Network analysis of occupational stress and job satisfaction among radiologists.

Occupational stress and job satisfaction significantly impact the well-being and performance of healthcare professionals, including radiologists. Understanding the complex interplay between these factors through network analysis can provide valuable insights into intervention strategies to enhance workplace satisfaction and productivity. In this study, a convenience sampling method was used to recruit 312 radiologists for participation. Data on socio-demographic characteristics, job satisfaction measured by the Minnesota job satisfaction questionnaire revised short version (MJSQ-RSV), and occupational stress assessed using the occupational stress scale. Network analysis was employed to analyze the data in this study. The network analysis revealed intricate patterns of associations between occupational stress and job satisfaction symptoms among radiologists. Organizational management and occupational interests emerged as crucial nodes in the network, indicating strong relationships within these domains. Additionally, intrinsic satisfaction was identified as a central symptom with high connectivity in the network structure. The stability analysis demonstrated robustness in the network edges and centrality metrics, supporting the reliability of the findings. This study sheds light on the complex relationships between occupational stress and job satisfaction in radiologists, offering valuable insights for targeted interventions and support strategies to promote well-being and job satisfaction in healthcare settings.

Traditionally the focus of simulation has been centred on clinical management. More recently there has been a drive to enhance training on ‘human factors’ [1]. In simulation, human factors can be challenging to replicate, particularly with regards to how individuals interact within a system. At GSTT we introduced a concept known as ‘social GRACES’ into simulation training. Social GRACES, first described by John Burnham in 1992 [2], outline a framework to understand an individual’s personal and social identity. An abundance of research into the development of human factors skills exists in the literature. Our aim was to integrate social GRACES into our simulation programme as a novel approach to engage trainees with human factors. Between October 2022- April 2023, there were 23 full-day simulation training days. The course started with an introduction on human factors and the social GRACES. This was followed by a ‘lost at sea’ activity where trainees worked individually and in teams to prioritize the items they would take if lost at sea. This was followed by 4 clinical scenarios with debriefs related to clinical management, human factors and social GRACES. Pre and post course questionnaires were disseminated, and delegates were consented for data being used for quality improvement. Unique identifiers allowed for paired data analysis. 101 pre-course and 138 post-course feedback forms were received. To allow for paired analysis, only completion of both questionnaires was included, leaving 83 responses. There was a statistically significant increase in the percentage of responders who strongly agreed they felt confident in recognizing (7.2%-35.2%), assessing (15.7%-43.4%), managing (3.6%-20.5%) and escalating care (15.7%-35%), in acutely unwell patients. Additionally, confidence improved in understanding the impact of human factors in delivering care (9.6%-35%) and the performance of healthcare professionals (9.6%-39.8%). We explored confidence with regards to the practical implementation of human factors in healthcare ( 10 questions were devised to assess confidence relating to practical aspects of human factors in healthcare with regards to teamwork, communication, and leadership. Following paired data analysis, we found a statistically significant improvement in confidence in all areas investigated. The results demonstrate that the interplay between managing acute clinical scenarios & human factors can effectively be taught through simulation and enhanced with an understanding of social GRACES. An increased understanding of human factors and simulation training was useful in improving 3 crucial skills; teamwork, communication and leadership, which are instrumental in improving clinician confidence and patient outcomes. Future direction should look to include awareness and implementation of human factors within mainstream simulation to effectively replicate real time clinical scenarios & pressures. Sleep Quality and Nicotine Dependence Among Lebanese University Residents and Fellows: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background and objectives Sleep quality and nicotine addiction are important public health issues with significant negative impacts on individual well-being and the performance of healthcare professionals. This study aims to determine the prevalence and association of nicotine dependence and poor sleep qualityamong residents and fellows enrolled in the Lebanese University. Methods A cross-sectional study using the snowball-sampling technique was conducted in Lebanon between January and March 2023. Data were collected through an online survey that included information on socio-demographic characteristics, nicotine dependence, and sleep quality. A total of 350 residents and fellows were included in the study. Bivariate analysis and multivariable logistic regression were carried out to identify the factors associated with sleep quality. Adjusted odds ratio and 95% confidence intervals were reported. Results One quarter (25.1%) of the residents and fellows were smokers; among them, 44.3%smoked I Quit Ordinary Smoking (IQOS), 14.8%smoked cigarettes, 10.2%smoked waterpipe (WP), 12.5%smoked cigarettes and WP, and 18.2%smoked IQOS and WP. According to the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), 34.3% of participants had poor sleep quality. Smokers had 12.5 times higher odds of experiencing poor sleep quality compared to non-smokers (adjusted odds ratio ORadj = 12.58 with 95% confidence interval [CI] of 7.07-22.36; p-value <0.001). In addition, smoking a combination of two types of tobacco products (cigarettes with WP or IQOS with WP) posed the highest risk of poor sleep quality, with an adjusted odds ratio of 31.54 (95% CI of 9.15-45.74, p-value <0.001). Elevated Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND) and Lebanon Waterpipe Dependence Scale (LWDS-11) scores indicated an increased risk of poor sleep quality(adjusted odds ratio ORadj = 4.69 with 95%CI of2.179-10.10; p-value <0.001; and adjusted odds ratio ORadj =1.27 with 95% CI of1.04-1.55; p-value 0.019, respectively). Conclusion Our study found a significant association between nicotine dependence and poor sleep quality among medical residents and fellows, with smokers being more susceptible to sleep disturbances. The high prevalence of IQOS smoking among medical residents and fellows in Lebanon highlights the urgent need for comprehensive research investigating the effects of heated tobacco products. Furthermore, our study reveals a critical insight into the potential additive effects of nicotine, suggesting that the concurrent use of multiple tobacco products may further elevate the risk of poor sleep quality. Recognizing the implications of our findings, it is imperative to develop targeted interventions and educational programs that promote healthier sleep habits and facilitate smoking cessation among medical residents and fellows.

