Structural analysis is a subject which involves designing, planning to build a perfect building. Basically, each project is different with their design criteria such as incoming load, soil properties, dynamic load, built up area etc.In the present days of improving science and technology, analyzing and designing of a building has been made easy by using ETABS and Auto cad software.Design of residential building by Auto CAD (COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN) and analysis of the building by using ETABS (EXTENDED THREE DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS OF BUILDING SYSTEM)which includes- generating a structural framing plan, getting model analysis of structure and design of structure.ETABS software helps civil engineers to make their work easy and decreases time necessary for planning.The project going to be done is the design of a multi-storey residential building. The building plan has been drafted using the Auto Cad software by the requirements and available area.The super structure i.e. The building frame has been analyzed and designed using the ETABS software.In the present project G+5 Residential building is going to be analyzed and designed for gravity and lateral (wind and earth quake) loads as per Indian standards.

Problems of mass housing typology development for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine

The article examines the problems of designing mass housing for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. One of these problems is the changes in regulatory documents in the field of construction and architecture, which were developed before the start of Russia's large-scale aggression and approved after its start, which significantly increase the estimated cost of new housing. As a result of the analysis of the experience of Ukraine’s reconstruction after World War II, it was found that mass housing construction and provision of housing to all who need it in conditions of limited resources are impossible without maximally reducing the cost of construction and operation of residential buildings. The need to suspend all recent changes in regulatory documents, which lead to a significant increase in the estimated cost of construction, is argued.
 It is noted that in the conditions of possible large-scale emergency or planned power outages, which make it impossible to mass-use such evacuation routes as smoke-free stairwells of types N2, N3, N4, the use of fire elevators for rescuing people, the use of fire-proof lobby of the 1st type for arrangement of fire-safe zones for people with reduced mobility (PRM), the safest place for placing apartments for PRM is the ground floor of a residential building.
 One of the promising options for mass housing is defined as sectional houses of medium storeys.
 Corridor residential buildings of medium storey are proposed as a promising type of housing for temporary accommodation of internally displaced persons. Planning solutions for fire safety zones on a typical floor for medium-rise residential buildings and multi-story residential buildings with a conventional height of up to 26.5 m have been developed.

New approaches to ensuring fire safety of multistorey residential buildings at the design stage

Based on the analysis of fires, it concluded that the main number of fires are fires in the residential sector both in Kazakhstan and abroad. Based on the simulation of a fire in an apartment and the process of evacuating people from it, an analysis of the calculations carried out for modern multi-level residential complexes designed with the participation of the authors, was concluded to develop the additional criteria for safe evacuation from the building. As a result of the study, it was found that its configuration and dimensions exert the main influence on the value of the maximum distance from the most remote point of the apartment to the exit. The criteria parameters are the area and distance from the most remote point to the exit from the apartments, which are 80m2 and 12m, respectively.

A Study of Prospective Barriers, Benefits and Measures for Building Information Modeling (BIM) Adoption in Nepalese AEC Industry

The construction industry needs modern construction methodology and technology to improve sustainability and production performance. Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology supports improving the quality of products by reducing design and construction defects, risks to the health and safety of workers, and reduce overall project cost and delivery time. The BIM has capabilities, but it is still undiscovered and unable to exploit the full scale of its benefits in the Architectural Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. There is a trend to adopt the BIM level 1, which is limited to 2D and only in a few cases 3D models uses in the design and construction of residential and commercial buildings, particularly in Nepal. Hence, this paper focuses on providing insight into the BIM benefits and identifies the potential barriers while adopting BIM Level 3 in Nepal. This was accomplished by developing a 4DBIM model of a multi-story residential building in Nepal and conducting the industry survey via focus group with the AEC professionals based on the developed 4DBIM model. A comprehensive literature review was conducted and presented the findings of the BIM benefits and barriers while adopting BIM. The study found that commercial and governmental projects can immediately be adopted BIM technology. It is concluded that the unavailability of skilled BIM users and the lack of proper policies for BIM adoption are key barriers in Nepal. Hence, the new policy is required to achieve and exploit the full scale of the BIM benefits and improve the project delivery in terms of quality, cost and time including the health and safety of workers and the sustainability of the AEC industry.

