Metagenomic and metaproteomic insights into the microbiome and the key geobiochemical potentials on the sandstone of rock-hewn Beishiku Temple in Northwest China

Metagenomics and metaproteomics analyses were used to determine the microbial diversity and taxon composition, as well as the biochemical potentials of the microbiome on the sandstone of Beishiku Temple located in Northwest China. Taxonomic annotation of the metagenomic dataset revealed the predominant taxa of the stone microbiome on this cave temple with characteristics of resistance to harsh environmental conditions. Meanwhile, there were also taxa in the microbiome that showed sensitivity to environmental factors. The taxa distribution and the metabolic functional distribution patterns by the metagenome and metaproteome, respectively, showed clear differences. The high abundance of energy metabolism represented in the metaproteome suggested that there were active geomicrobiological cycles of elements within the microbiome. The taxa responsible for reactions in the nitrogen cycle from both metagenome and metaproteome supported a metabolically active nitrogen cycle, and the high activity of Comammox bacteria indicated the strong metabolic activity of ammonia oxidation to nitrate in the outdoor site. The SOX-related taxa involved in the sulfur cycle showed higher activity outdoors than indoors, and on the outdoor ground than at the outdoor cliff, as detected through metaproteomic analysis. The development of petrochemical industry in the vicinity resulting in the deposition of sulfur/oxidized sulfur via atmosphere may stimulate the physiological activity of SOX. Our findings provide metagenomic and metaproteomic evidence for microbially driven geobiochemical cycles that result in the biodeterioration of stone monuments.

Formation and development of petrochemical production in kazakhstan according to the cluster principle

The issues of the petrochemical industry development of the Republic of Kazakhstan by creating a petrochemical cluster in the western oil and gas region of the country are studied. The issues of creating a petrochemical cluster in Kazakhstan and creating an integrated petrochemical complex in the Atyrau region are considered. The essence of the cluster approach as the main factor in increasing the regional competitiveness of the Atyrau region is revealed, and the expediency and efficiency of creating a petrochemical cluster and an integrated petrochemical complex are substantiated. The stages of construction of an integrated petrochemical complex are described depending on the sources of supply of raw materials used. A schematic diagram of the formation of a petrochemical cluster in Kazakhstan is created. The main groups of factors substantiating the possibilities and economic expediency of creating a petrochemical cluster, which ensures the high profitability of this industry, are determined. It is shown that the innovative petrochemical cluster makes it possible to accelerate the diversification of the economy and the activation of non-primary, high-tech industries.

Adaption to Tianjin, China, Based on a Retrospective Pattern Study on the Petrochemical Industry Development and the Correlated Process of SO2 Abatement in Yokkaichi, Japan

Yokkaichi is one of the four major Japanese cities facing air pollution after World War II, owing to modern urban industrialization in the 20th century. Tianjin City, in China, also showed similar industrial patterns in the petrochemical industry. For decades, the petrochemical industry development has been deteriorating the environment with its by-product, sulfur dioxide (SO2). In this paper, we summarized the characteristics of air pollution in Yokkaichi through a retrospective approach by comparing common features of Yokkaichi and Tianjin. We believe that Yokkaichi is at Stage 4, after the pollution stage, whereas Tianjin is currently in Stage 3. We believe that the efficacy of regional environmental policies in Yokkaichi related to SO2 pollution can help predict the pollution pattern in Tianjin. We used an extended stochastic regression on a population, affluence, and technology model as a reference to demonstrate the feasibility of Yokkaichi’s pattern and the comparison between Yokkaichi and Tianjin. Fossil fuels, especially crude oil, may continuously be exploited as the main energy source in the next few decades. Thus, experiences of SO2 air pollution in Yokkaichi and Tianjin’s could be of universal value. As it has been 50 years since the final judgment of the Yokkaichi Asthma and Yokkaichi Air pollution joint lawsuit, we attempted to reflect on Yokkaichi’s history to strengthen efforts to achieve future sustainable development goals.

