Evaluation Teaching Performance of Faculty Members at the Faculty of Education, University of Sirte in Libya From the View Point of College Students as an Approach to Achieve Quality of University Education.

The present study aims to evaluate the teaching performance of the faculty member at the Faculty of Education, University of Sirte, from the point of view of the students of the faculty as an approach to achieve quality in university education. The study uses the descriptive analytical method using the evaluation card of the faculty member in the fields of lecture planning, preparation, human relations, and evaluation methods. The study reached a number of conclusions, most notably: - Evaluation of the performance of the faculty member at the Faculty of Education is moderate, reflecting the dissatisfaction of students with this performance. - There are no statistically significant differences at the level of 0.01 due to the variables of gender, the semester, and the course in their responses about evaluating the performance of the faculty member. - There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance 0.05 for the variable of the scientific departments in the responses of students about the evaluation of the performance of the faculty member of the Faculty of Education in favor of the departments of (Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology).

Finding collective strength in collective despair; exploring the link between generic critical feedback and student performance

ABSTRACT Whilst formative feedback has been highlighted as a key element in both student satisfaction and learning, research highlights the dissatisfaction of both tutors and students with its effectiveness in improving performance. This study tracks changes in undergraduate student satisfaction and performance across three cohorts in response to variations in group-level feedback. The findings of the study show that an increased level of generic critical feedback targeted at the group had a positive impact on individual student performance, but a corresponding negative impact of student satisfaction scores. Thus, whilst the student cohort experienced a sense of collective despair, this did not constrain their ability to change and adapt to the feedback given. It is argued that instead of triggering a process of self-reflection and peer comparison, the group feedback given, increased team spirit and collective action, resulting in improved academic buoyancy and performance.

“Godina raspleta” – Jugoslavija 1968: studentske demonstracije i tuzlanske reakcije

The protests that affected the student population in 1968 around the world did not go beyond Yugoslavia. The first Belgrade, and then the students of other Yugoslav universities, launched demonstrations and highlighted the demands for more equitable relations in society. Student demonstrations in Yugoslavia that erupted in June 1968, were a series of public demonstrations and strikes and other protest actions that took place at universities in Yugoslavia, with special emphasis on demonstrations of students from the Belgrade University. The year 1968 is a symbol of revolution and historical change in society, and student revolutionary mood, mini-revolution, demonstrations, riots and dissatisfaction spread from the United States to Europe, and from Paris through Prague to Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana and Sarajevo. Student dissatisfaction was initiated by the inefficiency of the implementation of economic and social reform, and the decline in the standard of living not only of the broader strata of society, which had a negative impact on the student population. During the student mini-revolution, they were trying to gain for their ideals the working class, convincing them in equal interests and the only way to the desired goal, but without success. In this connection, this paper seeks to draw on the basis of the press (Oslobodjenje and Front Freedom) and letters and telegrams addressed to the Union of Students of the Belgrade University to demonstrate that the employees of the company and mine in the Tuzla region reacted to these student demonstrations in Belgrade, then the schools, college students and others. By holding a meeting of working collectives, choirs, then sending letters and telegrams, they condemned the actions of students, but also gave full support to Tito in building a self-managing socialist society.

The Aachen model study course in medicine - development and implementation. Fifteen years of a reformed medical curriculum at RWTH Aachen University.

Objective: The Aachen model study course in medicine was developed in response to a negative appraisal of the Faculty of Medicine of the RWTH Aachen University by the Science Council in 2000. The aim is to create graduates who are capable of further training and can work in evidence-based and patient-centered health care while incorporating scientific findings. Methodology: In 2003 the medical degree was fully switched over to the model study course format. This means an annual cohort size of about 280 students. These go through a modularized and integrated curriculum, which is designed as a learning spiral. This requires a special interdisciplinary collaboration of teachers and curriculum planners. In addition to the modules, longitudinal elements such as workplace-based examinations, communication or practical skills are embedded in the curriculum.Results: The state exam results of the Aachen graduates have already improved significantly even for the first cohort and the university has been able to maintain an almost uninterrupted high level from 2008 to 2018. The students satisfaction with the model course is not only evident in the student course assessment and qualitative group discussions but also in various national rankings. Conclusion: The complete redesign of the course starting from the first semester onwards posed major challenges for all those involved in the faculty. The implementation of a completely reformed curriculum, such as the model study course, can only succeed through constructive cooperation of the various stakeholders at a faculty. The reorientation was able to address the major flaws of the 2002 report by the Science Council, student dissatisfaction and the poor performance in the nationwide state exams.