Carbon footprint assessment of a wood multi-residential building considering biogenic carbon

Wood and other bio-based building materials are often perceived as a good choice from a climate mitigation perspective. This article compares the life cycle assessment of the same multi-residential building from the perspective of 16 countries participating in the international project Annex 72 of the International Energy Agency to determine the effects of different datasets and methods of accounting for biogenic carbon in wood construction. Three assessment methods are herein considered: two recognized in the standards (the so-called 0/0 method and −1/+1 method) and a variation of the latter (−1/+1* method) used in Australia, Canada, France, and New Zealand. The 0/0 method considers neither fixation in the production stage nor releases of biogenic carbon at the end of a wood product's life. In contrast, the −1/+1 method accounts for the fixation of biogenic carbon in the production stage and its release in the end-of-life stage, irrespective of the disposal scenario (recycling, incineration or landfill). The −1/+1 method assumes that landfills offer only a temporary sequestration of carbon. In the −1/+1* variation, landfills and recycling are considered a partly permanent sequestration of biogenic carbon and thus fewer emissions are accounted for in the end-of-life stage. We examine the variability of the calculated life cycle-based greenhouse gas emissions calculated for a case study building by each participating country, within the same assessment method and across the methods. The results vary substantially. The main reasons for deviations are whether or not landfills and recycling are considered a partly permanent sequestration of biogenic carbon and a mismatch in the biogenic carbon balance. Our findings support the need for further research and to develop practical guidelines to harmonize life cycle assessment methods of buildings with bio-based materials.

Membrane structures: application experience and development prospects

Introduction. At present, studying an increase in the applicability of steel structures in all segments of the construction industry, particularly in residential construction, is relevant. Membrane systems are high-tech and economical structures. The behavior of large-span membrane structures is studied in great detail in practice. However, membranes, combined with medium and small spans, remain understudied.
 
 Materials and methods. Findings of basic theoretical, experimental and numerical studies of membrane systems, used in structural analysis and design, are provided. An advanced membrane slab design, designated for metal-framed multistory residential buildings, is described. Its flat support contour is rectangular in plan; it has a membrane and a monolithic concrete slab over it.
 
 Results. Lira-SAPR software package was used to conduct numerical studies of the membrane slab. The studies took account of its structural, geometrical and physical nonlinearity, and the results were compared with an experimental study. The distribution of forces in its support contour is typical for rectangular membrane structures with positive curvature shells.
 
 Conclusions. Numerical analysis of a full-scale structure and a tested model having a monolithic reinforced concrete slab on the membrane proved the long-term benefits of this structure. The results of numerical analysis demonstrate the qualitative convergence with the experimental data. The variable thickness of the slab resting on the membrane, collaboration of the slab, the membrane and the support contour, the physical nonlinearity of the system elements and, above all, the reinforced concrete slab must be taken into account to reduce the qualitative discrepancy between numerical and experimental results.

Abstract: This review paper involves the study of various aspects of analysis and design of multi storey residential building by using STAAD. Pro. Structural designing requires a detailed structural analysis on which the design of the structure is based. But it is not always possible to do in manual calculation hence the need for programming tools was found. For which several of power tools were formed, among which the most widely used one is STAAD.

“It's never telling me that I'm good!” Household experiences of testing a smart home energy management system with a personal threshold on energy use in Sweden

Although smart technologies are widely promoted as enabling flexibility in households' energy demand, they often fail to achieve substantial impact. How smart technologies are actually used and to what extent they enable changes of energy-reliant practices in everyday life therefore needs to be better understood. This paper evaluates a smart home energy management system, Ero 2.0, which was tested by households in a multi-residential building in Sweden. To our knowledge, apart from its forerunner, Ero 2.0 is the first of its kind to include a personal threshold on energy use varying with the availability of preferred energy sources. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 participants, complemented by pre and post surveys, answered by 39 and 32 participants respectively. Overall, Ero 2.0 contributed to raised awareness regarding electricity and water use. To some extent, it also contributed to changes in practices, mainly through changed or reduced use of certain functions. However, it was less effective in enabling shifting practices in time. Difficulties to change practices were found to depend on: (1) lack of flexibility in everyday life, (2) limitations in size and layout of the dwelling, (3) lack of incentives and perceived impact, (4) lack of guidance and (5) lack of possibilities to control devices through the interface. The second point is an aspect that to date has received little attention in smart energy research. Design opportunities for future smart home energy management systems are discussed while acknowledging that such technologies cannot alone achieve the transition to more sustainable energy systems.

