Development and application of a protocol for extractables profiling from central venous catheters in neonates

Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC-lines) used in neonatology are made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) or silicone. These materials usually contain substances that may leach into drug vehicles or blood. In this extractables study, we determined the optimal extraction conditions using TPU films containing defined amounts of butylhydroxytoluene (BHT) and then applied them on unused and explanted PICC-lines. Maceration and sonication tests were carried out with hexane, acetone and water as the extraction solvents. The analyses were performed using gas and liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry detectors, as well as inductive coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy to detect a wide range of extractables. We selected a limited list of substances to be sought from the usual adjuvants and monomers, related to their carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic properties and/or existence in endocrine disruptors lists. The TPU-film experiments showed that acetone was slightly better than hexane, and maceration better than sonication. When applied to PICC-lines, the extraction methods were almost similar but acetone was clearly better than hexane for TPU. From the 48 peaks initially observed in GC-MS, we ended up with 37 peaks to follow in TPU PICC-lines, among which were those of BHT and 4,4′-Methylenebis(cyclohexyl isocyanate) isomers. For silicone PICC-lines, out of 41 peaks initially observed in GC-MS, we followed 20 peaks, most of them being identified as cyclosiloxanes. Barium was the main inorganic element extracted for both PICC-lines. For TPU PICC-lines, the inter-batch variability was higher than for intra-batch, but in silicone devices both were similar. When compared to new PICC-lines, explanted TPU PICC-lines extracted peaks had a lower area under the curve (AUC), while the AUCs of the peaks were higher for the majority of silicone PICC-lines extract compounds. No identified substances were detected above their toxicological threshold, but isocyanates and cyclosiloxanes toxicity was mostly studied for other exposition routes than intravenous. The methods defined in this study were efficient in producing extractable profiles from both PICC-lines.

Printed Self-Healing Stretchable Electronics for Bio-signal Monitoring and Intelligent Packaging.

Integrating self-healing capabilities into printed stretchable electronic devices is important for improving performance and extending device life. However, achieving printed self-healing stretchable electronic devices with excellent device-level healing ability and stretchability while maintaining outstanding electrical performance remains challenging. Herein, a series of printed device-level self-healing stretchable electronic devices is achieved by depositing liquid metal/silver fractal dendrites/polystyrene-block-polyisoprene-block-polystyrene (LM/Ag FDs/SIS) conductive inks onto a self-healing thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film via screen printing method. Owing to the fluidic properties of the LM and the interfacial hydrogen bonding and disulfide bonds of TPU, the as-obtained stretchable electronic devices maintain good electronic properties under strain and exhibit device-level self-healing properties without external stimulation. Printed self-healing stretchable electrodes possess high electrical conductivity (1.6×105Sm-1), excellent electromechanical properties, and dynamic stability, with only a 2.5-fold increase in resistance at 200% strain, even after a complete cut and re-healing treatment. The printed self-healing capacitive stretchable strain sensor shows good linearity (R2 ≈0.9994) in a wide sensing range (0%-200%) and is successfully applied to bio-signal detection. Furthermore, the printed self-healing electronic smart label is designed and can be used for real-time environmental monitoring, which exhibits promising potential for practical application in food preservation packaging.

Development of high‐performance zinc stannate based multifunctional thermoplastic polyurethane nanocomposite films

AbstractA lot of demand exists for multifunctional TPU that can provide enhanced performance to address a variety of inflatable application needs. To develop multifunctional nanocomposite films for such uses, synthesized zinc stannate (ZnSnO3) nanoparticles are integrated for the first time in a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) matrix. ZnSnO3 was synthesized using hydrothermal method. The morphological analysis vividly displayed the nanocubic structures. As‐synthesized nano ZnSnO3 was added as a nanofiller at varied concentration from 2 to 10 wt% in TPU and nanocomposite films were prepared by solvent intercalation and casting method. These films were thoroughly examined for their multifunctional properties such as UV protection, helium gas barrier and infrared emissivity. Mean value of UV protection factor was improved by 75% at 10 wt% loading of ZnSnO3 whereas 23% improvement was observed in helium gas barrier. Moreover, a good correlation of experimental data with various theoretical models of gas permeability was obtained at lower volume fraction of ZnSnO3. IR emissivity value also showed improvement from 0.802 to 0.842. Thus, the developed TPU‐ZnSnO3 nanocomposite films exhibited a significant improvement in multiple functional properties with improved tensile strength at optimized loading of 6 wt% of ZnSnO3.Highlights UPF mean value of ZnSnO3 incorporated TPU film has been improved by 67%. Helium gas barrier has been improved by approximately 23% at 6 wt% loading. TPU film exhibited improved properties at optimized loading of 6 wt% of ZnSnO3. Nanocomposite TPU film can be employed in various weathering inflatables.

