Essential Package of Palliative Care for Iranian Children with Cancer

Background: Despite medical advancements and treatment development, children with cancer experience a wide range of symptoms related to the disease and treatment side effects. Providing palliative care is essential to improve the quality of life for both the child and the family. Given limited available resources, cost-effective service packages can address this need. Objectives: This study aimed to develop an essential palliative care package for children with cancer in Iran. Methods: The study was under Health System Research and employed an exploratory mixed method design in three phases. The initial stage involved two sub-studies including a review of literature and a qualitative study. In the subsequent phases, the package draft was compiled and validated using the Delphi technique with input from 12 experts. Results: The essential palliative care package for children with cancer comprised two main components: INPUT, including dimensions related to medicine, human resources, equipment, and service delivery setting. INTERVENTION, encompasses physical, psychological, social, spiritual symptom management, and growth and development. Conclusions: Customized for Iran's social and cultural context, this essential service package provides safe, efficient, convenient, and affordable care. Physicians and nurses with primary training can integrate it into primary care including home care, emphasizing the importance of palliative care.

Education of mercy as a traditional Russian value based on a modern teenage book

Introduction. The problem of studying ways and means of educating the younger generation of high moral ideals is an acutely urgent task of modern science, since it is a response to the challenges of the time, laid down in the basis of state policy to preserve and strengthen traditional Russian spiritual and moral values. The purpose of the article is to present the results of a study of the educational impact of a modern children's and youth book on the example of Elena Mamontova's novella "The White Owl" on understanding and strengthening such a traditional Russian spiritual and moral value as mercy. Materials and methods. The tools for socio-pedagogical research were 26 children's books – winners of literary prizes over the past ten years, from 2013 to 2023, and presented on official websites. Among them, the books most in demand by the children's readership were highlighted. The selection was carried out using the methods of analyzing readers' reviews, readers' forms of children's libraries and literary analysis of the ideological and artistic merits of the works. Based on the ideological and substantive criterion, the expert evaluation method selected E. Mamontova's novel "The White Owl" as having a spiritual and moral educational potential. Results. The author summarized the results of the experimental study. The subjects, 22 students of the 7th grade, teenagers of 13-14 years old, first independently, and then together with the teacher discussed traditional Russian values, primarily charity. After the initial independent reading of the book, 82% were able to understand the main idea of the work – the importance of mercy, which indicates the accessibility of the ideological and artistic system of the teenage book to readers. At the same time, special work in the lesson deepened and enriched the students' ideas about mercy: 100% realized the concept of mercy not just as a synonym for kindness, but as the ability to forgive out of compassion, humanity, and show leniency. 60% of the subjects somehow compare themselves with the characters of the story, noting a similar experience in their lives, which indicates a meaningful reading. In addition, some young readers, after special work with the book, were able to go beyond the specific situation and see the problem of mercy in a broad life perspective, talking about the fate of future generations. Conclusion. On an experimental basis, a conclusion is formulated about modern adolescent literature as an important resource for the spiritual development of the younger generation and the strengthening of its national identity. The conclusion is confirmed by the analysis of students' feedback on E. Mamontova's story "The White Owl", which contains moral lessons that allow preserving Russian national identity and help to educate a spiritually developed personality of a teenager.

One of the important pillars in education is the value of divinity, with the aim that students' morals and character can be formed. For this reason, in order for divine values to remain relevant, systematic and continuous efforts are needed. The month of Ramadan is the right time to increase religious values. One of the ways SMKN 1 Palopo City started the Ramadan Mainstay Mengaji Program is with the aim of improving the quality of Qur'an reading, and forming a more religious and noble character with a comprehensive method. The purpose of this service is to increase the understanding and practice of divine values among students. The program also aims to create an environment in the school that is more supportive of students' spiritual development, so that they can become people who are not only intellectually intelligent but also spiritually strong.