“She was on my side, and grounded me when I needed it:” Research supervision in the field of therapy, based on counsellors’ and psychotherapists’ views on their engagement with research

AbstractResearch‐supported practice is increasingly emphasised within counselling and psychotherapy at all stages of training. Guided by an interest in how to support therapists in their efforts to develop research knowledge during doctoral training, this paper focuses on research supervision. Research supervision is a surprisingly under‐researched area. Little is known to date about how supervisors “go about their supervision” (Bruce & Stoodley, 2013, p. 5), despite the fact that “high failure rates for research dissertations in the social sciences have been partly attributed to student dissatisfaction with supervision and poor student–supervisor relationships” (Armstrong, 2004, p. 134). Between 2016 and 2019, we explored accredited counsellors' and 'psychotherapists engagement with research during or after their doctoral training. This paper explores research supervision with these two previous studies serving as the backdrop (Bager‐Charleson et al., 2018; Bager‐Charleson et al., 2018b), together with a literature review into research supervision within social sciences and psychotherapy. Supervision is discussed as a crucial coping/support strategy to (a) link research with practice in therapy work, practically and epistemologically; (b) contain and make sense of the use of transformative learning; (c) balance “enculturation” with critical thinking and emancipation; and (d) support reflective and reflexive development. This paper discusses an adaptive research supervision model, akin to a “holding bond” (Stevens, 2016) which supports the student to reflexively position her/himself personally, intersubjectively, theoretically and socio‐culturally, whilst “negotiating the tension” (Lee, 2008) during a process of enculturation into the discipline, and also fostering critical thinking and emancipation to contribute to new knowledge.

Development of Plants and Animals Puppet Media Based on Conservation Values in Learning to Write Creative Drama Scripts in Elementary Schools

This research is motivated dissatisfaction of teachers and students on learning media in school. The purpose of this study is (1) describe the development needs of plants and animals puppet media, (2) determining the value of the puppet characters of plants and animals, (3) describe the use of plants and animals puppet media, (4) test the effectiveness of the use of plants and animals puppet media. The method used is Research and Development (R & D). The eight stages covering explore the potential and problems, analyze the needs, preparation of media design, media validation, revision, testing a limited scale, revision back, and wide-scale trials. The results of this study indicate that (a) the needs of the media by the learner, including packaging, contents, materials, physical, and values contained in the media; (B) the character of the value of plants and animals puppet media is conservation values; (C) the utilization of plants and animals puppet media carried out in groups with one group consists of 2-3 people; (D) the development of plants and animals puppets charged effective conservation for students fifth grade elementary school.

Qualitative Analysis of Satisfying and Dissatisfying Factors in a University–Industry Cooperation Programme

Using qualitative semistructured interviews, this study aims to analyse the satisfying and dissatisfying factors in a university–industry cooperation programme. Work experience, monetary benefit, HR policies, language and time are important factors determining the satisfaction and dissatisfaction of students towards a university–industry cooperation programme. Results help in evaluating and identifying the sustainability of a programme. Marketing practitioners can consider the results in designing corresponding marketing strategies, and HR managers and programme coordinators can formulate guidelines for future improvements of related programmes.

Exploring the ‘wicked’ problem of student dissatisfaction with assessment and feedback in higher education

ABSTRACTStudent dissatisfaction with assessment and feedback is a significant challenge for most UK Higher Education Institutions according to a key national survey. This paper explores the meaning, challenges and potential opportunities for enhancement in assessment and feedback within the authors' own institution as illustrative of approaches that can be taken elsewhere. Using a qualitative design, a review of assessment and feedback, which included an exploration of students' perceptions, was made in one College of the University. The findings highlighted variations in assessment and feedback practice across the College with dissatisfaction typically being due to misunderstanding or miscommunication between staff and students. Drawing on the review, we assert in this paper that students' dissatisfaction with assessment and feedback is not a 'tame' problem for which a straightforward solution exists. Instead, it is a 'wicked' problem that requires a complex approach with multiple interventions.

