The effect of English learning media in improving student's writing skills through the mastery of different discourse markers

This research aims to determine the effect of learning media and mastery of discourse markers (DMs) on students' writing skills. Students in Indonesia experience many obstacles in their ability to write English. However, along with changes in students' needs in learning to write, digital-based learning media using Google Word Coach Game and Scrabble Word offers new ways to improve students' writing skills through teaching media Google Word Coach Game and Scrabble Word, learning media integrated with Mastering DMs can help improve students' writing skills. However, previous research still needs to incorporate mastery of DMs with the Google Word Coach Game and Scrabble Word learning media. Therefore, this research looks at how the Google Word Coach Game and Scrabble word learning media integrated with mastery of DMs can improve students' English writing skills. This research also examines how the interaction between the Google Word Coach Game and Scrabble word learning media is integrated with mastery of DMs. This research suggests a Google Word Coach Game and Scrabble Word learning media and provides suggestions about the importance of mastering DMs for students in high schools in Indonesia. It also outlines how to test these suggestions and suggests directions for future research.

Empowering Chemistry Education: Leveraging Technology to Elevate Academic Achievement at Kajaji Senior High School, Sene District, Bono East Region

This research work compares alternative methodologies; educational technology (projector media) and the traditional method of delivery, to improve upon students’ academic performance in chemistry among students of science students of Kajaji senior high school. Research questions and null hypotheses were formulated to serve as guide for this study. Form two science students were used for this study by convenience sampling and were placed into experimental and control groups. The study made use of standardized achievement test items from some selected topics in chemistry. Quasi-experimental non-randomised design involving pre-test and post-test was employed for the purpose of this study. The test scores obtained were analysed using t-test. The result obtained in this study showed that one of the null hypotheses formulated and tested at 95% level of significance was rejected. The findings revealed that the use of projector media in teaching was a more effective way of improving student’s performance in the teaching and learning of chemistry as compared to the conventional method.

THE MODEL OF ONLINE TEACHING AND LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT IN A NEW NORMAL OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN RAJAMANGALA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY PHRA NAKHON

This research focuses on studying the results of online teaching in the new normal to design online teaching media in the new normal and satisfaction of 3rd year students in the furniture design course for online. The method was researched by looking at each type of program information for online teaching, interviewing and analyzing it to determine the appropriateness for use as a teaching medium. The process of creating presentation media was selected from eight to one programs by interviewing Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and three teachers. Then, there was assessed online learning and teaching achievements using five level rating scale. The results showed that Google Classroom and Google Meet were the most suitable for online teaching and learning as they could create separated classroom clearly and conveniently. Google Classroom and Google Meet had the highest average (x̄ = 5.00, SD = 0.00). By comparing the pre-test scores with learning achievement scores of the sample group, it was found that the pre-test was at 15.29 (48.92%) and the post-test was at 24.82 (80.33%). The overall assessment of 62 students’ satisfaction was at a high level with an average of (x̄ = 4.08, SD = 0.50) The satisfaction with a high average was the use of online learning media, followed by online media and online lesson. The test scores had an average of (x̄ = 4.40, SD = 0.44) The satisfaction of Furniture Design subject had an average of (x̄ = 4.17, SD = 0.48), learning achievement of online lesson users with an average of (x̄ = 3.92, SD = 0.50) and the lesson content of online media with an average of (x̄ = 3.84, SD = 0.58) respectively.

Objective Comparison of the First-Person-View Live Streaming Method Versus Face-to-Face Teaching Method in Improving Wound Suturing Skills for Skin Closure in Surgical Clerkship Students: Randomized Controlled Trial.

The use of digital online teaching media in improving the surgical skills of medical students is indispensable, yet it is still not widely explored objectively. The first-person-view online teaching method may be more effective as it provides more realism to surgical clerkship students in achieving basic surgical skills. This study aims to objectively assess the effectiveness of the first-person-view live streaming (LS) method using a GoPro camera compared to the standard face-to-face (FTF) teaching method in improving simple wound suturing skills in surgical clerkship students. A prospective, parallel, nonblinded, single-center, randomized controlled trial was performed. Between January and April 2023, clerkship students of the Department of Surgery, Pelita Harapan University, were randomly selected and recruited into either the LS or FTF teaching method for simple interrupted suturing skills. All the participants were assessed objectively before and 1 week after training, using the direct observational procedural skills (DOPS) method. DOPS results and poststudy questionnaires were analyzed. A total of 74 students were included in this study, with 37 (50%) participants in each group. Paired analysis of each participant's pre-experiment and postexperiment DOPS scores revealed that the LS method's outcome is comparable to the FTF method's outcome (LS: mean 27.5, SD 20.6 vs FTF: mean 24.4, SD 16.7; P=.48) in improving the students' surgical skills. First-person-view LS training sessions could enhance students' ability to master simple procedural skills such as simple wound suturing and has comparable results to the current FTF teaching method. Teaching a practical skill using the LS method also gives more confidence for the participants to perform the procedure independently. Other advantages of the LS method, such as the ability to study from outside the sterile environment, are also promising. We recommend improvements in the audiovisual quality of the camera and a stable internet connection before performing the LS teaching method.

