Arem wennu Raem (admiration or respect): A phenomenological understanding of Ilocano courtship

The study was conducted to determine the real meaning of "panagarem" in the concept of Ilocano and its evolution, ways, and practices through the years. This study employed phenomenology using individual interviews. There were 4 participants from each generation. The study revealed that panagarem” plays an essential role in understanding the deeper meaning of Ilocano courtship with new strategies in the courting of the Ilocanos, whether traditional or modern style. The custom of Ilocano panagarem requiring a certain man to work for the woman’s family was a “long, arduous, and expensive process of courting. A series of friendly dates is the normal starting point in the Ilocano way of courting, and it is usually beginning with “sinuron” or the process of teasing, a process of pairing off a potential couple. Moreover, material things are the basis of settling down, because they are focused on the idea of stability. However, some of the previous practices are not going away; they use them until now. However, some practices have been added because of technology and social media platforms. However, the bottom line here is that the respect and honor of the parents of the “Maarar-arem” are still practiced in different generations. That concludes that “Panagarem” is also “Panag- Raem.

Batik belongs to an Indonesian cultural heritage that has spread throughout the archipelago and produces various motifs displaying the characteristics of each region. Compared to other types of batik, written batik requires more patience and perseverance during the manufacturing process. The results of surveys conducted on five hand-drawn batik craftsmen in Samarinda, namely D'Five, Batik Putri Syafril, LKP Atiiqna, Lilis Batik, and Borneo Craft Indonesia, indicated that even though the times have been modern, the process of batik making still uses things at home without paying attention to convenience while doing batik activities. The design of this workstation aims to facilitate batik activities, especially at the stage of tracing the motifs onto the fabric and embroidering. The redesign of this batik workstation employed a design analysis by considering the needs, activities, systems, ergonomics, anthropometry, placement, materials, and colors through a qualitative method. This sort of method was carried out by observing problems directly at the location, conducting interviews with craftsmen, and documenting the tools used. The result of this research is the compilation of a workstation design prototype having a modern design style that highlights the functionality of the product. It focused on the process of tracing batik motifs from paper onto cloth and proceeding to the imprinting process, which can be done at one workstation. It presents the features of a tracing area that can be tilted according to tracing needs, the integration of a lightbox, and a focus lamp that can be turned on at any time, as well as innovations in cloth rollers and webbing to ease the cloth pulling and rolling.

Interior design and furniture in traditional dwellings in the old towns between modernity and preservation of cultural heritage (a special case in the old city of Hebron)

This paper discusses the repercussions, challenges, and conditions imposed by the living occupancy in traditionaldwellings with the signature spatial organization in the old cities in general and in the Old City of Hebron/Palestinein particular. moreover, this paper examines the interior design of these dwellings in terms of floors, woodenfurniture fixed or movable, facilities such as bathrooms and kitchens, the distribution of furniture and its shape anddesign, furthermore, illustrate the problem that is caused by living in traditional dwellings built in ancient time,containing patterns of spatial designs that were of use in the past but no longer suit the current needs of theinhabitants and modernity. many building foundations in this paper go back to the Mamluk period, However, therest of them goes back to the Ottoman period. This paper aims to study the possibility of adapting the characteristicsand components of traditional dwellings and formulate new models and solutions that enable the inhabitants of thesedwellings to live in them while providing comfort and well-being without having to resort to the destruction andtotal removal of the internal components or replacing them with the modern style, which may not suit the aestheticsand structural feature. in addition, maintain its heritage value, by applying several measures that ensure the bestresults, within an objective analytical methodology including identifying a few selected models of traditionaldwellings, conducting a study, and inheriting it, to reach results advancing the preservation of the cultural heritageand achieving sustainability.

