PEMANFAATAN SAMPAH DAPUR SEBAGAI PUPUK ORGANIK CAIR UNTUK TANAMAN PEKARANGAN DAN HORTIKULTURA DI DESA ILOTIDEA KECAMATAN TILANGO KABUPATEN GORONTALO

The purpose of KKN-T community service activity is to increase the creativity of students and the community of Ilotidea Village in utilizing kitchen waste as the Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) which can increase plant growth in the yardland. In Ilotidea Village, the community is very enthusiastic about utilizing yardland, unfortunately, has not managed kitchen waste as fertilizer that can add nutrients to the growth and production of plants. Benefits: 1) management of kitchen waste as an organic fertilizer manufacturing material, 2) produce LOF for cultivation crop in the yardland. Methods in the form of socialization, training, and applications of making organic fertilizers, vegetable cultivation, and simple planting pattern techniques in the yard. This activity was attended by 14 students of the Department of Agrotechnology and the village community. The results of activities: socialization of the use of kitchen waste as LOF, land use of yards, the exhibition of LOF product products in the village. Additional activities include the management of flood disasters, sports and arts development and the vaccination movement. External in the form of the publication of videos and articles.

Persepsi Petani Terhadap Budidaya Sayuran Organik di Kecamatan Kuta Baro Kabupaten Aceh Besar

This study aims to determine farmers' perceptions of organic vegetable cultivation in Kuta Baro sub-district, Aceh Besar district. The variables in this study include farmers' perceptions of organic vegetable cultivation. In this study the authors used multiple linear regression test. The results showed that the farmers' perception was high with a value category of 80.77%. Based on the perception of farmers in age with a value of 629%. Based on the farmer's perception of the level of education with a value of 418%. Based on the perception of farmers in experience 639%. Based on the perception of farmers in income with a value of 421%. Based on the perception of farmers in land area with a value of 638%. Based on the perception of farmers in access to information with 639%. Based on the perception of farmers in the role of extension workers with a value of 623%. Farmers' perceptions of organic vegetable cultivation in Kuta Baro District, Aceh Besar Regency are in the high category with the other 80.77% being said to have good performance. Based on the multiple linear regression test, the value of R = 0.448, there is a strong relationship with farmers' perceptions of organic vegetable cultivation in Kuta Baro District, Aceh Besar District.

Scope of Organic Farming Vegetable Cultivation

Agriculture began organically. For many centuries, humans farmed without synthetic biocides or inorganic fertilizers, relying on organic fertilizers derived from plants and animals, and protecting crops from pests and diseases using naturally-occurring materials. From the second half of the nineteenth century growers around the world successfully developed and refined farming systems that relied on synthetic biocides or inorganic fertilizers.

Soil Ecological Protection Effects of Earthworm Fertilizer on Pepper Culture and Soil Microorganism

In order to study the application effects of earthworm fertilizer in organic vegetable cultivation, the application field of earthworm fertilizer was expanded. In the study, the earthworm fertilizer suspension of 22 g ·L−1, 44 g ·L−1, 88 g ·L−1 and 440 g ·L−1 were applied to study the effects of earthworm fertilizer of different concentrations on pepper culture and soil microenvironment. The results showed that the morphological and physiological indexes of pepper plants were positively correlated with the concentration of earthworm fertilizer during the same growth period. The plant height, stem diameter, dry and fresh weight above and below ground, chlorophyll content, soluble sugar content, soluble protein content and malondialdehyde content of pepper under the treatment of four concentrations all had promoting effects, and the treatment effect was the most significant at the concentration of 440 g ·L−1. The treatment effect was not obvious at 22 g ·L−1 concentration.

