Analysis of Tourism Area Development in Bukit Lawang, North Sumatra

This study aims to analyze the development of the Bukit Lawang tourism area. The research employs descriptive and qualitative data analysis, focusing on a problem-solving approach that is based on descriptions rather than numerical data. The purpose of using a qualitative research method is to facilitate a better understanding of information from the sources used as data, providing an effective comprehension of the ecotourism development strategy being studied. The qualitative analysis involves data collection through interviews, observations, documentation, and other methods. The research findings indicate that income from the development of the Bukit Lawang tourism sector has not significantly impacted the local revenue (PAD) of Langkat Regency as a whole. This is because Bukit Lawang tourism has not been fully implemented and managed effectively by the government. Tourism and conservation activities in Bukit Lawang have yet to be supported by proper tourism area planning, which is essential for sustainable tourism. The land division by the government is currently limited to conservation areas, plantations, and community-owned lands. Sustainable tourism land use planning would make Bukit Lawang a more responsive area. Achieving a sustainable tourism area in Bukit Lawang requires the involvement of both the government and local communities.

Protection of personal data in the sphere of tourist activities

Relevance. The largest share of online purchases by Russians was made in the popular category "travel and accommodation" which requires the transfer of personal data by a tourist. It follows from statistical reports on the development of the tourism industry. Personal data of a tourist as a consumer of services are used in contracts with tour operators, hotels, carriers, guides who carry out individual activities. Such data are taken into account in business processes to form personal tourist experience and customize targeted advertising with its help. In this regard, the issue of improving the mechanisms for protecting tourists personal data is becoming relevant.The purpose is to establish the content of personal data protection in the field of tourism.Research objectives: to determine the state of personal data protection; establish legal requirements for tour operators to ensure personal data protection of tourists; summarize the jurisprudence on research subject.Methodology. The article is based on such methods as: analysis, description, interpretation, generalization, formal-legal.Results. In the course of the study, it was found that the protection of tourists personal data is carried out by the norms of several federal legislative acts; tour operators independently establish a list of necessary information about the tourist for conducting activities and determine the policy regarding customers personal data processing; claims against tour operators with reference to the norms of civil legislation on the protection of personal data as independent requirements are not presented.Conclusion. Personal data of tourists are protected by special federal legislation and many departmental regulations prescribing the obligation to ensure the safety of personal confidential information about the tourist and the customer of the service. In cases of this category, other legal methods of protecting the intangible good in question are used (norms of the law on personal data, administrative and criminal legislation), the explanation for which is seen in the unresolved issues related to the legal regime of two phenomena - personal data and private life.

Analysis of Public Perception on The Launch of The Cisaar-Jatigede Valley Geopark, Sumedang

Indonesia has geological conditions at the meeting of three tectonic plates, which results in geological diversity. So that it can be developed into an earth park (geopark) in the development of the tourism industry. The Sumedang Regency Government in 2024 launched the Cisaar-Jatigede Valley Geopark Sumedang with the branding The Kingdom of Stegodon, based on the phenomenal discovery of ivory and Stegodon skeletons in the Cisaar Valley. This study was conducted to analyze public perception of the launch of the geopark. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with descriptive analysis to determine and assess how the perception of the community represented by selected informants. The results of the study show that Sumedang Regency has the potential to develop a geopark based on the geodiversity, biodiversity, and cultural diversity profiles in Sumedang. The community views the development of a geopark as being able to increase the attractiveness of tourism in Sumedang. It is expected to be able to improve the welfare of the Sumedang community, especially for people in the Cisaar Valley Geopark area to Jatigede. Community welfare can be realized by involving the community in geopark tourism activities, improving facilities, and supporting tourism infrastructure.

