100氣壓以上の氣壓下に於てニッケル觸媒を用ふる脂油の硬化反應に於ては,觸媒擔體の及ぼす影響はこれを最普通の珪藻土と比較すると木節粘土,蛙目粘土,活性白土,カオリン,滑石,黄土,鞁馬粘土等は何れも大體珪藻土と似た程度の性能を有し,珪藻土よりは稍強力なるもの,稍弱いものもあるが特に取り立てゝ述べる程度ではない.唯活性白土は最も強い影響を與へた.ボーキサイトは結果が珪藻土よりは悪く豫期に反した.ベントナイトは珪藻土よりは稍佳良な影響があるやうであるが,生成後硬化油の外觀が稍亜透明のやうになつて丁度水素添加還元法で脂肪屬高級アルコールを製收する場合に生成物が持つてゐる高級アルコール樣(或はケトン?)の臭氣を有して居たことは注目に價する.それでアセチル價を測定したるにアセチル價は小であつたがその外貌臭氣から高級アルコール類の生成は察知出來る又鹸化價が低下してゐることから不鹸化物(炭化水素)が出來てゐることが認められる.尚ベントナイトを用ひた場合は硬化油と觸媒を分別するときの漏過操作が短時間で濟む得點がある.觸媒擔體としては珪藻土でなくとも本邦諸處に應ずる粘土も差支へなく使用出來ることは興味あり而してベントナイトは我國でも近來諸所に産するからその觸媒擔體としての使用は更に研究し又吟味考慮すべきであると思ふ.
