Readiness Through International Cooperation: Finnish Defence Industrial Strategy in Changing Operational Environment from the Mid-1990s to the Early 2020s

ABSTRACT After the Cold War, European defence industrial capacity decreased; however, in the 2020s, there is again a need for products of the defence industry. Although Finland is a small country, it has significant production capacity for defence materials. In this paper, we analyse how Finland preserved it in changing operational environment. We utilize points of departure of source-based historical research to give any reader an idea over the history of the theme. To conduct this, we have used publicly available documents and other texts, which are findable from Finnish repositories, and analyse what was Finnish policy and why it was formulated in relation to wider security political contexts. Additionally, we will analyse the available statistical data related to exports of the Finnish defence industry as they are a key part of Finnish policy. Using statistical and econometrical tools enables us to reveal important tren5ds that could otherwise be left unnoticed. Our statistical sources include, for instance, Finnish Government publications, arms industry databases of AFDA and SIPRI, SaferGlobe data, and LSEG Data & Analytics platform. Our data sources contain the most reliable and informative data available publicly.

Combined Application Strategy of Biochar/Phosphate Fertilizer Affects the rice Production by Regulating Soil Bacteria Taxa Composition

Phosphate fertilizer affects the rice yield and has a critical role in arable land management. Biochar regulates soil nutrient and soil microbe taxa composition. Our study aimed to elucidate the effects of co-application for biochar-phosphate on soil nutrient indicators, soil microorganisms, and crop production. Our experiment was set up as follows: 0 t/hm2, 28 t/hm2, and 55 t/hm2 biochar application rates with 20 kg/hm2, 40 kg/hm2, and 60 kg/hm2 phosphate fertilizer. The rice yield and soil nutrient indexes were observed and the differences between groups were analyzed based on multiple comparisons. 16S ribosomal DNA sequencing was used to analyze the soil bacteria structure. Redundancy analysis was performed to obtain the correlation relationships between microbial community marker species, soil nutrient indexes, and rice yield. The results showed that a higher application rate of biochar led to a significant alteration in the soil water content, bulk density, alkali-hydrolyzed nitrogen, and available phosphate content. In addition, high concentrations of biochar-phosphate fertilizer application elevated the soil bacterial diversity. Biochar had various effects on the relative abundance of soil bacteria taxa. Our study provided a theoretical basis for exploring efficient fertilization strategies in the rice cultivation industry and shed light on the extensive biochar application in agriculture production.

Analysis on the Development and Marketing Strategy of Chinese Classical Music Industry in the New Media Era

Classical music, renowned for its cultural and aesthetic value, faces significant challenges in maintaining its popularity in today's fast-paced, technology-driven world. In China, the classical music market is diverse yet fragmented, primarily appealing to an older demographic. This trend is exacerbated by minimal exposure among younger generations, limited classical music education in schools, and scant media coverage, all contributing to declining youth participation. This study evaluates the economic benefits and marketing impact of China's classical music industry, examining various income sources and current marketing strategies used by symphony orchestras and other organizations. By identifying strengths and weaknesses, the study proposes innovative marketing strategies to attract younger audiences and offers practical recommendations to ensure the growth and sustainability of classical music in China. The research acknowledges limitations due to reliance on secondary economic data, suggesting future studies conduct primary research for more precise insights.

Research on the Development Strategy of Integrated Seed Sales Industry

The seed sales industry has achieved rapid development with mankind entering the Internet era. In recent years, the seed sales industry has developed rapidly, and competition within the industry has continued to intensify. In order to achieve commercial benefits, there are many irregularities in the industry chain. Currently, solving various irregularities in industrial development and achieving industry breakthroughs are urgent problems to be solved. This study proposes an industrial development strategy for the integration of seed sales, which involves the use and combination of information system technology and comprehensive sales platforms to achieve the integration of seed research and development, production, sales, transportation, and after-sales services, as well as value co creation throughout the seed sales industry chain, promoting high-quality and sustainable development of the industry.

Optimasi Konten Instagram dalam Strategi Promosi Bisnis Foto Pernikahan Sekawan Stories

Photography has grown rapidly, especially in the wedding photography industry which now requires an effective business promotion strategy. This research aims to identify how business people utilize Instagram as a promotional medium and strengthen Instagram content in Sekawan Stories' wedding photography business promotion strategy. Using a descriptive qualitative method, this study collected data through interviews and virtual ethnographic observations to understand how Sekawan Stories utilizes Instagram as a promotional medium. The results show that Sekawan Stories effectively utilizes various Instagram features, such as Feed, Instastory, Highlight, Video Reels, and Instagram Ads to increase visibility and audience engagement. Their marketing strategies include endorsements with well-known vendors, use of the Answer Question feature, conducting giveaways, and offering discounts at certain moments. Instagram provides a great opportunity for wedding photography businesses to expand their market reach and increase promotional effectiveness. By optimizing their content and marketing strategies on Instagram, Sekawan Stories managed to attract the attention of new customers, increase interaction, and strengthen relationships with existing customers. Overall, Instagram proved to be a highly effective platform in digital marketing strategies in the wedding photography industry.

