HUMAN INNER WORLD AS A MEANS OF SYMBOLIZATION IN THE FOLKLORE (based on the animal concept лиса (fox))

The article is devoted to the consideration of the animal concept of the fox in the minds of representatives of the Russian linguoculture. Of particular interest is the study of the concept in the folklore picture of the world. Using the example of Russian folk and Soviet fairy tales, the animal concept is analyzed and interpreted as a cultural and symbolic phenomenon functioning in the illustrative material in the form of a lexeme. The article is aimed at decoding the national and cultural conceptual image of the fox and at identifying the spectrum of ethno-cultural symbolic signs. Signs are objectified at the level of the compatibility of words and sentences. The analysis of folklore sources has shown that the symbolic component of the animalistic concept-image лиса (fox) is very extensive: cunning, slyness, treachery, deception, resourcefulness, sneakiness, dexterity, ingenuity, caution, patience, cheating, insight, hypocrisy, greed, prudence, flattery, commercialism, manipulation, inventiveness, attentiveness, intelligence, selfishness, pretense, theft, seduction, sense of smell, purposefulness. The revealed structural features reflect the inner world of a person, his/her moral and mental characteristics. It is important that symbolic signs attached to the image of лиса (fox) have not changed over time. The image of лиса (fox) in the Russian-speaking consciousness is steadfastly preserved as contemptuous, but at the same time instructive.

Idioms and Proverbs With a Plant Component in English Language and Culture

The article is aimed at analyzing the symbolic specificity of the Plant component, being a part of idioms and proverbs, formulating English language and culture ground.The research methodology is complex and is based two groups of methods, which are general scientific methods group, including analysis and synthesis, generalization, and special methods group, including the descriptive method, the method of component analysis, and the quantitative method.The research proves that the symbolic component, being the part of idioms or proverbs, make specific images in a person's mind causing special associations. The Plant component in idioms and proverbs especially in modern English culture is an integral part formulatung special part of lexis in English culture. The author identifies such subgroups of Plant components as part of idioms and proverbs as “tree components”, “tree names components”, “tree parts components”, “tree fruit components” and systematizes their properties from the standpoint of language and culture symbiosis understanding. The research asserts that the qualities typical for Plant components realization are associated with a person and various aspects of his activity.The research work results in two groups of idioms and proverbs with a Plant component classification types revealing main aspects of British culture by means of symbolic ideas: the group “man” describing peculiar features of man’s appearance, character, speech, mental abilities; and the group “specific features of human life”, being subdivided into subgroups “material life” and “immaterial life”, representing the features of tangible and intangible values of English language and culture.

Neurosymbolic artificial intelligence (NSAI) based algorithm for predicting the impact strength of additive manufactured polylactic acid (PLA) specimens

In this study, we introduce application of Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence (NSAI) for predicting the impact strength of additive manufactured polylactic acid (PLA) components, representing the first-ever use of NSAI in the domain of additive manufacturing. The NSAI model amalgamates the advantages of neural networks and symbolic AI, offering a more robust and accurate prediction than traditional machine learning techniques. Experimental data was collected and synthetically augmented to 1000 data points, enhancing the model’s precision. The Neurosymbolic model was developed using a neural network architecture comprising input, two hidden layers, and an output layer, followed by a decision tree regressor representing the symbolic component. The model’s performance was benchmarked against a Simple Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model by assessing mean squared error (MSE) and R-squared (R2) values for both training and validation datasets. The results reveal that the Neurosymbolic model surpasses the Simple ANN model, attaining lower MSE and higher R2 values for both training and validation sets. This innovative application of the Neurosymbolic approach in estimating the impact strength of additive manufactured PLA components underscores its potential for optimizing the additive manufacturing process. Future research could investigate further refinements to the Neurosymbolic model, extend its application to other materials and additive manufacturing processes, and incorporate real-time monitoring and control for enhanced process optimization.