Sensitivity of soil aggregation to soil organic carbon fractions under land-use conversion from rice to organic vegetable cultivation

Conversion of rice-wheat rotation (RWR) to conventional vegetable cultivation, especially vegetable cultivation in plastic sheds, readily causes soil structure degradation, and organic manure is commonly applied to mitigate such degradation. Although many studies have focused on changes in SOC properties or structural soil parameters, additional details about the changes, such as the relationships between SOC fractions and soil aggregates during unique land-use changes, are unknown. Here, we studied the changes in soil aggregation, and SOC parameters in 14-year-old plastic-shed vegetable fields (PVFs) and open-air vegetable fields (OVFs) covered with organic manure, with adjacent RWR fields serving as a control. The vegetable fields were converted from RWR fields. SOC fractions were analyzed by using 13C solid-state NMR spectroscopy, and the aggregate classes were divided as follows: large macro-aggregates (>2 mm), small macro-aggregates (2–0.25 mm), micro-aggregates (0.25–0.053 mm), and silt and clay particles (<0.053 mm). PVFs had higher SOC and MBC than OVFs and RWR fields. In terms of the SOC fractions, the proportion of O-alkyl C decreased as RWR (53.90%) > PVF (43.21%) > OVF (35.37%), in contrast to the trends in the carbonyl C and aromatic C fractions. The aggregate-associated C, especially that associated with large macro-aggregates and micro-aggregates, in the PVFs was highest among the treatments. The O-alkyl C fraction in large macro-aggregates decreased in the order RWR (44.67%) > OVF (35.76%) > PVF (32.40%), consistent with the results for micro-aggregates. Furthermore, there was a significant (P ≤ 0.05) positive relationship between macro-aggregates (>0.25 mm) and the active C fractions, in contrast to the relationships with stable fractions. It suggested that plastic-shed cultivation might have a more positive effect than open-air cultivation on soil structure and the carbon stock when large amounts of organic manure are applied; moreover, the SOC quantity and quality affect soil aggregation differently.

Comparison of the Health Cost of Organic and Conventional Vegetable Cultivation in Getasan Sub-district, Semarang, Indonesia

Environmental damage will disrupt the ecosystem to support life. Unsustainable agriculture can be a source of environmental degradation. Conventional agriculture may have an effect on the environment, thus the participation of various parties in sustainable agriculture is needed. Organic agriculture is developed as an environmentally friendly agricultural cultivation with many benefits. Compared to the attention on occupational health, safety and environmental problems, economic motives receive less attention. This study aims to calculate the costs arising from the health impacts of vegetable cultivation. There were 314 respondents interviewed in this study. There were significant differences in the sickness complaints felt by respondents; organic farmer groups have the potential to incur health costs of Rp. 30,333.33, while the conventional group is higher, with a cost of Rp. 103.303.57 (US$ 7.38). Organic farming has a better impact because it uses natural ingredients and is not bad for health. The potential losses arising from health cases also show a high and significant number (p &lt;0.001).

SAYURAN ORGANIK LAHAN KERING UNTUK PARIWISATA DI DOMPU

This science and technology application was carried out to educate partner farmers (1) “Mada Kabuntu Farmer Group" and (2) "Sinar Rinjani Farmer Group" to increase the production of organic vegetables in dry land. To achieved this goal, training activities and plot demonstration have been carried out. The training method used was the adult education method with participatory techniques. The training participants were members of the farmers group "Mada Kabuntu" and "Sinar Rinjani". Training activities include pre-test, delivery and explanation of modules (with LCD and props), discussion and question and answer. Plot demonstrations and organic vegetable cultivation practices were carried out on farmers' land. Farmers were participatively involved jointly from planning, implementing and evaluating of harvest yield. The activity results showed that the farmers participating in this program were very responsive to the development of organic vegetables on dry land. The participating farmers were actively working together to carried out all phases of activities from training, demonstration plots from planting, plant maintenance and harvesting. The results of these activities indicated that there has been a technology transfer process for developing organic vegetables in the dry land Dompu district.

Pemanfaatan Lahan Pekarangan Untuk Budidaya Sayuran Organik di Desa Kediri Kabupaten Banyumas

The science and technology application activities are planned to be carried out with the partner of the women farmer group located in Kediri Village, Karanglewas District. The problems faced by partners are not having adequate knowledge about natural pest management and the correct use of organic fertilizers; do not have skills in making and using vegetable pesticides, liquid organic fertilizers, and proper organic vegetable cultivation techniques. The purpose of applying science and technology is to provide knowledge about the functions and ways of using vegetable pesticides and liquid organic fertilizers, improving skills in making and using vegetable pesticides, POC, technical complete package of organic vegetable cultivation. Methods for achieving the goal are socialization and learning by doing, which are complemented by guiding and piloting techniques. The output of the service activities is in the form of articles in dedication journals, and articles on appropriate technology (TTG).