Priority measures to overcome the consequences of the introduction of new sanctions against the oil and gas sector of the Russian Federation

Subject. The article considers new sanctions against the oil and gas sector of Russia and the policy of leading foreign oil and gas companies. Objectives. The focus is on the assessment of export prospects of the fuel and energy complex. Methods. The study employs methods of comparative analysis and generalization. Results. The paper reveals that new sanctions against the oil and gas industry of Russia are aimed at limiting the export of domestic fuel and energy products, access to oil refining technologies, and investment inflows. The import of hydrocarbons from Russia is not critical for the United States, Great Britain, Canada, and Australia, while the European Union is seriously dependent on the supply of Russian energy resources, and, therefore, there is a time reserve for transformation of the entire domestic energy sector. Conclusions. New sanctions against the energy sector are a powerful external impetus for the domestic petrochemical industry development.

State regulation measures and existing state strategy for the development of petrochemical industry in Russia

Development of petrochemical industry, in particular the increase in the efficiency and quality of refined products, necessitates high long-term capital expenditures from oil companies. Today the process of petrochemical industry modernization is facing certain difficulties, which include lack of high-quality modern technologies and engineering, instability of tax policy, lack of qualified personnel, underfunding of projects, low profitability of oil refineries, high dependence on imports of the industry, etc. Complexity of the domestic petrochemical industry development underpins its support from the state. Currently, the development of petrochemical industry is enshrined in three state program documents. These documents include general scheme for the development of oil industry for the period up to 2020, the plan for the development of gas and petrochemicals in Russia for the period up to 2030 and the strategy for the development of chemical and petrochemical complex for the period of up to 2030. This article examines state regulation measures and existing state strategy for the development of petrochemical industry in Russia, as well as the impact and consequences of this regulation reflected on the activities of corporations.

Forecasting the Energy Capacity of Petrochemical Productions Under Conditions of Technological Transformations

The purpose of the study is to identify patterns of energy-saving development of the petrochemical industry in the context of the introduction of innovations and to predict the energy intensity of the industry based on economic and mathematical modeling. As part of achieving the goal, an analysis of the series of dynamics was carried out and prognostic methods based on variant correlation analysis and regression modeling were applied. At the first stage of the study, the dynamics of energy consumption and costs of innovative activities in the development of petrochemical industries in Russia was assessed; at the second stage, a predictive model of changes in the energy intensity of petrochemical industries was built. As a result of the study, the regularities of the development of petrochemical industries in Russia were revealed (stable reduction in energy consumption, unstable dynamics of unit costs for innovative activities of petrochemical industries); the nature of the influence of technological modernization of production on the level of energy intensity is determined, which is manifested in the difference in sectoral accents of innovative development; regression equations are proposed, reflecting the dependence of the energy intensity of petrochemical industries on the volume of sales of industry products; calculated the predicted values of energy intensity, allowing to develop a set of management measures to support the energy efficient development of industry in Russia. The formulated conclusions and results can serve as a basis for improving the strategic directions of development of the petrochemical industry in Russia, taking into account the prioritization of the implementation of energy-saving innovative solutions.

Ethane/ethylene separation in a metal-organic framework with shape-matching ethane traps

Ethylene (C2H4) plays an important role in industrial production and energy-efficiency separation C2H4 and C2H6 is one of the important processes for the sustainable development of petrochemical industry. Herein, we chose CPM-35 equipping ethane traps for adsorption separation of C2H6/C2H4. The experiment and computation results show that C2H6 can be priority adsorbed (IAST C2H6/C2H4 selectivity is 1.51 ​at 298 ​K and 1 ​bar) and the purification of C2H4 can be realized by this material.