У ПОШУКАХ ПІДСТАВ СОЦІАЛЬНОГО В ЕПОХУ ПІЗНЬОГО МОДЕРНУ ТА ПОСТМОДЕРНУ: РАДИКАЛІЗАЦІЯ РЕФЛЕКСИВНОСТІ Е. ГІДЕНСОМ ТА АБСОЛЮТИЗАЦІЯ УЯВНОГО К. КАСТОРІАДІСОМ

Completion of modern generates a question, that, actually, is reality and whether it is possible in general according to her theoretical description. In a background it there is various postmodern reinterpretations of social – from a statement about disappearance of social to his rescue through radical rethinking. Anthony Giddens belongs to the philosophers that try to "prolong" the lives of modern through his radical rethinking in the epoch of globalization. And a philosopher does it through the radicalization of one of the basic foundations of modernity – through radicalization of reflection, that is investigated in the article. The dynamism of social life destabilizes an everyday life that already is not provided in a complete measure by the mechanisms of tradition but needs, in the opinion of philosophers, an all greater reflection. Giddens's postmodernism is the globalists of risks, uncertainty, the end of the direct power of traditions, and radical reflection that outpoured into the reflexive proactivity of the self and needs an articulated and conceptually defined imagined in Castoriadis. Cornelius Castoriadis reacts somewhat differently to the realities of a rapidly changing world. Dissociating himself from the functionalist mainstream of social theory, from the tradition of "interpretive sociology", trying to conceptualize the dynamic environment as it is, which constantly generates various forms of social life, the philosopher problematizes and absolutizes the concept of the imaginary, which keeps the rational in itself in a primordial and infinite indistinctness. The social concept of Cornelius Castoriadis involves the criticism of "naive realism" in the perception of social life, the separation from the "functional-economic" view as an exemplary embodiment of "real-rational" thinking and the identification of the symbolic component of social "things" and the understanding of institutions as functional and symbolic networks. So, if the dynamism of postmodern social life prompts Giddens to radicalize reflection, then the loss of stability and intelligibility leads Castoriadis to thematize the imaginary, virtual dimension of social life, to develop a metaphorical ontology of the "magma" of social imaginary meanings.

Extension of constraint-procedural logic-generated environments for deep Q-learning agent training and benchmarking

Abstract Autonomous robots can be employed in exploring unknown environments and performing many tasks, such as, e.g. detecting areas of interest, collecting target objects, etc. Deep reinforcement learning (RL) is often used to train this kind of robot. However, concerning the artificial environments aimed at testing the robot, there is a lack of available data sets and a long time is needed to create them from scratch. A good data set is in fact usually produced with high effort in terms of cost and human work to satisfy the constraints imposed by the expected results. In the first part of this paper, we focus on the specification of the properties of the solutions needed to build a data set, making the case of environment exploration. In the proposed approach, rather than using imperative programming, we explore the possibility of generating data sets using constraint programming in Prolog. In this phase, geometric predicates describe a virtual environment according to inter-space requirements. The second part of the paper is focused on testing the generated data set in an AI gym via space search techniques. We developed a Neuro-Symbolic agent built from the following: (i) A deep Q-learning component implemented in Python, able to address via RL a search problem in the virtual space; the agent has the goal to explore a generated virtual environment to seek for a target, improving its performance through a RL process. (ii) A symbolic component able to re-address the search when the Q-learning component gets stuck in a part of the virtual environment; these components stimulate the agent to move to and explore other parts of the environment. Wide experimentation has been performed, with promising results, and is reported, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

СОЦИОКУЛЬТУРНЫЙ ФАКТОР В ПОЛИТИКЕ: СИМВОЛИЧЕСКИЕ КОНСТРУКТЫ

Politics as a sphere of public life is a border area for all other spheres, while it acquires a special dependence on the characteristics of behavior, which is significantly influenced by the cultural aspect. That is why the process of studying and analyzing the political sphere of the life of society involves the study, first of all, of the sociocultural factor. In this paper, the authors propose to consider it through three components: the positioning of a person as the main subject of politics, the features of mutual influence on political behavior of morality, morality, humanism, axeology and ethics, and the statement of this mutual influence through a formally legal element. The first component is largely associated with symbolic constructs, since the role of a person as a subject or object of politics directly depends on the political picture of the world that he has. The more political experience a person has, the more realistic this picture is and, as a result, the more active the subject is in politics. The second component in itself is a symbolic construct, since outside of symbolism there is no culture and its constituent elements. Accordingly, influencing the political behavior of the individual, morality, morality, axeology, ethics, and especially humanism, permeate it with a symbolic component. Formally, the legal element fully embodies the features of the political conditions in which society and the state exist, and from this point of view it acts as a symbol of the era in which it is formed. Taking into account the above interpretations, the authors conclude that outside the symbolic component it is impossible to comprehend the existing political problems and find ways to solve them.

