IT capability and innovation

We propose that information technology (IT) capability promotes innovation performance by facilitating knowledge-intensive assets. We use firms listed on InformationWeek 500 as a measure of IT capability, finding that IT capability positively impacts firm innovation. We further determine that IT capability is important in innovation, indicating that firms may facilitate knowledge assets by advancing networks and sharing information efficiently. Furthermore, the relationship between IT capability and firm innovation is more pronounced for firms with more intense competition because innovation is more critical in competitive high-tech industries. By fostering knowledge sharing, our study can provide a more nuanced understanding of IT's role in impacting firm innovation in an increasingly complex environment. This study contributes to the literature on innovation and the economic consequences of IT capability.

The role of information technology in STEM education

The ubiquity of IT (Information technology) for teaching at large is a reality that can be observed, including STEM education, which is the field of study of this research. In view of this situation, this work is intended to determine the role of IT in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education. It was decided to conduct a systematic review based on PRISMA model and adding information obtained from the analysis of fugitive literature. The literature review was carried out on a total of 16 articles. The main inclusion criteria were a temporal selection from 2015 to March 2023, the inclusion of the terms IT and STEM in the title, abstract or keywords of the articles. The main results show an increasing tendency of this topic, especially in English research. Most relevant conclusions of the systematic review evidence a positive relationship between IT and STEM education, although some negative aspects are also highlighted as there is still a lack of resources and teacher training, leading to ineffective application of IT in STEM classes. The research results have important practical implications, it motivates teachers to research, propose and implement measures to enhance the role of IT in STEM education, while minimizing the limitations that have been identified.

The governance of information technology (IT) is crucial for companies in managing their IT assets. This research investigates the implementation of COBIT 2019 at PT. Pelindo TPK Bitung, a logistics and storage company, aiming to enhance its Information Technology (IT) governance. Facing challenges in IT management, the company adopted COBIT 2019 to improve operational efficiency, reduce security risks, and ensure regulatory compliance. The study employs a structured approach, utilizing the COBIT 2019 Design Toolkit, and includes a literature review, interviews, and systematic evaluations of PT. Pelindo TPK Bitung's IT governance. Findings from the first interview highlight the company's focus on growth, innovation, and strategic IT roles, alongside challenges in integrating IT and operations. The prioritized governance objective, DSS05 - Managed Security Services, achieves a capability level 3, indicating substantial success, though gaps in security aspects necessitate prompt policy reviews. In conclusion, PT. Pelindo TPK Bitung's COBIT 2019 implementation has achieved significant success, reaching a capability level 3, with suggestions provided for sustaining and enhancing security management. This research contributes insights into COBIT 2019 implementation, offering a comprehensive understanding of its impact on IT governance in a specific organizational context

The article describes the possibilities of using information technology (IT) to ensure patient safety. The role of IT is examined in three aspects of patient safety: creating a safe health care environment, safely delivering health care, and assessing patient safety. Purpose of the study is to explore the current state of information technology and environmental factors in the field of clinical safety. Materials and methods. Analyze the current capabilities of using information technology to ensure patient safety in three aspects: creating a safe environment for the provision of medical care, safe delivery of medical care and assessing patient safety. Based on the results of the analysis, determine the problems and prospects of information technologies in the field of clinical safety. Results. One of the components of a safe medical care environment is a patient’s personal account. Research examining the impact of patient privacy on health care safety is an important and promising area for future research. It is stated that today without IT it is impossible to create safe conditions for the provision of medical care. Based on the results of the analysis of the problem of the relevance of medical knowledge, the need for a transition to medical ecosystems is stated for a comprehensive solution to patient safety problems, including in relation to the use of DSS in medicine. Approaches to solving IT problems in the field of clinical safety are proposed, which are to optimally integrate compliance functions of multiple requirements and clinical data coming from different sources into complex medical technological processes, ensuring maximum patient safety with minimal complication of these processes. The assessment of compliance (certification) with safety standards is described as one of the ways to confirm the compliance of the results of activities with the requirements of not only quality, but also safety for the patient. Findings. There is a need to intensify research on the impact of health IT on patient safety, with particular attention to improving methods for identifying side effects and assessing patient safety, clinical decision support systems, adequate representation of biomedical knowledge, patient personal accounts, ecosystem solutions and support for continuity of care using IT, and also to the use of informatization criteria in the development and improvement of standards for the quality and safety of medical care.

