Time Management and Effective Teaching in Senior Public Secondary Schools in River State

The study investigated time management and effective teaching in senior public secondary schools in River State. The study adopted a correlational design. This study covered teachers in the public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. The population was 7,123 teachers. The study adopted the stratified random sampling technique to select teachers in each of the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State, giving a total of 177 teachers constituting 10% of the total population. About 8 teachers were chosen from each of the 23 LGAs in Rivers State. Out of 177 copies of questionnaires distributed, 150 representing 85% were duly completed and returned. The study used the returned copies for the analysis of the study. A questionnaire instrument used for data collection titled: “Time Management by Staff and Effective Teaching Questionnaire (EMTQ) was used for this study. The instrument was divided into two sections: section A and B. Section A contains demographic data of the respondents while Section B contains item statements in different clusters. Each cluster contained items addressing a research question. The instrument was coded with a modified 4-point Likert Scale of Very High Extent (VHE)= 4 Points, High Extent (HE) = 3 points, Low Extent (LE) = 2 points and Very Low Extent (VLE) = 1 point. The instrument was subjected to face and content validation by presenting the instrument to an expert in Measurement and Evaluation, at the Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained Crombach alpha and obtained .98>.71 which proved that the instrument was reliable. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation at mean benchmark of 2.5 while T-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 levels of significance. The findings of the study showed that there is a significant relationship between time management and teaching effectiveness. It showed that when teachers adopt prompt use of time in their job roles, that would lead to teaching effectiveness. It recommended among others that Management of public secondary schools in Rivers State should ensure that teaching activities are guided by the school timetable and Principals of public secondary schools in Rivers State should ensure effective and timely coverage of the curriculum or syllables.

Innovative Work Behavior of Principals and Organizational Effectiveness of Public Schools in Davao City

This study aimed to determine the influence of innovative work behavior of principals to organizational effectiveness. A total of 90 public school principals in Davao City division were identified as respondents through stratified random sampling. The study utilized a descriptive-correlational design. Two adapted survey questionnaires focusing on innovative work behavior and organizational effectiveness were utilized in gathering data. Mean, Pearson r, and regression analysis were used as statistical tools to derive the data. Results revealed that the level of innovative work behavior of principals in terms of opportunity exploration, idea generation, idea promotion, and idea realization was oftentimes evident in the school. Meanwhile, in terms of reflection, it was sometimes evident. Further, organizational effectiveness in terms of organizational health was sometimes evident. In terms of organizational climate, student career development, and ability to attract resources, this was oftentimes evident. Concurrently, administrative concern was sometimes evident. Moreover, it was revealed that there is a significant relationship between principals’ innovative work behavior and organizational effectiveness. Further, it was it was also found that principals' innovative work behavior had a significant influence on organizational effectiveness. In light of this, the study suggests that school administrators should improve their leadership skills as well as their problem-solving abilities by sustaining the best practices in the organization to consistently deliver efficient and effective services to clientele and tapping stakeholders to support the innovations made. More so, possible upgrade of the school facilities is also recommended.

The Relationship Of Organizational Culture And School Principal Leadership With Decision Making In State High Schools In Balige District

The aims of this research are to 1) analyze the relationship between organizational culture and decision making of school principals in public high schools in Balige District; 2) analyze the relationship between leadership and decision making of school principals in State High Schools in Balige District; and 3) analyze the relationship between organizational culture and leadership, together with the decision making of school principals in State High Schools in Balige District. The method used in this research is quantitative inferential. The population is all teachers in public high schools in Balige District, totaling 100 people and a sample of 50 people was determined using random sampling techniques. Data was collected using a closed questionnaire with 80 items. The results of data analysis show that: 1) the value of tcount > ttable (α=0.05; n-2=48) between organizational culture and decision making is 4.420 > 2.021, thus it is known that there is a relationship between organizational culture and decision making in state high schools throughout -Balige District; 2) the value of tcount > ttable (α=0.05; n-2=48) between school principal leadership and decision making is 3.547 > 2.021, thus it is known that the relationship between principal leadership and decision making in State High Schools throughout Balige District; 3) the value of Fcount > Ftable (k=2;n-2=48) between organizational culture and principal leadership and decision making is 12.706 > 3.23, thus it is known that there is a relationship between organizational culture and principal leadership simultaneously with decision making in public high schools in Balige District, thus Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected.