The article discusses the new environmentally friendly catalytic technologies for processing butane cut, developed by SIE Neftehim LLC, giving wide opportunities for involving LPG in production of commercial value-added products. Development of petrochemical industry has created a demand for technologies and catalysts that enhance the economic efficiency of petrochemical products’ manufacturing and expand the feed base of petrochemical facilities without involving primary processing feeds. As the environmentally safe and economically effective solution, SIE Neftehim, LLC offers Isomalk-3 technology to produce maximum amount of isobutane, and Isomalk-3R technology to produce maximum amount of n-butane from isobutane cut. Application of Isomalk-3R technology expands the feed base for ethylene production due to isomerization of isobutane by-product to n-butane. N-butane is a valuable feed for pyrolysis units, providing high yields of ethylene, propylene, and n-butene used for polymer production. In turn, obtaining additional amounts of isobutane is possible due to application of n-butane to isobutane catalytic isomerization technology Isomalk-3. Isobutane cut produced in Isomalk-3 technology is notable for its high purity: the isobutane content may exceed 99 wt.%, it has no sulfur, nitrogen, chlorine, and oxygen impurities. Isobutane is in demand as the feed for production of alkylate, butyl rubber, oxygenates (MTBE and ETBE), isooctane. Isomalk-3 and Isomalk-3R processes do not require injection of chlorinating reagents, and the highly active catalytic system is resistant to poisons and impurities. Isomalk-3 and Isomalk-3R process designs are very similar, which allows integrating two units into one for alternate production of n-butane and isobutane.

Application prospect of laser cleaning in petrochemical field

Laser cleaning is a surface engineering technology which uses the high-energy characteristic of laser to remove attachments on the substrate. It has been gradually promoted in the fields of microelectronics, mould, building, aerospace, and so on. However, as a pillar industry of national economy, there are rare reports on the application of laser cleaning technology in petrochemical industry. In this paper, the cleaning needs and technology status of petrochemical industry are introduced, the existing technology cannot fully meet the new requirements of petrochemical industry development. The development of laser cleaning technology both at home and abroad in recent years is reviewed, the work has provided a theoretical basis and ideal reference for the application of laser cleaning in the petrochemical field. And the application occasions of laser cleaning technology in petrochemical field are analyzed. In addition, the specific research directions and application prospect are pointed out.

A dynamic model to formulate effective capacity expansion policies in Iranian petrochemical Industry to complete the value chain

The petrochemical industry plays a pivotal role in achieving high value-added products from oil and gas reserves. With attention to oil and gas reserves in Iran, it is clear that the petrochemical industry has not grown up adequately. This study aims to determine effective factors on petrochemical industry development and model the mechanism of capacity expansion budget creation using a system dynamics approach. A quantified system dynamics model has been built based on causal relationships and the mechanism of development budget allocation among categorized products. This structure is used to simulate the model and investigate essential variables related to each product, such as production capacity value, production rate, domestic sale revenue, and export. According to the results of a simulation, in 2025, Iran will have a capacity of approximately 104 million tons of petrochemical products that is not desirable. In this study, a policy of improving budget plan and allocation is introduced as the most effective solution to achieve the petrochemical industry development. By implementing this policy the production capacity and total revenue would respectively be improved by 4% and 13% in 2025 in comparison with the base run.

This study aims to investigate and model the development dynamics of the petrochemical industry in Iran using system dynamics (SD) methodology. Consequently, after describing the interrelationships among the main variables making the dynamics of domestic investment, a quantified model is built to simulate possible outcomes under different scenarios. According to the results, in 2025, the capacity of Iran's petrochemical productions will range from 73 to 78 million tons. Also, the value of products will range from 26 to 36 million dollars (USD) in 2025 that can be an interesting research area to investigate how the value of diversified petrochemical products can be increased. Finally, through a model-based scenario and policy analysis, some optimised policies are offered to enhance the petrochemical industry of Iran in the future.

Research on the Problem of Strengthening Talent Training in Daqing City

As a typical oil resource-based city, Daqing has gathered a large number of technical talents after 60 years of development and construction. With Daqing entering the period of strategic reduction of crude oil production, in order to continuously promote the development of petrochemical industry, Daqing needs more types and levels of talents. Based on the analysis of the current situation of talents in Daqing City, this paper tries to solve the factors restricting the development of Daqing City, establish a more complete and standardized mechanism of talent training and operation, and provide useful reference and suggestions for the implementation of the strategy of strengthening the city with talents.