Effects of Perfectionism, Self-Presentational Motivation and Body Dissatisfaction of Female College Students on Cosmetic Surgery Attitude

This study focused on cosmetic surgery attitude in female college students. This study reviewed the literature on perfectionism, self-Presentational motivation as individual personality factors and body dissatisfaction, and empirically examined the effects of these variables on cosmetic surgery attitude. The questionnaires were administered on 301 female college students. We performed a structural equation model analysis to verify our hypothesis. The results are as follows. First, although both self-oriented perfectionism and socially-prescribed perfectionism were not directly related to cosmetic surgery attitude, they had an indirect influence through mediation of body dissatisfaction. Second, both self-oriented perfectionism and socially-prescribed perfectionism were directly related self presentation motivation, but self presentation was not directly related to cosmetic surgery attitude. Therefore, there was no mediating effect of self presentation motivation in the effect of perfectionism on cosmetic surgery attitude. Finally, self presentation motivation was directly related to body dissatisfaction and body dissatisfaction was also directly related to cosmetic surgery attitude. These results indicate that perfectionism. These results indicate that personality factors and body images are important concepts for explaining cosmetic surgery behavior for appearance management. This paper concludes by discussing the study’s implication and limitations.

Student activism in a time of crisis in South Africa: The quest for ‘black power’

Higher Education in South Africa has been in crisis over recent years. University systems in many parts of South Africa have witnessed student protest, as well as ongoing violence, resulting in many campuses turning into spaces of violent confrontation between students and police. This paper examines student social activism in the higher education sector in South Africa, especially the Nelson Mandela University, as well as the patterns that exist and frame student social activism in pursuit of ‘black power.’ Furthermore, the paper notes the strong sense of solidarity and unity amongst students, despite these existent challenges. The paper will also present a historical analysis of student activism in South Africa with the aim of demonstrating the longstanding and persistent student politics as well as the student dissatisfaction with, the way in which the higher education has been governed in South Africa. Beginning an Engineer's Journey: A Narrative Examination of How, When, and Why Students Choose the Engineering Major

AbstractBackgroundWhile recent engineering education research has focused on the pathways that students take as they transition into engineering programs in higher education, little has explicitly focused on developing an understanding of students as they select and transfer into engineering from other majors.PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to gain a better understanding of how engineering students enter the engineering field by comparing commonalities across their experiences. Given recent literature that describes student dissatisfaction toward, misinformation about, and attrition in engineering programs, we explore the lived experiences of students entering the engineering field, with a particular focus on students changing their majors to engineering.MethodsThis paper synthesizes the stories of 21 undergraduate engineering students from a southeastern research university, 15 of whom began their undergraduate program in other majors and transferred into engineering. We employ a unique narrative structuralizing scheme based on Campbell's hero's journey and use the metaphor of the beginning of the journey to understand student trajectories that locate students in engineering studies.ConclusionsWith this information, we can better understand student conceptions of the engineering field when they enter; who enters the engineering field and why; how students’ expectations are met or not in engineering programs; and what are the factors that ultimately contribute to first‐year retention in engineering programs. In general, students entering engineering tend to have a limited understanding of what is entailed in an engineering program and benefit from interactions with advisors, teachers, and peers in the field. Such interactions may help students to more clearly decide what aspects of engineering are appropriate for them to pursue and help them to persist as they begin coursework.

Análise e proposta de melhorias para a satisfação dos discentes em relação aos momentos verdade em uma universidade pública

O setor de prestação de serviços está fortemente presente no dia a dia dos usuários, tendo uma significativa participação na economia do país. As universidades possuem papel fundamental para o desenvolvimento socioeconômico, já que são responsáveis pela formação de novos profissionais e, por isso, necessitam ter qualidade em relação aos serviços prestados pelos envolvidos (docentes, técnicos e gestores), e entender a percepção da qualidade dos serviços por parte dos clientes (discentes). Dessa forma, o trabalho objetivou avaliar a qualidade dos serviços prestados pelo campus de uma universidade pública, a partir do nível de satisfação dos clientes, em relação aos momentos verdade identificados. O estudo apresentado tem uma abordagem qualitativa, utilizando como método de pesquisa o estudo de caso. Após a análise dos resultados, identificou-se que a maioria das insatisfações dos alunos está relacionada aos bens facilitadores de serviços, como disponibilidade de livros e internet. A pesquisa proporcionou conhecimento sobre as causas das insatisfações dos alunos e oportunidades de melhoria, para garantir a qualidade dos serviços prestados. Também contribuiu para preencher uma lacuna da literatura sobre o uso dos momentos verdade na avaliação da qualidade dos serviços em universidades.