Contribution of Community-Based Economic Activities to Sustainable Tourism Development in Busia County, Kenya

Purpose: This study sought to articulate the role of community-based economic activities and its contribution to sustainable tourism development in Busia County, Kenya. Materials and Methods: The study used mixed method approach to collect both quantitative and qualitative data. Simple random sampling and purposive sampling techniques where 429 respondents were sampled from the study population. The study adopted questionnaires and interviews for primary data collection. Statistical software, especially the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and NVivo were used in data analysis where the results were presented in form of descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings: The results of the study indicated that Community-Based Economic Activities (CBEAs) positively contributed to Sustainable Tourism Development (STD) in Busia County, Kenya. There was a statistically significant relationship between community-based economic activities and sustainable tourism development where (P=0.032<0.05). Therefore, development of more sustainable CBEAs emerged one of the strategies for tourism diversification, regional economic growth and sustainable tourism development in Busia County, Kenya. Implications to Theory, Practice and Policy: The study adopted Economic base theory and Network development theory, which directed the need for a collective approach for sustainable tourism development to be realized. By addressing the study objective, the study provided insights to researchers, policy-makers and key stakeholders encouraging diversification of tourism activities through the growth of community-based economic activities. The study recommended for the need by the government to development of all necessary infrastructures and proper policies that promote sustainable tourism development. In addition, there was need by the local communities to embrace community-based tourism by establishing more CBEAs through formation of community-based tourism enterprises (CBTEs) that would inspire the government and other donor organizations provide funds needed for economic growth and sustainable tourism development in Busia County, Kenya.

The Participation Level of The Local Community towards Community-Based Tourism Development in Sopapei Tourism Destination, Ambon, Indonesia

Community-based tourism is owned and managed by the community and intended to deliver wider community livelihood benefits. Sopapei Beach is one of the tourist destination spots in Ambon, and it is visited mostly by local tourists. This area has six tourism spots, all managed by individual local communities. This study aimed to investigate the potency of developing community-based tourism in this area. The study was conducted between July – September 2023. Descriptive statistical analysis was used in this study. An interview, field observation, and literature review were used to obtain information on tourism activity and mechanisms in Sopapei Beach. A purposive sampling method was used to collect the informant to be interviewed. The SWOT analysis was used to develop strategy management for community-based tourism (CBT) development possibilities. The result shows that most informants claim that Sopapei is an attractive tourist spot with a fascinating marine view, a friendly atmosphere, a nice beach, and attractive culinary dishes. There was a small probability of conflict potency between the local tourism owners. The CBT management approach was a possibility to reduce the conflict potency. Participatory of the local community in the local community in tourism was considered fair. SWOT analysis proposes 13 management strategies for developing CBT in Sopapei Beach.

A bibliometric analysis of studies on social media marketing and tourism published in Web of Science Database

With the widespread use of social media, the application areas of social media marketing are expanding. Tourism is one of these areas. Especially the fact that consumers include tourist activities in their social media posts has made the necessity of social media marketing inevitable for tourist businesses. This situation enables word-of-mouth marketing, one of the main objectives of marketing, to be realized in the digital dimension. This relationship between social media marketing and tourism has led academics to conduct studies in the related field. This study aims to reveal the importance of studies published on social media marketing and tourism and take a snapshot of the development of studies on this subject. In this context, 234 academic publications on social media marketing and tourism were accessed from the Web of Science (WoS) database covering the period between 2009 and 2024. The publications obtained from WoS were analyzed in terms of number of publications, number of citations, countries of publication, study type, citation topics, WoS index, Web of Science categories, and most chosen keywords, and bibliometric analysis of these publications was performed with VOSviewer software. According to the study findings, there has been a steady increase in the number of publications every year. In addition, the most preferred type of publication is the article. The country with the most publications is the USA, followed by China. Looking at the WoS index, it is seen that most studies are published in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). When the most used keywords are analyzed, the keyword social media marketing is followed by social media. The study results are expected to be instructive for both businesses and academics.

Pembinaan Nelayan di Desa Binaan Wisata Bahari Mangrove Medoan Ayu Surabaya

Medokan Ayu Marine Tourism Surabaya is a PPM AAL Community service assisted village, which is included in the Long-term PPM AAL Community Service program, and every year is programmed with activities that continue to be provided according to the needs of the community, especially fishermen, to help to improve the welfare of fishermen who scavenge fortunes in Medokan Ayu marine tourism. The implementation of community service activities in Medokan Ayu marine tourism will be carried out from January to May 2022. The results of the activities are: 1) the construction of the Medokan Ayu Marine Tourism Pier, 2) the provision and installation of 2 Gazebos on the pier, and 3) the provision of ceramics to be installed at the pier. It is recommended that the development of Medokan Ayu marine tourism, continue to be carried out until it can contribute to improving the welfare of the community, especially fishermen.

