Phraseology as a base gender stereotypes (on the material of the english language)

The article is devoted to the problem of gender stereotypes on the material of English phraseology. The author has analyzed phraseological fund as the main source for forming personal worldview, which revealed via language. Phraseology has been declared both as the basis for forming mental, behavior and cultural intentions of person and as the instrument for making stereotypes (particularly, concerning rela￾tionships between man and woman). The article presents a study on the formation of some of the gender stereotypes reflected in one of the most components that make up the culture of the people – proverbs and idioms. These phraseological units give the initial idea of the concepts such as: appearance, social status, intelligence, age, etc. The conclusions based on these concepts form the idea of how society should treat gender images of femininity and masculinity.Phraseology is a branch of lexicology that stud￾ies sequence of words that are semantically and often syntactically restricted and they function as sin￾gle units similar to individual words. Phraseology received increasing attention in the English-speaking world. Linguistic competence also includes a familiarity with restricted collocations and proverbs as well as the ability to produce or understand metaphorical interpretations.Phraseological units absorb values of the ages in which it lives. The problem of understanding the meaning of a phraseological unit is linked with a possibility of increasing our knowledge about the world diachronically.

The category of linguistic negation occupies a special place among the numerous language catego￾ries. Expressing the definite category of the logic completely the investigation of the mutual relation￾ship of the mentality and the objective reality with the language, investigating the language tools in the structural-semantic and communicative-pragmatic plan and also requires the comparative study on the basis of material of the different systematic languages and that is why this problem is one of the impor￾tant issues of linguistics. Though the category of negation has been extensively studied in linguistics, this problem is still urgent today according to the modern linguistic theories. Therefore, the comparative study of negation on the basis of materials of the different systematic languages is very important. The investigation of the category of negation is an actual problem of modern linguistics. The main function of this category is to increase the effectiveness of the speech communication. The main problem of the category of negation is the correct usage of forms of this category. The English language learners often meet this problem, because the main thing is to find correctly negative forms in the study texts. The lan￾guage learners need also to be able to formulate sentences in the category of negation and at the same time take into consideration the grammatical and lexical features of the studied language, i.e. the English language. The pragmatic factor is also investigated in this process. The elements of negation in the negation category are realized within the complex semantic and functional-pragmatic conditions. It is necessary to express fully the category of logic that corresponds to it and to investigate the structural-semantic and communicative-pragmatic means of language. In the article it will be said about the working principles of the category of negation of the English language and the negation category in Azerbaijani and English will be shown comparatively.

Electrochemically imprinted self-doped polyaniline as highly sensitive voltammetric sensor for determination of bismuth in water, wastewater, and pharmaceutical samples

A novel electrochemically imprinted self-doped polyaniline (SDPAn) film-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for bismuth ion (Bi3+) determination was prepared here based on copolymerization of polyaniline with metanilic acid, GCE/P(An-co-MA). Firstly, prepared SDPAn was characterized by using solid-state UV–visible, SEM, and EDXA techniques. Then, the GCE/P(An-co-MA) electrode was templated by several consecutive reduction/oxidation potential steps in Bi3+ solution for improving its selectivity to Bi3+ ions. Affecting parameters on detection signal like MA concentration, pH, and time in polymerization step and preconcentration potential and incubation pH in preconcentration step have been optimized by means of experimental design. The differential pulse anodic striping voltammetric signal of the GCE/P(An-co-MA) in optimized conditions was recorded and a linear relation ship from 1.0 × 10−9 to 1.0 × 10−4 M of Bi3+, R2 as 0.9960, with detection limit as 0.48 nM Bi3+, and RSD as 1.49% was obtained. This sensor was successfully applied for voltammetric determination of Bi3+ ions in water, wastewater, and pharmaceutical samples.

57 Cool Running Water First Aid Decreases Skin Grafting Requirements in Pediatric Burns: A Cohort Study of 2495 Children

Abstract Introduction First-aid guidelines recommend the administration of cool running water in the early management of thermal injury. Our objective was to analyze the associations between first aid and skin grafting requirements in children with burns. Methods This cohort study utilized a prospectively collected registry of patients managed at a tertiary children’s hospital. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to evaluate the relation ship between first aid and the requirement for skin grafting. Secondary outcomes included time to re-epithelialization, wound depth, hospital admission and length of stay, and theater interventions. Adequate first aid was defined as 20 minutes of cool running water within three hours of injury. Results In our cohort of 2495 children, 2259 (90.6%) received first aid involving running water, but only 1780 (71.3%) were given the adequate duration. A total of 236 (9.5%) children required grafting. The odds of grafting were decreased in the adequate first aid group (OR 0.6, 95% CI 0.4 to 0.8). The provision of adequate running water was further associated with reductions in the full-thickness depth (OR 0.4, 95% CI 0.2 to 0.6), hospital admission (OR 0.7, 95% CI 0.5 to 0.9) and theater operations (OR 0.7, 95% CI 0.5 to 0.9), but not hospital length of stay (HR=0.9, 95% CI 0.7 to 1.2, p=0.48). Conclusions Burn severity and clinical outcomes improved with the administration of cool running water. Adequate first aid must be prioritized by pre-hospital and emergency services in the preliminary management of pediatric burns. Applicability of Research to Practice Although children are at particularly high risk of burn injuries there was a paucity of literature addressing the relationship between burn first aid and clinical outcomes in pediatric populations. Due to differences in volume, surface area and skin thickness it was unknown whether benefits in adults applied to children. This study supports the prioritization of the administration of cool running water for 20 minutes to be adhered to immediately after a pediatric burn to decrease the severity and improve patient outcomes.

