INTERFERENSI DALAM MAJALAH TEMPO EDISI KHUSUS HARI KEMERDEKAN

AbstractThis research is motivated by the purpose of describing the types of interference in the special edition of Tempo magazine on independence day 20-26 August 2018, describing the form of language used in the interference on this Tempo magazine, and the influence of interference on the development of Indonesian language in the Tempo magazine. The method used is the synchronic description method, supported by the observation method and the split method. The results of the research conducted, found the types of interference from this Tempo magazine, namely types of phonological interference, types of morphological interference, types of syntactic interference, and types of semantic interference. In the discussion, the type of interference that dominates is the type of syntactic interference in the field of sentence structure. The form of language which is an interference found in Tempo magazine is sentences, clauses, phrases, words, morphemes, and phonemes. The language used in this interference is the language that comes from Javanese, English and Jakarta dialects.Keywords: interference type, language form, magazine.

Mental Simulations of Phonological Representations Are Causally Linked to Silent Reading of Direct Versus Indirect Speech.

Embodied theories propose that language is understood via mental simulations of sensory states related to perception and action. Given that direct speech (e.g., She says, “It’s a lovely day!”) is perceived to be more vivid than indirect speech (e.g., She says (that) it’s a lovely day) in perception, recent research shows in silent reading that more vivid speech representations are mentally simulated for direct speech than for indirect speech. This ‘simulated’ speech is found to contain suprasegmental prosodic representations (e.g., speech prosody) but its phonological detail and its causal role in silent reading of direct speech remain unclear. Here in three experiments, I explored the phonological aspect and the causal role of speech simulations in silent reading of tongue twisters in direct speech, indirect speech and non-speech sentences. The results demonstrated greater visual tongue-twister effects (phonemic interference) during silent reading (Experiment 1) but not oral reading (Experiment 2) of direct speech as compared to indirect speech and non-speech. The tongue-twister effects in silent reading of direct speech were selectively disrupted by phonological interference (concurrent articulation) as compared to manual interference (finger tapping) (Experiment 3). The results replicated more vivid speech simulations in silent reading of direct speech, and additionally extended them to the phonological dimension. Crucially, they demonstrated a causal role of phonological simulations in silent reading of direct speech, at least in tongue-twister reading. The findings are discussed in relation to multidimensionality and task dependence of mental simulation and its mechanisms.

Interferences Of English-Japanese Language In The Covid-19 Pandemic

Interference is the use of other language elements by individual bilingual languages. Several researchers have researched interference, but no one has examined the interference with Covid-19 as an object. This study aims to describe the forms of English language phonological, morphological, and syntactic interference to the Japanese language. This study used a qualitative descriptive research method, with data sources in the form of vocabulary or terms during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results of this study indicated that the phonological interference forms found are phoneme addition, phoneme insertion, and phoneme substitution, which are caused by differences in syllables. The morphological and syntax interference in the form of compound words and phrases caused by differences in the class of terms that form between the two languages.

Assessing Rhotic Production by Bilingual Spanish Speakers

Due to its articulatory precision, the Spanish rhotic system is generally acquired in late childhood by monolingually-raised (L1) Spanish speakers. Heritage speakers and second language (L2) learners, unlike L1 speakers, risk an incomplete acquisition of the rhotic system due to limited Spanish input and possible phonological interference from English. In order to examine the effects of age of onset of bilingualism and cross-linguistic influence on bilinguals’ rhotic productions, twenty-four adult participants (six sequential bilingual heritage speakers, six simultaneous bilingual heritage speakers, six L1 Spanish speakers, six L2 Spanish learners) were audio recorded in a storytelling task and a picture naming task. The alveolar taps [ɾ] and alveolar trills [r] produced in these tasks were examined according to duration of the rhotic sound and number of apical occlusions. Results showed that the sequential bilinguals, but not the simultaneous bilinguals or the L2 learners, patterned similarly to the L1 Spanish speakers in their production of taps and trills. Neither heritage group produced the English alveolar approximant [ɹ]; the L2 learners, on the other hand, did produce [ɹ] when speaking Spanish. The results of this study suggest that early language input can affect the production of sounds that are acquired in late childhood.

