a total of ten languages: German, Czech, Croatian, Polish, Italian, Romanian, Serbian, Slovenian, and also Ruthenian or Ukrainian. The article tries to find an answer to why the Czech, Croatian, Serbian, Polish, Italian, Romanian, Slovenian and Ukrainian (Ruthenian) languages were used on banknotes next to German, and why the reverse side of the banknotes remained monolingual (Hungarian). The authors concluded that even states that issue multilingual banknotes guarantee that the state language should be in a dominant position.