School Plant Management for Effective Teaching Delivery in Senior Secondary Schools in Rivers State

The study examined school plant management for effective teaching delivery in senior secondary schools in Rivers State. The study design was descriptive survey design while the population of the study comprised of 6,657 teacher and 302 principals in public senior secondary schools in River state. The sample consists of 823 respondents (principals and teacher) of government senior secondary schools which representing 12% of the entire population. Three research questions and three corresponding null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A self -structured questionnaire titled “School Plant management for effective teaching delivery questionnaire” with 22 items was used. The instrument was duly validated by two experts from measurement and evaluation and a reliability index of 0.84 was established. The findings of the study revealed typed of school plants in secondary schools, the respondents agreed that inadequate funding, lack of training, overcrowded class room e.t.c., are challenges of utilization school plant. Furthermore, the study revealed that the respondents agreed that all the items listed were the strategies for managing school plants. The study recommended amongst others that government and other stake holders of education should provide adequate school plants for efficiency and effectiveness in the system, stake holders of education should address the various challenges of utilizing school plants and that heads of schools, school personnel and students should be trained and be re-trained on the various strategies of managing school plants.

Strengthening The Character of Global Diversity Through Child-friendly School Programs by Utilizing 5S (Smile, Greetings, Greetings, Politeness, Courtesy) in the Regional Coordinator for Education, South Cilacap District

This study aims to analyze the strengthening of Global Diversity through the Child-friendly School Program utilizing the 5S culture (Smile, Greeting, Salutation, Politeness, Courtesy) at SD KorwilBiddik South Cilacap, and to describe the supporting and inhibiting factors of learning to strengthen Global Diversity through this program in the South CilacapBiddik Regional Council. Using a descriptive qualitative research approach, the study focuses on students, teachers, and elementary school principals in both public and private schools in the region, particularly on the implementation of child-friendly schools through the 5S culture to enhance the character of global diversity among students. The findings reveal that schools in the South CilacapBiddik Regional Council have effectively implemented child-friendly school policies and integrated the 5S program into daily school activities. The supporting factors include school policies, teachers, the school environment, parents, supportive subject matter, and adequate facilities and infrastructure. However, there are inhibiting factors such as inconsistencies among school residents in implementing the program, the diversity of student characteristics, and differing habits of students at school and at home. Despite these challenges, the 5S program has been well-implemented daily, fostering respectful and friendly behavior towards teachers and peers, thereby enhancing students' global diversity character.

LEADERSHIP CHALLENGES IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES: A CASE STUDY OF PAKISTANI HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOLS

The main objective of the research was to explore public school principals’ leadership problems and the techniques they used to overcome those problems. A qualitative research case study was conducted involving 10 public school principals (5 male and 5 female) from district Mardan of Pakistan. The data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the thematic analysis process. The results show that public school principals in Pakistan face multiple problems, including lack of authority, insufficient assistance from higher authorities, lack of resources, and teacher recruitment and retention issues. Additionally, the research also found that public school principals in Pakistan combat their problems with a variety of techniques, including creating a friendly rapport with teachers, engaging the community in the educational process, seeking help from higher authorities, and effectively leveraging resources. Moreover, this research has also examined Pakistani female public school principals’ problems and tactics. The results show that female public-school principals in Pakistan experience typical male principals’ problems, including lack of autonomy, insufficient resources, and support from higher authorities, as well as gender inequity. The results of the study have significant implications for policy and practice as the results of the study can inform specific policies and practices that can help in enlightening public schools’ leadership in Pakistan to improve the quality of education for students.