Provincial Cities’ Anniversaries and the Formation of Soviet “Peripheral Capitals”

This article analyses some aspects of the socioeconomic and political uses of anniversaries in the Soviet and contemporary Russian history to boost the development of the territory. Initially, the desire of the young Soviet state to sever all ties with the past made the “anniversary question” almost absurd. Soviet anniversary traditions formed in the late 1920s–1930s when the 3rd, 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th anniversaries of organisations and enterprises were celebrated everywhere. The article also mentions personal anniversaries, which celebrated the time of work in a particular institution, or in a particular specialty and other reasons. Additionally, the author considers the political decisions of the Soviet / Russian authorities on the regulation of the “anniversary question”. Starting with the late 1940s, the anniversary of a city could be a political campaign, a way of symbolic mobilisation and accumulation of resources. On the other hand, cities’ anniversaries caused a surge in local historical and cultural activism, contributed to the formation of local lore communities, and stimulated the formation of local identity. Particular attention is paid to the resonant “dispute of historians” considering the date of foundation of the city of Perm at the turn of the 1970s, which is personified in the controversy between F. S. Gorovoy and B. N. Nazarovsky becoming a model for the establishment of anniversaries of local centres. A new interpretation of the above polemic is proposed in the context of the Soviet public history formation. The first full-scale anniversary of Perm (as well as a few other Soviet cities) demonstrated its potential as a socioeconomic technology and stimulated urban development and accumulation of the provincial / regional capital. The celebration of anniversaries forms a specific temporality of key dates and gives an impetus to the development of the symbolic component of metropolitan identity.

Репрезентация концепта «труд» в русской языковой картине мира на материале социальных сетей периода пандемии СОVID-19

The article presents an approach to studying the concept of “Labor” in social networks during the COVID-19 pandemic using the example of the Russian social network “VKontakte” involving elements of background comparison with the Chinese social network “Sina Weibo”. The purpose of the study is to determine the cognitive characteristics of the concept of “Labor” during the COVID-19 pandemic against the background of the Chinese concept 劳动. The research is aimed at studying changes in the symbolic component of the content of the “Labor” concept during the pandemic. The scientific novelty lies in conducting a multidimensional analysis of the components of this concept when representing it in contexts from social networks and in describing its modern relevant features.

Preserving the Memory of Work and Associated Techniques Through Industrial Heritage in Spain

Technological and cultural advances have meant that many once commonplace modes of production and trades have lost their usefulness and raison d’être, giving way to new, more efficiency and productivity. In numerous cases, these trades and their associated knowledge, techniques and ways of life possess high intangible ethnographic values. The aim of this study was to determine and analyze some of the key strategies for keeping these techniques alive so that they do not fall into oblivion and to transmit knowledge of them to future generations. The study method was based on dialogical fieldwork conducted with the aim of learning about the human experience of protagonists in various industrial activities. Our results show that it is vital to maintain industrial heritage as a witness to these forms of production and to disseminate knowledge of different work cultures through the voices of their protagonists. This can be achieved by recording former workers’ narratives, which may provide valuable information concerning these individuals’ work identities. The results also suggest the route to industrial heritage conservation often involves the museumization of these spaces or their conversion into cultural centers. As part of this process, it is essential to give a voice to the protagonists and ensure the participation of former, mostly retired workers in any associated heritage dissemination activities. We conclude that contextualizing industrial heritage is an important means to comprehend and appreciate its symbolic component and to understand the underlying technological, social, and cultural changes.

Конструирование мифологемы Русского Севера в рамках национальной специфики Коми народа через призму мифов и легенд

The purpose of the study is to propose an approach to the definition or construction of the mythology of the Russian North, considering the concept not as a single model in conjunction with its symbolic component, but to refer to the Russian North as a multi-component concept, and trace the construction on the example of one of the regions - the Komi Republic. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that we trace the construction of the mythologeme of the Russian North as a result of the development of Komi mythology with its quasi-shamanistic and quasi-Christian performance. As a result, it was revealed that the mythologeme of the Russian North in the national specifics of the Komi people is revealed through the inability of a person to comprehend all the secrets of the forest, but gives him spiritual depth. His desire to find answers to questions is reflected in the image of the river, which directs a person to the right path. The river brings order and certainty into his life and into the mythology of the Russian North, complementing it, making the incomprehensible and enchanted image more sedate and in motion. The Russian North is a place to overcome oneself and one's fears. Harsh natural conditions and the acceptance of the impossibility of comprehending it cultivate a spiritual core or inner strength in a person.

Reflections on the integration of poetry therapy and psychodynamic practice based on an analysis of the book Tribute to Freud by the poet H.D.