Enhanced specificity due to method specific limits for relative ion intensities in a high-performance liquid chromatography – tandem mass spectrometry method for iohexol in human serum

Background Accurate assessment of kidney function is needed for a variety of clinical indications and for research. The measurement of the serum clearance of iohexol has emerged as a feasible method to reach this objective. We report the analytical validation and clinical application of a new high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) - tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) assay to quantify iohexol in human serum. Specificity was enhanced due to the use of method specific acceptance limits for relative ion (RI) intensities. Methods The internal standard ioversol was added to 50 μL serum prior to protein precipitation with methanol. Linear gradient elution was performed on a Waters Oasis® HLB column. Three transitions for both iohexol and ioversol were monitored allowing calculation of RIs. Measurements acquired during method validation were used as a training set to establish stricter acceptance criteria for RIs which were then tested retrospectively on clinical routine measurements (86 measurements) and on mathematically simulated interferences. Results The method was linear between 5.0 μg/mL (lower limit of quantification [LLOQ]) and 100.3 μg/mL iohexol. Intraday and interday imprecision were ≤2.6% and ≤3.2%, respectively. Bias was -1.6% to 1.5%. All validation criteria were met, including selectivity, recovery, extraction efficiency and matrix effects. Retrospectively acceptance limits for RIs could be narrowed to ±4 relative standard deviations of the corresponding RIs in the training set. The new limits resulted in an enhanced sensitivity for the simulated interferences. Conclusions Criteria for validation were met and the assay is now used in our clinical routine diagnostics and in research.

Transportation in United Arab Emirates (UAE) have contributed largely to economic output, import, and export in the manufacturing sector, creating employment opportunities in service sectors and expanding the export base. They are playing a role of key service providers and vendors to many big corporations. The significance of the contributions of project management process in Road and Transportation internationally and encourages more development initiative to support road and transportation from Middle Eastern region and United Arab Emirates (UAE). This study investigates the project management process, technological orientation and organizational performance of Infrastructure in United Arab Emirates (UAE). The size of the sample is designed with a view to establish the internal and external validity in order to generalize the findings to the population. As the study used Structural Equation Modelling, a higher sample above 400 was considered. A total of 436 responses were considered for the final analysis of the study.

Lo que nos plantea Kenneth Waltz ilumina el desarrollo del presente trabajo. Chile y Perú, países vecinos que luchan por alcanzar el desarrollo, sin duda poseen intereses complementarios y un futuro estrechamente vinculado, en especial en la lógica que impera hoy en las relaciones internacionales –descrita ya hace 40 años por Keohane y Nye, pero aún vigente– conocida como la interdependencia compleja. La hipótesis que sustenta este trabajo es que la planificación estratégica de un país es un instrumento que no solo permitiría hacer más eficientes sus esfuerzos para la consecución de los objetivos nacionales, sino también influiría positivamente en las relaciones de este con sus vecinos, al reducir la incertidumbre y, en consecuencia, minimizar la inseguridad que –como lo plantea Waltz– opera en contra de la voluntad de cooperar. Para los efectos, inicialmente se abordará el concepto de planificación estratégica, en cuanto a sus alcances, propósitos y aspectos generales. Posteriormente, se efectuará una revisión de la relación histórica y actual entre ambos países, para finalizar con algunas conclusiones y reflexiones.

Morphometric Measurements of the Maxillary Sinus Based on Cone Beam Computed Tomography in a Selected Kenyan Population