How does information technology affect individuals’ health behavior in a pandemic? Insights from mobile health application use during COVID-19

The COVID-19 crisis has affected human mental health and health behavior. This was not the first pandemic in the world and will not be the last. Pandemics affect health behavior regarding prevention, avoidance, and management of illness. This study applies literature from Information Systems (IS) success, pandemic behavior, unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), and mobile technology identity (MTI) to investigate the effects of information technology (IT) attributes on health behavior during a pandemic. It is based on data from 232 patients of Arabic ethnic origin who visited a primary care clinic in Shefar'am. Results, based on structural equation modeling, indicate that perceived usefulness of mobile technology increases satisfaction with health reporting. Moreover, anxiety increases disclosure effort in using mobile technology, both directly and through a path mediated by MTI. Finally, disclosure effort reduces change in health behavior and satisfaction with self-reporting. Previous studies on health behavior during a pandemic and the role of IT in health behavior do not consider the role of IT in people's heath behavior, such as how IT can enable them to more frequently check their health during the pandemic. This study contributes to the literature by addressing this gap and providing insights into the role of IT in health behavior change during a pandemic. It also offers insights for clinics regarding the usefulness of mobile health (m-health) applications for patients so that they can to help patients change their health behavior towards using these applications.

Approaches to improve management of patients with multiple chronic non-communicable diseases (literature review)

A large fraction of adult patients has two or more chronic diseases (multiple chronic diseases, MCD). There are often questions about the quality and availability of medical care for patients with MCD, which could drastically be improved using information technologies (IT). 
 The purpose of this work was to study medical care management for MCD patients abroad using IT. 
 This study was carried out by searching the Google system and PubMed. 
 MCD patients are characterized by a high heterogeneity. Effective processing of the flow of medical information (electronic patient registers, digital medical records, scientific knowledge, etc.) is usually feasible with the help of artificial intelligence technologies and supercomputers. To improve health care delivery to adult MCD patients there are described three dimensions for the IT development including 1) development the algorithms to support clinical decision making; 2) coordination of medical care delivery; and 3) attainment of patient self-management. 
 The presented results confirm the important role of IT in medical care. The number of scientific reports devoted to this issue is growing. The use of IT in medicine demonstrates the promise of the principles of automated analysis and the provision of additional information directly at the point of care delivery. This can improve medical processes and, to some extent, clinical outcomes, including indicators of patients’ quality of life.
 Conclusion. Additional studies based on data from real-life clinical settings are required to make 
 a comprehensive assessment of the areas of IT applicability.

Empowering Women through IT: The Role of the IT Sector in Bangladesh

This observational-review article aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of the Information Technology (IT) sector in empowering women in Bangladesh. The study synthesizes existing literature and secondary data to analyze the historical and current societal status of women in the country, with a specific focus on the IT sector. It explores how the IT sector has contributed to elevating women's social and economic status and identifies the challenges and barriers that women face in this domain. The article also offers policy recommendations at both the national and individual levels to further enhance the role of IT in women's empowerment. These recommendations include policy-level interventions, skill development programs, and awareness campaigns, among others. By addressing these key points, this study aims to contribute to the growing body of literature on women's empowerment in Bangladesh and offer actionable insights for policymakers, industry leaders, and individuals. Implementation of Enterprise Architecture with Leadership Moderation Effects as a Performance Model for Regency/City Local Government Agencies in West Java Province

Purpose: The role of information technology in government agencies is becoming increasingly vital. Information Technology (IT) is positioned as an enabler, driver, and even transformer that plays a significant role in creating an organization's competitive advantage. In Government Agencies in the Republic of Indonesia, the application of SPBE (Electronic Based Government System) further legitimizes the vital role of information technology in the operations of Government Agencies in achieving organizational goals and objectives. One of the main activities in SPBE is the implementation of enterprise architecture (EA) in government agencies called the SPBE architecture. The EA implementation based on various studies conducted can positively contribute to encouraging the role of IT in achieving organizational performance. Research implications: Based on the implementation of the SPBE evaluation since 2018, there have been several improvements in the implementation of the SPBE in Government Agencies, both in terms of policy, governance, management, and IT services. The SPBE maturity index for government agencies generally increases from year to year. Government Agencies have generally started EA implementation or SPBE. However, no research can show whether it is true that EA Implementation in Local Government Agencies in the Republic of Indonesia can contribute to achieving organizational performance that represents increasing achievement of organizational goals and objectives. Method: This research was conducted at all district/city government agencies within the province of West Java. This study tries to test the hypothesis of how the implementation of EA in district/city local government agencies in West Java Province represented by EA capabilities and EA governance can contribute to improving organizational performance through organizational agility. In the relationship between EA capability and governance and organizational agility, the hypothesis testing of the leadership moderation variable is tested, whether it is true that leadership can contribute to achieving organizational agility in implementing EA. Results and conclusion: Data processing uses quantitative analysis with descriptive statistics and verification analysis using SEM. From the research, EA capability and EA governance contribute to organizational performance improvement through organizational agility. Leadership provides a positive moderating effect on the relationship between EA capability and EA governance on organizational agility.