Examining Transcendent Leadership Practices: Perspectives of Public-School Principals in Amman as Perceived by Teachers

This research aimed to ascertain the extent of transcendental leadership implementation among public school principals in Amman. Employing a descriptive relational methodology, the study encompassed the entire cohort of male and female educators within Amman's public school system, totaling 1942 individuals. A representative sample comprising 20% of this population, 400 male and female educators, was randomly selected for participation. Subsequently, a comprehensive assessment tool was devised to gauge the prevalence of transcendental leadership practices. The findings of this study revealed a pronounced prevalence of transcendental leadership practices among public school principals in Amman, as perceived by teachers. Notably, all dimensions of the assessment tool manifested a high level of endorsement. Based on these outcomes, the study advocates for a heightened emphasis on facilitating self-evaluation among teachers by school principals in Amman. Furthermore, it underscores the imperative of innovating teaching methodologies to enhance organizational effectiveness within the educational domain. Institutional and Societal Challenges in the Utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Transformation of Senior Secondary Education in Rivers State

The study examined Institutional and Societal Challenges in the Utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for transformation of Senior Secondary Education in Rivers State. Three research questions and hypotheses guided the study. Descriptive survey design was adopted with a population of 6859 teachers and principals in public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. The sample of the study was 823 which represents 12% of the entire population. A 4-point Likert scale self-structured questionnaire titled Societal and Institutional Challenges to the Utilization of Information and Technology for Secondary Education Questionnaire (SICUICTQ) was used for the study. The instrument which was made up of 30 items had its face and the content validity determined by three experts from the Department of measurement and evaluations while the reliability of the instrument was estimated to be 0.89 using Cronbach alpha coefficient. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer all research questions while the z test was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level significance. A criterion mean of 2.50 was used as the cut-off mean. Any mean greater than 2.50 was regarded as high extent while mean less than 2.50 was low extent. Findings of the study revealed that the availability of ICT facilities in secondary schools was to a low extent, ICT utilization was to a low extent due to lack of training, funding and that funding challenges affect the utilization of ICT for secondary Education Transformation in Rivers State to a high extent. The study recommended amongst others that for the transformation of the secondary educational system, the government and stakeholders of secondary education should provide ICT facilities in schools as well as look into the challenges of utilizing ICT for enhanced utilization of ICT for secondary education transformation.

The Degree of Practicing of Organizational Optimism for the Public Basic School Principals in Jordan Based on the Theory of Leading with Joy and Happiness

This study aimed to identify the degree of practicing organizational optimism for the puplic basic school principals in Jordan based on the theory of leading with joy and happiness. The study was applied on a random sample consisting of (377) teachers, and used the descriptive survey methodology. For data gathering, a (37- item) questionnaire has been developed, consisted of (7) domains: (The Authentic behavior, humility, love others, optimism, having a vision, live in reality, team service) and reliability the validity of tool was affirmed. The results of the study showed that the degree of practicing of the organizational optimism for the public basic school principals was moderate, and all the domains were at moderate level. Also showed that there were no significant differences according to the variables: gender, years of experience, and educational qualification at the total degree, and for all domains.

The Degree of Availability of Leadership Skills among Public Secondary School Principals in yhe University District / the Capital Amman and its Relationship to the Degree of Improvement in Job Satisfaction

The study aimed to find out the degree of availability of leadership skills among public secondary school principals in improving the level of job jobsatisfaction among employecs. The descriptive correlational methodology was used. A questionnaire was used as atool of the study after ensuring its validity and reliability. The study sample consisted of (414) employees from both seses, in the public secondary schools / the University District for the academic year (2020/2021). They were drawn randomly by using stratified random sample method. The results showed that principals had good leadershipskills, and were in descending order as follows: technical, intellectual, human and administrative skills. As for job satisfaction, satisfaction with wages among secondary school employees was at a moderate degree, and satisfaction with the work environment, leadership and supervision style were at a good degree. There was a strong positive correlation between the leadership skills possessed by the principal and the degree of job satisfaction of employees. The most prominent recommendations were to design and implement training programs for leadership skills and enhance the practical aspects thereof- It also reconsidered the salary scale for teachers and the necessity of developing follow-up of institutional performance through the application of balanced performance (BSC).