AESTHETIC AND STYLISTIC FEATURES OF MUSICAL MODERN STYLE IN THE OPERA THE NIGHTINGALE BY I. F. STRAVINSKY

The article reveals the signs of musical modern manifested in Igor Stravinsky's opera The Nightingale . The modern style declared itself in the works of Russian composers of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, including Stravinsky. The aesthetic principles of the modern style, such as the cult of beauty, the tendency to synthesize the arts, conventions, interest in orientalism, fairy-tale plots, originated in painting, found the expression in music. It is shown that the opera Nightingale becomes one of the samples of the modern style in Russian music, which is manifested in the structure of the work, its thematic invention, rhythm and texture. The composer's appeal to an exotic theme allows him to create a bright coloristic musical picture in which the visual component is of great importance. The fairy-tale plot puts an imprint of conventionality on the performance. The composition is dominated by three-part structures, which demonstrates the desire for concentricity. The decorative nature of the modern style is manifested in the appearance of ornamental features in the melodic line of the vocal part of the Nightingale, which is a combination of flexible, plastic lines. It is shown that the style of the opera changes due to a long break between the creation of the first and subsequent actions. The composer's words confirm the fact that the experience of creating his ballets, which participated in S. P. Diaghilev's Ballets Russes , influenced the formation of the musical canvas of The Nightingale . The stylistic heterogeneity of the opera does not contradict the aesthetic attitudes of the modern style. The opera symbolizes the transition from the composer's style, based on the experience of his predecessors, to the search for updated means of expression.

INFLUENCE OF THE UKRAINIAN ETHNO-STYLE ON THE COMPETITIVENESS OF HOTEL AND RESTAURANT ENTERPRISES

Objective. The objective of this article is to analyze the Ukrainian ethno-style in the interior design of the hotel and restaurant industry, as well as its impact on the competitiveness of enterprises. The article examines the history and development of the Ukrainian ethno-style, its main characteristics and methods of use in the interior design of hotel and restaurant enterprises, as well as the competitive advantages it provides as a result of hotel and business activities. Examples of the use of the Ukrainian ethno-style in implemented projects are also given and the advantages that can be obtained from its use are described. In order to raise awareness about the cultural heritage of Ukraine, the article provides readers with information about the possibilities of using the Ukrainian ethno-style in the interiors of hotel and restaurant enterprises and its importance for creating a unique atmosphere and identity and using its influence to increase the competitiveness of the enterprise. Methods. The main research methods used are the analysis of design projects and literary sources related to the topic of the article. The study is based on the analysis of various design projects that use the Ukrainian ethno-style in the interior of the hotel and restaurant industry. Examples of well-known projects and design studios from different parts of Ukraine are analyzed. An analytical method is also used to describe and analyze the main characteristics of the Ukrainian ethno-style in interior design and identify trends in the development of this style. In the process of the research, sources from scientific literature are used, as well as web resources dedicated to the topic of Ukrainian ethno-style in interior design. Results. As a result of the research, it was found that the Ukrainian ethno-style in the interior design of the hotel and restaurant industry occupies an increasingly important position in the modern world of design. This is due to the growing popularity of Ukrainian culture and the preservation of traditional folk motifs. The main features of the Ukrainian ethno-style in the interior are the use of wooden materials, embroidery, handwork, patterns and folk motifs in the decoration, which reflect the history and culture of Ukraine. The use of the Ukrainian ethno-style in the interior of the hotel and restaurant industry has a number of advantages, such as creating an authentic and cozy atmosphere that reflects the cultural heritage of Ukraine. In addition, such a design adds individuality and originality to the premises, attracting more customers to it. The main competitive advantages that can be obtained by an enterprise using such an interior design in its establishments are given. The design projects of hotels, restaurants and cafes using the Ukrainian ethno-style show that such a design can be successful both in traditional and modern styles. In particular, modern technologies and materials are used in interior design, which are combined with traditional folk motifs and embroideries.