Online structural health monitoring of polymer composite structure using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)

A mechanism for online structural health monitoring of composite structure was established by developing highly sensitive strain gauges based on colloidal Gold Nano Particles (AuNPs). They were synthesized using well known Turkevich-Frens method followed by phase transfer in chloroform using surfactant Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). Flexible Strain gauges / smart sensors were formed by mixing colloidal AuNPs-chloroform solution in polystyrene (PS) – chloroform solution and depositing their thick paste on hand-made flexible thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film. These sensors were used as strain gauges on composite substrates for tensile testing. The developed AuNP based strain gauges were found to have 10 times higher sensitivity than normal metal foil strain gauges.

Application of Multilayered Blend Films as Soft, Stretchable, Self‐Adhesive, and Self‐Healing Absorption‐Dominant EMI Shielding and Microwave Absorber

AbstractSolution‐processable organic conductor–supramolecular elastomer blends are emerging materials for intrinsically stretchable and autonomously self‐healing organic electronics. Herein, the feasibility of a heterogenous multiphase polymer blend is demonstrated for soft, ultraflexible, self‐adhesive, and self‐healing multilayered film structures for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and microwave absorber (MWA) purposes. The developed soft multilayered films achieve a 5–40 fold improvement in the thickness of the MWA compared to the current state‐of‐the‐art. The thickness normalized reflection loss (RL) is up to 65.26 dB mm−1 with 8.5 GHz bandwidth at 18–26.5 GHz. The maximum thickness normalized EMI shielding effectiveness peaks at up to 175 dB mm−1. The EMI shielding and MWA properties are maintainable up to 150% tensile strain with only a small decrease in the overall attenuation and RL. Furthermore, the developed films are capable of fully autonomously self‐healing and achieve a tough adhesion in temperatures of −30–145 °C, and underwater with maximum single‐lap shear adhesion strength of ≈481.5 kPa to soft thermoplastic polyurethane films. Thus, the developed multilayered films can be utilized for absorption‐dominant EMI shielding or MWA purposes as stretchable coatings. The developed materials also show considerable potential for emerging damage and puncture‐resistant organic soft electronics with autonomous material‐level self‐healing.

Self‐Powered Underwater Pressing and Position Sensing and Autonomous Object Grasping with a Porous Thermoplastic Polyurethane Film Sensor

AbstractMost flexible ionic tactile sensors can hardly be used in deep sea due to their poor antiswelling and anticompression properties under high hydrostatic pressure. To achieve pressure and position sensing under high hydrostatic pressure, a self‐powered underwater tactile sensor made of a porous thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film is presented in this paper. The sensor works by generating an electric current due to the different moving velocities of ions in the porous film under pressing. Experimental results show that the magnitude of the generated current signal increases with the applied pressure, the contacting area, and ion concentration of the solution. The direction and magnitude of the current signal depend on the pressing position of the film. The signal magnitude decreased with the closer to the center of the film. The maximum pressure sensitivity and positioning resolution are 0.62 kPa−1 and 1.31 mm respectively. Response time (0.19 s), 0.67 s recovery time, and 50–600 kPa pressure detection range are achieved. In addition, the signal magnitude is decreased only by 15.53% when the sensor is placed underwater at a simulated depth of 100 m. Proof of concept demonstration of underwater autonomously grasping objects of different weights with this sensor is successfully achieved.

