The study of potato hybrids in the Kola North

The article presents data on the study of potato varieties (2020–2022) in the Murmansk region on the basis of an integrated scientific research institution Murmansk State Agricultural Experimental Station – a branch of the VIR. In the trial dig, the hybrid 211/1 was isolated, which exceeded in all main indicators (yield, marketability, mass of tubers from one bush, mass of one tuber) the standard sample – the most adapted to the conditions of the Kola North (variety Elizabeth). There were good results in the main cleaning in terms of marketability: in 2020: hybrid 211/1 – 98.9%, hybrid 114/11 – 98.6, hybrid 2103/7 – 99.4, hybrid 211/9 – 99.4%; in 2021. – 211/1 – 98,1, 114/11 – 96,3, 2103/7 – 98,4, 211/9 – 99,1%; in 2022. -211/1 – 99,5, 114/11 – 99,8, 2103/7 – 99,2, 211/9 – 99%. In 2020 and 2021, the hybrid 211/1 stood out among the other four in terms of yield, marketability, weight of tubers from one bush, weight of one tuber. In 2022, hybrids 114/11 and 211/9 had the best yields. The mass of one tuber in the main harvest in 2022 for the hybrid 114/11 is 126.3 g (more than the standard). According to the maturation time, all samples are close to the standard. According to the research results, the most adapted hybrid 114/11 can be recommended to the population of the northern region.

The article examines the history of the preparation of the monograph of the Murmansk historian I. F. Ushakov "Kola land". The book became the final study of the pre-Soviet history of the Kola North, bringing its author well-deserved recognition. The article pays attention to the circumstances of the preparation of this study, the role of institutions (Murmansk Book Publishing House), structures (Department of History of the Murmansk State Pedagogical Institute) and personalities in the implementation of the creative idea. A significant role in the preparation of the book was played by the scientific cooperation of I. F. Ushakov and I. P. Shaskolsky.

Results of testing potato varieties in the European North

Relevance. Potato varieties Eurasia and Onezhskiy were developed as a result of cooperation between the Murmansk State Agricultural Experiment Station – branch of the VIR and the Leningrad Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture "Belogorka" and were included in the State Register of the Russian Federation in 2014 (Onezhsky) and in 2017 (Eurasia). To determine the prospects for cultivation in the Kola North, the varieties were tested in the conditions of the Murmansk region.Materials and methods. The research was carried out on the experimental field of the Murmansk State Agricultural Experiment Station – branch of the VIR in 2018-2020. Potato varieties Eurasia and Onezhskiy were obtained from the Leningrad Research Institute of Agriculture "Belogorka". The plot in the experiment included 4 rows of 15 tubers in each row. The planting pattern is 70x35 cm. Repetition – four times. The location of the plots is systematic with the plots being shifted along tiers. Early maturity was assessed using one test coping on the 70th day after planting. The Elizabeth variety was used as a standard. The results were processed using the method of analysis of variance according to Dospekhov.Results. The research results showed that the Onezhsky variety is distinguished by high starchiness, non-darkening flesh and good taste, is resistant to pathogens: Synchytrium endobioticum (Schilbersky) Percival, Streptomyces scabies (Thaxter), Globodera rostochiensis (Wollenweber) Behrens, relatively resistant to Phytophthora infestans (Mont . De Bary), is weakly affected by Potato virus Y (PVY), Potato leaf roll virus (PLRV). The Onezhsky variety, on average, over three years of research exceeded the standard sample in terms of yield and plant productivity. The Eurasia variety has high starchy content, good taste, culinary type B, is resistant to pathogens: Potato virus Y (PVY), Potato leaf roll virus (PLRV), Globodera rostochiensis (Wollenweber) Behrens, Synchytrium endobioticum (Schilbersky) Percival, moderately susceptible to Phytophthora infestans (Mont. De Bary). The Eurasia variety also exceeded the standard sample in terms of yield and plant productivity. Thus, the Onezhsky and Eurasia potato varieties are recommended for cultivation in the Kola North.

