Quantitation of three benzimidazole compounds in milk combining effervescence-assisted dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction with electrochemical detection using carbon nanotube-electropolymerized L-DOPA modified sensor

Benzimidazoles constitute a group of compounds known for their applications in pharmacy, agriculture and food industry. In recent decades, researchers have dedicated significant efforts to improving microextraction and detection methods that align with the principles of green analytical chemistry. In the present study, we have devised an effervescence-assisted dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction method and built an electrochemical sensor for the detection of albendazole, fenbendazole, and thiabendazole using GCEs (glassy carbon electrode) modified with multiple walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and poly (L-Dopa) film, allowing benzimidazole detection in complex matrices such as milk. Optimization of the microextraction procedure and electrochemical performance of the sensor was done by response surface methodology. The electrochemical sensor enabled the detection of albendazole, fenbendazole, and thiabendazole in a range of 0.37 to 100 μg mL−1 with a detection limit ranged between 0.14 to 0.28 μg mL−1. The developed sensor was tested in commercial milk. Results show satisfactory analytical performance, achieving a sensitive and selective quantification, especially considering the complexity of the matrix in which it was applied. The newly created sensor facilitates the simultaneous quantitation of the desired analytes, delivering an exceptionally praiseworthy analytical performance with detection limits lower than most existing methods.

Analyzing the Effect of Magnetic Drag Force on Carbon Nanotubes Suspended in Casson Fluid Within Parallel Surfaces with Heat Diffusion and Rate of Molar Reaction: An Analytical Approach

The study of hydromagnetic CNTs of Casson fluids in Poiseuille flow has significant implications for various industries and can provide valuable insights into the fundamental properties, such as viscosity and conductivity of these fluids. They can improve the heat transfer properties of fluids and enhance the overall efficiency of thermal systems and the presence of CNTs can induce a magnetic field in the fluid. The main goal of using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in Poiseuille flow is to enhance the fluid flow properties, such as viscosity, thermal conductivity, and heat transfer and the novelty of CNTs in Poiseuille flow lies in their ability to modify the fluid flow properties by altering the structure of the fluid at the nanoscale level. The use of CNTs in Poiseuille flow has gained attention due to their unique mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. An analytical approach to the investigation of heat transmission in hydro-magnetic forces of natural convective flow of Casson-fluid in a Poiseuille flow implanted by Darcian regime on Carbon Nanotubes with the impacts of magnetic field, heat generation, diffusion thermo, porosity, radiation and first order chemical reaction is presented. In this research, dual solutions are introduced for single-wall and multiple-wall carbon nanotubes over velocity and temperature of nanofluid by the application of various physical and they are elaborated via plane curves. The base fluid is considered for the CNTs as Engine oil. Validity of this model has established by comparing with the available previous literature and is found acceptable agreement with it. In the present study, it is found that the fluctuation in radiation and heat generation plays a significant role in CNTs. It is known that a rise in the Casson parameter and nanoparticle volume fraction enhances the fluid velocity. It is concluded that, the volume fraction of nanoparticles in Poiseuille flow can have a significant impact on the flow behaviour and properties of the fluid. This study has tremendous feasible applications in the areas related to biomedical sciences, water purification process, technology of fibers, nano-materials technology, storage of energy and various applications.

Synthesis and characterization of Restricted Access Magnetic Nanotubes (M-RACNTs) for the extraction of secondary metabolites from Lasiodiplodia sp. fermentation broth

