Digital capabilities of health workers to use electronic medical records: Digital maturity self-assessment in Indonesian hospitals

Digital skills influence the successful implementation of information systems and electronic medical records (EMR) in health care facilities. The Ministry of Health measures digital maturity levels to identify gaps in improving digital transformation, including the digital skill of health workers in hospitals in 2022. The digital maturity in all hospitals in Indonesia was measured quantitatively based on the 7 components of Hospital Information Systems Maturity Model (HISMM). The low response rate was anticipated with a number of efforts such as outreach, capacity building and a circular letter from the Ministry of Health. Internal and external consistency was conducted to ensure the quality of the self-assessment. Specifically, the level of digital skills was analysed by calculating the average score of one components of digital maturity, namely Human Resources, Skills and Use of Hospital Information Systems. There are 11 parameters for assessing the level of digital literacy, perceived usefulness and encouragement to use RME in hospitals. All parameters were assessed using a 5-point scale and were analysed quantitatively. The response rate was 31.9% (973 out of 3,052 hospitals) where overall average of digital maturity level was 2.6. Hospital type A, higher accreditation status and located in Jawa-Bali has relatively high maturity level compare to others. The digital skills of health workers in hospitals are relatively high, with the majority already using the hospital information system. This was align with the perception of the ease of use and usefulness of using a hospital information system. Even though there have been several digital health champions in the hospital, health workers have not been fully involved in the process of developing information systems in hospitals and not many hospitals have utilized HIS to assess the performance of health workers. It is clearly that health workers in hospitals are capable and quite aware of the use of digital technology. However, their role needs to be increased to support the development of appropriate digital technology.

Role of Transformational Leadership in the Successful Implementation of Information Systems in the Government Sector

This study examines the mediating role of transformational leadership in the successful implementation of information systems in government. Unlike previous research conducted in the commercial sector, the implementation of information systems in the government sector is mandatory so operational variables need to be modified. The data used are primary data collected from 86 respondents who are information system operators. Analysis was performed using Partial Least Square (PLS) SEM. The results of the study show that system quality, information quality, and service quality have a positive effect on the successful implementation of information systems in government. These results also prove that transformational leadership mediates the relationship between overall quality and information system usage. This supports the hypothesis regarding the importance of transformational leadership in the successful implementation of information systems.

Implementasi of technology acceptance model (TAM) in electronic documentation of nursing care: phenomenology explorative

Incomplete medical record documentation affects the quality of service in hospitals. The migration of SIMRS is intended to allow hospital services to be integrated. The use of electronic medical records as a nursing care documentation tool needs to be evaluated in terms of the acceptance of technology through three constructs: the effect of benefits, the effect of ease of use of the system, and self-confidence in computing ability. The study aims to explore the nurses’ experiences of the influence of the benefits of using technology, the ease of use of technology, and nurses' self-confidence when using technology. This study used qualitative methodology with an exploratory phenomenological approach. Data were collected through FGDs with 12 participants selected by purposive sampling technique and consultation with information technology and nursing management experts. Data analysis used the Collaizi Model. The results obtained from this study indicate that the electronic care documentation system must consider the security system of the medical record and that obstacles to operating the system must be anticipated. Guidelines should be made for the application of 3S nursing care in EMR. Adapting to technology influences self-confidence in computing ability, the belief that technology can complete tasks, the usefulness of technology, and the ease of use of electronic documentation technology. It can be concluded that the evaluation of technology acceptance as early as possible is very important to support the successful use of information systems and provide input for management and policymakers in understanding the process of adaptation to new technologies and the creation of practical guidelines for the successful implementation of information systems.

Evaluation of Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS): Radiologists’ perspective