Shaping the Country’s Cultural Sovereignty: Murmansk Hosted the All-Russian Library Congress

June 10—17 in Murmansk, the Library Capital of Russia 2023, the All-Russian Library Congress: XXVII Annual Conference of the Russian Library Association (RLA) took place. The event was supported by the Government of the Murmansk Region. The Congress was attended by 957 delegates from 68 regions of Russia.The professional programme included two plenary sessions and 57 sectional and special events with 634 presentations. The Congress was held under the sign of two significant dates — the 85th anniversary of the Murmansk Region and the 85th anniversary of the Murmansk State Regional Universal Scientific Library. The grand opening and the first plenary session took place on June 12 2023 on the Day of Russia. On June 13 and 14 2023 the work continued at the breakout sessions. The results of the congress were summed up at the final plenary session on June 15 2023.The relevance of the main theme of the Congress “Library — the cultural code of Russia” is connected with the state cultural policy and the tasks set for libraries. The definition of the cultural code of Russia is conditioned by the need to consolidate the citizens of the country on the basis of a common system of values, the formation of cultural sovereignty. The issues of implementation of one of the core documents of the library industry — “Strategy for the librarianship development in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030” were raised. The work of libraries in new social and geopolitical conditions was analyzed. The “Model Regulations on the Organisation of Research Activities of the Central Library of the Subject of the Russian Federation” was adopted.

Limitation Period for Enforcing Arbitral Awards in Nigeria: A Case of Justice Without Remedy

Alexander K. Portsel (1953—2023) and his Magnum Opus about Spitsbergen

The publication is dedicated to the research of the Russian historian and Spitsbergen scientist Alexander Konstantinovich Portsel (1953—2023). The results of his long-standing research work A. K. Porzel summed up in the monograph “Shpiczbergen: politika, e`konomika, obshhestvo (XX v. — nachalo XXI v.)” [“Spitsbergen: politics, economics, society (20th — early 21st centuries)”], published in 2022 by the Murmansk State Technical University publishing house. In this solid work, the author focuses on determining the international legal status of the Spitsbergen archipelago in historical retrospect, the delimitation of the adjacent maritime spaces during the 20th — early 21st centuries, economic activity on the archipelago and in its waters, as well as the social development of both the Russian settlements of “Arktikugol” and the Norwegian community on Spitsbergen.

Automated systems for monitoring microclimate parameters and electricity metering of an experimental building

The Arctic is a strategically important region for Russia. In the process of searching for new solutions for the rapid construction of energy-efficient and safe buildings in the Arctic, it is necessary to develop systems for monitoring and maintaining indoor microclimate, ensuring optimal use of resources and implementing building management systems. Continuous automatic monitoring will help to increase comfort and safety in the room, as well as reduce energy consumption. The possibility of remote data transmission will allow you to quickly respond to emergencies and take actions to prevent the development of accidents. The article presents the results of the development and testing of a software and hardware complex based on a model object on the territory of the Murmansk State Technical University. The development and research of systems for automated monitoring of microclimate parameters and electricity metering of a model object in Murmansk has been carried out. The results of the study of the parameters of the deviation of temperature indicators are presented. The parameters of the deviation of the indicators of the humidity control system from the sensors are determined. A comparative analysis of the total electricity consumption of the model object for the main consumers of the log part and the frame part was carried out.

Employees and students of the Department of Automation and Computer Engineering of the Murmansk State Technical University have carried out the development and testing of a software and hardware complex based on a model object on the University territory. At the first stage, a group of researchers has developed a system for automated monitoring of microclimate parameters and an automated system for electric energy metering. The paper presents a detailed description of the functionality of the developed hardware and software modules; it describes the concept of an automated building management system, which is currently the next stage in the development of the system.

This article dwells on the academic and teaching activities of Vladimir A. Karelin (born 1952), a well-known teacher and historian who has studied the history of Russian-Norwegian relations. The main stages in his life are described, key areas and results of his research are characterized. V.A. Karelin is a prominent specialist on the history of Russia of the 19th and 20th centuries and the history of Russian-Norwegian relations. He has participated in a large number of international scientific projects with colleagues from the universities of Groningen (The Netherlands) and Tromsø (Norway), which resulted in the publication of study guides, scholarly articles, and a monograph on Svalbard. Moreover, he initiated the creation of the Barents Faculty at Murmansk State Pedagogical Institute (currently, Murmansk Arctic State University), which successfully carried out scientific, publishing and educational programmes aimed at developing international cooperation within the Barents Region.

Fishery complex of the Murmansk region: renunciation of the use of ozone-depleting substances in perspective

The Murmansk State Technical University (MSTU) hosted events on February 2 and 3, 2022, dedicated to the renunciation of the use of ozone-depleting substances and fluorine-containing greenhouse gases of the fishery complex in the Murmansk region, as well as the conference Legislative restrictions and the transition of fishery enterprises of the Murmansk region to efficient and environmentally friendly refrigerants.

