Part 1: Enhanced Multidisciplinary Teams (E-MDT) by Dr. Elizabeth J. Santos, MD, MPHPart 2: The Geriatric Forensic Psychiatry Clinic by Dr. Brittany Mott MDPart 3: Innovation Opportunities for Legal Partnerships and Research by Corey Nichols-Hadeed, JDEnhanced Multidisciplinary Teams (E-MDT) are partnerships between public, profit, and non-profit organizations who collaborate to improve the process of identifying elder abuse and improving outcomes. The development of these programs to include capacity evaluations is an innovative advancement in addressing both the medical and legal needs of an older adult. Capacity evaluations can have important implications for the overall well-being of an older adult by increasing awareness of potential susceptibility to elder abuse and influencing decisions made about medical options and legal issues. Further, the innovation goes beyond providing important medical and legal advocacy by allowing research opportunities for evolution of the process, outcomes for patients, and development of best practices. Designing services with quality improvement and research activities in mind leads to better data to support positive outcomes for patients. This session will discuss the current structure of E-MDT, the development of the novel geriatric forensic capacity clinic, and the plans for rigorous research activities.