Information Technology in Audit Processes. An Evidence from Small Audit Firms in Gombe Metropolis

The use of Information Technology (IT) is becoming increasingly popular in business. The role of IT now hold ace in contemporary business around the world. From sole proprietorship to the desk of the corporate executive IT has completely taken the place or satisfactorily complimented manual data processing. The rapid changes and application of technology have motivated accounting firms to invest in technology to ensure that they are up to date with the current technology. In accounting, technology is broadly used in recording, bookkeeping, generating financial reports, auditing and designing a better costing system for an organization. This study evaluates the determinants of technology adoption among small audit firms in Gombe metropolis. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design and the primary means of data collection was questionnaire administered on audit firms. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were used to analyse the data. The findings showed among others that individual intentions significantly influence the adoption of technology in small audit firms. The study recommended that principal audit partners should increase their commitment and readiness to provide trainings as well as infrastructure for audit technology adoption by their firms.

Evolution of Views on the Socio-Economic Role of Information Technology – the Example of the 60-Year History of Central Economics and Mathematics Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences

The history of the information technology (IT) development at CEMI RAS and the rethinking of the IT role and associated expectations that has occurred over 60 years in this organization can be an illustration of the evolution of views in the scientific community regarding the socio-economic potential of IT. Over the years of its research work, CEMI RAS worked out the most effective way to use almost all major modifications of computers in scientific research, and also carried out the work related to the development of information and communication technologies, including the Internet. Gradually, views on the IT role as a tool for scientific research evolved into an understanding of the complex impact of IT on socio-economic processes, which has the form of widespread digitalization of socio-economic activities. Under these conditions, one of the key IT-related areas of research and development is the creation of a concept for digitalization of coordination mechanisms, the improvement of which affects the entire socio-economic system. The proposed study briefly presents the main milestones in the use and development of IT over the 60 years of CEMI existence and substantiates a qualitatively new task of using and developing IT to improve methods for coordinating scientific research. The rationale for this task is presented using the example of research activities, but the overall long-term goal of these studies is to develop the concept of digital infrastructure and corresponding institutional structures that will ensure better coordination and act as catalyst for the country's development in all major areas of economic activity.

Service Transformation as a Tool for Promoting Sustainable Rural Development in Central Java

The current developments in Information Technology (IT) should not only be utilized by the public and the private sectors but also by all parties effectively. The government must also be able to take advantage of these advances in many ways, such as in providing government services. The role of IT in managing government has now become an essential part of the society. This study examines the people's expectations in Melikan Village and focuses on using IT advances to create an independent village. The author then draws upon SDG theories to delineate the service transformation process. It is a qualitative study consisting of primary and secondary data. The data collection techniques used in this study include in-depth interviews, FGD, observations, and document analysis. The findings show that IT has become a vital need for the people in Melikan, but the village government fails to meet those expectations. The study suggests that the local government needs technological innovation to develop Melikan Village and add more personnel to help with government services.

Measuring human IT agility and firms' digitalization using POSET: evidence from Italy

PurposeThe aim of this study is to provide a detailed picture of the digitalization propensity and human IT agility of Italian SMEs, verifying whether companies are pursuing coherent and reliable choices for these dimensions and whether digitalization choices affect human IT agility.Design/methodology/approachUsing a POSET approach, this study constructs two nonaggregative multidimensional indicators of human information technology (IT) agility and firms' digitalization. The analysis is based on the microdata provided by ISTAT relating to 4,682 Italian manufacturing companies.FindingsThe results show the existence of a strong relationship between digitalization propensity and human IT agility. However, the analysis shows that companies are characterized by a low level of digitalization propensity and human IT agility. At the same time, the findings highlighted that the managerial choices adopted by companies appear to be inconsistent with respect to the two multidimensional indicators.Practical implicationsThis study has important implications for managers and policymakers by suggesting acting specific policies to promote a better implementation of digitalization that considers the key role of human IT agility.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the existing literature on organizational agility and digitalization by providing a detailed picture of the Italian manufactured SMEs. At the same time, the POSET approach allows to aggregate a lot of information in one or more indicators without neglecting the value of each dimension faced with the extreme heterogeneity of companies' profiles.

 As IT professionals, educators, and organizations strive to understand and develop the skills necessary to succeed in the industry, the proposed model serves as a valuable resource. Furthermore, our findings contribute to the ongoing discourse regarding the future of work in IT, providing insights into the evolving nature of skills and roles, as well as the critical connections that drive innovation and progress.

Hidden Gold for IT Professionals, Educators, and Students: Insights From Stack Overflow Survey

It is undeniable that technological advancements have taken significant changes in the nature of work, resulting in the loss of many jobs and the emergence of new ones. As a result, information technology (IT) job seekers and professionals must be aware of changes required in their respective fields. This study identified and ranked the most-used technologies, such as programming languages, databases, operating systems (OSs), and collaborative tools, specific to twenty-three (23) different IT roles. Furthermore, this study advocates that individuals focus on critical skills required in various domains to achieve career success. Similarly, individuals with a set of valued technical skills may decide whether to change jobs or roles if they are interested in a position that requires their current competence. The findings of this study can be helpful to career counselors, instructors, students, professionals, recruiters, curriculum designers, and decision-makers.