Implementation of Differentiation Learning In SMK Negeri 9 Padang

This research was motivated by the discovery of different learning styles and characteristics of students, which became a challenge for culinary teachers. This research aims to describe the process of implementing differentiated learning in the culinary skills program at SMK Negeri 9 Padang starting from the initial stages, implementation, to evaluation. This type of research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach using the case study method. The informants for this research were 5 culinary teachers at SMK Negeri 9 Padang. The technique for taking informants uses the Purposive Sampling technique. Data collection techniques are carried out by conducting interviews, observation and documentation. In order to increase the accuracy of the data, the author tested the validity of the data by means of data triangulation. Next, the data is analyzed by collecting the data obtained, reducing the data, presenting the data, and drawing conclusions. The research results show that the initial stage of differentiated learning is carried out by planning lessons, teachers also attend various training and seminars to increase their skills and knowledge in implementing differentiated learning. The implementation of differentiated learning is divided into several activities according to the teaching module design. These learning activities are differentiated based on three components, namely content differentiation in the form of involving students in group assignments; process differentiation in the form of the use of learning video teaching media, textbooks, oral explanations, as well as the formation of study groups, and product differentiation in the form of practice with groups with different products so that students can learn from other groups, presentations in front of the class, and individual assignments. Evaluation of differentiated learning is carried out by teachers with assessments which include assessments at the beginning of the learning process, assessments during the learning process, and assessments at the end of learning which are used to see students' abilities in understanding and remembering lesson material.

Pemanfaatan Card Game untuk Meningkatkan Minat Belajar Bahasa Inggris Siswa-Siswi Kelas 8 di SMP Negeri 2 Kaliwungu

Fulfilling the English learning needs of junior high school students by using qualified teaching aids is not easy for English teachers in rural Indonesia. To overcome this obstacle, SMP Negeri 2 Kaliwungu Boyolali collaborated with a team of four students and one lecturer of PBI UKSW in the program "Visual Learning Aids for English Teaching in SMP Negeri 2 Kaliwungu." This community service program aims to help English teachers of SMP Negeri 2 Kaliwungu create effective and fun English learning by providing card game learning aids based on the needs analysis of the English teachers and students, especially Grade 8. This community service program generally consisted of four steps: preparation, interviewing, making teaching media, and evaluation, which included presenting the teaching media to the school and a game simulation with some students. The program evaluation results showed that the students could understand the story by arranging the sentences on the card game correctly, and the teacher was also satisfied with the alternative learning media because the attractive visuals on the cards could motivate students.

Development of Musi Board Teaching Media on Math Arithmetic Operation for Grade II Elementary School Student

This research is based on the problems that exist in math subjects, especially in multiplication, adding, and subtracting. One of the fundamental problems experienced by students is a lack of understanding of basic concepts due to the lack of understanding of students reasoning and only paying attention to what is on the blackboard and the lack of learning media used during learning. In order for their understanding and numeracy skills to increase, learning resources for the Musi Board are needed. This study aims; (1) to test the feasibility of Musi Board Media on math arithmetic operations; (2) to see students response when learning using Musi Board Media on math arithmetic operations; (3) the effectiveness of Musi Board Media on math arithmetic operations. Using the ADDIE methodology (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation), this study used the Research and Development approach. The study involved 26 students from grade II of SDN dukuh 08. This media had shown the validity of the media and materials with 94% and 95%, respectively, with a very feasible category. Students’ responses also reached 96%, respectively, with a very interesting category. The results show that this Musi Board Media is feasible to use to help students learning. Therefore, the solution to overcome the problems of students to understand the basic concepts of mathematics in counting operations is to use the media during the lesson. With an N-gain value of 59.26%, the effectiveness of utilizing Musi Board medium for math arithmetic operations falls into the Moderately Effective group.