The article presents the results of research on the tourist and recreational potential of water bodies within the boundaries of the municipality of Krasnodar, conducted using the author's methodology based on previously developed methodological approaches. The assessment of the degree of suitability of the use of the city's water bodies for tourism and recreation purposes was carried out according to a set of parameters: water quality according to the main hydrochemical indicators, the degree of attractiveness and uniqueness of landscapes, the development of tourist infrastructure, the intensity of use in tourist and recreational activities, taking into account the principles of rational recreational nature management, etc.; and the limiting factors of the development of the tourist and recreational sphere are also identified (for example, pollution of reservoirs). According to the developed assessment scale, the most promising water bodies for organizing recreation for the population have been identified – Lakes Staraya Kuban and Verkhneye Pokrovskoye. In conclusion, measures are proposed aimed at increasing the tourist attractiveness of all the studied reservoirs, the main of which are aimed at eliminating sources of lake pollution, landscaping the coastal zone, expanding the types of their tourist and recreational use, monitoring the wastewater treatment system, etc.; The necessity of creating a cadastre of tourist resources was also determined, due to the importance of providing executive authorities, local governments and tourist organizations with up-to-date information about the tourist potential of a particular territory.

Complexities of riverfront development for the hilly city of Paonta Sahib in India.

The rapid urbanization, industrial growth, and socio-cultural activities along riverbanks in hilly cities are transforming land use and intensifying water infrastructure challenges. Paonta Sahib, a culturally significant town in Himachal Pradesh on the Yamuna River, along the foothills of the Himalayas exemplifies these pressures due to its religious tourism, industrialization, and mining activities. This study explores sustainable riverfront development at Paonta Sahib, addressing socio-cultural, environmental, and technical concerns essential for eco-sensitive urban planning. A Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat (SWOT) analysis highlights strengths such as Paonta Sahib's strong cultural identity and economic potential, alongside weaknesses like limited water infrastructure and unregulated land use. Opportunities for eco-sensitive zoning and circular economy practices are proposed as strategies to mitigate environmental impacts, with financial projections indicating a 68 million INR annual cost recovery over a 35-year development period. Additionally, pollutant scenario analysis is recommended to support effective water quality management. Findings emphasize the importance of collaborative efforts between local authorities, technical experts, and communities to address the extreme hydrological, environmental, and planning challenges faced by riverbank cities. This balanced approach seeks to enhance Paonta Sahib's urban identity while preserving ecological integrity, offering a model for sustainable development in similar hilly settlements. The proposed framework aims to guide future policies for resilient riverfront urbanization, emphasizing adaptive planning, community engagement, and infrastructure that support both economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Conceptualising Circular Tourism: Taking a Place-Based Eco-System Perspective

The circular economy’s potential to support more resource efficient, competitive and resilient economies is ubiquitous in discourses across disciplines, industry and policy. Despite its prevalence, conceptual developments at the intersection between the circular economy and the tourism sector remain limited. This article draws on developments across the disciplines to establish a new conceptualisation of circular tourism, which recognises circular economy principles while also acknowledging the multiplicity of value creation that exists across a circular ecosystem. The paper highlights the centrality of multiple actors, the importance of places for the consumption and production of circular activity and unpacks the role of social value and its potential to (re)shape attitudes, values and integrate sustainability-orientated knowledge into tourists’ and tourism actors’ everyday lives. By contributing to conceptual clarity, we pave the way to further conceptual, theoretical and empirical work in the literature at the intersection between the circular economy and tourism.

Unlocking the Nexus: Tourism, Clean Energy, Innovation, and Environmental Sustainability in the Top 20 Tourist Nations.

