Studies on pyrimidine derivatives. X. Coupling reaction of 5-halopyrimidines with olefinic compounds in the presence of palladium acetate and triphenylphosphine.

Ethyl 5-pyrimidineacrylates, 5-pyrimidineacrylonitriles, and 5-styrylpyrimidines with alkyl groups at the 2-and 4-positions were synthesized by means of the coupling reaction of 5-halopyrimidines with olefines in the presence of palladium phosphine complex. According to a similar manner, pyridines, quinolines, and isoquinolines with the same substituents at the β-positions were obtained in good yield.

The Direct Chlorination of Anthraquinone Oxime. The Regioselective Chlorination of Anthraquinone

Abstract The reaction of anthraquinone oxime with chlorine in the presence or absence of a catalyst was investigated. In concentrated sulfuric acid, the direct chlorination of anthraquinone oxime takes place easily at 100 °C. The chlorination occurs selectively in the β-position in the absence of a catalyst and in the α-position in the presence of palladium acetate.

Addition of benzene to α-substituted chalcones with palladium(II) acetate

Some α-substituted chalcones reacted with benzene and acetic acid in the presence of palladium acetate to give the benzene-adducts, 1,1-diphenyl-2-substituted-2-benzoylethanes, together with the usual phenylated compounds.

Arylation and Vinylation Reactions of Benzo[b]furan via Organopalladium Intermediates

Abstract The Heck reaction of benzo[b]furan with arylpalladium chloride leads to the formation of 2-arylbenzo[b]-furan derivatives. In the presence of palladium acetate, benzo[b]furan reacts in benzene to give 2,2′-bibenzo[b]furyl, accompanied by 2-arylbenzo[b]furan. In the phenylation of [2-2H]benzo[b]furan with phenylpalladium salts, it was confirmed that no hydride shift takes place in the reaction. In the presence of palladium acetate, benzo[b]furan also reacts with olefin to produce benzo[b]furyl-substituted olefins, accompanied by a small amount of 2,2′-bibenzo[b]furyl, and from the reaction of [β,β-2H2]styrene and benzo[b]furan in the presence of palladium acetate it was confirmed that no hydride shift occurs in the reaction.

Aryl substitution of olefins. Reaction of σ-vinyl palladium(ii) with benzene or toluene: Evidence for the reaction mechanism

Abstract The reactions of σ-olefin-palladium(II)complexes with an aromatic compound such as benzene or toluene have been found to produce aryl-substituted olefins. This result provides support for a mechanism for the aromatic substitution of olefins in the presence of palladium acetate which involves a σ-bonded olefin-palladium(II) intermediate.

Aromatic substitution of olefin—IX : Reactions of olefins containing a polar group with benzene

The phenylation of olefins containing a polar group was carried out in the presence of palladium acetate and acetic acid. The reaction mechanism is discussed.

Aromatic substitution of olefin—VII : Reactions of lower olefins with benzene by palladium acetate

The phenylation of propylene, 1-butene, rans- and cis-butenes, and 1,3-butadiene with benzene was carried out in the presence of palladium acetate and acetic acid. It was concluded that, although the usual olefins predominantly undergo phenylation, an olefin which can easily form a π-allyl complex gives acetates as major products under the present reaction conditions.