Anticorrosion properties of flavonoids for rust-free building materials: a review

Abstract Rust-free building materials are crucial for ensuring the durability and structural stability of constructions. Corrosion, a widespread issue affecting metals like steel, copper, and concrete, can be effectively managed with the help of corrosion inhibitors. One effective method for corrosion inhibition involves the application of corrosion-inhibiting coatings, which form resilient and tightly adherent films on metal surfaces. Flavonoids, renowned for their diverse biological activities, demonstrate significant anticorrosive properties. They contain beneficial compounds such as antioxidants and chelating agents. The efficacy of plant extracts as corrosion inhibitors is influenced by their organic constituents, particularly phenols and flavonoids. Flavonoids act by creating a protective film that serves as a barrier, shielding the metal surface from corrosive agents and limiting their access to the metal. This contributes to the prevention of corrosion. The integration of flavonoids into building materials has the potential to transform corrosion prevention practices, leading to improved durability, reduced maintenance costs, and a more environmentally friendly built environment. This article explores the promising prospects of flavonoids as an innovative and sustainable approach to corrosion prevention in building materials. Additionally, it aims to stimulate further research endeavors, fostering the development of effective and eco-friendly corrosion protection strategies for the construction industry.

The aim of this research is to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing the large-scale halal food and beverage industry Indonesian small and medium enterprises and formulate industrial development strategies Indonesian halal food and drinks. To identify strategies for developing halal food products in Indonesia using SWOT analysis. The approach taken is a desk study approach where secondary data is obtained from various journal articles, statistical report data, reports from government agencies related to food, electronic news and other secondary data.

Research findings indicate that digital transformation has become a primary driver of marketing innovation, with the utilization of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and blockchain opening new opportunities for personalization and creativity in marketing. A significant shift towards value-based and sustainable marketing strategies is identified as a response to consumer demands for ethical and sustainable products and services. Collaboration and co-creation with consumers emerge as effective approaches to enhance product relevance and build customer loyalty. Adaptability and flexibility of marketing strategies prove crucial in facing rapidly changing market dynamics. Seamless integration between online and offline marketing is found to be key in creating holistic customer experiences. This study concludes that marketing innovation plays a vital role in enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of the creative industry. Recommendations include investing in digital capabilities, developing value-based strategies, strengthening consumer collaboration, increasing organizational flexibility, and optimizing the integration of online-offline strategies. The implications of this research are relevant for creative industry practitioners, policymakers, and researchers in the fields of marketing and creative industries.

The New EU Industrial Policy: Opening Up New Frontiers for Financial Capital

The EU has implemented a whole array of industrial policy programmes over the past decade to bolster the competitiveness of selected knowledge-intensive industries and to induce a digital and green transition. Responding to shifting competitive challenges in global capitalism, and the adoption of industrial strategies by other major economies, the new EU industrial policy seeks to onshore manufacturing capacity in sectors of geoeconomic importance, and simultaneously reduce dependencies on global value chains. Drawing on a historical materialist perspective, this article historizes and contextualises the financing strategies adopted within EU industrial policy. Faced with tight budgetary constraints, and deficit spending not being an option at the EU level, unlocking private investment takes centre stage, such as by tapping into capital markets or using member state aid or EU structural funds as a precursor, as well as by incentivising private investments through risk-absorbing financial instruments that rely on the EU budgetary resources. As will be shown, the EU has been experimenting with such risk-absorbing financial gimmicks for industrial policy purposes since the 1990s; yet, their usage has reached unprecedented levels with the heightened geoeconomic tensions since the 2008 and Covid-19 crises. The article demonstrates moreover that organised factions within financial and industrial capital have actively advocated for public safeguards, and that their deployment thus is not merely a functionalist response to shifting power dynamics or a desperate last resort in the absence of a supranational fiscal policy.