THE EFL STUDENTS' PERCEPTION OF USING WHATSAPP APP GROUP DURING THE PANDEMIC SITUATION

WhatsApp is a mobile phone application and web-based social network that integrates various features used to communicate with other users, including education, business, and entertainment. This study aimed to investigate EFL students' perspectives on WhatsApp as a medium for teaching and learning during the pandemic. The qualitative descriptive method was used in this study. A total of 30 students from the seventh grade in SMP 13 Jember were included in this study. The questionnaire was designed with both closed-ended and open-ended questions. The Guttman Scale is the format for a closed-ended questionnaire. The open-ended questions allowed participants to freely communicate and express their views and opinions, but there were no possibilities for using WhatsApp in English classrooms during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the COVID-19 epidemic, students' attitudes toward the WhatsApp application in English classes were tested using closed-ended and open-ended questionnaires. The information was gathered using a questionnaire and a phone interview. Following the completion of the research, we will learn how EFL students perceive WhatsApp as an online teaching-learning media during a pandemic. Furthermore, the results of this study that gauged participants' perception of the use of WhatsApp in learning vocabulary show that, generally, participants have positive attitudes towards learning new vocabulary items via WhatsApp. Implications for teaching and future research are discussed.

Pengembangan Media Pembelajaran Berbasis Augmented Reality pada Materi Bangun Ruang dengan Model Problem Based Learning (PBL) di Kelas IV Sekolah Dasar

The research is motivated by the fact that not all teachers use technology-based media in teaching and learning activities, especially in learning about building cube and block spaces. Teachers use more objects around students as media. This research aims to develop learning media based on augmented reality technology on classroom building materials in grade IV elementary school using a valid, practical and effective Problem Based Learning model. The type of research used in this study is development research using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate) model. The subjects of product trials and research data collection were grade IV students of SDN 08 Surau Gadang. The validation instrument used in this study is in the form of a validation sheet which aims to determine the validity or not of learning media based on Augmented Reality technology on space building materials. The analysis technique in this study uses the validity of learning media and the practicality of learning media. The results of the study show that the development of learning media based on augmented reality technology on building materials for cubes, blocks and prisms with the Problem Based Learning (PbL) model has been developed using the ADDIE development model and obtained an average result from three expert validators with a percentage of 81.33% which is included in the "Very Valid" category. The practicality of teachers' response to learning media based on Augmented Reality technology in building materials for cubes, blocks and triangular prisms in grade IV of elementary school obtained a percentage result of 90% with the very practical category at SDN 09 Surau Gadang and 96% with the very practical category at SDN 08 Surau Gadang. The results of the effectiveness test at the first meeting were obtained with a learning outcome percentage of 82.16%. Then at the second meeting, the percentage of learning outcomes increased by 88.16% at SDN 09 Surau Gadang. Then at SDN 08 Surau Gadang, the results of the effectiveness test at the first meeting were 87.19% and the results of the effectiveness test increased at the second meeting by 93%.

Heat E-Teaching Material Assisted by Augmented Reality and CTL Model to Promote Students' 4C Skills

The 21st century requires students to adapt and utilize the growing sophistication of technology. The expected 21st century learning is 4C skills to face global challenges. Students' critical thinking and creative thinking skills in physics learning are still low. The solution to the problem is that students need more interactive teaching media in order to increase interest in learning, digital teaching materials with Augmented Reality integrated CTL models are the solution to the problem. The purpose of this study was to determine the needs analysis, validity and practicality of using digital teaching materials with AR integrated with CTL models to improve students' critical and creative thinking skills. This type of research is Research and Development with the Hannafin and Peck development model. Data collection instruments include needs analysis instruments, validation questionnaire sheets and practicality questionnaire sheets. The data analysis techniques used are descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative statistics. Based on the data analyzed, there are three research results. First, the results of needs analysis research which stated that students' critical and creative thinking was still low. Second, the results of product validation with the valid category. Third, the results of product practicality with a very practical category. It is concluded that electronic teaching materials for heat assisted by Augmented Reality and CTL models can be used in learning. Research implications, with electronic teaching materials assisted by AR CTL model, teachers are expected to be able to motivate, guide and direct students in building 4C skills.

Enriching Students’ Vocabulary through Quizlet in Reading Class

This study explored teaching media “Quizlet” to enrich students’ vocabulary in reading class. This study aimed to analyze the students’ perceptions on the use of Quizlet as teaching media in reading class. This qualitative case study research was conducted in one of an Islamic Senior High School in Ciamis. This study involved a tenth- grade consisted of seventeen students which were chosen purposively as the sample of the study. The data were collected by using questionnaire. The results of this study indicate that students have positive perceptions about using Quizlet as a learning media to enrich their vocabulary. Students agreed that the Quizlet application motivated them to learn English vocabulary and improved their learning performance. It can be concluded that the Quizlet application is considered as a useful and fun learning media to enrich students' vocabulary. Furthermore, the researcher recommends that further researchers investigate the use of Quizlet at various levels of education to get more in- depth and specific results regarding the use of Quizlet media in learning vocabulary.