THE RELATIONSHIP OF LEADERSHIP WITH HEALTH WORKER IN TAMALANREA JAYA COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER, MAKASSAR CITY

Performance can be defined as the evaluation of employees' accomplishments in relation to pre-established work standards. One of the factors that affect performance is the leadership factor of a leader to be able to communicate and influence his subordinates so that they can work to achieve organizational goals. Purpose: This study aims to examine the impact of different leadership factors, such as leader-member relationships, task structure, and the leader's position power, on the performance of healthcare staff at the Tamalanrea Jaya Health Center in Makassar City. Methods: The study conducted between January and April 2023 at Tamalanrea Jaya Health Center involved a population of 37 health workers who were selected using the total sampling technique. The research method employed was a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach. The data analysis techniques used were univariate and bivariate, and the tests applied were the Fisher exact test and contingency coefficient test. Results: The study's findings revealed that the performance of healthcare professionals at Tamalanrea Jaya Health Center was associated with three factors: leader-member relationship (p=0.001), task structure (p=0.012), and the leader's power position (p=0.005). Conclusion: The performance of healthcare workers at the Tamalanrea Jaya Health Center in Makassar City is correlated with leader-member relations, task structure, and the power of the leader's position. It is recommended for leaders to improve supervision and evaluation related to discipline and timeliness of entering employee working hours

Personalized Precision Medicine for Health Care Professionals: Development of a Competency Framework

Personalized precision medicine represents a paradigm shift and a new reality for the health care system in Spain, with training being fundamental for its full implementation and application in clinical practice. In this sense, health care professionals face educational challenges related to the acquisition of competencies to perform their professional practice optimally and efficiently in this new environment. The definition of competencies for health care professionals provides a clear guide on the level of knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to adequately carry out their professional practice. In this context, this acquisition of competencies by health care professionals can be defined as a dynamic and longitudinal process by which they use knowledge, skills, attitudes, and good judgment associated with their profession to develop it effectively in all situations corresponding to their field of practice. This report aims to define a proposal of essential knowledge domains and common competencies for all health care professionals, which are necessary to optimally develop their professional practice within the field of personalized precision medicine as a fundamental part of the medicine of the future. Based on a benchmark analysis and the input and expertise provided by a multidisciplinary group of experts through interviews and workshops, a new competency framework that would guarantee the optimal performance of health care professionals was defined. As a basis for the development of this report, the most relevant national and international competency frameworks and training programs were analyzed to identify aspects that are having an impact on the application of personalized precision medicine and will be considered when developing professional competencies in the future. This report defines a framework made up of 58 competencies structured into 5 essential domains: determinants of health, biomedical informatics, practical applications, participatory health, and bioethics, along with a cross-cutting domain that impacts the overall performance of the competencies linked to each of the above domains. Likewise, 6 professional profiles to which this proposal of a competency framework is addressed were identified according to the area where they carry out their professional activity: health care, laboratory, digital health, community health, research, and management and planning. In addition, a classification is proposed by progressive levels of training that would be advisable to acquire for each competency according to the professional profile. This competency framework characterizes the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required by health care professionals for the practice of personalized precision medicine. Additionally, a classification by progressive levels of training is proposed for the 6 professional profiles identified according to their professional roles.