Exploring the effectiveness of employee engagement strategies in the manufacturing industry: a South African perspective

The paint manufacturing sector has not received sufficient attention, having its unique challenges with employee engagement, despite numerous investigations on employee engagement in several industries. This study seeks to address this deficiency by performing a targeted investigation on the levels of employee involvement within the paint manufacturing sector. This study aims to assess the level of employee involvement in the paint manufacturing industry in South Africa. This study systematically assesses the strategies and practices of employee engagement implemented by paint manufacturing companies operating in the region. This study utilises a mixed methods approach and follows an exploratory research design to accomplish its objectives. This methodology utilises many research techniques to provide a thorough understanding of the complex employee engagement processes in the paint manufacturing industry. The survey instrument, comprising of 320 questionnaires, was distributed to managerial professionals, human resource practitioners, and general employees working at paint production plants in South Africa. In addition to collecting quantitative data, interviews were undertaken to further enrich the depth of insights. The findings reveal a beneficial and interconnected link between the factors studied, suggesting a reciprocal strengthening that enhances employee engagement. Moreover, the study highlights the complex interconnection between the six aspects of employee involvement in the company environment. These characteristics jointly contribute to the fundamental aspects of employee engagement within paint manufacturing firms. Industry stakeholders should work together to develop an organisational culture that is deeply ingrained in the industry's identity and resonates with all personnel. One key remedy suggested is to conduct an employee engagement survey across the entire organisation, which will help gain a thorough understanding of engagement dynamics. This study highlights a strong association between employee engagement, departmental affiliation, racial demographics, and age groups. Therefore, organisations can improve workplace engagement by carefully taking into account the impact of departmental divisions, racial origins, and age cohorts on the overall engagement picture. The study's findings shed light on the significant influence of these factors in determining the dynamics of employee engagement.

The Designing Garuda Indonesia Travel Fair Event Poster At Garuda Indonesia Booth Using Maluku Kakehan Motifs

Indonesian tourism is a key driver of the national economy, with the potential to spur significant economic growth. The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism is committed to enhancing both the quantity and quality of tourism through various initiatives. Collaborative efforts between the government, industry, and community groups are exemplified in events like the Travel and Holiday Fair Jakarta, Indonesia Tourism Creative Economic Fair Jakarta, and Garuda Indonesia Travel Fair (GATF). These travel fairs are becoming essential sales promotion strategies for the Indonesian tourism industry, helping to introduce new products and stimulate public interest.One such initiative, the Garuda Indonesia Travel Fair, also plays a vital role in promoting the rich cultural heritage of Maluku by featuring the Kakehan Motif, a stylized sun ornament symbol from the Alifuru tribe on Seram Island. This study, using descriptive qualitative methods, explores the design of a booth exhibition that incorporates the Kakehan Motif to showcase and celebrate Maluku’s culture. The booth not only serves as a promotional platform for Maluku Province at the Garuda Indonesia Travel Fair but also acts as a communication medium, offering visitors an immersive experience. It provides a practical space for the creative expression of ideas and serves as a promotional tool for companies, institutions, and organizations. Through this visual media, the booth aims to elevate the Kakehan Motif's prominence, contributing to the broader efforts of cultural preservation and tourism promotion in Indonesia.

Cointegrating and causality relationship between exports and economic growth: case for Botswana

The study employed the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) Bounds model to test for cointegration and the Toda and Yamamoto and Dolado and Lütkepohl (TYDL) model to examine the direction of causality between exports and economic growth for Botswana covering the period 1980 to 2021. Exports statistically positively affect economic growth both in the short-run and long-run and trade openness is detrimental to economic growth both in the short-run and long-run. Economic growth promotes exports both in the short-run and long-run. Economic growth granger causes exports and indirectly influences exports through trade openness and consumer price index. Furthermore, there exists bidirectional causality between economic growth and the consumer price index. The findings underscore the importance of maintaining a healthy and stable macroeconomic environment in Botswana. In addition, a well-rounded approach that considers both export-oriented industrialization and import substitution strategies remains essential for a robust economic growth trajectory.

Functionalized flattened bamboo board: In-situ immersion assembly of flame-retardant, waterproof and anti-mold composite coatings

The flattened bamboo board (FB) represents a promising innovation in the bamboo industry. To address the challenges of flammability and hygroscopicity, composite coatings consisting of melamine (MEL), phytic acid (PA), cerium ions (Ce3+), and sodium laurate (La) are assembled on the FB surface through an in-situ impregnation strategy. The resulting MEL/PA-Ce3+@La FB exhibits exceptional flame retardancy. It achieves a V-0 rating in the vertical burning test (UL-94) and boasts a high limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of 38.5 %. The coated FB exhibits superhydrophobicity, evidenced by a water contact angle of 156.5°, which can be attributed to the in-situ growth of PA-Ce3+ complexes (for constructing micro/nanoscale coarse structures) and the modification with La (for reducing surface energy).This superhydrophobic surface imparts both self-cleaning and anti-mold properties to the coated FB. Moreover, the coated FB exhibits excellent mechanical stability, withstanding 36 cycles of sandpaper abrasion and tape peeling without losing its hydrophobicity. In summary, this work provides an innovative strategy for the bamboo processing industry to produce flattened bamboo boards with combined flame retardancy, superhydrophobic and anti-mold properties. Such versatility holds significant potential to facilitate the utilization of flattened bamboo boards in the construction and decorative materials industries.