This study investigates the interplay between tourism activities, renewable energy utilization, and environmental impacts by analyzing a panel of the top 20 tourism nations over the period from 2005 to 2020. This research is motivated by an increasing interest in the intersection of tourism, a significant economic driver, and the objectives of environmental sustainability. The discourse surrounding the impact of tourism on environmental health is substantial, particularly in relation to the adoption of renewable energy and the carbon footprint associated with the sector. The research posits that the advancement of tourism has a beneficial impact on the consumption of renewable energy, subsequently aiding in the promotion of environmental sustainability. This analysis delves into the dual impact of tourism, suggesting that while it has the potential to enhance the utilization of renewable energy, it may concurrently present challenges to the quality of the environment. The investigation utilizes sophisticated econometric modelling methodologies, namely the Cross-Sectional Autoregressive Distributed Lag (CS-ARDL) and Nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (NARDL) models, to analyze these relationships. The methodologies employed facilitate a comprehensive examination of both short-term and long-term impacts within the chosen nations throughout the designated timeframe. The results indicate a statistically significant and positive correlation between the development of tourism and the consumption of renewable energy, thereby reinforcing the hypothesis that an increase in tourism activity is associated with a rise in the utilization of clean energy sources. The observed relationship is consistent across both short-term and long-term analyses, indicating that tourism contributes positively to the adoption of renewable energy. The study reveals that tourism not only facilitates the integration of renewable energy but is also linked to environmental degradation, underscoring the imperative for sustainable practices. The research findings indicate that tourism has the potential to catalyze the adoption of renewable energy, presenting significant advantages for environmental sustainability.

Siak Tourism Based on Environmental Policy: Analysis of Tourism Development Opportunities and Challenges

This research seeks to examine various environmentally based international tourism developments with investment policies in Siak Regency, Riau Province, Indonesia. This research aims to identify, map international tourism opportunities and solutions specifically for tourism in Siaknegara district. Research data was collected based on observations, interviews and documentation in the field. Once collected, the data is analyzed by SWOT analysis. The research results show the need to make strategic formulations in order to develop internationally so that it is sustainable. The government’s policy of developing international border tourism for various stakeholders to collaborate has not been well integrated between the central government and the local government. The focus point for Siak tourism development is basic infrastructure and public facilities so that it is hoped that it will continue to increase the value and competitiveness of international border tourism. Siak tourism has the tagline “The Homeland of Malay”. All tourism activities must consider the existence of existing ecosystems in order to preserve existing life and maintain environmental quality. The need for policies and strategies in environmentally based management of natural tourism aims to preserve the environment and maintain the continuity of natural tourism activities so as to increase the country’s foreign exchange.

Urbanization and nature-based tourism development: A case of tourism corridor in Surakarta-Karanganyar-Magetan

Urbanization and tourism development are closely intertwined, influencing each other in multiple ways and affecting the environment and natural resources both positively and negatively. Therefore, understanding the relationship between the two is crucial for devising strategies that promote more sustainable urban and tourism development. This study aims to examine the interaction between the urbanization process and nature-based tourism. The research questions are: How do urban centers relate to nature-based tourism, and what challenges do nature-based tourism face amid the expansion of urbanization and tourism activities? This study employs GIS mapping and secondary data processed with descriptive statistics, as well as Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The results indicate that urban centers play a central role in coordinating tourism development in the study area. The primary driving forces behind rapid urbanization stem from shifts in major economic sectors from primary (agriculture) to secondary (industrial activities) and tertiary (services) sectors. Subsequently, nature-based tourism contributes to the urbanization process through the development of service activities that to a certain extent cause land conversion in the area of tourism villages, which impacts the sustainability of the main attractions of nature-based tourism. Therefore, effective management of rapid urbanization and tourism development, particularly through land management, is critical for achieving sustainable strategies for interactions between nature-based tourism and urbanization.

From mining to tourism: Sustainable management of the former mining area of Tebing Breksi

Abstract Tebing Breksi is a former cliff rock mining site now designated as a geological heritage site conservation area. Since 2014, mining activities in this area have been stopped and transformed into tourism activities. The transformation of former mining areas like this often leads to environmental problems after the mining exploitation process is complete. However, the right approach can transform the area into an attractive tourism destination while maintaining environmental sustainability. This article will examine sustainable management strategies to transform former cliff mining areas into sustainable tourism destinations. Through a qualitative case study analysis and literature review, we identify best practices in designing and managing former cliff mining areas for sustainable tourism. The integration of economic, socio-cultural, and natural environmental factors must be explored to achieve sustainable tourism goals. Our findings show that with strong involvement from various stakeholders and targeted strategy implementation, transforming the former cliff mine area into a sustainable tourism destination is easily achievable while considering socio-cultural aspects. Ex-mining tourism activities provide significant economic and environmental benefits to local communities and the surrounding environment.