This work proposed the synthesis and the characterization of Restricted Access Magnetic Nanotubes (M-RACNTs) to be used as sorbent in the magnetic dispersive solid-phase extraction (MDSPE) of organic compounds from the fermentation broth of the endophyte Lasiodiplodia sp. Synthesis was performed by functionalizing commercial multiple-walled carbon nanotubes with magnetic nanoparticles (M-CNTs) and by coating the M-CNTs with a layer of bovine serum albumin. The materials were characterized by infrared spectroscopy with Fourier Transform, thermogravimetry, zeta potential, and scanning electron microscopy. Different crude extracts were obtained, depending on the sample pH and the elution solvent tested. Chloroform and ethyl acetate extracts showed activity against a Gram-positive pathogen (Staphylococcus aureus). The crude extract's constitution was investigated. By GC/MS analysis were found hydrocarbons, aldehydes, alcohols, among others, while by LC-MS/MS analysis were found flavonoids, macrocyclic lactones, oleic acids, jasmonic acid derivatives and amino acids. A multivariate optimization, through fractional factorial planning, for four independent variables, was performed for a hydrocarbon (hexadecane) and one possible jasmonic acid derivative, both with antimicrobial activity related in the literature. The results showed that it was possible to obtain crude extracts with high concentrations of these analytes in a single extraction procedure. The increase in the analytical signal was 3.7 times for hexadecane and 1.4 times for the possible jasmonic acid derivative. The M-RACNTs also demonstrated their ability to prevent the adsorption of macromolecules, such as lysozyme, which was confirmed through SDS-PAGE analysis.

Obtaining nanocomposites based on recycled polystyrene from urban solid waste with carbon nanostructures: graphene oxide and multi-wall carbon nanotubes, modified with organic acids

The excessive use of polystyrene has caused great environmental problems at a global level, an alternative to reduce this problem is recycling, in order to obtain new products from waste, so the objective of this manuscript is to obtain nanocomposites (NCs) from recycled polystyrene with the integration of graphene oxide (OG) and multiple walled carbon nanotubes (NTCPM) previously modified with benzoic acid at concentrations of 0.33 and 5% respectively. Low toxicity solvent was used. The materials obtained were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and light microscopy, finding by FTIR that the chemical structure of the polystyrene was not affected after the integration of the nanostructures and processing, which suggests that they are maintained the properties, regarding the optical micrographs, it can be observed that the NCs with the modified nanostructures presented a homogeneous dispersion, with respect to the thermogravimetric analysis, they increased 27 ° C in thermal stability.

Photodetectors based on chemical vapor deposition or liquid processed multi-wall carbon nanotubes

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted great interest for applications due to their unique mechanical, electronic and optoelectronic properties. The advantages of the multiple wall carbon nanotubes for optoelectronic devices like photodetectors and photodiodes are the large effective photo-collector surface as well as the possibility to tune the band gap and absorbance by controlling the growth parameters. In this work, we demonstrate two types of hybrid Multi-Wall CNTs/Si3N4/n-Si photodetectors based on ordered (produced with Chemical Vapor Deposition – CVD) and solution processed MWCNTs and evaluate their performance in UV and visual spectrum (275 nm, 655 nm). Device parameters were obtained by comparison of I–V characteristics to Schottky barrier models and C–V characteristics to standard MIS capacitor models. The role of silicon nitride layer was also examined by comparing devices with different nitride layer thickness. Focusing on the UV part of the spectrum, the solution processed device was photosensitive in the voltage range 3V–6V giving its best performance (External Quantum Efficiency - E.Q.E. 85%@275 nm) at 5V and illumination of 5 μW. The CVD processed device showed lower EQE for the same bias voltage range. Both devices showed a low performance in optical part of the spectrum compared to the corresponding one in the UV part of the spectrum. The mean optical responsivity values obtained at the UV part of the spectrum in both cases indicate that the Visible light blind MWCNT/Si3N4/n-Si system have a potential use in UV photodetector applications. In particular, solution processed devices may pave the way for cheap production of UV sensor systems.

Isoflavones-functionalized single-walled and multi-walled carbon nanotubes: Synthesis and characterization of new nanoarchitetonics for biomedical uses

In this work, we describe the functionalization of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multiple-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with two selected isoflavones (biochanin A and formononetin), and compare the physicochemical properties of the obtained assemblies. The selection of isoflavones was based on the preliminary assessment of bibliometric maps generated from Scopus core collection. Acidic treatment of SWCNTs and MWCNTs improved the samples’ dispersibility in water. Regardless the pH environment, SWCNTs remained aggregated in aqueous solution, even after functionalization. The dispersibility of MWCNT increased after acidic treatment (MWCNTA) in both tested pH values (4 and 7). Functionalization was confirmed by the improved dispersibility of CNTs with both isoflavones. MWNCTA and isoflavone 1:1 (w/w) was used for both molecules. Biochanin A showed improved anchoring in MWNCTA when compared to formononetin. Our results corroborate the interest on the use of these new biomaterials based on carbon nanotubes for a range of biomedical applications.