A Vermont Statewide Educational Intervention to Improve Access to Hepatitis C Virus Treatment in a Rural State.

Improved knowledge of hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening, linkage to care, and treatment is needed among nonspecialist medical professionals to combat the HCV epidemic. The authors sought to implement and analyze the impact of an HCV curriculum for primary care professionals (PCPs) across the state of Vermont, USA. This investigation was a retrospective analysis of uptake of a Vermont HCV educational curriculum and its impact on HCV direct-acting antiviral (DAA) prescribing rates within the state before and after the study period. The curriculum was delivered online and in-person over 2 years from 2019 to 2020. The primary outcome was health care professional performance on a pre- and post-curriculum short-term knowledge assessment exam. The secondary outcome was assessing the number of unique healthcare professionals within a single payor database prescribing DAA treatment for HCV in Vermont before and after the study intervention, from January 1, 2017 until December 1, 2021. There were 31 unique respondents on the pre- and post-intervention examinations, which represented 9% of known participants. Respondents included physicians (n = 15), nurse practitioners (n = 8), and nurses (n = 8). Pre- and post-intervention knowledge scores increased significantly across all provider groups, from 3.2 (SD 0.6) to 4.5 (SD 0.4) 1 to 5 scale (P = .01). The total number of unique HCV DAA therapy prescribers decreased over the study period, from 17 in 2017 to 9 in 2021. A Vermont statewide HCV curriculum for PCPs was successful at increasing short-term HCV-related knowledge. However, this did not obviously translate to an increase in new professionals treating HCV.

Analysis of organizational culture factors that influence the performance of health care professionals: A literature review.

Hospitals in today's healthcare system are under pressure to boost their competitiveness. A number of studies have shown the disconnect between corporate culture and the enhancement of healthcare professionals' performance. While it is well accepted that an organization's culture has a substantial impact on the performance of its health care professionals in clinical practice, the mechanisms by which culture might enhance health care professionals' performance remain unclear. This paper draws on 22 literature reviews and database searches using keyword syntax from Sciencedirect, Pubmed, Google Schoolar, and other relevant publications published between 2011 and 2021. Research in the field demonstrates that a company's culture may influence the efficiency and effectiveness of its healthcare employees. This overarching issue was dissected into the following themes: nurse performance mediated by discipline; the existence of cultural groups; a central focus on health care professional management; and individual, organizational, and psychological aspects. The optimal performance of nurses and the outcomes of patient care are contingent on management in the health care business knowing the cultural factors that exist in the workplace.

The Educational Impact of Web-Based, Faculty-Led Continuing Medical Education Programs in Type 2 Diabetes: A Survey Study to Analyze Changes in Knowledge, Competence, and Performance of Health Care Professionals.

BackgroundThe treatment landscape for type 2 diabetes (T2D) is continually evolving; therefore, ongoing education of health care professionals (HCPs) is essential. There is growing interest in measuring the impact of educational activities, such as through use of the Moore framework; however, data on the benefits of continuing medical education (CME) in the management of T2D remain limited.ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate HCP satisfaction; measure improvements in knowledge, competence, and performance following short, case-based, multidisciplinary web-based CME activities; and identify the remaining educational gaps.MethodsTwo faculty-led, CME-accredited, web-based educational activities on T2D and obesity, touchIN CONVERSATION and touch MultiDisciplinary Team, were developed and made available on a free-to-access medical education website. Each activity comprised 3 videos lasting 10 to 15 minutes, which addressed learning objectives developed based on a review of published literature and faculty feedback. Participant satisfaction (Moore level 2) was evaluated using a postactivity questionnaire. For both activities, changes in knowledge and competence (Moore levels 3 and 4) were assessed using questionnaires completed by representative HCPs before or after participation in the activities. A second set of HCPs completed a questionnaire before and after engaging in activities that assessed changes in self-reported performance (Moore level 5).ResultsEach activity was viewed by approximately 6000 participants within 6 months. The participants expressed high levels of satisfaction (>80%) with both activities. Statistically significant improvements from baseline in knowledge and competence were reported following participation in touchIN CONVERSATION (mean score, SD before vs after activity: 4.36, 1.40 vs 5.42, 1.37; P<.001), with the proportion of learners answering at least six of 7 questions correctly, increasing from 22% (11/50) to 60% (30/50). A nonsignificant improvement in knowledge and competence was observed following participation in touch MultiDisciplinary Team (mean score, SD 4.36, 1.24 vs 4.58, 1.07; P=.35); however, baseline knowledge and competence were relatively high, where 80% of the respondents (40/50) answered at least four of 6 questions correctly. A significant improvement in HCP self-reported performance was observed in a combined analysis of both activities (mean score, SD 2.65, 1.32 vs 3.15, 1.26; P=.03), with the proportion of learners selecting the answer representing the best clinical option for all 4 questions increasing from 32% (11/34) to 59% (20/34) after the activity. Several unmet educational needs were self-reported or identified from the analysis of incorrectly answered questions, including setting individualized glycemic targets and the potential benefits of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor therapies.ConclusionsShort, case-based, web-based CME activities designed for HCPs to fit their clinical schedules achieved improvements in knowledge, competence, and self-reported performance in T2D management. Ongoing educational needs identified included setting individualized glycemic targets and the potential benefits of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor therapies.