BackgroundEvaluating Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) from the perspective of radiologists can provide valuable insights into the system's strengths and weaknesses, enabling designers to receive feedback and make improvements accordingly. As user acceptance is critical for the successful implementation of information systems, it is important to identify the views of radiologists on PACS. Discovering the users' perspectives can help identify possible system weaknesses and provide feedback to designers. MethodsThis cross-sectional survey study involved radiologists and radiology residents working in two teaching hospitals that used different PACS. A total of 138 participants were included in the study using a census method. A standard questionnaire comprising 40 items based on a three-option Likert scale (disagree, no idea, and agree) was used to collect data, which was divided into four sections. After translation, the content validity of the questionnaire was confirmed (CVI>0.9), and its reliability was confirmed by a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.71. The data were analyzed using SPSS software, and the mean score for each item was calculated. The independent sample t-test was used to compare the mean scores of each section between the two PACS. ResultsRadiologists identified better education for medical students as the most significant advantage of PACS. Almost 90% of radiologists believed that PACS met their expectations for patient care and improved care delivery. The biggest challenge of PACS was the continued dependence on paper after implementation, rather than being entirely paperless. According to radiologists, PACS B had a more significant impact on patient care and posed fewer challenges than PACS A (P value < 0.01). ConclusionsBased on radiologists' perspectives, PACS improves care delivery and patients' satisfaction compared to traditional film-based systems, while also reducing patient care costs by eliminating the need for film and paper. However, the system faces several challenges, such as poor image quality and slow processing speeds. The use of appropriate infrastructure to implement the system could be one solution to these challenges.

Strategy of introduction of information system in trade and logistics company

In the modern world, technologies and market requirements are constantly changing, and the introduction of modern information systems is necessary for the successful functioning of companies in the field of trade and logistics. These systems automate processes, simplify management and increase efficiency. The advantages of implementing information systems are discussed in this article, as well as the problems that companies may face in this process. The inconsistency of the company’s hardware architecture and network with the requirements, as well as the lack of resources, including qualified personnel and finances, are the main problems. Incorrect choice of information system or resistance from employees can also cause problems. Taking into account all these factors and overcoming them is important for the successful implementation of information systems in the field of trade and logistics in order to get all the benefits from the new system.

The role of facilitating condition in enhancing user’s continuance intention

Many organizations are moving toward utilizing information system to enhance eficiency in everyday task. Although the influence of facilitating condition are important to the success of information system implementation, the literature lacks empirical research on tthe relationship between facilitating condition and continuance intention in private higher leaning institution. In this article, the researchers introduce a simple model based on information systems (IS) and user behavior literature to examine the effect of facilitating condition on the intention to continue using e-campus. A paper-and-pencil self-administered questionnaire survey with 500 users of Malaysian private higher learning institution is carried out to evaluate the proposed model. The result proves that facilitating condition have a significant effect on e-campus continuance intention. Important practical contributions are further discussed in the paper.

Mini-Review: The Influence of User Behavior on the Success of Information System Implementation: Towards the Development of Behavior-Based Information System Requirements

The characteristics and behaviour of information system users have a big influence on the successful implementation of information systems. There have been many studies that reveal the effects of user behaviour related to technology and information systems. The majority of research conducted deals with the impact of culture on user behaviour after the implementation of information systems. Very few journals discuss how the characteristics and factors of user behaviour are used as inputs that affect the information system development process. This research was conducted to conduct a literature review regarding the dominant factors in user behaviour and to see their impact on the development of information systems. The results of the study are in the form of synthesis to see the opportunity to include these user behaviour factors into components of the information system requirements.

The article discusses methodologies that allow to describe and visualize various business processes, their study and obtaining answers to questions of interest. This is necessary for a visual representation of technological processes and the search for ways to increase their efficiency. For the successful implementation of information systems, the design model must be carefully described; information models of information systems must be built. Without the use of any information technology, the design of objects is carried out on an intuitive level, using practical design skills. Using the methods of visual presentation of information, give a visual representation of the information modeling of the workstation of a sawmill technologist. This involves the construction of structural diagrams, the ability to build diagrams using color schemes, diagrams allow you to test at different levels and determine cyclic elements. CASE-technologies allow you to quickly and clearly develop an information model of any complexity and any depth of detail of the project. CASE tools for developing an information model apply diagrams at various levels. Information modeling of the automated workplace of a sawmill technologist is intended to carry out a set of measures aimed at organizing the technological process of a sawmill for the production of edged and unedged sawn timber.

Successful Implementation of Information Systems in Public Sector Organizations

This study aims to determine the success of the implementation of the Regional Financial Management Information System (SIPKD) in the Regional Work Unit (SIPKD) in the Sumedang District Government, by examining the effect of system quality, information quality and service quality on user satisfaction and its implications for net benefits. This study uses primary data from questionnaires given to leaders of agencies, operators, and administrators of SIPKD. The data analysis method used is path analysis. The results of this study indicate that the quality of the system, the quality of information, and the quality of service affect user satisfaction and impact on net benefits both partially and simultaneously. The results of this study contribute to adding literature on the implementation of information systems in public sector organizations, and influencing factors can be used as a reference for public sector organizations in assessing the application of information systems.

