Being places of population concentration and various types of activities - industry, construction, energy, automobile fleet, cities are sources of air, surface and underground water, and soil pollution. Nature in the city and in its immediate surroundings is subject to significant anthropogenic stress. Environmental problems of cities, mainly the largest of them, are associated with excessive concentration on relatively small territories of population, transport and industrial enterprises, with the formation of anthropogenic landscapes, the state of which is characterized by a violation of the ecological balance. 
 It is in the field of improvement that conditions are created for the population that ensure a high standard of living. Thus, conditions are created for a healthy, comfortable, convenient life both for an individual at the place of residence and for all residents of the city, district, quarter, and microdistrict.
 When performing a set of measures, they are able to significantly improve the ecological condition and appearance of cities and towns, create more comfortable microclimatic, sanitary, hygienic and aesthetic conditions on the streets, in residential apartments, public places (parks, boulevards, squares, squares, etc.). The need for a systematic solution to the problem of beautification and greening of cities and towns is ripe.
 The modern stage of the development of urban improvement and greening poses a number of new tasks that cannot be solved without extensive use of the achievements of scientific and technical progress, advanced practical experience.
 The purpose of this work is to generalize the theoretical foundations of the organization of the urban improvement and greening system. The work has a theoretical and methodological nature. Based on the study of literary sources, the essence of the formation and definition of the concept of urban improvement, improvement and greening of city territories, types of urban improvement are considered. The conclusion gives general conclusions that were made as a result of research and analysis of the problem of beautification and greening of the city territory.
 The methodological basis of the work is the concept of improvement of the city of L.A. Velikhova, the formula of improvement Z.Kh. Frenkel, the theory of V.I. Vernadsky, based on the principle of harmonious development of man and the biosphere, and the compositional theory of H. Hans, which examines human perception through the microcosm (microdistrict, street) and macrocosm (country, planet).
 The novelty of this work consists in identifying and formulating the main features and problems of the organization of the system of beautification and greening of the urban territory at the modern stage of the development of society.
 The work is based on a systemic approach, within which the following methods were used: historical, which examined the history of the centuries-old experience of green construction, systemic, comparative. The empirical basis of the research is a traditional analysis of literature and practical sources. The work has a theoretical and methodological nature. Based on the study of literary sources, the essence of the formation and definition of the concept of urban improvement, improvement and greening of city territories, types of improvement of residential areas are considered.
 In the opinion of the author, the results of the work: theoretical propositions and conclusions, definition of a number of relevant concepts and methodological recommendations may be useful for organizations engaged in greening and beautification of the urban territory. The results of the research can be used by students in the educational process of higher professional educational institutions regarding this topic.