Polyurethane composite films with self-assembled graphene fluoride: Constructing conductive pathways for thermal management with electrical insulation

Polymer composites incorporating carbon-based fillers have been demonstrated to have high thermal conductivity (TC), yet their high electrical conductivity restricts their utility in electronic devices. As a solution to this issue, we report graphene fluoride (GF) incorporated thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composites that are both thermally conductive and electrically insulating. The TPU composites, engineered for both high TC and electrical insulation while maintaining flexibility, were fabricated using a combination of electrospinning, dip-coating, and hot-pressing techniques. This study aimed to investigate the effects of various dip-coating cycles on the in-plane thermal conductivity (λ∥) of GF@TPU composites. Noticeably, GF@TPU composites exhibited an outstanding TC, reaching up to 13.5 W m−1 K−1 with 10 vol% GF loading, marking a 75-fold increase compared to the neat TPU films. Moreover, the GF@TPU composites exhibited an electrically insulating property of 6.5 × 1010 Ω/m. This work provides a promising strategy to make thermally conductive composites with electrical insulation for thermal management in smart electronics.

Surface Properties of a Biocompatible Thermoplastic Polyurethane and Its Anti-Adhesive Effect against E. coli and S. aureus.

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is a polymer used in a variety of fields, including medical applications. Here, we aimed to verify if the brush and bar coater deposition techniques did not alter TPU properties. The topography of the TPU-modified surfaces was studied via AFM demonstrating no significant differences between brush and bar coater-modified surfaces, compared to the un-modified TPU (TPU Film). The effect of the surfaces on planktonic bacteria, evaluated by MTT assay, demonstrated their anti-adhesive effect on E. coli, while the bar coater significantly reduced staphylococcal planktonic adhesion and both bacterial biofilms compared to other samples. Interestingly, Pearson's R coefficient analysis showed that Ra roughness and Haralick's correlation feature were trend predictors for planktonic bacterial cells adhesion. The surface adhesion property was evaluated against NIH-3T3 murine fibroblasts by MTT and against human fibrinogen and human platelet-rich plasma by ELISA and LDH assay, respectively. An indirect cytotoxicity experiment against NIH-3T3 confirmed the biocompatibility of the TPUs. Overall, the results indicated that the deposition techniques did not alter the antibacterial and anti-adhesive surface properties of modified TPU compared to un-modified TPU, nor its bio- and hemocompatibility, confirming the suitability of TPU brush and bar coater films in the biomedical and pharmaceutical fields.

A 3D-Printed Piezoelectric Microdevice for Human Energy Harvesting for Wearable Biosensors.

The human body is a source of multiple types of energy, such as mechanical, thermal and biochemical, which can be scavenged through appropriate technological means. Mechanical vibrations originating from contraction and expansion of the radial artery represent a reliable source of displacement to be picked up and exploited by a harvester. The continuous monitoring of physiological biomarkers is an essential part of the timely and accurate diagnosis of a disease with subsequent medical treatment, and wearable biosensors are increasingly utilized for biomedical data acquisition of important biomarkers. However, they rely on batteries and their replacement introduces a discontinuity in measured signals, which could be critical for the patients and also causes discomfort. In the present work, the research into a novel 3D-printed wearable energy harvesting platform for scavenging energy from arterial pulsations via a piezoelectric material is described. An elastic thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film, which forms an air chamber between the skin and the piezoelectric disc electrode, was introduced to provide better adsorption to the skin, prevent damage to the piezoelectric disc and electrically isolate components in the platform from the human body. Computational fluid dynamics in the framework of COMSOL Multiphysics 6.1 software was employed to perform a series of coupled time-varying simulations of the interaction among a number of associated physical phenomena. The mathematical model of the harvester was investigated computationally, and quantification of the output energy and power parameters was used for comparisons. A prototype wearable platform enclosure was designed and manufactured using fused filament fabrication (FFF). The influence of the piezoelectric disc material and its diameter on the electrical output were studied and various geometrical parameters of the enclosure and the TPU film were optimized based on theoretical and empirical data. Physiological data, such as interdependency between the harvester skin fit and voltage output, were obtained.

Harnessing HfO2 Nanoparticles for Wearable Tumor Monitoring and Sonodynamic Therapy in Advancing Cancer Care.