Impact of thermal radiation and internal heat generation on Casson nano-fluid flowing by a curved stretchable surface with suspension of carbon nanotubes (CNTs)

The function of present work is to inspect heat transmission of radiative nanofluid in regard to boundary layer description. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) dependent fluid is being evaluated and it flows overtop a curved stretching surface. Special features, like thermal radiation and internal heat generation, which corresponds to heat transmission along the flow have been incorporated. Dual nature of carbon nanotubes, that is, single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as well as multiple walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) together with blood (base fluid) have been utilized for the composition of nanofluid. The rheological properties of blood have been captured using Casson fluid model. Appropriate transformations have been applied to reduce the modeled system of nonlinear partial differential equations into a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). To achieve the desired numerical solution of obtained system of ODEs, NDSolve technique is employed using Mathematica. Numerous parameters appearing in governing equations, exert influence on focused physical quantities. Graphs have been engaged to capture these variations for both SWCNTs and MWCNTs. Likewise, numeric charts have been displayed to investigate impressions on skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number for distinct parameters.

MHD thermo-radiative heat transfer characteristics of carbon nanotubes based nanofluid over a convective expanding sheet in a porous medium with variable thermal conductivity

ABSTRACT The impacts of thermal radiation (non-linear) and thermal conductivity (variable) on magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) heat transfer over a flat stretchable surface by taking single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multiple-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) inside the base liquid (water) embedded in a porous media have been analysed. We have utilized an appropriate set of similarity transformations to rehabilitate the governing partial differential equations into a non-linear ordinary differential equations system. These equations are then solved using a Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg technique with a shooting algorithm. The influences of several critical physical parameters on the velocity (V) and temperature (T) fields, coefficient of skin-friction (C f ), and local Nusselt number (Nu x ) have been examined in detail by plotting several graphs and tables for both SWCNTs and MWCNTs. The acquired outcomes show that SWCNTs in water-based nanofluid has remarkable effects on skin friction and the heat transfer rate when contrasted with MWCNTs. Likewise, the variable thermal conductivity enhancement diminishes the Nu x , whereas the inverse impacts the expanding T ratio parameter.

Nonlinear radiation effects on water-based nanofluid containing CNTs subject to heat source/ sink past a wedge

In this paper, a two-dimensional and incompressible laminar flow comprised of water-based carbon nanotubes over convectively heated moving wedge under the magnetic field and nonlinear radiation and heat production/ absorption is investigated. The base nanofluid (water) contains single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multiple walls carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). In order to convert the dimensional nonlinear partial differential equations in nondimensional nonlinear ordinary differential form, an adequate set of similarity variables had been used. These set of equations and boundary conditions are evaluated by the implementation of RKF-45 (Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg fourth-fifth) order scheme. The influence of several physical parameters on particular nanoparticle’s volume friction, temperature and velocity ratio parameter, heat source/ sink parameter, nonlinear radiative constraint, exponent constant, magnetic factor, Eckert and Biot numbers is studied. An opposite behavior of volume fraction and velocity ratio parameters on velocity and energy profiles is achieved.

Effect of Multiple-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) on Asphalt Binder Rheological Properties and Performance

Growing traffic loads, soaring summer temperatures, and moisture damage will render conventional asphalt binder insufficient to maintain the performance standards of asphalt concrete pavement. Thus, it is necessary to modify the virgin asphalt using various polymers or nanomaterials. The primary goal of this research was to examine the rheological effects of combining multiple-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) in an asphalt binder. In this study, MWCNTs and SBS were mixed with virgin asphalt at concentrations of 1%, 3%, and 5% by weight. The performance grade (PG) and asphalt binder qualities were determined through Superpave system testing. The addition of 1% MWCNTs had no effect on the (PG) of virgin asphalt, whereas the addition of 3% and 5% MWCNTs resulted in increases of 2° and 4°, respectively. When 1% SBS is added to asphalt, the PG rises by an average of 1°; when 3% and 5% SBS are used, the PG rises by an average of 2° and 3°, respectively. The results also showed that the rutting parameter (G ∗ /sin) increased by 10%, 73%, and 208% when asphalt was changed with 1%, 3%, and 5% of SBS, and by 18% and 130% when MWCNTs were applied.

