A sensitivity-enhanced micro-cavity extrinsic fiber-optic Fabry-Perot interferometric curvature sensor was proposed and demonstrated. Experiments showed that the fiber-optic sensor can have a high wavelength shift sensitivity of -5.9606 nm/m−1 and a low temperature curvature cross-sensitivity of 9.9695 × 10-3 m-1/℃ in a curvature range of 2−14 m-1. The fiber-optic curvature sensor was composed of two vertically cut single-mode fibers inserted into opposite ends of a long glass capillary to form a micro-cavity. Both the short cavity and the long active capillary contributed to the sensitivity enhancement.