This article aims to offer management strategy of Islamic Human Resources (IHR) in the Islamic fashion industry environment. This research is library research, with data collection techniques using books, journals, and other publications. This study uses a qualitative approach that produces descriptive data in the form of words about IHR management in the Islamic fashion industry. The collected data are then analyzed, interpreted, and generalized. The results of the study indicate that IHR development not only emphasizes intellectual and emotional development, but also involves spiritual and moral development. The presence of a truly Islamic IHR can reduce or eliminate the risk of sharia compliance in the Islamic fashion industry environment. The operationalization of IHR Islamization can be carried out through several stages, namely sharia recruitment and sharia selection. Sharia selection tools that can be used include sharia curriculum vitae (CV) analysis, sharia test, sharia interview, sharia recommendation and sharia psychological test. Everyone who works in the Islamic fashion industry needs to be Islamized through the stages of sharia recruitment and selection. It is hoped that the IHR development stages will give birth to tazkiyah or inner purification which will color all activities in the Islamic fashion industry.

“Life values and death” - a qualitative study on spiritual concepts and understandings of young children in Denmark

ABSTRACT In secular societies, the adults’ vocabulary for talking with children about spiritual topics is limited. This negatively affects Danish children’s spiritual development as well as hinder spiritual care and conversations with adults. This study explores the spiritual understandings, needs, and language of Danish children by means of focus group interviews with 6–9-year-old children in elementary schools. Results suggest that Danish children exhibit spiritual thoughts and emotions despite being embedded in a secular culture. The children interact and relate to dilemmas and life values with a spiritual language which they acquire through narratives and dialogue. Conversations with adults seem to be central to setting the spiritual development in motion. In a secular Danish school context, adults should support children’s spiritual development with a pedagogical didactic where spirituality is taught from the perspective of or with the child and use spiritual stories to facilitate dialogues about these.

Older Chinese adults’ social participation and happiness: the mediating effect of spirituality

ABSTRACT This quantitative study explored the relationship between social participation and happiness among older adults in a Chinese context by introducing the mediator of spirituality. The Howden Spirituality Assessment Scale (SAS), the Memorial University of Newfoundland Scale of Happiness (MUNSH), and the Frequency of Social Participation Scale, which was developed specifically for this study, were used to measure older participants’ spirituality, happiness, and social participation. Data were collected from a sample of 658 older participants located in sixteen cities across nine provinces in China and were subsequently analysed via structural equation modelling. Three main conclusions were obtained. First, Chinese older adults’ frequency of social participation was low, their level of spirituality was high, and their sense of happiness was fair. Second, older Chinese adults’ social participation, spirituality, and happiness were positively correlated with each other. Third, older Chinese adults’ spirituality fully mediated the relationship between social participation and happiness. Our data suggest that, first, it is fundamentally necessary to promote social participation among older adults with the aim of improving their happiness; second, older adults’ need for spiritual development and spiritual growth should be viewed as the core goal of the design of social activities; third, spiritual education should be included in the focus on older adult education.

EDUCATIONAL AND CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES OF IOANN MAXIMOVICH 1697-1711: CHERNIHIV PERIOD

The life and activities of Ioann Maxymovych (1651-1715), a prominent church figure and writer, have repeatedly attracted the attention of researchers. A significant number of investigations are dedicated to his biography and creative works. Almost his entire life was associated with Ukraine. Ioann Maxymovych – educator, church figure, missionary, spiritual writer, Archbishop of Chernihiv and Novgorod-Siversky, Metropolitan of Tobolsk, belongs to the ranks of saints, enlightener of the peoples of Siberia, founder of the first higher education institution on the Left-Bank of Ukraine – Chernihiv Collegium. The article considers the period of life of Ioann Maximovich from 1697-1711, which falls on the time of his active work at the Chernihiv department. The importance of his own efforts in promoting the development of education and enlightenment was emphasized: the establishment of the Chernigov Collegium; literary and translation activities; funding and maintenance of the library and diocesan typography, etc. The article analyzes the rich experience of educational and charitable activities of Ioann Maksimovich in supporting the formation of the Chernihiv diocese, its spiritual and cultural development at the beginning of the 18th century.