ABSTRACT This paper concerns the book Tribute to Freud, by Hilda Doolittle (H.D.) (1886–1961). In the book, H.D. – an important person in the modernist poetry scene – presents her psychoanalysis with Sigmund Freud (1856–1939). She describes how literature, sculptures, mythology, and symbols were central to their dialogues. I have analysed these dialogues with respect to the three components of poetry therapy, the receptive, the expressive, and the symbolic. Based on the analysis, I discuss how poetry therapy and psychodynamic practice can be integrated and how practitioners from the two orientations can learn from and inspire each other. I reflect on the presence of symbols and mythology in the book and suggest that the symbolic component, which has received the least attention, could be strengthened by the psychodynamic tradition’s acknowledgement of symbols and mythology. I also discuss how poetry therapy could inspire psychodynamic practitioners to acknowledge the expressive component.

초등학교 교육용 한자의 構形體系에 관한 연구

This paper analyzed 675 Chinese characters for elementary school education by Kim Sung-joong (2016), who was selected by a relatively scientific method, based on the theory of Chinese character configurational. As a result, it was possible to derive the configuration model, The number of combinations, the status of holding combination intention, the distribution of functions of direct component and basic component, and variations of direct component and basic component. Based on this, it was determined whether 675 characters were suitable for elementary education. A total of 675 direct components are 457, with more than 50% participating in the configuration as a ideographic component. This shows that 675 characters were selected based on meaning and that they were selected in consideration of elementary school students. However, 335 characters, the basic components of 675 characters, is quite a large number. The basic components has 103 variant component and 60 symbolic component. Also, 129 out of 675 characters are symbolic letters. Through the above analysis, it can be seen that some letters of 675 characters were not selected according to detailed criteria based on the character shape. In order to change 675 characters to Chinese characters suitable for elementary school students, Chinese characters containing symbolic component can be excluded from Chinese characters with two or more stories.

Metaphorical Folk Names of English and Ukrainian Homeopathic Plants: Comparative Analysis in Cognitive and Linguocultural Framework

This research focuses on the comparative analysis of metaphorical folk names of English and Ukrainian homeopathic plants. The paper identified and interpreted the cognitive and linguocultural underpinning of the metaphors with an emphasis on the isomorphic and allomorphic features of their motivational structures in the compared languages. The study reached four major findings. Isomorphic for the metaphorization processes are input source spaces of "plant distribution area"; "mythical person or creature"; "a diseased organ or symptom"; "behaviour"; "another plant"; "body parts of the animal, bird or human", associated with the plant as a target space in shape, general appearance, location, healing properties, time of existence and way of life. Isomorphic for English and Ukrainian folk names of homeopathic plants are the compound blending models involving more than two input spaces and few blending spaces, as well as the presence in their motivational structure of a symbolic component associated with nationally specific and universal archetypal symbols. Isomorphic for metaphoric plant names is metonymic compression in blending spaces, based on holonym-partonym substitution, and involvement in the blending the possessive and comparative schemas. Allomorphic input sources of English metaphors involve the spheres of "artifact", "body fluids", "mythological characters", "fantastic creature", "particular patterns of behavior"– in contrast to the Ukrainian intercultural synonyms where such conceptual input spaces have not been identified.

Neurules and connectionist expert systems: Unexplored neuro-symbolic reasoning aspects

Neuro-symbolic approaches combine neural and symbolic methods. This paper explores aspects regarding the reasoning mechanisms of two neuro-symbolic approaches, that is, neurules and connectionist expert systems. Both provide reasoning and explanation facilities. Neurules are a type of neuro-symbolic rules tightly integrating the neural and symbolic components, giving pre-eminence to the symbolic component. Connectionist expert systems give pre-eminence to the connectionist component. This paper explores reasoning aspects about neurules and connectionist expert systems that have not been previously addressed. As far as neurules are concerned, an aspect playing a role in conflict resolution (i.e., order of neurules) is explored. Experimental results show an improvement in reasoning efficiency. As far as connectionist expert systems are concerned, variations of the reasoning mechanism are explored. Experimental results are presented for them as well showing that one of the variations generally performs better than the others.

ОБЩЕРОССИЙСКАЯ ИДЕНТИЧНОСТЬ НА СЕВЕРНОМ КАВКАЗЕ: ОПЫТ ЭКСПЕРТНОЙ ОЦЕНКИ

The article presents the results of expert assessment of the state, risks and resources of strengthening the all-Russian identity in federal subjects of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasian Federal District. An in-depth analysis of the “identity portfolio” of the North Caucasian residents reveals the insignificant predominance of the all-Russian identity in the structure of the “identity portfolio”. The authors conclude that, though the existing hierarchy of identities of the North Caucasian population is optimal for a polyethnic region, in modern conditions it is necessary to increase the role of the all-Russian identity as an integrating component. The multi-vector nature of the formation and strengthening of the all-Russian identity in the North Caucasian republics and Stavropol Krai at the level of the federal subjects are shown, and this requires a correction of the regional identity policy. It is concluded that the main subject of the formation of the all-Russian identity is state institutions. To increase the effectiveness of identity policy in the region the symbolic component of identity policy should be intensified, civil society should be involved in this work at a much larger scale and the resources of cultural and educational institutions should be used more actively.