Study on driving factors of island ecosystem health and multi-scenario ecology simulation using ecological conservation and eco-friendly tourism for achieving sustainability

Maintaining ecosystem health on islands is essential for constructing an ecologically balanced civilization and supporting sustainable development of island tourism. This study provided a quantitative analysis of the ecosystem's evolution on Hainan Island from 2000 to 2020, meticulously investigating the interplay between biodiversity, tourism, and local economic activities on ecosystem health. Additionally, it simulated ecosystem health in 2030 across four distinct scenarios: ecological conservation, eco-friendly tourism, natural development, and economic growth. Finally, practical management suggestions were proposed for achieving multifaceted sustainable ecosystem development. The findings indicated: (1) Ecosystem health on Hainan Island exhibited an overall declining trend from 2000 to 2020, with a noticeable decrease moving from the central mountainous to the plains area. (2) Variations in ecosystem health were primarily shaped by natural geographic factors such as altitude and slope, though socio-economic factors and tourism development increasingly influenced these trends. In addition, natural environmental factors and tourism factors contributed positively to ecosystem health, while socio-economic factors had a negative effect. (3) Simulation predictions demonstrated that prioritizing ecological protection alongside promoting tourism can positively impact ecosystem health on Hainan Island, whereas exclusive emphasis on economic growth may jeopardize long-term sustainability. This study offers invaluable perspectives for conserving biodiversity, fostering socio-economic progress, and aligning ecological conservation with tourism development towards a harmonious multi-objective strategy.

Sustainable Tourism Management: Concepts and Strategies of a Theoretical Framework

Tourism plays a significant role in the global economy; however, its rapid growth is often accompanied by negative impacts on the environment, culture, and local communities. Recent reports indicate that unsustainable resource use and excessive exploitation can lead to ecosystem degradation and exacerbate social inequalities. In this context, the concept of sustainable tourism has emerged as a solution aimed at creating a balance between economic growth and the protection of environmental and cultural resources. This article outlines the fundamental principles of sustainable tourism management, including environmental protection, social equity, and economic sustainability. Additionally, it discusses various strategies for implementing sustainable tourism management, such as integrated destination planning, community empowerment, and the adoption of eco-tourism practices. Through a case study of Bali, Indonesia, the article illustrates how the application of sustainable tourism principles can yield long-term benefits for all stakeholders involved. This article aims to explore and formulate recommendations for stakeholders in the tourism sector to manage tourism activities more responsibly and sustainably. It is hoped that this approach can contribute to the creation of environmentally, socially, and economically friendly destinations while supporting broader sustainable development goals.

Deposition history of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in tibetan lakes indicate the effectiveness of protected area establishment.

The effectiveness of protected areas in mitigating human impacts remains uncertain due to limited in-situ data; however, atmospheric micropollutant deposition in alpine lakes may provide a quantitative approach to evaluate anthropogenic pressures and threats. In this study, the temporal changes of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) inside/outside the Siling Co protected area, Tibet were reconstructed. The varying anthropogenic impact history suggested that, unlike the dominance of residential activities (i.e., biomass burning) outside the protected area, the protected area establishment significantly curtailed grazing and resource exploitation, leading to a sharp decline in atmospheric PAHs during the middle-1980. However, the PAH deposition increased rapidly after the 2000s, coinciding with the expansion of transportation networks in Tibet. The important contributions from gasoline/diesel exhaust and tire/asphalt dust in this period, as deciphered by the newly developed source-sample similarity index, emphasized the tourism activities as a point of concern for preserving the alpine ecosystem post-establishment. The observed delayed but notable increase in human impacts within the Siling Co protected area highlighted the need for long-term atmospheric monitoring to provide robust and reproducible data on anthropogenic pressures.