Examining the effects of anxiety and education level on mental health: The role of spiritual intelligence as an intervening variable in post COVID-19 patients in Indonesia

Background The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly affected global health systems and daily life, exacerbating vulnerabilities, particularly in Indonesia. This study investigates the impact of anxiety and education level on mental health, with spiritual intelligence as an intervening variable among post-COVID-19 patients in Indonesia. Methods A cross-sectional design was employed, analyzing data from 390 post-COVID-19 patients in Indonesia. Structured questionnaires were used to assess anxiety, education level, spiritual intelligence, and mental health. Results The findings indicate that anxiety significantly affects both spiritual intelligence and mental health, with spiritual intelligence acting as a mediating factor. Additionally, higher educational attainment is positively associated with enhanced spiritual intelligence and improved mental health outcomes. Conclusions The study underscores the importance of incorporating spiritual development practices into mental health interventions and educational programs to boost resilience and overall well-being in the post-pandemic era. These practices can help mitigate the adverse effects of anxiety and educational disparities on mental health.

The research involves an extensive analysis of the Avesta, examining its guidance on marriage, family relationships, and the upbringing of future generations. The study emphasizes the cultural, moral, and ethical principles outlined in the scriptures, highlighting their significance in fostering a virtuous and cohesive community. The Avesta underscores the importance of the family as the primary environment for moral and spiritual development, emphasizing three core principles: Good Thought (Humata), Good Word (Hukhta), and Good Deed (Hvarshta). The text details the roles and responsibilities within the family, advocating for the preservation of purity, moral integrity, and the promotion of a healthy and prosperous generation. The research finds that the Avesta provides a comprehensive framework for family dynamics, including marriage rituals, ethical standards, and the upbringing of children. The principles outlined in the Avesta are shown to be relevant even in contemporary discussions about family well-being and marital ethics. The study concludes that the teachings of the Avesta offer valuable insights into the foundational role of family in cultivating moral and spiritual growth. The principles of Good Thought, Good Word, and Good Deed remain central to fostering a virtuous and cohesive society. The Avesta's guidance on family values continues to hold significant relevance in modern times, providing a timeless framework for understanding and enhancing family dynamics and social cohesion.

Religiosity and Spirituality Development: An Accelerated Longitudinal Design.

The central aim of the present study was to model developmental trends in communal and independent religious practices, spirituality, positive and negative religious/spiritual coping, as well as their confluence, across ages 45-80. Participants derived from the Notre Dame Study of Health & Well-being (NDHWB), a longitudinal study spanning 10 years in an age-heterogeneous sample. Using 2-level multilevel models, we estimated no change, linear change, quadratic change, and cubic change functions across ages 45-80 in each construct. Cohort differences were also tested. Communal and independent practices, spirituality, negative religious/spiritual coping, as well as composite religiosity/spirituality, followed cubic trajectories across mid- to later life. Communal religious practices peaked twice: once at 45 and again around age 70. Independent practices, in contrast, peaked at age 45 and then declined in a stage-like manner until age 80. Spirituality reached its nadir around age 50 and peaked in the early 70s; the reverse was true for negative religious/spiritual coping. The change trajectory in composite religiosity/spirituality most resembled that of independent religious practices. Finally, positive religious/spiritual coping followed a linear trajectory, but a cohort difference precluded its interpretation as developmental change. Individuals appear to engage with their faith in different ways as they age, meaning extant conclusions about age-related differences and change in global religiosity/spirituality may be distorted.

The need to study student reading practices in the information society is due to a number of new phenomena of socio-cultural life. The structure and content of the reading has a significant impact on the professional and spiritual development of modern humanities students. The purpose of the study is to assess the level of influence of the structure and content of reading on the professional and spiritual development of modern students in the process of their education at a regional humanitarian university. The survey of students in grades 1–5 was carried out in the “Google Forms” environment, data processing using SPSS. Frequency analysis method and regression analysis were used in this work. As a result of regression analysis, analytical dependences of changes in the main characteristics of reading practices during the entire period of study in the real educational environment of a regional humanitarian university were obtained. The most popular in the student environment literary genres, attitudes to reading both fiction and professional literature, as well as models of the dynamics of reading practices of students, which form the basis for the development of social technologies to manage the reading process.

The spiritual values significantly shape their character and morality, emphasizing the importance of understanding and implementing these values in daily life. In conclusion, Surotul Waqi’ah provides substantial wisdom for Putuk Rejo adolescents, influencing their spiritual development in education, morals, and religiosity.