INTERFERENCE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ARABIC VOCABULARY (A MORPHOLOGICAL REVIEW)

Purpose: This study aims to describe the forms of Arabic language interference on terminologies in the domains of science, technology, and art.
 Methodology: The study was conducted morphophonologically using descriptive-analytical research methods. The descriptive-analytic research method was used to facilitate the achievement of goals specified in this study. The data findings were reviewed using the distributional method.
 Main Findings: The study found that language interference is an aspect of vocabulary development and enrichment, which requires harmonization of speech sounds. The results showed that in the Arabic language, interference produced partial absorption and full absorption. Phonologically, partial absorption occurred through the absorption of sound elements at the beginning or end of a word.
 Applications: Understanding the issue of language transfer in the development of Arabic vocabulary is useful for non- native Arabic speakers. The findings can also help Arabic teachers revise their teachings methods accordingly.
 Novelty/Originality of this study: This study contributed to a better understanding of the forms of phonological interference of foreign languages into the Arabic language. These forms can be represented as partial absorption, total absorption, and sound change. While in morphological forms, interference causes different developments of word patterns from classical Arabic.

Interferensi Bahasa Sunda terhadap Bahasa Indonesia

This research is motivated by the people in Indonesia which consist of various ethnic groups and cultures, each of which has a regional language. This will cause the Indonesian language to receive influence from regional languages, including Sundanese. Like the students of Madrasah Tsanawiah Mathla ul Anwar Banten who use two languages, namely Sundanese as the first language and Indonesian as the second language. The Indonesian language they use is only in learning situations at school, while in their surroundings they use Sundanese as their daily language. Of course the Indonesian they use, especially when students communicate verbally, is still influenced by Sundanese. The problem that the writer examines in this research is the students' oral style, namely how the form of Sundanese phonological interference to Indonesian and the factors causing phonological interference. The method used in this research is descriptive method and research techniques are used to complement this method with literature and recording techniques. The results of the recordings are then made transcript and then interpret the errors, analyze the errors found, and interpret the results of the analysis and conclude them. The results showed that there was the addition of the phoneme h, the replacement of the phoneme f to p, the replacement of the phoneme a to e, the replacement of the phoneme i to e, the replacement of the diphthong au to o, the elimination of the phoneme e, the removal of the phoneme h As for the factors that cause interference by speakers include: bilingualism, lack of loyalty to Indonesian language users, and eliminating rarely used vocabulary.

INTERFERENSI FONOLOGI PADA PEMBELAJAR BIPA ASAL EROPA DI BALI

This study aimed to determine phonological interference that occurs on BIPA learners from Europe in Bali. Oraland written data are used in this research that were obtained from learners' speeches and writings when learning Indonesian in the class. This research was guided by interference theory according to Weinreich (1953). Oral data were collected using proficient inversion techniques (SLC), skillful in-flight listening techniques (SBLC), recording techniques, and note taking. Writing data were collected by the test method. The data analyzed and presented in formal and informal forms. The results of data analysis showed that phonological interference that occurred in BIPA learners from Europe in Bali, namely in the form of vocal noise interference (occurred in vowels [a], [u], and [ə]), consonant sound interference (occurred in consonants [h] , [r], [g], [ŋ], [t], [g], and [ɲ]), interference in the form of sound addition (occurred in the sounds [ŋ] and [ɲ]), and interference in the form of sound removal ( occurred in consonants [r], vowel series [e] and [a], and consonants [h]). This interference occurred because of differences in vowel and consonant sounds in Indonesian and English. In addition, this interference was also caused by the different pronunciation of a vowel sound or consonant sound in both languages.

SUNDANESE PHONOLOGICAL INTERFERENCE INTO ARABIC LANGUAGE IN KETAPANG SOCIETY

Ketapang is a village in Limau sub-district, Tanggamus district, Lampung province, Indonesia, inhabited by Sundanese speakers. This condition contributes to the variation of Arabic pronunciation, causing irregularities or difficulties known as disturbances. Linguistic phenomenon as a form of language development, something important happens in Arabic. This research was to study phonological interference forms in Sundanese. This research used a qualitative descriptive method with data collection methods through interviews, observations and hearing that comes to the speech of the Ketapang community. The results showed several changes in the phonological change phenomenon, namely phoneme changes and word changes. This study contributes to the knowledge of language development that occurs from phonological disorders in Sundanese to Arabic, thus providing a great deal of knowledge about Arabic linguistic studies.

The Phonological Interference in EFL Reading

The study aimed at exploring the phonological interference made by Pendalungan students in EFL reading, particularly in vowel phonemes. Pendalungan is an assimilation of two majority ethnics in Eastern Java; Java and Madura. Due to the unique characteristics of the language used by this group of community, it is assumed that the errors made by EFL Pendhalungan students might show different patterns as those found in either Javanese and Madurese students. To answer the problem of the research, the descriptive qualitative design was employed. There were eight students who belonged to the Pendalungan community, from a private university in East Java were taken as respondents. The secondary instruments used was an oral test of reading an English text. The finding showed that there were 12 incorrecty pronounced vowels; /ɪ, aʊ, ɔ:, e, Ʌ, əʊ, aɪ, ɪə, ə, ɒ, eɪ, æ/. The finding was analyzed based on the types of phonological interference, namely sound addition, sound omission, and sound replacement. The first two types have the least cases of two for each, while the last type has the most. Furthermore,the phonological interference emerged in the finding is somehow related to the nature of both languages, Javanese and Madurese. Inaccuracy mostly occurs because students pronounce the words as they are written.

PHONOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECTS OF FIRST LANGUAGE ACQUISITION (L1) ON SECOND LANGUAGE LEARNING: A CASE STUDY OF TIV LANGUAGE AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE

This paper examines the phonological interference of Tiv Language as an L1 on English language learning as an L2. In learning English language, the knowledge acquired in the first language (L1) is transferred to the Second Language (L2). In the analysis, the theories ofinterference and transfer are applied. The methodology adopted is descriptiveand anobservational approach. Theresearchers observed Tiv-English learners in oral English lessons and interactions among students in classes and school compounds at Cornerstone Academy, Makurdi from the year 2014 – 2016 and Saviour Model College, Akpehe – Logo II, Makurdi from 2016 – 2017. Within these periods, one of the researchers taught in the schools. It has been found out that in certain Tiv words /r/ and /l/ are interchangeable and considered to be free variation as in gure, - gule (to kneel down), mbamaren – mbamalen (parents), the knowledge which some Tiv learners of English transfer toEnglish make them to realize words like: radio/reidi∂ ? / as ladio/leidi∂ ? /, red/red/ as led/led/. Phonological Interference in Reciting Al-Qur’an: A Critical Reflection on the Learning of Al-Qur’an Phonology through Action Research

In reciting Al-Qur'an, one is obliged to follow the rules of recitation in order to avoid mistakes in reciting it, both major errors ( Lahn Jali ) or minor errors ( Lahn Khafi ). This study aims at analyzing phonological interference in the practice of reciting Al-Qur'an in one of the universities in Indonesia. The method used was action research involving 25 students as the subject, consisting of 12 female and 13 male students. The research subject was a group of people who used Javanese as their native language or have a Javanese cultural background. The techniques of collecting data were listening, documenting, and interviewing. This study produced a number of steps as an act of critical reflection in minimizing the forms of phonological interference in reciting Al-Qur'an, namely Listening, Observation, Verification, Values, and Evaluation (LOVVE) as a learning method. These steps were able to reduce the number of phonological interference in the practice of reciting Al-Qur'an or in other words they were able to increase students’ fluency in reciting Al-Qur'an for a total of 24 people (96%). In conclusion, there were five steps to improve fluency or minimize the form of phonological interference in reading the Qur'an for students from Javanese cultural background. https://doi.org/10.26803/ijlter.18.9.3

PHONOLOGICAL AND MORPHOLOGICAL INTERFERENCE OF MADURESE INTO JAVANESE MADRASAH TSANAWIYAH DARUSSALAM JEMBER STUDENTS

The society of Jember are a community that know two languages, namely Javanese and Madurese. As the effect, there happens a language contact which causes interference. This study examines the interference forms of Madurese on Javenese by the studentes at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Darussalam Jember. In their daily life, the students often use Javanese and Madurese at the same time while communicating. This is what causes the interference. This study is conducted based on two theoretical frameworks; bilingualism and interference. The methods for collecting data are face to face and non-face to face interview. The face to face interview method is used to verify the written data, while the written data is obtained through non-face to face interview. Then, the data obtained is classified based on the type of interference which is occured. After being classified, the forms of interference are analyzed by using the translational identity and distributional method. The result of the analysis is presented by using formal and informal method ologies. The results of this study show phonological and morphological interferences. Phonological interference is found in the form of gemination usage and the loss of phoneme /h/ at the end of the word. Morphological interferences are found in the use of confix è-aghi on confiks di-i , the use of confix ka-an as a morpheme to declare 'togetherness', the use of morpheme cè’ with suffix -é stating the meaning of' excessive', the use of suffix -na states the meaning of 'ownership', and the use of the reduplication of the final syllable.