Effect of hydroxyurea on quality of life with a moderating role of healthcare professionals’ performance: A view from the beta-thalassemia patients.

Background: Transfusion-dependent (TDT) β –Thalassemia patients have lower HRQoL than healthy individuals. The impact of Hydroxyurea is always measured with the clinical investigations in terms of laboratory diagnosis. This study aimed to seek out the impact of the drug Hydroxyurea on improving physical health problems of Quality of Life (QoL) of β – Thalassemia patients with the moderating role of healthcare professionals. Methodology: In this research, a deductive approach was adopted whereby hypotheses were originated first, followed by organizing a well-structured questionnaire as a tool for measuring the data. The nature of the research was explanatory and based on primary quantitative data. The data was collected from 290 patients visited in the outpatient and daycare departments of the National Institute of Blood Diseases and Bone Marrow Transplantation Hospital. Results: This study revealed that the impact of Hydroxyurea therapy on improving the physical health problems of Beta Thalassemia is not evident as per the analysis (r=0.079; p=0.178). Similarly, a weak positive non-significant correlation exists between Hydroxyurea therapy and the performance of healthcare professionals in the hospital (r=0.016; p=0.782). Moreover, no significant improvement was observed in physical health problems and health domain of QoL of BT patients by moderating the role of healthcare professional performance (p=0.4471 and 0.4102, respectively). Conclusion: It is concluded that moderating the role of healthcare professionals' performance does not improve the impact of Hydroxyurea on physical health problems and domains of QoL of β – Thalassemia patients.

The Mediating Role of Perceived Organizational Support in the Impact of Work Engagement on Job Performance

In the 21st century, many scientific discoveries and treatments that science offers to humanity in the health sector, as well as many negative developments that it has created on the sector and employees cannot be ignored. Along with the Covid-19 pandemic, the heavy workload in the health sector and the risks in the working environment have created an important source of stress for the employees. This has affected employees’ work engagement and job performance. Employees need more organizational support in their workplaces in order to increase service quality and ensure organizational success. In the study, the mediating role of perceived organizational support in the relationship between work engagement and job performance of healthcare professionals working under heavy workload and stress was investigated. In accordance with the research purpose, a questionnaire was applied to the hospital staff in Istanbul (n = 402). The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS 23 and AMOS 18 package programs. The results of the analysis show that perceived organizational support has a mediating role in the relationship between work engagement and job performance. The research findings are of a quality that will attract the attention of managers in the health sector. In addition, the findings obtained as a result of the research are a source for further studies on the health sector.

Changes within the scope of criminal liability of healthcare professional as introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic has markedly affected the life of people worldwide. In Poland, one of its consequences consisted in new laws being put into force to regulate the provision of healthcare services. This gave rise to much anxiety and concern within the healthcare community, particularly among the specialists in interventional medicine. Taking into account all signals received by the National Consultant, Voivodeship Consultants, as well as the Association of Polish Surgeons and the Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists, the new regulations negatively affect the performance of healthcare professionals, e.g. in the context of diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making or activities potentially beneficial for patients not being undertaken. The authors of the article have analyzed the regulations in force in an attempt to bring their interpretation into line with their substance and their objective, as well as to provide comprehensive answers to questions and concerns as raised by interventional surgeons.