Applying the Means of Crossword Game to Increase Vocabulary Memorization in Teaching Arabic Language Among Middle School Students "Jannaturroichan " Peterongan Jombang

Arabic is a language that is difficult to learn because of the minimal methods teachers use when teaching, or the difficulty of students focusing when learning Arabic. For this reason, effective teaching media is needed in Arabic language lessons. This research aims to determine the application of crossword puzzle game media to improve vocabulary memorization in teaching Arabic to students at "Jannaturroichan" Middle School in Peterongan Jombang. Therefore, this research applies the crossword puzzle game media. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research with a case study approach. The qualitative approach focuses on the design, use, management, and evaluation stages, as well as data collection through interviews, observations, and documentation, research reveals that crossword puzzle media in Arabic language teaching has supporting and inhibiting factors. The supporting factors are the quality of teachers who are educative, innovative, and have teaching certificates. And the inhibiting factors are students who lack motivation so they are not enthusiastic about learning Arabic. This study also found that the media of crossword games in teaching Arabic can increase students' enthusiasm for learning because the learning process is exciting and not boring. In this study, the researcher wants to share experiences in the application of crossword game media in teaching Arabic to increase students' vocabulary.Keywords: Cross gaming, Descriptive qualitative, Improved Arabic language

Development of Learning Media Applications using a Smartphone

Background and objectives: Learning management that is consistent with learning in the 21st century requires designing teaching methods so that teachers, the teaching process, and the learning process are related. The use of smartphones is a teaching medium and packages of programs are packaged into smartphone applications. It is another method that is widely used today. The objectives of this research are: 1) to develop a learning media application Using a smartphone 2) to evaluate the quality of learning media applications using the developed smartphone 3) to assess user satisfaction with the learning media application Using the developed smartphone. Research methods: The tools used are 1) learning media applications. using a smartphone in this research, the researcher has a 5-step process which consists of the Analysis stage (Analysis), program design stage (Design), development stage (Development), experiment stage (Implementation), evaluation stage (Evaluation) 2) Quality assessment form for learning media applications on devices. Move The evaluation of the application was divided into 2 aspects: technical quality and content of the application by 3 experts and 3) a user satisfaction questionnaire of 60 people. The sample group was General science students Faculty of Education and Human Development Statistics used mean and standard deviation. Research results: The research results showed that 1) learning media applications were obtained. using a smartphone 2) learning media applications using a smartphone technical quality and content of the application Overall it is at a high level. And 3) users are satisfied with the learning media application. using a smartphone Overall it is at a high level. Conclusion: Development of learning media applications using a smartphone It is the development of teaching media in the form of a smartphone application. Having content to understand the work can help to have more skills in learning science. Application quality analysis results Evaluated by 3 experts it was found that the quality assessment results were at a high level. Results of satisfaction assessment of learning media applications using a smartphone Overall, it is at a high level.

The Use of Board Games for EFL Learning

Nowadays, digital-based media-integrated is needed in the learning context. This study aims to find out the teacher's perspective on the use of board games as a for EFL learning. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with an in-depth interview instrument. The participant was one English teacher in a private Junior High School in Malang Regency. The data was displayed descriptively. With the advent of digital technology, the result showed that board game still have various benefits. By using board games, teacher motivate students and make the learning process understandable. Board games are also an effective teaching media for improving motivation in learning English. Board games increase student participation, motivation, and enjoyment, making learning more efficient and fun. It is showed that board games improve students' scores in English class. The board game showed that students were more active during English learning. It is concluded that board games improve students' ability to learn English. Thus, it is recommended that board games be used as a learning media for EFL learning.

The Use of English Listening Lesson Library Online as Teaching Media by Vocational High School Teacher

This study delves into the features of ELLLLO ( English Listening Lesson Library) used by the vocational high school teacher, with a focus on exploring her attitudes toward it through Makhlouf & Bensafi (2021) theory. This qualitative case study utilized semi-structured interviews and observations, collecting data from a vocational high school teacher at SMKN 3 Tenggarong through purposeful sampling. There are The five features used by teacher with different method and purposes concluded from the Observations and Interview. Then, Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the data to find the teacher;’s attitude. Then, the vocational teacher’s attitude towards using ELLLO in teaching listening was both positive and negative. She could provide receptive and productive skills in one media and it was easier for her to prepare for the class. The teacher’s attitude was also supported by her students' reactions who were more motivated to learn English using ELLLO. In contrast, the teacher feels upset to the pronunciation menu which is not yet available on ELLLO. The study found that ELLLO is an application that not only provides audio recording but also a grammar spot menu and quiz inside it. It appears that it was good to bridge the students’ and teachers’ needs at SMKN 3 Tenggarong.