Objective : To assess the maxillary antrum (sinus) volume, dimensions, and to establish the sinus floor relation ship to posterior maxillary teeth roots and the prevalence of septation using Cone beam Computed Tomogram (CBCT) scans in a selected Kenyan population. Study design: A descriptive, cross-sectional retrospective study. Study Area : The study was carried out in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, a cosmopolitan city that has the largest referral hospital in Kenya. Study material: Cone beam Computed Tomogram (CBCT) scans of the midface region obtained with permission from a private maxillofacial imaging centre in Nairobi. The study population was determined using convenient sampling method, obtaining 55 scans of the Maxillary sinus. Results: Fifty-five scans were analyzed with 20(36.4%) belonging to males and 35(63.6%) being scans of females. The mean septum height was 4.5mm±1.9mm and the mean exostosis height was 4.2mm±2.2mm. The closest root apex to the antral floor was the mesiobuccal root apex of the second permanent molar: 2.2mm±1.5mm. There was a statistically significant difference between gender and the anteroposterior dimension of the sinusp=0.02, The mean sinus volume was larger in males, 13980.4±5024.4mm 3 (13.9ml±5.0ml) than in females, 10,885±3305.6 mm 3 (10.8ml±3.3ml). The difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion : There is variation of the maxillary sinus size, within the same individual and among different individuals, thereby emphasizing the need for a complete imaging in treatment planning in the para-antral region. Due to the increased use of implants in dentistry, CBCT imaging as part of the diagnostic pre-implant workup and sinus analysis is crucial so as to avoid complications during surgery in the para-antral region

Prevalence and Risk factors leading to Vascular access failure among Hemo dialysis Patients (Suggested Nursing Guideline)

The aim of the study was to identify the prevalence and risk factors of vascular access failure among hemodialysis patients.Patients and method:A descriptive exploratory research design was utilized. This study was conducted in dial ysis unit at Assiut University Hospital. The study sample consisted of 200 consecutive adult patients attended to dialysis unit at Assiut University Hospital within a period of 6 months their age ranged from 20 to 65 with mean age (40.76±13.24) years.Tool s:Tool 1: A patients interview questioner sheet.Tools 2: Risk factors and causes of vascular access failure.Results:Incidence of vascular access failure among hemodialysis patients at Assuit University Hospital in over six month was (34.5%). Their age ranged from 40 -65 year. Aging, diabetes, obesity,and infection were the major risk factors for vascular access failure. Conclusion: There was statistical significant relation ship

Energy Management System in DC Micro-Grids of Smart Ships: Main Gen-Set Fuel Consumption Minimization and Fault Compensation

This paper proposes an energy management system (EMS) of the electrical system of a luxury ship (yacht). Starting from the analysis of the current configuration of the electric system, it proposes some solutions for its improvement, aiming at the reduction of the fuel consumption of the diesel engine (DE) driven permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG) and, therefore, at the reduction of the related ship polluting emissions. From the architectural side, a dc electrical distribution on-board has been adopted in place of the existing ac. Moreover, the dc micro-grid has been integrated with renewable energy sources (RES) based generators, as well as an energy storage system (ESS). From the management point of view, the proposed EMS governs the ship electric system in three working conditions: 1) regular operation; 2) DE driven PMSG fault/outage; 3) overload. During regular operation, the EMS implements the variable speed paradigm of the DE driven PMSGs on-board, permitting a reduction of the fuel consumption, and the related polluting emissions. In this phase, the ESS is exploited to minimize the speed and power transients of the DE. In case of a fault of one of the DE driven PMSGs, the ESS compensates the power missing for the entire duration of the cold start up of the auxiliary generator. In case of big overload, the ESS provides the exceeding power with respect to the rated one, thus avoiding potential micro-grid instability problems. This paper proposes also a stability analysis of the entire on-board dc micro-grid.

Success of Sowing Methods Accompanying with Weed Control in Eliminating Weeds and Improved Quantity and Quality of Linseed (Linum Usitatissimum L.)

Relat ionship between sowing method, weed control and crop yield is a complex relationships. Hence, adopting satisfactory and most compatible and effective combination of weed control and sowing methods is a foundational element of sustainability and long-term profitability. The current study aimed to evaluate the effect of sowing methods of linseed plants (Linum usitatissimum L.) and some weed control treatment. Field experiments were conducted in 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 seasons and the study was laid out in a split plot design with four replications in RCBD. Treatments included two sowing methods (broadcast and drill) were allocated in the main plots and seven weed control viz., T1- Unweeded (check control), T2- Brominal 500cm3/fad was applied after three week from planting, T3- Granstar (6g/fad), T4- Fusilade supper (500cm3/fad), T5- Brominal (500cm3/fad) + Fusilade supper (500cm3/fad), T6- Granstar (6g/fad) + Fusilade supper (500cm3/fad) and T7- Hand weeding twice. Results indicated that significant differences among sowing methods in all traits. Broadcast method surpassed the all treatments and highest values in term of stem diameter whereas; drill methods recorded the highest values of the remaining characters. Drill methods recorded the highest values for the other characters. Concering weed control treatments, significant differences were observed among treatments. Treatment T1 recorded the highest values for Fiber percentage and lowest of straw yield/plant and seed yield. Treatment T4 recorded the greatest values for Technical length, stem diameter, seed index and fiber yield. Treatment T6 recorded the highestvalues for dry weight of linseed plant, plant height, straw yield/plant.