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING AS THE BASIS OF PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES ACQUISITION BY STUDENTS

The article deals with the issues of organization and carrying out practices of students of Salavat Branch of Ufa State Petroleum Technological University of technical directions of training of academic and applied bachelor degree. According to the Federal State Educational Standards, the curricula of all areas of training provide for the passage of three types of practices: educational, industrial and pre-diploma. For all types of practices departments developed guidelines, which for the acquisition of professional competencies established goals, objectives, practices, contents, list of materials needed to complete course projects and final qualifying works and others. In the work special attention is paid to the professional importance of industrial practice, it presents results and analysis of questionnaire of students on the organization and efficiency of industrial practices. The questionnaire offered to student trainees contained questions covering all aspects of industrial practice. According to the results of the questionnaire, the degree of satisfaction with the practice of students in the areas of training, the difficulties they encountered during the practice, the main reasons for dissatisfaction with the industrial practice are presented. So, the dissatisfaction of students with the organization of practice both from the side of the university and the bases of practices made it possible to assess the need to take certain measures to increase the effectiveness of all types of practices, acquire professional competencies and provide the labor market with highly qualified specialists. It is shown that the close cooperation of the university with the enterprise is an important step for the effective organization of the industrial practice and its successful passage. With the cooperation of the Salavat branch of USPTU and Gazprom neftekhim Salavat LLC, important areas of work are being implemented: the participation of employers in the formation of curricula and working training programs, the adjustment of the requirements for the level of professional competence of students, the implementation of targeted training of specialists for the order of the enterprise, and scientific and technical potential of the enterprise in the educational process on the basis of the creation of basic departments, conducting master classes for students on the production practice areas. It is shown that for the organization of effective industrial training a systematic approach and close trilateral cooperation are necessary both from the side of the enterprise and from the educational organization and students.

Interrelationship between Perceived Instructor Power, Student Dissatisfaction, and Complaint Behaviors in the Context of Higher Education

Instructor is granted with some basic forms of power to influence student behaviors. Students tend to perceive themselves in an inferior position due to the power imbalance between instructors and students. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the interrelationships between perceived instructor power, student dissatisfaction and complaint behaviors in the context of higher education. The present study employed quantitative research methodology using survey questionnaire to collect data. Results from structural equation modeling indicated that students are more likely to engage in private complaining behavior and third party complaining behavior when instructor exhibited legitimate power, while perceived referent power is more associated with voice and third party complaining behavior. It was also noticeable that the student dissatisfaction can mediate the power-complaining behavior link. This research can be practically applied in the higher education institutions on how certain power bases can lead to student dissatisfaction and modes of complaining.

The Examination of the Reasons for the Need to Change and Integrate in the Dental Curriculum in Iran and the World

Objectives The aim of this research was to examine reasons for need to change and bring about integration in dental curriculum in Iran and worldwide. Methods The qualitative method was used in this research. The real experiences of some reliable universities over world and in Iran were studied on necessity to change dental curriculum and integrated curriculum through library studies. In addition, information obtained from this study was analyzed and interpreted based on theoretical reasoning and empirical achievements of authoritative and reliable universities. Results The result of examination of these experiences of various universities on modification and integration of dental curriculum showed that high cost of education in this discipline and dissatisfaction of students with teaching methods in this field were among most important reasons for change in dental curriculum in Iran and globally. The integrated pattern of curriculum of universities was associated with positive consequences on review and applied changes in dental curriculum. Conclusion In total, axis of activities of changing and modifying curriculum in these universities was established by focus on integrated approaches, including educating research, the evidence-based dental”, and entering new knowledge in dental curriculum.

Beyond Autonomy:

What is studying in its difference from institutions? Benjamin took up the problem of studying with all the energy of his student dissatisfaction. In one of his early texts he investigates the “life of students” under the aspect of a historical concept in which history appears to be concentrated in a single focal point, like those traditionally found in the utopian images of the philosophers. He goes on to speak of elements of an ultimate condition that are deeply embedded in every present day. I would like to take these propositions as hints to the Benjaminian concept of study, and I want to show how Benjamin’s program to grasp student life metaphysically involves a fundamental connection between the practice of study and a discontinuous concept of time.