Accompanying the development of petrochemical industry, great progress has been achieved in the organic polymer materials. It is well known that the conventional polymer materials usually consist of organosilicon polymers, polycarbonates, polyethylene, polyamide, polyurethane, polysulfone, phenolic resin and so on. Although their synthesis and applications have been well developed, the further research on them still has great significance. Moreover, natural polymers such as polysaccharides, tannins, cellulose also occupy an important position in the family of the organic polymer materials.

Toward Green Supply Chain Management of Petrochemical Industry in Indonesia

The Indonesia government put high effort on the integrated petrochemical industry development by strengthening research and development toward green industry of petrochemical industry in order to create more market potential as well as to achieve the sustainability. The green industry standard is closely related to raw materials, supported materials, energy, production process, product, company or manufacture management and waste management. Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) concept involves the integration of environmentally conscious thinking into all phases of key supply chain management processes. Such activities include green materials sourcing, design of products with consideration given to their environmental impact based on packaging, purchasing, shipment and end of life management for products including easy recycling and or clean disposal. An effort toward GSCM has started being implemented by Petrochemical Producers in Indonesia.

One-step facile fabrication of sustainable cellulose membrane with superhydrophobicity via a sol-gel strategy for efficient oil/water separation

With the rapid development of petrochemical industry, oily wastewater pose a serious threat to environment and human safety. Recently, superhydrophobic and superoleophilic materials have received considerable interest due to their high selective oil/water separation. Nevertheless, facile fabrication, stability, eco-friendly, sustainable and low cost materials are still a great challenge. Here, a sustainable superhydrophobic cellulose membrane (SOCM) is prepared via one-step facile sol-gel strategy for efficient oil/water separation. The superhydrophobicity is endowed with cellulose membrane (CM) by one-step micro/nano hierarchical structures construction and low-surface-energy chemical modification from tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS) hydrolysis and polycondensation. The SOCM shows high separation efficiencies (above 98%) for various oil/water mixtures. Importantly, the SOCM displays well environmental (acid, alkali and salt-resistance) and mechanical durability (tape peeling and scratch-resistance) and remarkable reusability (at least 10 times). The merits of facile fabrication, stability, eco-friendly, sustainable and low cost make SOCM a promising candidate material for large-scale application in oil/water separation.

Research Progress of Groundwater Pollution Prevention Technology in Petrochemical Enterprises

With the increasingly serious pollution of groundwater and soil, the stricter prevention indicators, seepage prevention technology as an effective way to prevent and cure the groundwater and soil pollution, its theoretical research has become a hot spot in the field of petrochemical and environmental protection. In this paper, domestic and foreign research progress on groundwater seepage prevention technology were reviewed. Then, division of seepage prevention, seepage prevention material, structure type of seepage proof layer present development were analyzed, the natural impermeable layer, flexible impermeable layer and rigid impermeable layer characteristics were mainly illustrated. Moreover, combing the research achievements of seepage prevention technology in China, some suggestions on main research direction of seepage prevention were put forward. And thus, significant demand on sustainable development of petrochemical industry can be satisfied better.

Development of new catalytic processes for processing petroleum feedstock

Abstract Currently such factors as the use of heavier feedstocks, permanent strengthening of requirements to oil and gas product quality, introduction of technical regulations for oil products, which, in turn, necessitate the development of new technologies and catalysts, have a great influence on the global oil-refining and petrochemical industry development. Recently, a special attention is given to the development of new catalysts and processes for producing middle distillate fuels suitable for cold and arctic climatic conditions. Catalytic hydrodewaxing and isodewaxing processes are the most efficient in this field. Research into controlling a functional structure of catalysts and creation of catalytic systems based on zirconium dioxide modified by tungstate anions are of outstanding interest. The trend of the use of heavier petroleum feedstocks and the need to improve the oil conversion level demand will be based on destruction of high-molecular-weight compound structures with producing light and middle cuts. So, the most important processes for heavy oil residue conversion are those enabling to control transformations of resinous-asphaltenic materials by using nanoscale catalytic systems. One of the examples of the industrial implementation of technologies using suspended catalysts is the hydroconversion process implemented currently at AO TANECO (lisencer: TIPS RAS; general designer: OAO VNIPIneft).