The effect of organic and conventional management practices on soil macropore structure in greenhouse vegetable production

AbstractGreenhouse vegetable production (GVP) is developing rapidly and farming practices strongly affect soil quality. However, quantitative evidence of the differences in soil macropore structure between organic and conventional greenhouse vegetable cultivation is still unavailable. In this study, we sampled paired organic and conventional greenhouse vegetable soils from the tilled and plough pan layers at sample sites south of Nanjing, China. Using industrial computed tomography (CT) scanning technology to measure soil macropore characteristics, we examined the effects of different farming practices on soil macropore structure, as well as the main factors that influenced soil macropore characteristics. Organic greenhouse vegetable (OGV) production was associated with a greater quantity and quality of soil macropores compared with conventional greenhouse vegetable (CGV) production. The total macroporosity in the tilled soil layer averaged 16.9% in OGV soils, more than twice that of CGV soils. OGV soils exhibited an improved pore size distribution with a greater relative abundance of transmission pores (50–500 μm) and a decreased relative abundance of large macropores (&gt;1,000 μm). Pore size and shape data suggested that OGV soils had fewer soil cracks but more biopores than CGV soils in the tilled layer, as well as more root biopores in the plough pan layer. Furthermore, macropore morphology was improved in both the tilled and plough pan layers of OGV soils. In particular, macropore connectivity was nearly 10 times greater in the tilled layer of OGV soils. Soil organic matter (SOM) content was the dominant factor influencing most macropore characteristics (total macroporosity, connectivity, and relative porosity of 100–1,000 μm pores, all small macropores and elongated medium macropores). We suggest that greater SOM content and consequently better soil macropore structure in OGV soils was dependent not only on greater organic manure input, but also on the non‐application of chemical fertilizer.Highlights Farm management affects soil macropore structure in greenhouse vegetable production. Compared soil macropore structure in organic and conventional greenhouse vegetable cultivation. OGV had greater quantity and quality of soil macropores than CGV. Greater SOM in organic farming contributed to the better soil macropore structure.

Farmer Empowerment Strategies Through Organic Vegetables Development

&#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; Organic vegetable cultivation system is a system for growing vegetables that is safe for consumption. The aims of this study were to conduct external and internal analysis of Mulyo Santoso Farmers Group Association using SWOT analysis, to find out effective strategies in empowering farmers through vegetable development, and to compile strategies for empowering farmers through organic vegetable development by Mulyo Santoso Farmers Group Association. This study is a descriptive study using quantitative descriptive approach. The data used were primary data obtained through interviews using questionnaires. This research used SWOT analysis method. The sampling technique used was census, using all members of the population as samples. Internal factor analysis results show the acquisition of a strength indicator score of 1.53 and a weak indicator score of 1.04. The results of the analysis on external factors acquisition show the opportunity indicator score of 1.32 and the threat indicator score of 1.20. The resulting value of SWOT diagram analysis on the X axis for internal factors is 0.49 and Y axis on external factors is 0.12. Based on the results of the SWOT analysis, it is known that the strategy used by Mulyo Santoso Farmers Group Association is an aggressive or progressive strategy, by using the power to take advantage of opportunities by creating, producing and developing businesses of processed agricultural products, such as processed chips and catering services of healthy foods, as well as adding more varieties of cultivated vegetables and sell organic fertilizer to supplement the income&#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D;

Influence of management on maintenance and dynamics of carbon in the soil

This work aimed to analyze the dynamics of soil carbon in agricultural areas under different soil management systems and natural ecosystems with Cerrado vegetation. The study was carried out in a grain production area equivalent to soybeans and corn located in the Western region of Bahia State with the adoption of conventional and no-tillage + Brachiaria and vegetable production in the southernmost tip of Piauí State under organic cultivation and vegetable cultivation + no-tillage, besides the native area of ​​the Cerrado. Total organic C content, light organic matter, and soil organic matter were evaluated. Furthermore, the C stock and light organic matter were assessed at four depths (0.0-0.05, 0.05-0.10, 0.10-0, 20, and 0.20-0.40 m). The systems under vegetable cultivation and native area presented the highest levels of C, organic matter, and soil carbon stocks in the superficial layers. However, the NTS + B2 showed higher levels in depth, except for light organic matter. Thus, the content, dynamics, and maintenance of C into the soil are nearly influenced by the management system adopted, both for the lighter fractions of organic matter and the more mineralized forms such as TOC, OSM, and StkC.