The Availability Degree of Mindfulness among Arab Public School Principals and its Relationship with Teachers’ Organizational Loyalty within the Green Line

The study examined mindfulness availability degree among Arab public school principals and its relationship with teachers’ organizational loyalty. The survey descriptive correlational methodology was employed. The sample included (413) school principals and teachers selected using simple random sampling. Mindfulness of School Principals and Organizational Loyalty scales were employed after validity and reliability for both scales were obtained. The mindfulness availability degree among Arab public school principals within the Green Line was moderate. Teachers’ within the Green Line organizational loyalty was also moderate. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between mindfulness availability degree among Arab public school principals and teachers’ organizational loyalty. The study recommended the need for training programs for school principals to prepare them as leaders practicing mindfulness in mindful recognition and openness.

Relationship between Principals’ Competencies in Procurement and Performance of Financial Management Roles in Public Secondary Schools in Kajiado County, Kenya

This study investigated the relationship between principals’ procurement competencies and effective performance of financial management roles in public secondary schools in Kajiado County, Kenya. Various education stakeholders had complained about principal’s ineffective performance of procurement roles in public secondary schools in Kajiado County, Kenya as shown through the literature reviewed. Frederick Taylor’s Scientific Management theory guided the study. The study adopted correlational research design. Data collection from principals and bursars was through administration of questionnaires and an interview schedule for school auditors. The target and accessible population was all 160 public secondary school principals, their bursars and 3 school auditors. The study used multi-stage sampling technique to sample 115 public secondary school principals and bursars and all the 3 school auditors. Stratified simple random sampling was used to get proportionate sample from each data stratum. The findings indicated that there was a positive and statistically significant relationship between procurement competencies and principals’ performance of financial management roles (r=0.876**; p<0.01). The study concluded that some principals lacked the necessary procurement competencies to regularly carry out procurement risk management; ensure procurement rules are followed; carry out procurement contract management; enhance supply sustainability and continue use and re-use of vendors; improve supplier relationships; lead in identifying the best products in the market and in deploying technology in performance of procurement role. The study also concluded that some principals were not effective in timely preparation of procurement plans; in following laid down procurement rules and in regularly carrying out procurement risk management; in regularly managing procurement contracts; ensuring supply sustainability and in identifying the best products in the market. The study recommended training, mentoring and coaching of principals to improve their performance on the various identified procurement competency and skills gaps.

Assessing Teacher Competencies in Public Schools of Pakistan: A Pathway for Improving the Effectiveness of Professional Development Programs for Teachers

Professional development (PD) programs are considered as essential for improving the teacher quality and performance in schools. Despite introducing several PD programs, the teachers’ quality in the public schools is a matter of concern for Pakistan. It has become a challenge for policymakers and school leaders to design PD programs which can be effective for all teachers. PD programs in Pakistan normally undertakes a standard approach without considering the strengths and weaknesses of different groups of teachers which may not address the specific needs of these groups. There is a need of structuring PD programs to make these learning opportunities more effective for teachers. Therefore, the current study evaluates the teacher competencies of different groups of teachers in Pakistan’s public schools. For that purpose, the study first identifies three key themes of teacher competencies required in 21st century from extant review of recent literature. Interview guide then is designed based on these key teacher competencies to solicit information from seven principals of public schools. The public schools were selected using the criteria of size of school and principal working experience in that school. Structured interviews been used as a medium for collecting data from the principals. All interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. The deductive content analysis approach was used in analyzing the data. The analytical tool used for the coding of themes was the MAXQDA software. The results highlighted certain differences in teacher competencies varying from gender to age. Female teachers and teachers who are younger in general are found to have more competencies compared to male teachers and senior teachers. The results of this study offer vital information for planning and tailoring TPD programs for teachers. These specially designed learning opportunities can be more effective for the professional development of teachers and can foster teachers’ competence.