An Integrated Quality Index of High-Rise Residential Buildings for All Lifecycle Stages of a Construction Facility

The study focuses on developing a methodology for calculating an integrated quality index of administrative and engineering solutions that affect the safety of multi-storey residential buildings at each stage of their lifecycle. This method can be used to design a tool for assessing the integrated quality of multi-storey residential buildings at each stage of production. Advanced quality assessment methods were analyzed within the framework of this study. The analysis led to the conclusion that the most relevant problem is the lack of an integrated approach to the quality assessment of multi-storey residential buildings. Having studied an extensive number of research works, the authors identified the main parameters that affect the quality of a construction facility. The aims of the study were to (1) develop an integrated quality index for multi-storey residential buildings (this index is to be applicable as early as at the stage of pre-construction arrangements); (2) develop methods for calculating and evaluating the integrated quality index for high-rise residential buildings at the stage of construction arrangements; (3) improve the efficiency of administrative and engineering solutions; and (4) devise a mathematical model that will identify the numerical value of the proposed multi-factor criteria. The research results show the feasibility and expediency of introducing this methodology in residential construction as it allows for a comprehensive measurement and quality assessment of high-rise residential buildings.

Intelligent digital twin for federated learning in AIoT networks

Federated Learning (FL) promises to solve the data privacy problem by training the local model on each node and sharing the model parameters instead of the data itself. Next, the FL server applies model aggregation techniques to aggregate the received models and broadcast the resulting model to the connected clients. This study proposes a Digital Twin-based Federated Learning (DT-FL) framework to virtually monitor and controls the remotely deployed physical clients and their training process. The connection-oriented protocol, Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF) Iotivity, connects the FL clients with the FL server to ensure packet delivery. OCF Iotivity sends/receives the models’ weights to/from the server, and Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is used to monitor clients’ local training. After receiving partially trained models from clients, the server performs the optimal model selection using the normal distribution method by considering the performance of the model. Finally, the best-selected models are aggregated, and the final model is broadcasted to the clients. The framework utilizes Raspberrypi 4 devices as clients with limited computational capabilities, due to which the experiments are conducted with structured energy consumption data. The dataset comprises of 8 multistory residential buildings located in different geographical locations of the Republic of Korea. Each residential building is treated as an FL client and registered on DT using the IP address and port number. The DT-FL framework can be used with classification and regression datasets, and the model architecture for that data can be designed on the DT platform. The experiments are conducted with the partial and full participation of clients. The results show the minimum delay time in physical and virtual object synchronization and better performance and generalization of the global model for each client. The source code of the proposed DT-FL framework is available on GitHub.

Novel FRF-based fast modal testing of multi-storey CLT building in operation using wirelessly synchronised data loggers

This paper presents a novel input–output frequency-response function (FRF) based field modal testing (MT) of an operational and fully occupied tallest cross-laminated timber (CLT) building in the U.K. A custom-built MT system and testing protocol were developed to facilitate exceptionally fast field testing work lasting only 10 h, including all instrumentation and field testing work.This yielded eight fundamental and higher-order modes of vibration with natural frequencies up to 12 Hz. The higher order modes are normally not possible to measure well enough using the standard output-only operational modal analysis (OMA). An FE model was developed prior to the testing to assure quality and facilitate the fast testing process. The FE model, based on the best engineering judgement, proved to be able to predict very well the key features of the test building. This includes close matching and correct clustering of the FE-calculated and MT-estimated natural frequencies, as well as a very reasonable prediction of the static stiffness at the top of the building. The in-situ measured horizontal static stiffness at the top of the CLT building is a considerable benefit of the field FRF measurements and is not possible in the standard OMA. It was shown that the preliminary best practice FE model was over-predicting the static stiffness in the two orthogonal directions by only up to 22% of the measured values.Curve-fitting of the good quality FRF data yielded damping ratio values for the higher order modes of vibration, typically above 3%. This is quite high for a full-scale multi-storey residential building.