Upaya Peningkatan Pengetahuan dan Keterampilan Kelompok Wanita Tani Kenanga Lestari Desa Pucang Banjarnegara tentang Teknik Budidaya Sayuran Hidroponik

EFFORTS TO INCREASE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS KENANGA LESTARI WOMEN’S FARMER’S GROUP OF PUCANG VILLAGE BANJARNEGARA ABOUT HYDROPONIC VEGETABLES TECHNIQUE. Kenanga Lestari Women's Farmers Group is the only group consisting of 20 farmer women in Pucang Village, Banjarnegara. The farmer women's group continues to exist to develop verticulture of organic vegetable cultivation by utilizing home yards since 2017. Since the beginning the caretaker and members of the farmer women's group still have limited knowledge and skills, especially about hydroponic vegetable cultivation techniques. The aim of the activity is to transfer science and technology about the cultivation of hydroponic vegetables in an effort to increase the knowledge and skills of farm women groups. It is also intended to encourage increased income and welfare of farmer women groups. The method used includes 3 methods, namely; (a) public education methods through extension activities on hydroponic systems and hydroponic vegetable cultivation techniques; (b) science and technology diffusion methods through training activities on hydroponic vegetable cultivation techniques; (c) advocacy method that is to provide assistance at the end of the activity. The results of the activity showed that the knowledge and skills of the administrators and members of the Kenanga Lestari farmer group increased from previous conditions regarding organic vegetable cultivation techniques.

Potential for Vegetable Production Towards Food Security in Arabian Peninsula: A Case Study of Oman

Introduction: In Oman, the weather is not conducive to year-round cultivation of vegetables. However, these are dual-purpose commodities because they can be grown to achieve food security goals as well as serve as cash crops that generate employment and income. Increasing vegetable production in Oman has the potential to contribute to the government’s economic diversification efforts. Technical efficiency analysis for selected crops indicated the ability to improve crops’ production with the present state of technology in-line with regional food security objectives. Materials and Methods: Relevant documents about cultivating vegetables in terms of area, production, price structure, and other factors were extensively researched, analyzed, and presented in tables and figures to show their present and future trends. Researchers surveyed about 118 randomly selected farms across Oman. They also evaluated Technical Efficiency (TE) using a Trans-Logarithmic function (TL) and Cobb Douglas (CD) function with SHAZAM comprehensive economics and statistics package to achieve meaningful results. Results: The results include retrospective analysis of area and production of different vegetables cultivated in Oman and their import and export, their price, and its potential increase in vegetable production in Oman for economic diversification in domestic consumption and export markets. They also identified trends in organic vegetable cultivation, and sales showed the potential to increase production levels and assist government efforts to increase agriculture’s contribution to the gross domestic product of Oman. Technical efficiency for tomato in selected samples indicated the ability to improve production beyond 20% with the present state of technology. Conclusion: Analysis of data on ordinary vegetable cultivation established that the outlook for global vegetable supply and demand is attractive. The global demand for vegetables, is increasing and will continue to do so. Moreover, growth is especially strong in demand for organic vegetables in wealthier countries such as Switzerland, Sweden, and the United Arab Emirates. Technical efficiency analysis indicated a potential increase in the production of vegetables with the present state of technology.

The Effects of Farmyard Manure and Green Manure Applications on Some Soil Physical Properties

In this research was carried out to determine the effects of farmyard manure and green manure applications on some physical soil properties in an organic vegetable cultivation field. The effects of control (C), farmyard manure (FYM) (35 t ha-1) and green manure (GM) applications on some soil physical properties (Soil water characteristics (0.001, 0.1, 0.33, 1, 5, 10 and 15 bar), available water capacity, porosity and bulk density) were investigated for soil depths of 0-10 and 10-20 cm and for two years. In the study at all tension values, the highest volumetric soil water content was obtained for FYM application and the lowest volumetric soil water content for C application. The highest total porosity with macro and micro porosity were found in the FYM application and the lowest total porosity with macro and micro porosity were found in the application C. The available water capacity was the highest in the GM application and the lowest in the C application. In addition, the highest bulk density was found in C application and the lowest bulk density was found in FYM application. These results showed that the effects of different organic material applications on soil physical properties are important.

