The new GOST 34028–2016 “Reinforcing bars for concrete-steel construction” introduced new requirements to a number of operational characteristics of reinforcement, in particular, to ensure stability of plastic characteristics. It is possible to increase the plasticity of cold-deformed reinforcement made of low-carbon steel grades and to ensure its stability by changing the chemical composition of the steel or through deformation methods of action. To solve this problem, a method of hardening with a low degree of deformation, called Cold Stretching, is widely used abroad. Technical analysis of data from Russian manufacturers of reinforcing wire and rolled products using Cold Stretching technology has been carried out. The data on the processing of A400C class reinforcing steel with its use, as well as the results of mechanical tests of the reinforcement of the Sсhnell company, Italy, specializing in the production of lines for the production of reinforcing wire, both by the traditional method of pulling in roller stands and by a promising method tension-compression. The specialists of OJSC “MMK-Metiz” carried out two series of experimental works to simulate the Cold Stretching process using hot-rolled steel produced by PJSC MMK. In the first series of tensile tests, hotrolled thermomechanically hardened steel of class 500 was used. As a result of this series of experiments, a high increase in strength properties was established without a significant improvement in plastic properties. In the second series of experiments, in which hotrolled reinforcement of class 400 made of steel grade 18Г2С was used, higher strength and plastic properties were obtained, which confirms the expediency of using the Cold Stretching process in the production of reinforcing wire. The advantage of the Cold Stretching technology in comparison with the existing technology at OJSC “MMK-Metiz” was noted – the exclusion of the rolling operation with the application of a profile, which significantly reduces the cost of reinforcement and excludes some of the lengthy technological operations associated with the manufacture of rollers and assembly of stands.