Символический макроконцепт СИЛА в аспекте первопризнаков

The purpose of this article was to describe the symbolic component among the primary (motivating) signs of the STRENGTH/POWER macroconcept. Objectives of the article: 1) to identify a complete list of motivating signs of the STRENGTH/POWER macroconcept; 2) to single out symbolic signs among them; 3) to describe the ways of objectification of symbolic primary signs and provide examples from the Russian language. This research is relevant due to the importance of describing the special class of symbolic macroconcepts. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in the fact that for the first time the STRENGTH/POWER macroconcept is presented in the aspect of its primary signs. The key research methods used here are descriptive, interpretive, and conceptual, as well as component analysis of dictionary definitions. The author revealed 59 motivating signs of the STRENGTH/POWER macroconcept on the basis of 10 etymological and historical-etymological dictionaries. None of the dictionaries used contain a complete set of primary signs of this macroconcept. The large number of motivating signs indicates that STRENGTH/POWER is an important macroconcept, whose primary signs have syncretic nature. Eight out of 59 motivating signs are symbolic, which is 1/7 of the total number. This ratio is a sufficient basis for classifying the STRENGTH/POWER macroconcept as symbolic. The language material from the National Corpus of the Russian Language shows the relevance of all the identified symbolic signs. Symbolic primary signs of the STRENGTH/POWER macroconcept in Russian linguoculture can be presented in the form of three blocks: 1) the transcendental (‘god’, ‘general name of the second angelic rank’, ‘miracles’); 2) the vital component of a person (‘spirit’, ‘soul’, ‘life’); 3) unusual human abilities (‘divine gift of producing miracles’, ‘ability to make changes in other things’).

The article features the architectural solution and purpose of the Nizhegorodskaya transport and interchange hub, as well as the importance of interaction between the leading design teams of different profiles. It describes the symbolic and artistic component of the project and its implementation.

Стратегии адаптации китайских имен литературных перcонажей в русском переводе

The article analyzes the features of the translation into Russian of Chinese names containing a metaphorical or symbolic component. It argues the necessity of using, in addition to transcription and transliteration, contextual strategies of domestication and foreignization in order to adapt fragments of text containing names to the linguocultural mentality of Russian speakers, while preserving the cultural flavor and connotations of the original text. Such tactics of strategies of domestication and foreignization as structuralsemantic and lexical-semantic adaptation with the techniques of generalization and modulation are identified.

The role of Symbolism in Modern Political Processes of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Abstract. Political symbolism is a complex structural formation consisting of various sign systems involved in the political process. Symbols play a significant role in the political life of society, performing a number of socially significant functions. This article defines the symbolic component of the political process of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as an integral part of which the symbols of political parties and emblems of regions and cities of republican significance of Kazakhstan are considered. In addition, the analysis of several cases related to the use of political symbols in influencing the consciousness of society is carried out, and the results of the study are reflected in the conclusion.

An Analysis of the Communication of Provincial Identities in Mascots to Promote Tourism in Thailand

This research analyzed the communication of provincial identities in mascots to promote tourism in Thailand through the conceptual frameworks of semiotic theory and identity concept. It is a qualitative research using an analysis of mascot components, an analysis of provincial identities that appear in the mascots, and in-depth interviews. The tools used consisted of a symbolic component analysis table with provincial identities and in-depth interviews.The sample group consisted of 23 mascots and 5 policymakers and mascot designers.Results of the study revealed that senders use mascots that are cute, friendly, and straightforward. Most of the senders use the encoding of sign in the icon level that looks like or resembles real objects to make them interesting and easy to understand. In addition, there is the encoding of sign in the index level that is reduced from real objects into patterns of costumes and accessories that make the mascots stand out. In terms of provincial identities, it was found that the meanings of the various symbols are transmitted in the dimensions of bringing up the distinctive identities of the province in seven aspects: 1) traditions and beliefs, 2) archaeological sites and antiques, 3) food and products, 4) famous tourist attractions, 5) costumes, 6) art and culture, and 7) other identities.