Addressing the critical requirement for real-time monitoring of tumor progression in cancer care, this study introduces an innovative wearable platform. This platform employs a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film embedded with hafnium oxide nanoparticles (HfO2 NPs) to facilitate dynamic tracking of tumor growth and regression in real time. Significantly, the synthesized HfO2 NPs exhibit promising characteristics as effective sonosensitizers, holding the potential to efficiently eliminate cancer cells through ultrasound irradiation. The TPU-HfO2 film, acting as a dielectric elastomer (DE) strain sensor, undergoes proportional deformation in response to changes in the tumor volume, thereby influencing its electrical impedance. This distinctive behavior empowers the DE strain sensor to continuously and accurately monitor alterations in tumor volume, determining the optimal timing for initiating HfO2 NP treatment, optimizing dosages, and assessing treatment effectiveness. Seamless integration with a wireless system allows instant transmission of detected electrical impedances to a smartphone for real-time data processing and visualization, enabling immediate patient monitoring and timely intervention by remote medical staff. By combining the dynamic tumor monitoring capabilities of the TPU-HfO2 film with the sonosensitizer potential of HfO2 NPs, this approach propels cancer care into the realm of telemedicine, representing a significant advancement in patient treatment.

Grafting of Poly(N-Vinylcaprolactam) in polyurethane by gamma radiation

Poly (N-vinylcaprolactam) (PNVCL) is a thermoresponsive, biocompatible, non-toxic polymer with a phase transition temperature from hydrophilic to hydrophobic state (Tpt) close to the physiological one. This temperature is influenced by PNVCL molar mass and its copolymerization. In this work, gamma radiation at doses of 5 and 20 kGy was used to graft PNVCL chains onto films of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). PNVCL homopolymers were also developed by gamma radiation at the same conditions. The materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), viscometry and thermogravimetric analaysis (TGA). PNVCL grafting enabled thermoresponsive character to TPU films, as observed by changes in water-surface contact angles above and below Tpt. The Tpt of the developed homopolymers determined by cloud point and rheological analysis was close to 30 °C. These results demonstrated the feasibility of developing a graft copolymer with thermoresponsive properties, with the innovation of grafting PNVCL onto TPU films using gamma radiation.

Constructing interconnected network of MWCNT and BNNS in electrospun TPU films: Achieving excellent thermal conduction yet electrical insulation properties

Thermal management materials with excellent thermal conductivity (TC) and electrical insulation are highly favorable in the modern integrated electronic areas. Herein, an interconnected network of multi-walled carbon nanotubes@boron nitride nanoplatelets (MWCNT@BNNS) in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composite film was constructed through the electrospinning and electrospraying method, followed by hot-pressing process. Most of MWCNT were oriented along the electrospun TPU fibers and wrapped inside the fibers to maintain the insulation properties at the content of 5 wt%. Furthermore, BNNS were attached onto the surface of 1D TPU/5MWCNT fibers and connected with MWCNT to achieve both high TC and excellent electrical insulation. The obtained TPU/5MWCNT@40BNNS composite film exhibited excellent in-plane TC of 9.99 W/(m·K), indicating the excellent heat dissipation capacity than TPU@40BNNS composite films. Additionally, the composite film also displayed remarkable electrical insulating properties (about 1013 Ω cm) and excellent flexibility. This work provides more immense potential applications in the next-generation flexible electronic equipment.

Development of Thermoplastic Polyurethane Films for the Replacement of Corneal Endothelial Function of Transparency Maintenance.

Endothelial keratoplasty is the main surgical procedure for treating corneal endothelial dysfunction (CED), which is limited by the global shortage of donor corneas. Herein, we developed and evaluated the modified thermoplastic polyurethane (M-TPU) films with gelatin-glycidyl methacrylate to replace the corneal endothelial function and maintain corneal transparency. The films displayed comparable light transmission characteristics with normal corneas and clinically favorable mechanical properties for surgical manipulation. After surface modification, the hydrophilicity and biocompatibility of M-TPU films were significantly improved. In the rabbit CED model, the M-TPU implants exhibited firm adhesion to the exposed stromal surface. The rabbit corneal transparency and thickness could be restored completely within 1 week of M-TPU film implantation. There was no significant inflammatory reaction and immune rejection during the follow-up of 1 month. Proteomic analysis suggested that the complement inhibition, the increase of mineral absorption, and the decrease of P53 apoptosis signaling pathway and lysine degradation might be beneficial in maintaining the corneal transparency. Overall, our study demonstrated the potential of M-TPU films as artificial implants for the replacement of corneal endothelial function to restore corneal thickness and transparency.