Using customizable simulation models of high voltage electrical circuits in educational process

In the modern world, the issue of the use of digital technologies in the framework of teaching students in technical specialties is relevant. For a number of reasons, the solution of this issue is particularly important when preparing for training areas related to the electric power industry and high-voltage equipment. Software products that allow to carry out simulation modeling of technical systems are among the most accessible types of digital technologies used in higher educational institutions of Russia. When conducting classes on the study of transients in electrical circuits or electric drive control systems, students can use specialized software and build simulation models in the absence of real physical equipment. The paper assesses the need for training in the creation and use of simulation models of devices used in conducting high-voltage tests (using the example of a generator capable of realizing a high voltage of a given shape), as well as models of control systems of electric drives. An additional advantage contributing to the use of such schemes in teaching students is that the result of their work are the values of physical parameters presented in numerical form, which allows the developed models to be used as blocks or libraries for the implementation of larger-scale projects. ЧИСЛЕННЫЙ ПОИСК ПАРАМЕТРОВ МАТЕМАТИЧЕСКИХ МОДЕЛЕЙ ПИЩЕВЫХ ПРОДУКТОВ ИЗ ГИДРОБИОНТОВ ДЛЯ ПРОЦЕССОВ ПАСТЕРИЗАЦИИ

The article highlights the numerical search for the mathematical model parameters of food products from hydrobionts put into hermetically sealed canning containers. The mathematical description of the canned products was given as transfer functions. The input value is a retort short-term temperature-time dependence and the output value is the product temperature dynamics. The search for the transfer function coefficients was performed by the numerical optimization method based on the plant response. The product temperature response data was obtained experimentally with thermologgers of the “iButton Data Loggers” series during canned food pasteurization. The numerical search for the mathematical model parameters of food products was carried out using the software AutoCont Lite: SeekerC developed by the author at the Automation and Computer Engineering Department of Murmansk State Technical University. A first-order factor was chosen as 
 a candidate for a product model in a tin can, and for a product in a glass container there was chosen a third-order factor. To solve the problem of numerical search for model parameters the integral estimate was employed as an optimization criterion. It is calculated as the square deviation between the output values of the model and the plant over the investigation period. The research resulted 
 in mathematical models of fishery-canned products obtained in the transfer function form. The obtained result was applied for modeling and subsequent automatic control system implementation for the industrial autoclave ASCAMAT-230 during the canned food pasteurization.

Valentin Andreevich Pripachkin came to work at the Geological Institute of the Kola Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciencesin the early 60s of the twentieth century. He made a successful career in science —he defended his PhD thesis, was the head of the laboratory, scientific secretary and deputy director of the Geological Institute, deputy head of the Department of Geology of the Apatity branch of the Murmansk State Technical University. However, the article is devoted to what Valentin Pripachkin and his peers were outside of their main work —on sports grounds, in amateur groups and informal creative unions.

Factor structure of value-semantic and emotional-volitional characteristics of personal success (on the example of students of the Murmansk State Technical University)

Personnel potential plays the key role in the effective development of the Russian sector of the Arctic. It is impossible to conduct the study of the personnel potential without reliance on the psychological science. This article discusses the phenomenon of personal success and its relationship with the model of vital activity chosen by a person. According to the results of the empirical study the publication presents the factor structure of the value-semantic and emotional-volitional characteristics of the personal success in students with different models of vital activity (vital, social and existential). The factor analysis carried out by the method of principal components with varimax-rotation showed that respondents with an ideal of vital model of vital activity (3 factors were highlighted) have pragmatic orientations - “high level of income”, “personal prestige”. Such manifestations as “spiritual satisfaction”, “creativity”, “self-development” get evaluation below average. The factor structure is dominated by indicators that reveal a disharmonious state, a low level of adaptability to people around them and changing situations. Respondents with an ideal of social model of vital activity (4 factors were identified in total) are oriented towards cooperation in professional and social spheres. They demonstrate high level of social adaptability and a tendency toward self-development and express self-efficiency. Respondents with an ideal of existential model of vital activity (3 factors are highlighted) choose the following priority areas: professional activities, training and education, public life. They are characterized by prosocial behavior, a manifestation of altruism and a desire to contribute to socially significant projects. At the same time, they express harmonious state and are prone to assist people around. The information presented in the article has practical value for teachers, students and graduates of higher schools, HR managers.