“MODERN STYLE” IN THE ART OF VLADIMIR GORODETSKY

In the article, the researcher analyzed the works of the porcelain artist Vladimir Gorodetsky of the second half of the 1950s - the first half of the 1960s. He proposed an original version of the “modern style” corresponded the current trends of the “thaw” art. This period, insufficiently studied in the specialized literature, was important for the formation of artist’s individual style. The author revealed the thematic (creation of abstract and ornamental compositions, “modernist” landscapes, innovative interpretation of floral and zoomorphic motifs) and stylistic (concise coloring, monochrome covering, sgraffito technique) originality of the artist’s works in porcelain and ceramics during the “thaw” period. The researcher concluded that the artist’s manner had evolved from pictorial freedom and conventionality to decorative stylization, oriented towards the traditions of folk art, which would become characteristic of Vladimir Gorodetsky’s work in the late 1960s and 1970s.

Learning his tricks will help clinicians work more effectively with complex back injuries and tendon strains that dancers often experience. Social dancing is considered from different aspects: as a specific problem field, as a special socio-cultural technology, as a special socio-cultural institution and as a resource for the spatial development of socio-cultural activities. There is always a rule in culture: what is modern is in demand. But if previously something unchanged could be considered modern for many decades, today this term is much smaller: it is measured in years and even months. Purpose of the article. Find out the features of the kinesiology of “anti-gravity tilt” in dancing, using the example of Michael Jackson. Conclusions. The problems discussed in the article are important for the modern development of choreography, when it is no longer enough to simply move into music, but you also need to look for something new, philosophical. Dance, like other forms of art, provides an opportunity to express oneself, develop, achieve goals, and live in harmony with oneself and the world around us. Specifics of perception of historical and cultural heritage by generation Z in the conditions of network existence

The paper focuses on the issues of intercultural interaction in terms of the generational perception of various styles of musical and visual culture. Contrary to established opinion, Generation Z perceives various genres of art not through the prism of the determination of the youth subculture but as a cultural information array in general. The opposition of supporters of various musical and visual genres and styles of fine art is not typical for a significant part of Generation Z, which is associated with the features of the generation “living” in the digital environment and the specifics of the present stage of the information or digital society. The study involved students (aged 18–24) of the technical and humanitarian fields of training. The survey revealed that metamodern values were common among the younger generation. About half of the respondents identified themselves as citizens of the country, about a third referred to themselves as representatives of ethnicity or religion. As for cultural preferences, the majority showed a positive attitude towards various styles both in classical and modern musical and visual arts. Approximately equal shares of respondents regarded classical and modern art styles as their favorite styles. At the same time, the representatives of Generation Z involved in the survey did not have an opposition between supporters of various styles.

The research article is an effort to identify the features which are responsible to fetch changes in the historic character of these public spaces. The core objective of this paper is to review the causes of the transformation from traditional to modernity to provide social,Economic and environmental benefits to the public. Historic urban squares are sitting rooms for communal activities and symbolize the community in which they are positioned. Urbanization in the form of Urban sprawl shattered the historic environment and these squares / chowks were ruined and malformed into traffic islands. Case study method has been used to study the selected area, Regal Chowk Mall Road Lahore. The current situation of Regal Chowk reflects the amazing blend of traditional and modern architectural styles due to the increased commercialization. Analyzing the constraints, conclusions has been drawn to develop a framework for planned interventions in the historic urban environment.

Contrastive Learning between Classical and Modern Chinese for Classical Chinese Machine Reading Comprehension

By leveraging self-supervised tasks, pre-trained language model (PLM) has made significant progress in the field of machine reading comprehension (MRC) . However, in classical Chinese MRC (CCMRC) , the passage is typically in classical style, but the question and options are given in modern style. Existing pre-trained methods seldom model the relationship between classical and modern styles, resulting in overall misunderstanding of the passage. In this paper, we propose a contrastive learning method between classical and modern Chinese in order to reach a deep understanding of the two different styles. In particular, a novel pre-training task and an enhanced co-matching network have been defined: (1) The synonym discrimination (SD) task is used to identify whether modern meaning corresponds to classical Chinese. (2) The enhanced dual co-matching (EDCM) network is employed for a more interactive understanding of the classical passage and the modern options. The experimental results show that our proposed method improves language understanding ability and outperforms existing PLMs on the Haihua, CCLUE, and ChID datasets.