Rational Design, Synthesis, and Structure-Property Relationship Studies of a Library of Thermoplastic Polyurethane Films as an Effective and Scalable Encapsulation Material for Perovskite Solar Cells.

Hybrid organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite solar cell (PSC) technology is experiencing rapid growth due to its simple solution chemistry, high power conversion efficiency (PCE), and potential for low-cost mass production. Nevertheless, the primary obstacle preventing the upscaling and widespread outdoor deployment of PSC technology is the poor long-term device stability, which stems from the inherent instability of perovskite materials in the presence of oxygen and moisture. To address this issue, in this work, we have synthesized a series of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) through a rational design by utilizing polyols having different molecular weights and diverse isocyanates (aromatic and aliphatic). Thorough characterization of these TPUs (ASTM and ISO standards) along with structure-property relationship studies were carried out for the first time and were then used as the encapsulation material for PSCs. The prepared TPUs were robust and adhered well with the glass substrate, and the use of low temperature during the encapsulation process avoided the degradation of the perovskite absorber and other organic layers in the device stack. The encapsulated devices retained more than 93% of their initial power conversion efficiency (PCE) for over 1000 h after exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as high relative humidity (80 ± 5% RH). Furthermore, the encapsulated perovskite absorbers showed remarkable stability when they were soaked in water. This article demonstrates the potential of TPU as a suitable and easily scalable encapsulant for PSCs and pave the way for extending the lifetime and commercialization of PSCs.

Development and Performance Evaluation of Stretchable Silver Pastes for Screen Printing on Thermoplastic Polyurethane Films

Efficient, stretchable wiring electrodes are achieved when the resistance change during expansion and contraction is minimal. Herein, we prepared silver pastes specifically designed for screen printing on thermoplastic polyurethane films; they exhibit minimal resistance changes. The pastes were prepared using silver particles with sizes of 2 and 7 μm as well as a mixture of 2 and 7 μm silver particles (50:50 wt%). These pastes were analyzed using methods such as rheological measurements, thermogravimetric analysis, printability tests, tensile and torsion tests, and light-emitting diode (LED) tests. The most promising results were obtained when exclusively using 2 μm silver flake particles. The pastes demonstrated a viscosity of 24,880 cps, a thixotropic index value of 2.82, excellent printability, and consistent resistance measurements even after 100% stretch, thus indicating exceptional tensile properties. Moreover, the pastes exhibited substantial stability, with no change in brightness after the attachment of seven LEDs at 20% tension.

The influence of phase morphology of polycarbonate/polyethersulfone blends on the failure behavior between the blends and polyurethane in the peel test

AbstractIn peel, tests between polycarbonate/polyethersulfone (PC/PES) blends with different compositions and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films with different thicknesses a large decrease in energy release rate is observed when the PC/PES blends formed a co‐continuous structure. With SEM analysis, XRD measurements, selective PC etching of failed samples, and finite element modeling of the stress distributions in the co‐continuous region this fracture behavior can be explained. It is caused by the interplay between the formation of the main crack in the process zone and the size and density of microcracks in the energy dissipation zone. While the pure components PC and PES exhibit good adhesion to the TPU, the immiscibility of PC and PES causes the steady decrease of with increasing volume fraction of the minor phase.

Passive‐cooling mica‐TiO2/thermoplastic polyurethane films with enhanced gas‐barrier property

AbstractPassive cooling technology is currently a hot research topic because it can achieve cooling without external energy input, significantly reduce cooling costs and mitigate global warming. At present, passive cooling technology is mainly used in construction, transportation, electronic equipment, and other fields, but most passive cooling materials do not have gas barrier performance, which limits the application of passive cooling technology in inflatable structures such as gas film buildings, blimp bladders and other fields, so a material that has both passive cooling and gas barrier performance is needed. In this paper, PXTPU composites were prepared by melt blending mica‐TiO2 with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). PXTPU not only achieves passive cooling above 10°C with the excellent reflectivity of TiO2 in mica‐TiO2, but also achieves 61.1% or even 74.5% enhancement of gas barrier capacity with the high orientation of lamellar mica in mica‐TiO2. In addition, PXTPU also exhibited good thermal stability and mechanical properties exceeding 31.2 MPa breaking strength and 210.6% breaking elongation. Therefore, PXTPU composites show great potential in inflatable structures for outdoor work, expanding the application field of passive cooling technology.