Organic Vegetable Cultivation Reduces Resource and Environmental Costs While Increasing Farmers’ Income in the North China Plain

Organic cultivation has been promoted in recent years as a possible alternative to conventional cultivation in order to reduce environmental burdens and nonrenewable resource use. However, a comprehensive assessment of the sustainability of different vegetable cultivation modes is currently lacking. In this study, a combined use of economic analysis (ECA), emergy analysis (EMA), and lifecycle assessment (LCA) was conducted to evaluate the economic performance, resource use, and environmental impacts of three greenhouse eggplant production modes, namely conventional (CON), low-input (LOW), and organic (ORG) cultivation. ECA results showed that the economic profit and value to cost ratio of ORG increased by 14%–17% and 36%–41% compared with CON and LOW, respectively. EMA results showed that ORG had higher resource use efficiency. The unit emergy value and emergy sustainability index of ORG increased by 37%–49% and 45%–65% than those of CON and LOW, respectively. LCA results revealed lower potential environmental impacts for ORG, and its total potential environment impact index was 80%–91% lower than that of CON and LOW. These results showed that organic vegetable cultivation reduced resource and environmental costs while increasing farmers’ income, which is the most sustainable vegetable production mode in the North China Plain.

Assessment of soil aggregation properties after conversion from rice to greenhouse organic cultivation on SOC controlling mechanism

Organic manure is beneficial for macro-aggregate formation and soil organic carbon (SOC), but how SOC change in aggregate fractions in time-series is still uncertain. Moreover, greenhouse systems converted from cereal fields quickly faced soil degradation. Thus, the role of organic manure here should be discussed. The main objectives of this study were to determine the change of SOC fractions in bulk soil and aggregation level affected by long-term organic manure application. Using 13C solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, we investigated the SOC and its fraction changes within bulk soil and aggregate fractions under 1-year, 9-year, and 14-year organic greenhouse vegetable cultivation, and we also analysed the soil properties of rice-wheat rotation (RWR) fields as the control. Soil aggregate samples were wet sieved into large macro-aggregates (> 2 mm), small macro-aggregates (2–0.25 mm), micro-aggregates (0.053–0.25 mm), and silt and clay particles (<0.053 mm). The proportion of large macro-aggregates increased significantly (P ≤ 0.05) from 1.68 to 7.76% during the 14-year organic cultivation period. Similar trends could also be found in SOC and its fractions. Specifically, the O-alkyl C increased fastest by 14.5 g kg−1 over these years, but its proportion decreased. The change in aggregate associated C was concentrated on large macro-aggregates and micro-aggregates. Pearson’s correlation suggested that there was a non-significant relation between SOC and soil aggregation, while the soil aggregate associated C had a significantly positive relationship with SOC and its fraction amounts. However, the proportion of O-alkyl C was less; the aggregation associated C was higher. This study has shown the different effects of SOC fractions on soil aggregation and aggregate associated C in organic greenhouse vegetable fields. The stable C fractions might show contribution in soil aggregate associated C than active C fractions. It might improve our knowledge about how organic manure may influence soil aggregation by increasing SOC after a long-term greenhouse vegetable plantation.

Non-Chemical Weed Management in Vegetables by Using Cover Crops: A Review

Vegetables are a substantial part of our lives and possess great commercial and nutritional value. Weeds not only decrease vegetable yield but also reduce their quality. Non-chemical weed control is important both for the organic production of vegetables and achieving ecologically sustainable weed management. Estimates have shown that the yield of vegetables may be decreased by 45%–95% in the case of weed–vegetable competition. Non-chemical weed control in vegetables is desired for several reasons. For example, there are greater chances of contamination of vegetables by herbicide residue compared to cereals or pulse crops. Non-chemical weed control in vegetables is also needed due to environmental pollution, the evolution of herbicide resistance in weeds and a strong desire for organic vegetable cultivation. Although there are several ways to control weeds without the use of herbicides, cover crops are an attractive choice because these have a number of additional benefits (such as soil and water conservation) along with the provision of satisfactory and sustainable weed control. Several cover crops are available that may provide excellent weed control in vegetable production systems. Cover crops such as rye, vetch, or Brassicaceae plants can suppress weeds in rotations, including vegetables crops such as tomato, cabbage, or pumpkin. Growers should also consider the negative effects of using cover crops for weed control, such as the negative allelopathic effects of some cover crop residues on the main vegetable crop.