Extraordinary Modernism in The Reconstruction of The City Center of Le Havre on The Example of The Church of St. Joseph According to The Design of Auguste Perret

The aim of the work is to reread the extraordinary architectural, structural and aesthetic values of a sacred architectural object from the period of reconstruction of the city center of Le Havre. The research used the method: case study on a selected example of the church of St. Joseph. The scope of research included spatial and structural analyses and material solutions in the context of the reconstruction of the le Havre city centre area carried out in the current of academic modernism. Results: The church building, together with the town hall building and the cathedral, is one of the three main elements of the historical urban composition and the contemporary reconstruction of the city centre of Le Havre carried out by Auguste Perret. The church building in the style of academic modernism is still an inspiring and unusual example of the use of raw material, which are concrete and reinforced concrete in the implementation of a sacred object. The object is an example of modern construction thought, which also plays an artistic role in the creation of the form and interior of the object. The spatial, aesthetic and functional values of reinforced concrete construction and concrete detail are an enduring example of mastery of technology and implementation of spatial vision in this difficult and unattractive building material. To sum up, it should be stated that this object fits into the context of coherent and comprehensive thinking about sacred architecture and urban space reconstructed in reinforced concrete technology during the modernist period. It is a forgotten, but still extraordinary inspiration for contemporary needs in this area.

Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential of Artemisia dracunculus L. aqueousextract against acetic acid induced ulcerative colitis in male Wistar rats

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is one of the two types of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) which is increasing worldover due to modern life style. Patients with UC are prone to develop colorectal cancer. While the disease severity decides the treatment option, researchers look towards herbal medicines with anti-inflammatory properties for minimal or nil side effects. Artemisia dracunculus L., commonly called Tarragon, is a medicinal herb used in traditional Asian medicine mainly in Iran, India, Pakistan and Azerbaijan due to its special compounds. In this study, we tried to elucidate the effects of aqueous extract of tarragon on acetic acid induced ulcerative colitis (UC) in rats. Male Wistar rats were grouped into four groups of eight each viz., control; experimental control (UC was induced via luminal instillation of 4% acetic acid); and UC induced + aqueous tarragon extract (100 mg/kg) or prednisolone (2 mg/kg) orally for ten consecutive days. Tissue specimens were collected after the experimental period for evaluation of caspase-3 and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression by immunohistochemistry. Real-time PCR was used to monitor the levels of IL-1, IL-6 and TNF-α in colonic homogenates. Moreover, the levels of myeloperoxidase, nitric oxide and total antioxidant capacity were measured in colonic homogenates. The results showed that both treatment regimens could similarly reduce the severity of disease symptoms. Treatment with aqueous extract of tarragon caused a better improvement (P <0.05) in the levels of myeloperoxidase enzyme, and total antioxidant capacity of colonic homogenates compared to prednisolone. Nevertheless, the levels of the expression of caspase-3, and COX-2 and TNF-α were reduced in UC rats received prednisolone more than UC rats received aqueous extract of tarragon. The was no statistical difference in the levels of nitric oxide, IL-1 and IL-6 between UC rats received tarragon extract or prednisolone. Overall, these findings suggest that the aqueous extract of tarragon is a promising strategy to control ulcerative colitis. Aqueous extract can also be used as an anti-inflammatory and immune system stimulant in conditions where the immune system is damaged.

