We examine the pattern of SU(3) symmetry breaking in baryon-baryon scattering processes. In the case of the longer range pseudoscalar meson exchanges, we find that the SU(3) breaking is primarily confined to diagonal transitions ΛN → ΛN and ΣN → ΣN. Charge exchange processes, namely Σ − p → Σ 0 n, Λn, suffer only minimal SU(3) violations, after correction for kinematical factors. For short range interactions mediated by single gluon/quark exchange, we find a similar conclusion; i.e., symmetry breaking is principally confined to diagonal transitions. In this case, SU(3) symmetry breaking is introduced by taking the mass of the s quark to be different from that of u and d quarks. We extend our previous SU(3) analysis to the strangeness - 2 sector.