PURPOSE. The problem of prompt and efficient fire suppression in high-rise buildings is getting more relevant in view of increase in the number of floors in residential buildings nowadays. The aim of the given work is to conduct an analytical review and identify the main features of extinguishing fires in high-rise buildings with the help of technical means delivering extinguishing agents to the height. METHODS. The authors used methods of mathematical statistics, systems analysis and expert assessments. FINDINGS. The analysis of fires in multi-storey residential buildings in the Russian Federation made it possible to reveal the trend towards increase in fires in such buildings over the past few years. Kitchen and living rooms are still the main source of ignition. And the problem of delivering extinguishing agents to the height remains relevant. Three scenarios of fires for different floors were simulated and schemes for delivering extinguishing agents with the help of mobile means of fire extinguishment were proposed. Fire-fighting equipment and its weight necessary for extinguishing fires were calculated. The probability of the injury rate growth due to increased load on firemen while extinguishing fires at these facilities was brought out. RESEARCH APPLICATION FIELD. The outcomes of the research can be used when studying specifics of fire development in multi-storey residential buildings in order to further improve technical means of fire extinguishment. CONCLUSIONS. Developing and introducing “gentle” means for delivering extinguishing agents in enclosed spaces will allow minimizing damage from excessive water delivery onto fires, and improving ergonomic parameters of fire-fighting equipment will make it possible to speed up laying main and working lines and also to reduce the level of injuries among firefighters due to exhaustion.

Modular standardization criteria applied in multi-story residential buildings in Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT)

Las edificaciones multi-residenciales en altura en madera contralaminada se perfilan como una opción sustentable y rentable con posibilidades de industrialización, que abren el camino a nuevos paradigmas en la construcción. En este nuevo modelo edificatorio, la modulación estandarizada puede ser una eficiente estrategia para integrar plataformas de diseño y manufactura. Sin embargo, la aplicación de esta estrategia requiere del estudio y desarrollo de metodologías que permitan alcanzar la flexibilidad de diseño necesaria para obtener adecuados niveles de producción y personalización. En función de esto, este trabajo analiza las condiciones de modularidad observadas en cinco edificaciones construidas entre el 2002 y el 2016, con el propósito de estudiar los criterios de estandarización implementados. Para lograrlo, se hace un análisis de la modularidad subyacente en el diseño y las condiciones de variación o repetición presentadas. En este sentido, se observó el uso de criterios de modularidad distintos entre las primeras experiencias desarrolladas y las edificaciones más recientes, dados por el avance tecnológico de los últimos años. La investigación, permite aproximarse al entendimiento de las condiciones de modularidad asociadas a estas edificaciones, como aporte al desarrollo de metodologías que optimicen el diseño para la manufactura y ensamblaje.

Formation of multistory residential complexes for Nukus City

The article reflects the current state of housing construction in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and in the city of Nukus in a hot climate. The impact of the external environment of low-rise and multistory residential buildings, their description and their impact on the architecture of the buildings are considered. Targets and ways to improve housing projects have been identified.

The article presents the results of field studies, presents the processing of the resulting array of aggregated data. The results are presented that allow us to characterize the intensity of road transport on the considered section of the road network. The factors influencing the intensity of traffic flows and the required parking space are determined, the dependences of the intensity of individual motor transport on the area of multi-storey residential buildings, on the proportion of correspondence carried out by individual motor transport, on the distance from the city center are revealed.

The article considers the dependences of quantitative characteristics of the functioning of residential multi-storey buildings. The results of the analysis of experimental data on transport services for residents of multi-storey buildings are presented. The dependences between such factors as the area of the object, the average proportion of visitors using individual transport for individual use, the average duration of parking and the required parking area of multi-storey residential buildings are determined. The article presents the developed mathematical dependence, with the help of which the required parking space area is calculated, which takes into account the duration of parking, the specific generation of correspondence, the proportion of visitors on individual transport and its filling.

MAIN PROBLEMS OF SEISMIC RISK REDUCTION DUE TO INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL STRUCTURAL PROPORTIONS’ MASS VIOLATIONS IN MULTISTOREY RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS CARRIED OUT BY THE POPULATION

One of the factors to determine the high level of seismic risk in the city of Yerevan is the insufficient seismic resistance of residential buildings, the important characteristics of which are the quality of construction and proper operation of the building. The exclusion of residents' "unauthorized reconstructive interventions" became a pressing security concern. In this regard, it’s very important to urgently adopt and strictly enforce the law on the prohibition of the legalization of unauthorized buildings and redevelopment of residential premises. This article discusses the problems of seismic risk reduction associated with massive violations of the internal and external structural proportions of multi-storey residential buildings carried out by the population, and indicates ways to eliminate these violations.