In the aspect of social life, the function of language is traditionally as a verbal medium and also as a communication tool to convey thoughts of ideas and concepts, If in a society it consists of various regions with different language uses, language contacts and language interference will arisebetween the first language and the second language, that's why the researchers chose the title of interference that occurs between the languages first language (Madurans language) with the second language (Arabic language). In this research there are two formulations of the problem studied, the first is how is the form of interference used by students of syaichona cholil state, the second is how to speak the correct pronunciation of Arabic after interference. The formulation are intended to find out the various forms of interference that are often used and to provide knowledge on how to pronounce the correct language.This research uses descriptive qualitative research with the method of collecting data through three types, interviews, observation, and documentation with using the miles analysis model.The results of this research concluded that the occurrence of phonological and morphological interference was categorized into three typesfirst, elemental interference,interference is which occurs because of the inclusion of the morphological elements of the Madurans language into Arabic-like morphology, affixesthe example of the word astaghfirullah becomes poralla and syaitan becomes satan and others. Second, the interference pattern is morphological interference in the form of the use of the Madura language morphological process patterns in the formation of Arabic words the example of la ba’tsa( لابأس ) becomes la madza madza (لا ماذا ماذا. )Third, combination interference is the occurrence of elemental interference and interference patterns in one sentence like the word قلب قلب (be careful).

Phonological Interference and Morphology of BMT in Student Narrative Essays, Indonesia

This Study dealt with Morphology of BMT in Student Narrative Essays, Indonesia In Tamiang Dialect. The influence of the downstream dialect language of Tamiang cannot be ignored by the people of Tamiang Hilir. The Lower dialect Tamiang language used since childhood in the home, family environment, and the community has been so pervasive to the users of the local language. This fact shows that the people of Tamiang Hilir often use Indonesian in a formal environment or only certain circles. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. Qualitative research generally tries to form or construct theory through collected data. In the description, it is presented in a systematic, factual, and accurate manner regarding the data and characteristics of the phenomena studied. The result shows that There are phonological equations, morphology in Malay and Indonesian. Because, Indonesian root groups adopted the Malay language as the basis for use. So that many lexical meanings are homonym, homograph and hyponym in Malay that are similar to Indonesian and other regional languages.

SUNDANESE PHONOLOGICAL INTERFERENCE OF THE RECITATION OF SURA AL-FATIHA OF THE HOLY QURAN

Culture is one of elements that affect a person's proficiency of foreign languages. Sundanese phonological structure is different from Arabic. Therefore, it is difficult for some Sundanese people to pronounce Arabic. For example, Sundanese tends to face difficulties in reciting the verses of the Holy Quran. The Holy Quran is the Muslims’ holy book that is written in Arabic. The recitation of the Holy Quran should be in accordance with the Arabic phonology. In fact, Some Sundanese make irregularities or interference during reciting the Suras (chapters) of the Holy Quran. This study aims to reveal the phonological interference experienced by Sundanese speakers in reciting the Sura Al-Fatiha of the Holy Quran. The data in this study covers the recitations of the Sura Al-Fatiha. The data is retrieved through observation, recording, and interviews with some Sundanese people that live around the UPI Campus. The study concludes that there are five phonological interference phenomena in the pronunciation of the Hijā’ī (Arabic Alphabet) during the recitation of Sura Al-Fatiha. They are lenition, sound reinforcement, unusual sound changes, the voice addition, and assimilation. Some factors cause such interferences. They cover the influence of the Sundanese vocabulary and Arab phonemes that do not exist in the phonology of the Sundanese language.

Comprehension in interpreting and translation: testing the phonological interference hypothesis

ABSTRACTStudies on the comprehension process in interpreting have shown that concurrent processing reduces recall in simultaneous interpreting. This effect has been attributed to phonological interference: since the articulatory loop is busy with the parallel vocalization of two streams of speech, encoding is impaired to such an extent that interpreters are not able to remember much of what they have just interpreted. On the other hand, recent studies on the translation process show that comprehension and production overlap in written translation in a way that is similar to simultaneous interpreting. Therefore, this article examines the role of phonological interference in written and oral translation to determine whether or not it also hinders recall in written translation, and to gauge how task requirements affect the comprehension process in translation and interpreting. In this study, comprehension was measured through summarization, multiple choice comprehension questions and cloze questions administered after simultaneous interpretation and translation activities were completed by a group of advanced interpreting students. Results suggest that both translation and interpreting share similar features regarding parallel processing and, furthermore, that the process of comprehension is influenced by the demands associated with translation and simultaneous interpreting.