The effect of CPR educational package on knowledge and performance of nurses working in intensive care units: A review study.

ABSTRACTBecause nurses are present at the bedside of patients with cardiopulmonary arrest at the earliest opportunity, they should be sufficiently skilled in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Since 1980s, several studies have been performed on the skill of CPR. These studies showed the effect of the presence of trained people on the outcome of resuscitation, so the results of one of these studies indicated that the presence of a more skilled person can have a dramatic effect on the outcome of resuscitation. Researchers believe that each training leads to learning, but the depth and stability of learning are different in various teaching methods. Recent Studies have examined the effectiveness of various educational programs in creating sustainable learning. One of the most common methods for teaching CPR is the workshop method, which has been used in nursing since 1941. Considering the importance of the subject and the need to study the effect of training courses on the level of knowledge and CPR performance of health care professionals, especially nurses, the present study aimed to review the effect of training package on knowledge and CPR performance of nurses working in intensive care units (ICU). A review of the literature showed that the level of knowledge and performance of nurses about CPR increased significantly after training compared to before training. However, most nurses perform CPR based on old protocols, it is necessary to express these changes during retraining courses. In addition, due to the decrease in the level of knowledge and skills, it is necessary to repeat these courses overtime.

Linkage between performance of healthcare professionals and management practices in health care organizations.

The performance of healthcare professionals is now becoming a great apprehension for health care organizations to deliver quality services. Therefore, organizations are considering management practices to effectively manage their human resource, as they are an essential resource to deliver services through their performance. The objective of the current paper was to describe the link between management practices and performance of healthcare professionals in healthcare setup. In addition, based on the review, it has been found that recruitment & selection, training & development, performance appraisal along with compensation, practices of health and safety, as well as, flexible working hours play a crucial role in the enhancement of employee performance, whereas ineffective execution of these practices has a negative influence on the performance of healthcare professionals. Thus, the management of the health care segment should focus on the timely and fair implementation of the above-mentioned management practices in order to improve the performance of their employed personnel.

The Internet of Things is described as a single Internet connection that allows switching data network physical devices. These devices are not necessarily complex technical progress. However, it simplifies the process and allows healthcare professionals timely complete tasks. Focus on healthcare and technology companies tend to invest a lot of money in the Internet of Things. Today, most high-tech equipments have some form of connection, from wearable devices (such as biological sensors) to have a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth X-ray equipment. IoT-enabled medical devices provide essential data to support the performance of health care professionals. Corticosteroids reduce inflammation in various diseases and immune activation standard therapy. However, like other potent drugs, it is not without side effects. Glucocorticoid-related side effects may be related to most of the major organ systems. All musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, endocrine, neurological psychiatry, dermatology, eye diseases and immune system side effects may occur. Glucocorticoid treatment with various side effects, but careful monitoring and appropriate prevention strategies may minimize these side effects. Doctors need to enable patients to understand these data and determine the most appropriate for their prevention and treatment options.

Conflict Management and Performance of Health Care Professionals in Teaching Hospitals in Rivers State

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to conflict management and performance of health care professionals in Teaching Hospitals in Rivers State.&#x0D; Methodology: The study used a cross sectional research design involving medical doctors, nurses, medical laboratory scientists and pharmacists in University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and Rivers State University Teaching Hospital. A Multi-stage sampling was employed to select 165 healthcare professionals from both hospitals. The reliability of the instrument was achieved by the use of the Cronbach Alpha coefficient with all the items scoring above 0.70. The hypotheses were tested using the Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficient with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 23.0. The tests were carried out at a 95% confidence interval and a 0.05 level of significance.&#x0D; Findings: Results from analysis of data revealed that conflict management significantly predict performance of health care professionals in Teaching Hospitals in Rivers State.&#x0D; Recommendation: The study recommends that health care professionals’ collaboration should be adopted in Teaching Hospitals. This includes sharing of patient information, joint participation in the care and in the decision-making process, and degree of cooperation, must be carefully scrutinized and implemented with the added input of nurses, physicians and other paramedics.