Exploring university perceptions of IS implementation and attributes of success: a case study of public universities in Thailand

ABSTRACT This study aims to gain a better understanding of public university implementation of organizational information systems (IS). Mixed methods research was used, including initial exploration, telephone interviews, and a self-administered mail survey. The data were gathered from university personnel at 40 public universities in Thailand, and the research focused on the university student-registration systems (S-R). The study results highlight the different perceptions between two response groups: administrators and system users. The results show different perceptions of IS implementation and attributes that define IS implementation success. The results also serve as important suggestions that need to be recognized by administrators and practitioners for effectively planning the implementation of organizational IS in public universities.

Interpretative Structural Modelling for Determining Dominant Success Criteria of Information System (IS) Success at Handycraft SMEs in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

The purpose of this research paper is to determine the dominant criteria of Information System (IS) success specific to handcraft SMEs in Yogyakarta and to establish relationship among those criteria using interpretive structural modeling (ISM). A small portion of those SMEs have started using information system. However, they face several barriers to successfully implement the information system. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the success of information system implementation. But, no study has been done regarding the measurement IS success specific to handcraft SMEs in Yogyakarta. This research involved interview-based surveys and ISM approach to determine the dominant criteria of IS success of SMEs in Yogyakarta context. In total, 16 SMEs were involved as research objects in this research. In this research, four cluster of SME have been identified and the modified IS Success model for each cluster was developed accordingly. The modified model for each cluster has 14, 20, 16 and 30 criteria respectively. Through ISM, a relationship model among the criteria for each model was also obtained. It was concluded that “ease of use”, “ease of learning”, and “data accuracy” are significant criteria of IS Success model in SMEs in Yogyakarta. These criteria are considered as the dominant criteria to implement information system successfully. In addition, the desired results of successful implementation is represented by “improved outcomes”.

Factors that contribute to the success or failure of information systems implementation have received extensive attention in the literature. Top management support is considered one of the most, if not the most, critical factors for implementation success. However, the positive effect of top management support is not always borne out in empirical data, prompting a quest for moderator variables. A classic meta-analysis shows that the effect of top management support on implementation success is moderated by task interdependence, a claim refuted in several more recent meta-analyses. Drawing from the lessons learned from these meta-analyses, the current research reanalysed the top management support literature with a larger sample while controlling for the effect of common method variance and systems success measurement issues. The results reaffirm the significant and substantial effect of top management support on systems success. At the same time, evidence also supports the moderating role of task interdependence, common method variance, and how systems success is measured. Implications for systems implementation are discussed.

How Organizational Culture Affects Information System Success: The Case of an Indonesia IT-Based Company

This research aims at exploring the effect of organizational culture, especially clan culture, toward the success of information system implementation. A conceptual model of information system success had been developed by integrating DeLone-McLean model, technology acceptance model (TAM), unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). Competing values model (CVM) is being used for organizational model, as such the assessment for organizational culture is using organizational culture assessment instrument (OCAI). To test the proposed conceptual model, empirical study was conducted at a IT-based company using questionnaire and gave the total of 319 usable data samples. The data analysis is using SmartPLS3 due to the abnormality of data distribution. The OCAI assessment shows that the company has a tendency toward clan culture which is quite unexpected for an IT-based company. However, further analysis shows that the company has successfully mixed clan culture with the less-dominant types of culture to create a conducive culture for the success of information system implementation. This study sheds light on IT implementation for business organizations especially the ones which have clan culture as a dominant culture embedded in their organizations.

Success of IoT in Smart Cities of India: An empirical analysis

With Rapid progress of wireless technology, the daily life of the citizens has undergone drastic change. They are using sophisticated devices based on latest technology for their daily usage at homes. This lucrative facility is available especially to the citizens of modern cities of the world. India is also not lagging. Government of India has announced for creation of 100 Smart Cities where the citizens are expected to use Information and Communication Technology with the help of internet. More use of internet by the citizens would enhance more internet penetration and here Internet of Things (IoT) plays a crucial role. However, tapping into the IoT is mere a part of the story. It is necessary to combine IoT with Artificial Intelligence (AI) in ‘Smart Machines’ to simulate intelligent behavior to arrive at an accurate and reliable decision without human intervention. Now combining AI and IoT information systems has become an essential precondition for achieving information system success. For information system success, it is essential to identify the factors affecting it. The purpose of this study is to identify those factors affecting successful implementation of information system enabling IoT coupled with Artificial Intelligence in the proposed Smart Cities of India (SCI).