Catering to Luxury Chinese Tourists Demand: Insights from Malaysian Inbound Travel Agencies

ABSTRACT The shift toward luxury tourism has engendered a new class of high-end Chinese tourists, presenting significant opportunities for generating substantial revenue through premium tourism products and services. This study specifically explores Malaysian inbound travel agencies’ perceptions, preparedness, and challenges in attracting luxury Chinese tourists. Through qualitative interviews and thematic analysis, this study delves into nine Malaysian inbound travel agencies’ perspectives on attracting luxury Chinese tourists. The qualitative findings reveal distinct characteristics and preferences of Chinese luxury tourists, notably their substantial financial capability, penchant for shopping activities, preference for authentic local Chinese cuisine, and the significance of Mandarin-speaking tour guides. The Chinese tourists also seek high standards and exclusivity, aspire for unique experiences, and often desire customization in their travel itineraries. However, challenges surface in meeting their unique preferences, including limited infrastructures, the need for customization in luxury services, and bureaucratic hurdles. Despite these challenges, travel agencies assert their readiness to cater to the demands of Chinese luxury tourists, actively promoting and enhancing their high-end offerings. By delving into these aspects, the study provides valuable practical and academic insights into industry strategies and the complexities of serving affluent tourist segments within a multicultural destination.

Labour strategies in the German automotive industry: limits and potentials of conversion from a Gramscian perspective

ABSTRACT The automotive industry’s transition toward electric vehicles is a key challenge for organised labour in the sector. In this context, shifting production towards socially and ecologically useful products through democratic decision-making, democratic conversion, can be a proactive just transition strategy for workers and contribute to the ecological reorganisation of production. This paper investigates the limits and potentials for this endeavour in the context of the German automotive industry by conducting a multi-level analysis of (1) the sectoral union IG Metall’s (IGM) strategies and its interrelation with (2) works council strategies at a major supplier utilising a Gramscian theoretical framework. I identify the main limitations and potentials for both realms, which interact with (3) the dominant understanding of the transition and (4) internal conditions for labour organising. I show that democratic conversion is a challenging proposal questioning key tenets of German industrial relations yet can provide innovative solutions addressing labour’s contemporary challenges.

Multi-dimensional equilibrium optimal allocation of water resources in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region through spatial association network analysis

The rapid social and economic development has led to problems such as over-exploitation of water resources, strong demand for physical water resources, and disequilibrium of water resources load. Based on the current situation of the water resources system in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, this study proposed an input–output analysis-assessment-prediction-optimization framework. A water resources dissipation environment extended multi-regional input–output model was established, and the spatial equilibrium of water resources load was evaluated comprehensively. Furthermore, a multi-dimensional spatial equilibrium optimal allocation for water resources was built to identify key nodes and sectors. The primary findings were as follows: (1) Shijiazhuang and Tangshan were the main cities with net virtual water outflow, while Beijing and Baoding were the primary recipients of net virtual water inflow; (2) The overall score for the spatial equilibrium assessment of water resource load was low, with dimension scores predominantly ranging between 0.2 and 0.6; (3) The key transfer nodes were predominantly concentrated on the “outflow from Shijiazhuang” and the “inflow to Cangzhou and Langfang” nodes. This research conducted an in-depth exploration of the direction of water resource transfers, the actual stress conditions, and the spatial equilibrium of water resources within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Finally, the future adjustment strategy for water-intensive industries at the urban agglomeration scale was obtained.

Rethinking External Environmental Analysis for Sustainable Development: The Case of a Beverage Manufacturing Industry in a Southern African Country

The advent of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Agenda 2030 ushered in a new way of thinking about the forces that drive change in the business environment. Literature suggests that sustainable development is a megaforce driving change globally and envelops the traditional political, economic, social, technological, and ecological (PESTE) forces approach. This article reframes the external environmental analysis to integrate SDGs into the business strategy of a beverage manufacturing industry. A qualitative design using snowball sampling resulted in semi-structured, face-to-face interviews that were audio recorded. Interviews were held with eight executives, one former executive, and three non-executive staff from four companies of a southern African country’s beverage manufacturing industry. The data exposed some ignorance on sustainable development. Many executives understood the importance of sustainable development without consensus on its exact nature and implementation in the organisational context. Thematic data analysis confirmed the relevance of sustainable development and the need to incorporate it in external environmental analysis. Categorising SDGs into a 5-P framework (people, prosperity, planet, peace, partnerships) and integrating it with the PESTE framework, the study provides a new approach/tool for external environmental analysis. This approach facilitates identification of SDGs that are relevant to business during strategic planning.