INNOVATIVE LEARNING MEDIA IN TEACHING 2D DRAWING MODIFICATION WITH CAD TECHNOLOGY

The lack of understanding of students on 2D drawing modification material using CAD is the background for this research. The purpose of this study is to produce products in the form of video tutorial learning media, knowing the feasibility of experts, knowing user responses, and knowing the improvement of learning outcomes after using media. This study used quantitative research methods with a pre-experimental research design with the type of one group pre-test post-test design. Purposive sampling was conducted to select 34 samples from TPM grade XI learners. This research produces video tutorial learning media. The results of the feasibility assessment conducted by show that the video tutorial learning media that has been made is declared "very feasible". The results of media user responses obtained the category "very good". Learning outcomes after using video tutorial learning media have increased, this is reflected in the increase in student learning outcomes measured through the use of n-gain with an average score of 0.38 in the "medium" category. Thus, it can be concluded that this video tutorial learning media is very feasible for use on manufacturing engineering drawing elements.

Social Media in Teaching English for EFL Students: A Review of Challenges and Suggestions

This research paper examines the use of social media in teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) to students. The study aims to identify the major social media platforms utilized for EFL teaching and learning, assess their effectiveness, determine the challenges faced by students and teachers, and pinpoint best practices for integrating social media into English language instruction. The paper provides a review of the literature on the role of social media in English language learning and teaching. It highlights how platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube can enhance various English language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The study also discusses the advantages of using social media for language learning, such as providing opportunities for authentic communication, facilitating collaborative learning, and increasing learner motivation and engagement. Furthermore, the research paper explores the challenges associated with integrating social media into EFL teaching, such as technical issues, pedagogical concerns, and student/teacher resistance. It then suggests best practices for effectively leveraging social media in the EFL classroom, including selecting appropriate platforms, designing engaging activities, and providing necessary training and support for both teachers and students. The findings of this study can offer valuable insights for EFL teachers and institutions on how to effectively incorporate social media into their English language teaching practices, ultimately enhancing the learning experience and outcomes for EFL students.

Bridging the Gap : Aligning Teachers’ Pedagogical Beliefs with Learners’ Preferences of English Language Learning in The Adaptive Learning Era

This study aims to investigate the differing viewpoints of teachers and students regarding classroom participation, material delivery, teaching media, and assessment methods in the adaptive learning era. The study employs quantitative method, which involves the systematic collection and analysis of numerical data through statistical techniques. This study includes 10 teachers and 50 EFL undergraduate students from two universities in Indonesia, using a Likert scale questionnaire to collect data on various aspects of English language learning. The data were analysed using a t-test to find the mean, standards deviation, and p value of the responses in order to ascertained significant differences between the teachers and the students. The results reveal significant disparities between teachers' and students' perceptions across different dimensions of learning. While teachers prioritize delivery strategies and assessment methods, students focus more on delivery modes and traditional assessment types. However, both groups acknowledge the importance of autonomous learning and the effectiveness of diverse teaching media in enhancing engagement and motivation. The findings underscore the need for a balanced approach to learning that integrates both teacher preferences and student needs. Ultimately, understanding and addressing these discrepancies is essential for promoting meaningful and inclusive educational experiences in the adaptive learning era.

Training on Digital Module Creation to Enhance Teacher Competency

Digitalization aims to make work easier and optimize time and resources as efficiently as possible. Teachers, like it or not, must face digitalization in this era of society 5.0. The benefits of digitizing education are that it makes teacher and student schedules more flexible, speeds up and simplifies the evaluation process, and creates a more personalized learning experience. The problem partners face is the lack of teachers' experience and knowledge in creating digital modules. Teachers are required to apply digitalization in learning based on the current implementation of the Independent Curriculum. Partner schools lack funds to support training activities to improve teacher competency. There are no instructors who are able to provide training in creating digital modules. The aim of this service activity is to provide education in the form of training and assistance in creating digital modules for MTsN Seuruway teachers, as an effort to increase competency. The method used is Participatory Action Research by involving all participants in training activities. All the teachers at the MTsN Seuruway school were involved in this activity. The results achieved after this activity were that the teachers could use the applications taught in the training. Teachers are able to create digital modules with the Canva program. Increased teacher understanding in updating the teaching modules given to students. The conclusion that can be drawn is that this training has provided additional knowledge and new skills so that teachers can create teaching media that are more interactive and interesting for teaching students.