Fast realization of high-strength, repeatable, damp-heat resistant bamboo-strip scarf bonding joints via hot-melt adhesives

Bamboo, which has excellent mechanical strength, is an ideal raw material for manufacturing high-performance bio-composites. However, due to a lack of fast, high-strength lengthening technology for bamboo units, the large-scale, mechanized, continuous production of bamboo woven materials has not been fully developed. In this work, bamboo strips (BS) with 0.5 mm thickness were used as a basic unit to prepare lengthened bamboo strips with the scarf jointing method. The effects of scarf jointed angles and hot-melt adhesive type on the scarf bonding performance were systematically investigated. The tensile strength of BS scarf joints appears to increase as the scarf joint angle decrease. Scarf joints prepared with low-cost thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film outperform those prepared with reactive polyurethane (PUR) or ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) hot-melt adhesives in terms of maximum tensile strength (197.9 MPa), secondary repeated bonding performance, and damp-heat aging resistance, where tensile strength of 136 MPa was retained after a 120 h cycle aging test. Specimens bonded with PUR adhesive are resistant to damp-heat aging, but show unsatisfactory secondary repeated bonding performance. The tensile strength and damp-heat aging resistance of EVA bonded specimens are unacceptable due to an unreliable bonding interface. We developed a facile solution for high-strength BS lengthening with repeated bonding and damp-heat resistant characteristics, which may provide technical support for the large-scale, mechanized manufacturing of bamboo-based composites.

Highly Sensitive and Color Adaptable Polyurethane‐Based Strain Sensors with Embedded Silver Nanowires

AbstractWearable strain sensors are expected to meet the requirements of high sensitivity, facile fabrication, and high aesthetics to realize practical applications. However, reported sensitive strain sensors fail to exhibit multicolor due to high light absorption. Herein, a flexible strain sensor with high sensitivity and color‐exhibition ability is fabricated by half‐embedding silver nanowires (AgNWs) into dyeable thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films through thermal annealing. A sheet resistance of 11.5 Ω sq−1 and a transmittance above 79.9% at 550 nm is obtained for intact AgNWs/TPU films. A gauge factor of 34 797 is achieved at a tensile strain of 9%, indicating the high sensitivity for monitoring tiny movement changes. Besides, the high transparency allows color exhibition after dying. The multicolor AgNWs/TPU films are further rolled into rod‐shaped yarns and weaved with commercial yarns to form wearable colorful electronics.

Fabrication of Silane-Grafted Cellulose Nanocrystals and Their Effects on the Structural, Thermal, Mechanical, and Hysteretic Behavior of Thermoplastic Polyurethane.

Reinforcement of polymer nanocomposites can be achieved by the selection of the appropriate fabrication method, surface modification, and orientation of the filler. Herein, we present a nonsolvent-induced phase separation method with ternary solvents to prepare thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composite films with excellent mechanical properties using 3-Glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane-modified cellulose nanocrystals (GLCNCs). ATR-IR and SEM analyses of the GLCNCs confirmed that GL was successfully coated on the surface of the nanocrystals. The incorporation of GLCNCs in TPU resulted in the enhancement of the tensile strain and toughness of pure TPU owing to the enhanced interfacial interactions between them. The GLCNC-TPU composite film had tensile strain and toughness values of 1740.42% and 90.01 MJ/m3, respectively. Additionally, GLCNC-TPU exhibited a good elastic recovery rate. CNCs were readily aligned along the fiber axis after the spinning and drawing of the composites into fibers, which further improved the mechanical properties of the composites. The stress, strain, and toughness of the GLCNC-TPU composite fiber increased by 72.60%, 10.25%, and 103.61%, respectively, compared to those of the pure TPU film. This study demonstrates a facile and effective strategy for fabricating mechanically enhanced TPU composites.