Heat transfer enhancement in free convection flow of MHD second grade fluid with carbon nanotubes (CNTS) over a vertically static plate

Nanofluids are said to have high potential applicability as an enhanced thermophysical heat transfer fluid and are also related to CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose) due to their increased thermal conductivities. The intention of this research is to investigate and analyze the free convection flow of a second grade MHD heat transfer of CNTs on a vertically static plate with a constant wall temperature. The two types of CNTs are immersed in CMC, named multiple wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWC-NTs). Nanofluids have been determined to offer a great potential application as an improved thermophysical heat transfer fluid, also due to their higher thermal conductivities. The problem is formulated as PDEs with initial and boundary conditions that are transformed into dimensionless structures by using unique non-dimensional variables. The general solution to the problem is achieved by utilizing the Laplace Transformation approach and obtaining the exact solutions for velocity, temperature, and shear stress. We compared the solutions of SWCNTs and MWCNTs regarding parameters such as Grashof number, relaxation time, Prandtl number, and volume fraction of nanoparticles. The results are significantly influenced by the differences in SWCNTs andMWCNTs.

Thermal transport of mixed convective flow of carbon nanotubes with Fourier heat flux model: Prabhakar-time derivatives assessment

The thermal prospective of hybrid nanofluid is more impressive and presents many dynamical applications in solar collectors, thermal systems, machining, extrusion processes, nuclear cooling, heating and cooling devices, desalination. Owing to such motivations in mind, this research communicates thermal impact of carbon nanotubes due to inclined plate under the effect of a magnetic field. Both single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multiple-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are considered as nanoparticles to enhance the thermal mechanism of human blood and water base liquids. The mixed convection phenomenon for natural convective flow is considered. The most recent definition of fractional scheme namely Prabhakar derivatives is used to perform the theoretical outcomes. The integral of problem is supported with Laplace transform. The impact of dimensionless parameters on velocity and temperature profiles is studied and graphs are plotted by the mathematical software. The obtained results are compared numerically and graphically by using different inverse techniques known as Stehfest method and Tzou’s methods. It is observed that nanoparticles’ volume fraction boosted the thermal phenomenon more effectively for SWCNTs. The improved velocity profile due to interaction of buoyancy forces is observed.

Nonsimilar convection analysis of single and multilayer carbon nanotubes based nanofluid flow over a vertical cone in a complex porous media subjected to thermal radiations and chemical reaction

The objective of this article is to present a novel model and the consequences of natural convection in magneto hydrodynamic (MHD) boundary-layer flow of carbon nanotubes (CNT’s) based nanofluid above a vertical cone immersed in a porous medium subjected to the suction/injection effects. Two distinct types of CNT’s are investigated within the base fluid known as single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT’s) and multiple wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT’s). Moreover, heat and mass transport mechanisms are examined in the presence of thermal radiations and chemical reactions, respectively. Nonsimilarity transformations are operated to transmute the partial differential system (PDE’s) into dimensionless PDE’s. Numerical solution is acquired by employing local nonsimilarity (LNS) via bvp4c algorithm. Graphical results are plotted and discussed comprehensively against the variation of appealing parameters namely Biot number B10.5-35, Buoyancy ratio parameter Nr0.1-8, chemical reaction parameter Cr0.1-20, Prandtl number Pr(6.2-30), injection parameter Vo0.1-2, Magnetic field M0.2-60 and radiation parameter R(0.1-2). Moreover, the values of Sherwood number Sh, amount of concentration and temperature are examined for distinct values of dimensionless parameters and the conclusions are reported in tabular formation. It is noticed that the Sherwood number escalates with increasing B1 in both SWCNT’s-water and MWCNT’s-water nanofluids, while velocity and temperature profiles are decreasing function of Prandtl number. An excellent comparison is noticed that influence of SWCNT’s is higher than MWCNT’s for velocity, temperature and concentration portray. Finally, the present work is certified via comparison with already published article in limiting case. The novelty of the considered model lies in the fact that the nonsimilar model of the considered model has not been addressed in literature.