Selection and Application of Quantitative Indicators of Paths Based on Graph Theory: A Case Study of Traditional Private and Antique Gardens in Beijing

Chinese Traditional Gardens (CTGs) are an important part of China’s cultural inheritance from the past. Today’s China has experienced rapid urbanization, raising the need for a new form of contemporary gardens intended to satisfy peoples’ need for traditional culture. Garden paths are important in CTGs; they are designed to show visitors changing views with each step, and to lead them to secluded, quiet places via winding paths. This enhances the ornamental interest of the gardens. Based on plane graphics, this study evaluates the characteristics of three types of garden paths in fourteen traditional gardens and a contemporary antique garden, the Daguan Garden in Beijing. The analysis uses correlation and factor analysis to integrate 28 quantitative path indicators into five aspects of average, scale, network, wide, and aggregation. The 28 indicators can be expressed by six simple indicators: average connection length, number of path sections, alpha index, average width, average tortuous angle, and concentration degree. The results show small variations of garden paths between traditional gardens, but a considerable difference between the contemporary garden and traditional gardens. The research proposes a framework for the quantification and comparison of garden path features that can be applied before and after garden path construction, for both ancient and modern garden styles. This framework generates garden path feature values and theoretical values of six indicators, and is not constrained by the garden scale. Therefore, it provides an accurate and efficient design tool for garden designers.

The Poetics of Body: Representing Cultural Imaginations in Yang Jung-Ung’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream"

This article explores the psychology that motivates Yang Jung-Ung and his actors in the process of translating Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream into a Korean style. By focusing on the ways of showing the theme of the play in modern styles fused with traditional modes of theatrical practice, the director attempts to develop his own ways of expression to communicate with the modern Korean audience. In this process, Yang reconstructs the dialogues between the characters rather than rely heavily on Shakespeare’s text and language. For this reason, his production has often been criticised for missing Shakespeare’s poetry. However, the beauty of poetry is not only in Shakespeare’s language itself, but rather it is in the mental process of how the artist and audiences understand and translate its meaning in their cultural contexts. Shakespeare’s language includes a great deal of imagery that provides the artists with concrete information for constructing the stage mise-en-scène. In Yang’s production, Shakespeare’s poetry is expressed through the visual images created by the performer’s physical bodies, which reflects the director’s interpretation of the play in his cultural context. By analysing the performers’ physical movements, this article studies how Yang perceives the theme of Shakespeare’s Dream in relation to a Korean cultural context and presents his unique vision on the play.

To what extent a modern teaching style benefits students? Why do teachers act the way they do?

AbstractBackgroundThe growth of teaching practices conducted to promote cognitive activation and active participation in the classroom in recent years has become the epicentre of an active debate regarding their effectiveness.ObjectivesThis study is aimed to shed some light on this topic by empirically analysing the causes and consequences of more modern strategies in Spanish secondary schools.MethodsThe database used in the study was PISA 2018. In order to analyse the causes behind the teaching style followed by teachers, a logit model was used. Likewise, to analyze the consequences that a modern teaching style has on students at the age of 15, we used propensity score analysis techniques.Results and ConclusionsRegarding the results obtained through a logit model, it is shown that the likelihood of a modern teaching style decreases if teachers work for a state school or if they usually apply traditional strategies. Similarly, this series of practices are shown to be more common in schools where teachers and students make greater use of digital devices. The second section of results, focused on analysing the effect this type of teaching strategies has on cognitive, non‐cognitive and wellbeing among students, show that, on the one hand, modern teaching style negatively affects students' performance in mathematics, science or language. On the other hand, modern teaching style has been shown to contribute to improving the students' well‐being, motivation and cooperation, only being significant the latter. Moreover, this teaching style contributes to reducing bullying among students.

Poetry is a literary work that contains the outpouring of the heart or the expression of feelings with imaginative words that are poured into a piece of writing. Poetry is bound by rhythm, dimension, rhyme, as well as the arrangement of lines and stanzas. This article discusses the meaning of the poem "Kangen" by WS. Rendra uses a metaphorical figure of speech. In addition, W.S. Rendra packs poetry with a very modern style of writing and there is a typographical style of writing. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. This study focuses on the style of language used and the analysis of the meaning of the poem.