Factors Affecting Acceptance of Hospital Information Systems Based on Extended Technology Acceptance Model: A Case Study in Three Paraclinical Departments.

Regardless of the acceptance of users, information and communication systems can be considered as a health intervention designed to improve the care delivered to patients. This study aimed to determine the adoption and use of the extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM2) by the users of hospital information system (HIS) in paraclinical departments including laboratory, radiology, and nutrition and to investigate the key factors of adoption and use of these systems. A standard questionnaire was used to collect the data from nearly 253 users of these systems in paraclinical departments of eight university hospitals in two different cities of Iran. A total of 202 questionnaires including valid responses were used in this study (105 in Urmia and 97 in Khorramabad). The data were processed using LISREL and SPSS software and statistical analysis technique was based on the structural equation modeling (SEM). It was found that the original TAM constructs had a significant impact on the staffs' behavioral intention to adopt HIS in paraclinical departments. The results of this study indicated that cognitive instrumental processes (job relevance, output quality, result demonstrability, and perceived ease of use), except for result demonstrability, were significant predictors of intention to use, whereas the result revealed no significant relationship between social influence processes (subjective norm, voluntariness, and image) and the users' behavioral intention to use the system. The results confirmed that several factors in the TAM2 that were important in previous studies were not significant in paraclinical departments and in government-owned hospitals. The users' behavior factors are essential for successful usage of the system and should be considered. It provides valuable information for hospital system providers and policy makers in understanding the adoption challenges as well as practical guidance for the successful implementation of information systems in paraclinical departments.

Multi-level analysis framework for reviewing IDT-based studies

AbstractResearchers have for years emphasized the value of multi-level studies. This research attempts to develop a framework for analyzing IT adoption studies from a multi-level perspective. Specifically, it examines research involving Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT), using a framework devised on the multi-level analysis guidelines proposed by two studies. Four empirical IDT-based research papers are reviewed by applying the developed multi-level analysis framework. In doing so, this paper finds that by following the proposed framework, researchers can avoid the weakness of level bias caused by single-level analysis. In addition, the framework provides insights for managerial strategies in successful information system implementation, adoption and diffusion. Finally, the proposed framework can be referenced by future researchers for conducting multi-level analysis on IT adoption-related topics.

If we implement it, will they come? User resistance in post-acceptance usage behaviour within a business intelligence systems context

The aim of this article is to examine individual, corporate and technology-related factors that shape user resistance in business intelligence systems (BIS) post-acceptance usage behaviour. The author develops a conceptual framework and a series of propositions, grounded on previous studies of user resistance to information systems (IS) and post-acceptance usage. The framework proposes that three individual-level variables (loss of power, change in decision-making approach, change of job or job skills), four corporate-level variables (information culture, communication, user training, service quality) and a technology-related variable (system issues) can be attributed to fuel user resistance towards BIS post-acceptance usage stages. A series of propositions is offered that aims to stimulate empirical research in this topical subject. Despite wide acknowledgement of the importance of user resistance for IS implementation success, this area has been under-researched in the field of BIS. This article draws insights from theoretical and empirical studies to shed some light on this area. A framework is presented which transcends previous works on user resistance to IS by looking at the context of BIS use within the voluntary use environment.

Critical Success Factors of IS Implementation

Recently, the use of information technology has become important and critical, for organizations, as it enhance the quality of products and integrity of organizational services. However, the implementation of such systems is still problematic. Due to globalization and the variation in the monetary, social and technological environments, Information Systems (IS) have turned out to be an imperative feature and high priority for different kind of organizations. In this regard, critical success factors play a vital role in successful implementation of IS. This paper evaluates and analyzes the critical success factors (CSFs) of IS implementation from the Saudi managers’ perspective in different industries in Saudi Arabia. This study will also present the illustration or identification of 19 critical success factors, which are based on a review of literatures and the first phase of a study in Saudi industries. The study will also rank those 19 factors in a logical way and will characterize them into three categories of factors, including organisational, human and technological factors.