Application of agroindustrial organic yard for organic vegetable cultivation

The availability of organic vegetables is still low because it needs a quite large yard to cultivate. The system of organic yard utilizes the available yard as a place to cultivate organic vegetables. The application of organic yard aims to increase the total production of organic vegetables with a very limited yard, and even it can be applied in the home yard. The method that uses to applicate organic yard is counseling and coaching how to applicate organic yard to people society as the target. The output of organic yard is the availability of organic vegetables which can be marketed as fresh or processed vegetable products. A housewife can applicate this method to supply the daily needs of organic vegetables as an application of organic healthy lifestyle.

Peningkatan Kreativitas Mahasiswa Dan Pemuda Dalam Mengembangkan Tanaman Sayuran Hidroponik Organik

The objectives of this community service activity are 1) encouraging students and young farmers to master agricultural technology, 2) developing students' creativity in organic vegetable cultivation with hydroponic technology innovation, 3) utilizing organic waste such as animal manure, crop residues in the form of rice straw, sawdust , husk charcoal, as a medium for organic fertilizer, 4) providing direct practice on how to make simple hydroponics, the importance of maintaining soil fertility for plants, and entrepreneurship. Methods in the forming of direct application practice regarding making organic fertilizers, cultivating vegetables, and techniques for making simple hydroponics. The locations of the activities are in the villages of Tunggulo, Tungulo Selatan, and Bongoime, Tilong Kabila District, Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province. This activity was attended by 34 students’ participants from the Department of Agrotechnology and other departments at State University of Gorontalo and collaborated with young farmers, held for 40 days from September 8 to October 10, 2020. The results of the activity showed that community service activities in partner villages were carried out running well and according to the planned program. Students and young farmers have succeeded in developing hydroponic manufacturing techniques with vegetable commodities and organic growing media that use compost of manure and husk charcoal

ITK adoption pattern of organic farming in Tamil Nadu for the management of shoot and fruit borer, Leucinodesorbonalis Guenee in brinjal crop

Brinjal, Solanum melongena L, is a commercial grown vegetable crop cultivated by the farmers since several years. Farmers relay mainly on pesticides for the management of L. orbonalis, one of the major destructive pest of brinjal. The awareness among the farmers is increasing day by day for organic farming and organic produce, the area under organic farming is in expanding stage in different state in India. The present study was taken to document and to understand the ITK practices of farmers growing organic brinjal in different districts in Tamil Nadu. Majority of the farmers 65.42 per cent who are practicing farmers are medium category land holding of 2 to 10 hectare and 86.70 per cent of farmers interview depend organic agriculture as main source of Income. Use of 14 different soil amendments/ foliar spray to meet out the nutrient requirement of the organic brinjal crop. The cow based ITK product Panchagavya is a major source of nutrient substitute used by 73 percent of the farmers. They use around 14 different ITK concoctions in rotation for the management of L. orbonalis. Most commonly used ITK concoctions were Meenamilam (10 ml /lit),Neem oil (2ml/ lit), Ginger-Garlic extracts (5ml/ lit), Ten leaf extract (16.4%) moor karaisal (100ml/ lit) pungam oil (30ml/lit), tobacco leaf extract (30ml / lit) Agniasthiram (30ml/ lit) and Neemastram (25ml/ lit). A Meenamilam ITK concoctions used by 75 per cent of the farmers across the Tamil Nadu. The present study indicates availability of an array of ITK concoctions used by the organic farmers for the management of L. orbonalis in brinjal. The information generated in the present study will be useful in designing organic IPM module for the pest management in brinjal and organic vegetable cultivation in general.