Current Advertising Approaches in Tourism: Effects on Consumer Behaviour and the Advancement of Tourism Activities

Introduction: The relevance of the research topic is the need to adapt tourism enterprises to rapid changes in the advertising industry under the influence of digital technologies. In the context of the development of the modern advertising market, there is an active implementation of digital strategies, which allows to engage the audience more effectively and take into account changes in its behaviour. Objective: The study considers the following advertising strategies: content marketing, targeted advertising on social platforms, contextual advertising and personalised offers. Methods: The research methods included generalisation, synthesis, comparative analysis of the types of advertising strategies and statistical processing of quantitative data. A stratified sample of representatives of the tourism industry was used. Secondary data from consumers of different age groups were analysed. Statistics on modelling consumer behaviour were used to analyse the data. The article identifies effective advertising strategies in the digital environment. Results: The study results showed that companies invest 2 times more in personalised advertising and targeting. In 2023–2024, native advertising strategies and an individual approach will prevail, and it is predicted that media tools on social networks will become widespread in the coming years. Social platforms and personalised advertising have become critical factors in attracting new customers. Conclusions: Prospects for further research include a detailed analysis of the impact of automation on advertising campaigns.

Analisis Prioritas Menggunakan Metode SWOT Dalam Rencana Induk Pembangunan Kepariwisataan Kabupaten Bangli

Bangli Regency has a significant potential in the tourism sector. This potential can be seen from its geographical conditions and the state of the region occupied by the surrounding community. Generally, the potential of Bangli Regency mainly comes from the tourism and agricultural sectors which must be paid attention to by the community, stakeholders and government. The government needs to engage stakeholders and tourism actors in planning tourism development and formulating strategies that align with the local conditions and potentials such as natural tourism, cultural tourism, historical tourism and religious tourism, also the government providing training and skills development for tourism actors, such as tour guides , hotel managers, culinary entrepreneurs, and other related workers, as well as promoting tourism activities, which is an opportunity because it can attract tourists to come to visit Bangli Regency. Additionally, active participation of the community as tourism actors is also crucial in developing tourist attractions by involving them in decision making, training and education regarding the tourism industry which will help increase the economic benefits obtained by the community. The objective of this research is to analyze the priorities in the master plan for the tourism development of Bangli Regency. The strategic analysis utilizes John M. Bryson's strategic planning and SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis. This research is a descriptive-qualitative study. The information determination technique is purposive sampling. The research results in the WO (Weaknesses, Opportunity) alternative strategy. The improvement alternative strategy involves strengthening internal weaknesses and maximizing opportunities with the hope of prioritizing tourism development areas in Bangli Regency. Faktor-Faktor Pendukung Dan Penghambat Pengembangan Di Kawasan Wisata Pantai Gunung Payung Desa Kutuh, Badung,Bali

This research is motivated by supporting and inhibiting factors for development in the Gunung Payung Beach area, Kutuh Badung Village, Bali. Gunung Payung Beach is one of the popular tourist attractions that offers beautiful natural beauty and is considered to have implications that lead to increased economic prosperity, culture and environmental sustainability. This research was conducted using qualitative descriptive data and used qualitative descriptive analysis obtained from observations, interviews, literature studies and documentation. Likewise, the technique for determining informants used was a purposive sampling technique. The research results show that the Gunung Payung beach in Kutuh Badung village, Bali, is well prepared in preparing a destination which can be seen from the tourism component. The attractions, accessibility and amenities of this beach are very easy to access and offers many accommodation and transportation options. Other facilities include parking, toilets, direction signs and restaurants. It offers stunning views, unique beaches and tranquility as well as cheap entrance tickets. The supporting factor for development in the Gunung Payung Beach area is the existence of important internal factors that make a major contribution to the development of the area. Support and collaboration between community members played a major role in the success of establishing this tourist destination. There are no specific factors inhibiting development in the Gunung Payung Beach area, Kutuh Badung village, Bali, but the construction costs are due to the fact that it was used for other purposes during the Covid-19 pandemic. Gunung Payung Beach, Kutuh Village, Badung, Bali can be concluded as a sustainable tourist destination, where there is still a development process every year to develop the area into an established destination.