Examining Causal Relationships of Tangible and Intangible Drivers Influencing Performance Assessment and Impacting Job Satisfaction Curve of Healthcare Professionals. A Study Done at Rashid Hospital, a Government Healthcare Facility in the U.A.E

Over the years, many studies have been conducted to comprehend the value of job fulfilment and the impact it has on the employee’s job performance. To be able to grasp this concept in the healthcare sector which is remarkably hectic, demanding and time sensitive, the performance of healthcare professionals is key. The cause being that job performance from healthcare professionals are correlated to facets such as efficiency, experience, management and quality which are all interlinked with the safety and well-being of the patients. Hence, the main goal of this research is to recognize the tangible and intangible drivers of job satisfaction and the impact it has on the healthcare professional’s performance. This study was carried out with a deductive approach with methods of both qualitative and quantitative which aided in finding out the literature gap currently present in the healthcare sector. As this study was conducted during the pandemic, the researcher was able to attain 68% of responses out of the 100%. However, with the pandemic, the researcher was able to unravel new variables of job satisfaction amongst healthcare professionals. Multiple theories and models of job satisfaction and job performance were tested to see which one applies to the Rashid hospital, Dubai, UAE. By figuring out the challenges faced by the healthcare professional with and without the pandemic allows the researcher and management team to build improvement plans.With multiple pie charts, bar charts and a 5-point Likert Scale Analysis Method, ranking and prioritizing the tangible and intangible drivers of job satisfaction amongsthealthcare professionalshelped to understand the level of impact their current employment has to their performance. With demonstration of summary output, regression analysis, residual output, R square and adjusted R square represents a pure study and validation of results. With the P value being &lt;0.05 proves that this study is significantly strong.By adding theoretical debates on whether job satisfaction impacts job performance, this study concludes that this is a multifaceted concept and with the appropriate variables and methods, enhancing the performance will be at an advantage. Therefore, it is recommended that healthcare management team provides support in all aspects of the variables to improve the healthcare professional’s performance and ultimately increase the well-being of the patients.

It has also to check connection in work devotion, disappointment by not full fill it anticipated goals and shadow on actions. Methods: It is a quantitative co- relational research design was designed on 142 people of children hospital and ICH Lahore , using adopted questionnaires with questions on work alienation ,work engagement and work performance . A data were analyzed using SPSS (statistical package for social science studies) version 21. Results: 142 questionnaires were distributed among people of children hospital and ICH Lahore. Most of the respondents were 25 to 35 years of age. Majority respondents show positive relationship towards work engagement and negative association with work alienation. Conclusion : The current study results showed that people of children hospital have good knowledge about the value of work engagement and work alienation in the criteria of work performance areas. A Conceptual Visibility Framework for Linking Spatial Metrics With Experience and Organizational Outcomes.

Visibility enables or prohibits healthcare professionals' ability to monitor, control, or manage situations in healthcare settings. Visibility has a significant impact on patient safety, including patient fall rates and mortality rates, and on the performance of healthcare professionals, including situational awareness and communication. This article provides a conceptual visibility framework synthesizing visibility analysis models, tools, and metrics. The framework uses four dimensions that capture the experiential phenomena of users, such as visual relationships between specific sets of users/targets, how the orientation of the seeing entity changes visibility patterns, and the unequal visibility levels of seeing and being seen. The framework particularly focuses on how the layout and the resulting patterns of visibility reflect and influence the user experience and organizational functions. By illustrating the similarities and differences of various models in the framework according to the dimensions, this article describes how various visibility analysis models, tools, and metrics can be applied to design and research.

Behavior Change Techniques in Continuing Professional Development.

Continuing professional development (CPD) is a widely used and evolving set of complex interventions that seeks to update and improve the knowledge, skills, and performance of health care professionals to ultimately improve patient care and outcomes. While synthesized evidence shows CPD in general to be effective, effects vary, in part due to variation in CPD interventions and limited understanding of CPD mechanisms of action. We introduce two behavioral science tools-the Behavior Change Technique Taxonomy version 1 and the Theoretical Domains Framework-that can be used to characterize the content of CPD interventions and the determinants of behaviour potentially targeted by the interventions, respectively. We provide a worked example of the use of these tools in coding the educational content of 43 diabetes quality improvement trials containing clinician education as part of their multicomponent intervention. Fourteen (of a possible 93; 15%) behavior change techniques were identified in the clinician education content of the quality improvement trials, suggesting a focus of addressing the behavioral determinants beliefs about consequences, knowledge, skills, and social influences, of diabetes care providers' behavior. We believe that the Behavior Change Technique Taxonomy version 1 and Theoretical Domains Framework offer a novel lens to analyze the CPD content of existing evidence and inform the design and evaluation of future CPD interventions.