Entropy optimization and heat flux analysis of Maxwell nanofluid configurated by an exponentially stretching surface with velocity slip

Hybrid nanofluids are extremely important in field of engineering and technology due to their higher heat transportation performance resulting in increased heat transfer rates. In the presence of thermal heat flux, the effect of a slanted MHD with velocity slip condition on a CNTs hybrid nanocomposite across a gradually extending surface is investigated. In present analysis, Maxwell nanofluid is embedded with SWCNT and MWCNT (single and multiple wall carbon nanotubes) nanoparticles. The nanomaterials transformation framework is obtained by employing Xue modified theoretical model. Various factors like dissipation, thermal radiations and Ohmic heat influences are adequately implemented in heat formulation. The physical features of thermodynamical mechanism of irreversibility are explored. The thermodynamics second law is used to produce the entropy optimization formulation. In addition, entropy is utilized to assess the energy aspects of a heat exchanger. Utilizing appropriate parameters, the model nonlinear PDEs are transformed to ODEs. The HAM technique is used to compute the solution of nonlinear ODEs. For both types of CNTs, the variations of entropy rate, Bejan number, velocity and temperature field versus key technical parameters is analyzed. The Nu and Cf computational result for both CNTs are examined in tabulated and chart form. Velocity is inversely proportional to magnetic and solid volume nanoparticle parameters. The Br and Rd accelerates NG and Be for both nanocomposites. Additionally, a comparison of the HAM result and the numerical result is validated.

Current Synthetic Methodologies of Carbon Nanotubes: A Review

Abstract:Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) possess a unique one-dimensional molecular geometry with a large surface area. Recently, CNTs have become a thrust area of research as they play a crucial role in molecular engineering due to their excellent mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. CNTs have a wide range of applications in various fields due to their unique properties. The Multiple Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) are thermally, mechanically, and structurally stronger than single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The sublimation of carbon in an inert atmosphere is the basis of synthetic methods of CNTs like the solar method, laser ablation, and electric arc discharge. Specific chemical methods like CVD, electrolysis, catalytic decomposition of hydrocarbons, heat treatment of a polymer, ball milling, etc., can also be used to prepare CNTs. Attempts have been made in the present review to discuss all synthetic methods of CNTs, their discoverers, the importance of techniques, various parameters that affect the process in detail, and the mechanism for the growth of CNTs. This article aims to provide a comprehensive pathway for researchers who deal with the synthetic methodology of carbon nanotubes. This review is also interesting for readers of material science and nanochemistry.

Effects of Molarity and Storage Time of MWCNTs on the Properties of Cement Paste.

Nowadays, nanomaterials in cement pastes are among the most important topics in the cement industry because they can be used for several applications. For this reason, this work presents a study about the influence of changing the molarity of dispersed multiple wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and varying the number of storage days on the mechanical properties of the cement paste. To achieve this objective, dispersions of 0.35% MWCNTs, varying the molarity of the surfactant as 10 mM, 20 mM, 40 mM, 60 mM, 80 mM, and 100 mM, were performed. The mixture of materials was developed using the sonication process; furthermore, materials were analyzed using UV-Vis, Z-potential, and Raman spectroscopy techniques. Materials with a molarity of 10 mM exhibited the best results, allowing them to also be stored for four weeks. Regarding the mechanical properties, an increase in the elastic modulus was observed when MWCNTs were included in the cement paste for all storage times. The elastic modulus and the maximum stress increased as the storage time increased.

A micromechanical study of the fatigue behavior of MWCNT-modified carbon fibers/epoxy resin single filament composites subjected to cyclic loadings

This paper presents a comprehensive study on the impact of surface modification of carbon fibers using multiple-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to improve the load-transfer capacity of the fiber-matrix interface of an epoxy matrix composite subjected to dynamic loads. The single-fiber fragmentation technique (SFFT) was utilized to characterize the length of interfase damage (IDL) produced by quasi-static and dynamic loadings for linear elastic and plastic strains and the residual efficiency of interfacial stress transfer. A finite element model was used to validate the optical measurement and the extent of interfase damage. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) corroborated the presence of the MWCNTs on the surface of the carbon fibers. The interfacial shear strength (IFSS) increased by approximately 27.5%, attributed to the carbon nanotubes and a more significant fiber-matrix stress transfer. The application of dynamic loads decreased the mechanical properties of the matrix, premature fragmentation of the carbon fiber, and interfacial damage, which led to a reduction in the interfase load-transfer capacity. However, the incorporation of carbon nanotubes in the interface decreased the adverse effects generated by the application of cyclic loads, mainly the propagation of interfacial damage.