Review advances of Automation and Computer Engineering Department in the field of canned food sterilization over the past decade

Time-consuming computing processes at various stages of modern scientific research are increasingly being automated in recent decades. The staff of Automation and Computer Engineering Department together with the Food Production Technology Department of Murmansk State Technical University have been solving the challenge of developing comprehensive automation of scientific research for food production technology for more than one decade. As a result, they have been achieved the great success in the field of food products sterilization from aquatic organisms. Most research in the canning field is aimed at increasing the economic process efficiency and maintaining the microbiological safety and organoleptic qualities of the finished product. In the article main advances of scientific research on the process of canned food sterilization are considered and analyzed. Also plans for future research work are outlined.

Modern Methods and Devices for Obtaining Technological Smoke: Review

The present article is based on the review of the current patent, scientific and technical sources. It summarizes the main types of smoke generators currently used in the meat and fish industry of the Russian Federation. The classification of smoke-generators on the basic attributes characterizing their technological and ecological efficiency is offered. Advantages and disadvantages of modern apparatuses for obtaining smoke are considered. The problem of contamination of food products with polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) during smoke smoking is reviewed. The main reason for the formation of this negative technological effect (pyrolysis of wood fuel in uncontrolled temperature conditions in the overwhelming majority of smoke generators and thermal chambers of different design) is pointed. The article substantiates the high urgency of improving the methods of obtaining carcinogenic free smoke compounds and devices on the basis of the analysis of constructions of domestic and foreign smoke generators and thermal chambers with the option of smoke generation, operated at food enterprises of the Russian Federation. Description of the method of smoke production with the use of infrared heating is given for the infrared smoke generator of Murmansk State Technical University as an example of successful solution of the problem mentioned in the article.

Effects of the Marinating Process on the Quality of the Domesticated Reindeer (Rangifer Tarandus) By-products

The development of methods for the complete and complex processing of raw food materials is one of the main ways to achieve the efficiency of its use: reduce production costs, expand products range and increase products demand. Over the last years, growing attention is paid to the search and development of new technologies of the processing of non-traditional and underutilized types of food materials, such as meat and by-products from alternative animal species. The research was aimed at studying the influence of the marinating process on the quality of the newly developed food product. The object of research was the tongue of domesticated reindeer, the underutilized raw materials of the Kola Peninsula. Product samples were taken in 2012-2016 on the basis of the agricultural production cooperative ”Tundra”, research was carried out on the basis of the Department of Food Production Technologies of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education ”Murmansk State Technical University”. The effects of marinating and duration of heat treatment on the quality of the product samples was studied. The parameters characterizing the generalized indicator of quality were selected - organoleptic (appearance, flavor and taste), physical (cutting force) and microbiological. The optimal composition of the marinade is proposed. The technology of culinary processing of the domesticated reindeer tongue was optimized.

Preface

The International Round Table “Logistics in the Arctic: Problems of International Cooperation” was held in St. Petersburg on November 28, 2019. The round table was organized by the St. Petersburg Peace and Harmony Council, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Murmansk State Technical University and the Science and Education Center «Verdandi». The event was supported by the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund.The aim is to form an objective view and favorable public opinion abroad about the Russian Arctic policy. Within the framework of the round table it was discussed the problems of transport and logistics infrastructure development in the Arctic region.The round table was attended by over 40 experts from Russia, Finland and the Czech Republic.

Industrial Internet of Things concept and energy efficient technologies implementation at a fish drying unit

Modern trends in the availability of information and the widespread use of information and communication technologies not only in everyday life, but also in industry, make it clear that society is on the threshold of a fourth industrial revolution. Such terms as Information Society, Internet of Things, and Digital Economy are understood today as the main focus of state development on which the competitiveness of the national economy depends. The digital economy is primarily defined as a system of economic, social and cultural relations based on the use of digital information and communication technologies. The aim of the presented work is to develop the concept of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) based on an experiment conducted at Murmansk State Technical University. The concept of the Internet of Things was implemented using a small-sized drying unit designed for carrying out the processes of drying and smoking fish and fish products. The proposed method of dewatering reduces the cost of electricity in the production of dried products, extends the life of smoking and drying facilities at the expense of more efficient use of coolant, and improves product quality by reducing the effects of deformation in fish tissues as a result of relaxation.