ROLE OF ENVIRONMENT & INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES IN PROMOTING ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

The study was conducted to examine the role of environment & instructional strategies in enhancing the English language skills i.e., reading, listening, writing and speaking skills among students in higher secondary schools in the Southern Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The population of this qualitative study constitutes both male and female principals of public sector higher secondary schools. A total of 32 principals, consisting of two males and two females from each district, were selected through convenient sampling technique for in-depth interviews. A semi-structured interview was conducted to explore effect of environment and instructional strategies that influence English language skills. The study reveals that environment is loud and overcrowded and outdated teaching methods are used in public sector schools. Study concludes that a supportive environment and relevant instructional strategies are vital to enhancing students' language skills. The study stresses the need to foster a culture of ongoing improvement in English books, ensuring sustained continuous professional development of teachers’ English language education. Interview results were abridged as narrative summary.

Effect of Secondary School Principals' Record-Keeping Practice on Administrative Effectiveness in Delta State, Nigeria

This study's goal was to examine the effects of principals' record-keeping procedures on the management of public secondary schools in Delta State, Nigeria. The research design used in this study was descriptive. 473 public high school principals from the Delta region participated in the survey. By using stratified random sampling, 150 principals (100 men and 50 women) were selected as a sample. Two research questions and two hypotheses served as the foundation for conducting this investigation. A self-structured instrument titled “Principals Recording Keeping Practices for Enhanced Administrative Efficiency Questionnaire” (PRKPEAEQ), is the name of the instrument. Two professionals validated the scale. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha, and the two groups' reliability indices were 0.81 and 0.85, respectively. Utilizing the direct application method, the researcher(s) collaborated with three research assistants to gather the data. The study questions were answered using the mean and standard deviation, and a chi-square probability table was employed to assess the null hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. The results demonstrate that school administrators are using computers and cloud storage as management tools to enhance the efficiency of Delta Public Secondary Schools. The Ministry of Education should advise school administrators to use computers and cloud storage, among other things, according to the conclusions.

Principals’ well-being: understanding its multidimensional nature

ABSTRACT While well-being of school principals is becoming an increasing concern in public education, the understanding of well-being and its manifestation is still lacking in research. This research tackles the nuances and complexities surrounding the notion of well-being and sheds light on its conceptualisation, manifestation, and contributing factors. Data for this research come from an online survey among public school principals in the province of British Columbia, Canada. This survey research utilised reliability, factor, correlation analysis, and structural equation modelling (SEM) and examined how well-being of school principals is manifested along different well-being dimensions and what underlying relationships exist between each dimension in relation to principals’ overall well-being and their demographics. The results reaffirm that well-being is a multidimensional construct, encompassing dimensions that speak to different but interrelated aspects of a principal’s well-being state, among which emotional and psychological well-being has been revealed as a vital component in principals’ overall well-being. The findings have significant implications on health and well-being related support for school principals in order to prepare them for the increasingly demanding job.

Administrative Wisdom of Public-School Principals and its Relationship with Perceived Self-Efficacy from the Point of View of Teachers in Al Batinah South Governorate in Sultanate of Oman

The present study aimed to identify the degree of practicing administrative wisdom among government-school principals and its relationship with perceived self-efficacy from the Point of View of teachers in Al Batinah South Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman. The study used a descriptive correlational approach to achieve its objectives. A questionnaire consisting of 56 statements was designed. It had two dimensions: administrative wisdom with 28 statements and perceived self-efficacy with 28 statements. After checking the validity and reliability of the questionnaire, it was distributed to a sample of 422 male and female teachers. The study showed that the degree of practicing administrative wisdom among government-school principals was high from the teachers’ perspective. The findings also showed that the level of perceived self-efficacy of government-school was high from their perspective. The study revealed a statistically significant and positive correlation between all the statements of the administrative wisdom scale and all the statements of the perceived self-efficacy scale of teachers in government schools in Al Batinah South Governorate in Sultanate of Oman. The level of the correlation ranged between low and moderate.