An Optimal Investigation of Convective Fluid Flow Suspended by Carbon Nanotubes and Thermal Radiation Impact

This study is focused towards analyzing the heat and flow movement among two stretching rotating disks inside water-based carbon nanotubes. The idea of thermal boundary conditions and heat convection is used and the system is expressed in partial differential equations. Using the similarity techniques, the model is successfully converted to a nonlinear ordinary differential equation. A familiar collocation method is used to simulate the outcomes of the governed system while the method is validated through a set of tables and assessed with existing literature. The physical aspects of the proposed model have been studied in detail and assisted via graphical diagrams against the variation of different parameters. It is found that the multiple-wall carbon nanotubes intensify the system quickly and improve the rate of heat transmission. It is also noted that the proposed method is in excellent in agreement with already published studies and can be extended for other physical problems. Moreover, when values of Re parameter increase, a drop is noted in the magnitude of radial velocity near the faces of the disks. It is very clear from the tabular comparison that collocation scheme is in good agreement with already published studies and homotopic solutions.

Natural Convection Water/Glycerin-CNT Fractionalized Nanofluid Flow in a Channel with Isothermal and Ramped Conditions.

This article investigates heat and mass transport enrichment in natural convection fractionalized nanofluid flow inside a channel with isothermal and ramped wall conditions under the effects of chemical reactions, radiation, heat absorption, and the Soret effect. To obtain the fractional model, the Caputo time-fractional derivative definition is used, and analytical results are obtained by the Laplace transform. In two base fluids, water and glycerin, the impacts of two nanoparticles, single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multiple-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), are investigated. The comparison of six distinct fluids, including water, water–SWCNT, water–MWCNT, glycerin, glycerin–SWCNT and glycerin–WMCNT, is explored graphically. Physical parameters’ effects on isothermal and ramped conditions are graphically depicted and explained in depth. For isothermal wall conditions, the variation in concentration, temperature and velocity is exponential, while for ramped wall conditions, the variation is steady. Finally, the results of skin frictions, Nusselt numbers and Sherwood numbers and for both ramped wall and isothermal wall conditions are evaluated in tabular form for various values of volume fraction. Moreover, it is observed that the temperature, velocity, Nusselt numbers and skin frictions increase by increasing the volume fraction of CNTs.

Remarkable microwave heating performance of MWCNTs/polypropylene composites verified by electromagnetic-thermal coupling experiment and simulation

To explore the microwave heating technology of thermoplastic materials, multiple-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/polypropylene (PP) composites with mass content of MWCNT ranging from 0.5 wt% to 6 wt% had been fabricated by melt blending. The as-prepared samples were heated in a commercial microwave oven with microwave frequency of 2.45 GHz for 5 s and their surface temperatures were recorded via an infrared thermal imager. The temperature of these samples reached its highest point when the mass content of MWCNT was 3 wt% and it could be heated to 290 °C in 5 s. The composites were also characterized by scanning electron microcopy (SEM), four-point probe method and vector network analyzer (VNA) to study the morphology, electrical performance and S-parameter respectively. The dc conductivity and morphology of the sample indicates that the effective three-dimensional conductive network is formed when the mass content of MWCNT is 1 wt%, and the microwave energy is converted into heat mainly in the form of conduction loss. Microwave heating mechanism of MWCNT/PP composites was studied by EM-thermal coupling and analyzing the absorbance (A), reflectance (R) and transmittance (T) calculated by S-parameters. The simulation results of EM-thermal coupling are consistent with the experimental results. The absorbance shows the samples' absorption of microwave energy and it has the same variation trend as the samples’ temperature, which indicates that the microwave heating property of MWCNTs/PP composites can be estimated by its absorbance. Therefore, MWCNT can be considered as a potential microwave absorber for thermoplastic materials and its best content can be well estimated.