Matching medical student achievement to learning objectives and outcomes: a paradigm shift for an implemented teaching module

IntroductionLow student achievement in a basic imaging module was the impetus for an assessment of the module.MethodsA valid, reliable, and structured Likert scale was designed to measure the degree of student satisfaction with the domains of the module, including learning objectives (LO), teaching strategy and tools (TT), assessment tools (AT), and allotted credit hours (CH). Further analysis was conducted of student dissatisfaction to determine the subdomain in which module improvement was to be implemented. Statistical analysis of data among Likert scale domains was conducted.ResultsLikert scale data showed the TT domain to be the major reason for low student achievement. Statistical studies revealed 57/117 students (48.6%) were dissatisfied with TT, compared with LO 16/117 (13.6%), AT 54/117 (46.1%), and CH 12/117 (10.2%). Significant P-values were obtained for LO vs TT (P<0.0001), LO vs AT (P<0.0001), LO vs CH (P<0.03), TT vs CH (P<0.0001), and AT vs CH (P<0.0001). No significant difference was observed between TT and AT (P<0.29). Regarding TT, 41/117 (34.9%) students were dissatisfied with lectures (L) compared to hospital-based teaching (HPT) 24/117 (20%), problem-based learning (PBL) 8/117 (6.8%), self-directed learning (SDL) 3/117 (2.5%), and seminars (S) 4/117 (3.4%). Significant P-values were obtained for L vs HPT (P<0.0001), L vs PBL (P<0.0001), L vs SDL (P<0.0001), L vs S (P<0.0001), HPT vs PBL (P<0.002), HPT vs SDL (P<0.0001), and HPT vs S (P<0.0001). Regarding lecture modifications, student satisfaction was 78.3% compared to 52% before modification. A significant P-value (P<0.0001) was obtained between Likert scale domains before and after modification. Lecture modification resulted in a good student response and satisfaction.ConclusionThe major reason for low student achievement was the teaching tools, particularly the lectures. Major modifications to lectures improved student achievement. The students and most of the teaching staff were highly satisfied with the modifications, which provided for reciprocal discussion and interaction. These results should encourage and guide other medical schools to investigate the points of weakness in their curriculum.

Study of Commitment to The Organization Based on Intrinsic and Extrinsic Job Satisfaction on Private Campus

Competition in education industry especially college is very tight. It is experienced by STIE XYZ which does not reach the target of new student admission in 2015 and 2016. Unachieved student targets are added to the level of student discharge at the 2nd level of 10-15% of the total students of the first batch. One of the causes of the decline and discharge rate of students is possible because of student dissatisfaction. The organizational commitment questionnaire (OCQ) designed by Allen &amp; Mayer (1990) is enhanced by Ikwukananne I. Udechukwu (2006) used as a measurement tool for affective commitment, continuance commitment, and normative commitment. This study is descriptive by using questionnaire respondents as much as the population of 39 permanent employees of STIE XYZ in 2015. The data were processed using SPSS 21 for instrument test, classical assumption test and hypothesis test with t-test. The results show that commitment to the organization is positively influenced by inner job satisfaction and is not influenced by extrinsic job satisfaction. Inintrinsic job satisfaction that needs to be considered is the issue of security/stability and job authority. Some suggestions that can be done is to provide a clear job description and standard operating procedures when employees occupy job positions, career paths for employees, job rotation based on employee competence and the need for information disclosure according to procedures and authority.

Study of Quassessment Model for Campus Pedestrian Ways, Case Study: Sidewalk of the University of Lampung

The condition of pedestrian ways on campuses in Indonesia has become a serious problem because of the gap between regulations on pedestrian ways and reality. This condition affects students’ satisfaction as they move around. This research attempts to develop an evaluation model and test it on the sidewalks of the University of Lampung campus. The method used in this study is a qualitative-quantitative method (mix methods), collecting data through literature questionnaires and observations. For data analysis, quantitative content analysis and statistical analysis were used to determine the correlation between predominant variables and students’ overall satisfaction. This study found five dimensions of an evaluation model introduced by quassessment: quality, design, safety, sensory, amenities. It also found that the dominant factors that cause student dissatisfaction are concerns with durability of path material, aesthetics, and continuity of path without significant elevation differences. The dominant factors that potentially bring more satisfaction to students are durability of path material, aesthetics, and availability of shelter. On the other hand, observation, absence of obstruction, continuity of path without significant elevation differences, and durability of path material are the most common factors. Also, it has been found that overall satisfaction has a correlation with five dominant factors, which are durability of path material factor (0.62), absence of obstruction (0.60), continuity of path without significant elevation differences (0.69), aesthetics (0.59), and availability of shelter (0.53).