Indonesian Interference toward English Used on Outdoor Advertisement Boards and Banner in Sukoharjo, Central Java

Interference is a common phenomenon in second language learning. However, the researchers are interested in analyzing interference from another point of view. This research aims at finding the types of Indonesian interference toward English found in outdoor advertisement boards and banners in Sukoharjo. The researchers use some theories dealing with interference such as the definition of interference and type of interference. This research belongs to a descriptive qualitative research. Data of this research are English words, phrases, and sentences consisting of Indonesian interference toward English used in outdoor advertisement boards and banner. The data are taken from outdoor advertisement boards and banners in Sukoharjo. The technique of data collection used is observation then followed by writing technique. English words, phrases, and sentences with no interference are reduced. Then the data found are encoded with No data/Data/Kinds of Interference. The researchers use theory triangulation during this research. The researchers found 74 data of Indonesian interference toward English in outdoor advertisement boards and banners in Sukoharjo. After analyzing the data, the researchers found that there are 6 types of Indonesian interference toward English; (1) syntactic interference in the formation of phrase and sentence (2) Lexical interference in the case of borrowing words adapted into Indonesian spelling (3) Phonological interference in vowel sounds, consonant sounds, and semivowel sounds (4) Morphological interference in the process of affixation (5) Graphic interference in the spelling principle (6) Translation interference which happens because of direct translation.

Diagnoza artykulacji u dzieci dwujęzycznych wychowujących się w środowisku polsko-amerykańskim

The following article presents a diagnostic procedure and describes articulation errors typical for bilingual children growing up in Polish-American families. It discusses the assessment process of bilingual children raised in multilingual and multicultural environment, for whom Polish is not a dominant language of daily use. The article aims at suggesting the diagnostic procedure based on multiple case study and describing each step of the assessment process (including presentation of the diagnostic tools available in Poland and the U.S.), as well as the diagnosis and therapy plan. In order to broaden the understanding of phonetic and phonological interference in bilingual students’ speech, the article describes and compares briefly the phonetic and phonological systems of Polish and American English. Through a detailed analysis of two case studies, it describes the possible diagnostic and therapeutic paths in the speech therapy of bilingual children raised in Polish-American environment.

INTERFERENSI BAHASA MELAYU MALAYSIA TERHADAP BAHASA INDONESIA PADA MASYARAKAT TKI KECAMATAN SIKUR

It is a common phenomenon that many rural populations work in Malaysia well known as Indonesian Labors (TKI). Even, some of them have been working for 5 years without passport. Their long period serving as Malaysian TKI affects to the ungrammatical and interference usage of Indonesian language. This study focuses on the causes and interferences form of Malayan language towards the TKI’s Indonesian language performance in Sub-district of Sikur. This is descriptive and qualitative study. The data is collected by using recording and interview technique. Then, the recording data is transcribed into written form and is analyzed by using interactive analysis with the following steps: data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Based on the data analysis, it is concluded that the interferences occurred among the Malaysian TKI populations are caused by interaction, habitual use of Malayan language for communication and their long period serving as TKI. In addition, forms of language interferences of the Malaysian TKI are phonological interference which occurs through shift of vowel phoneme, shift of consonant phoneme, and articulation of vowel and consonant phoneme. Beside that, morphological interference also occurs through prefix di-, clitics –nya, preposition di, full reduplication and partial reduplication. Finally, syntactic interference occurs in term of function, category and role.

INTERFERENCE OF MALAY MANADO LANGUAGE TOWARD INDONESIAN LANGUAGE BY STUDENTS’ SPEECH IN GORONTALO STATE UNIVERSITY

Interference of Malay Manado Language in Formal Spoken Indonesian Language: “A Case Study at Indonesian Language Studies, Gorontalo State University” .This research aims to elaborate the kinds of interference in Malay Manado Language toward Indonesian Language on students’ speech in class discussion performance and to describe the most frequent of interference that students produced in class discussion performance by students in Indonesian Language Studies. Besides, the purpose of this research is to disclose the students deal with the interference on their speech in class discussion performance.The research was conducted in Indonesian Language Studies, Gorontalo State University. The data were collected from students’ speech in class discussion performance by using recording technique. The samples were 30 respondents. Two methods in analyzing data, namely descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. There are three kinds of interference that students produced on students’ speech in class discussion performance namely phonological interference, morphological interference, and lexical interference. Firstly, in phonological interference can be categorized into assimilation, merger colescence or diftong, syncope, apocope, compression, and vowel modification. In morphological interference, they produced prefix addition, imperative form, reduplication, compounding form, and negation form. In Lexical interference, they created nine types of interference namely verb, noun, adjective, pronoun, adverb, question form, language particle, possesive, and preposition. Secondly, the most frequent type of interference on students’ speech in class discussion performance is lexical interference. It is about 193 in the percentage 59.38 %. Lastly, there are some factors that causing interference on students’ speech. They are, bilingualism, the lack of using Indonesian Language, needs for synonyms and the last is students’ high prestige.
