Leading Commodities of Food Crops and Plantation Subsector in Pinrang District

<p>This study aims to determine the food crop and plantation subsectors which are the leading subsectors in Pinrang District. The determination analyzed using the Location Quotient method which produces commodities classified as a base or non-base commodities which can contribute to increasing farmer income and regional income. The data sources used are primary data from interviews with farmers while secondary data on food crop and plantation production in Pinrang District for five years (2013-2017) were obtained from the Agriculture Service and BPS of Pinrang District. The results show thatthe food crop subsector is a base commodity and is very potential, namely wetland paddy and maize which have a base area in five sub-districts in Pinrang District. Whereas in the plantation sub-sector which is the basis, namely coconut, coffee, and cocoa, although the highest LQ value is in coffee commodities in Lembang subdistrict. Thus, commodities in the food crops and plantation sub-sectors are basic commodities that are worth developing. Pinrang District is one of the rice barns in South Sulawesi, which holds the position of Pinrang District as a potential producer of food crops. In addition to wetland paddy, other food crops produced are maize and beans. The most dominant plantation crops in Pinrang District are coconut, coffee, and cocoa, which are excellent crops.</p>

Comparative Study of Superior Potential of Community Forest for Priority Development in Central Java Province

Deforestation rates of forest areas due to over functions of the area are one of the causes of declining production of natural forest timber. The Government of Indonesia via Ministry of Environment and Forestry made the solution to meet the needs of timber with the development of centers of wood production from private forests. This study aims to identify potential areas of community forests that have comparative advantages for development priorities in Central Java. The data used is the growth of private forest area in Central Java Province during 2011-2015. Data analysis using Location Quotient (LQ) and Specialization Quotient (SQ) method. The result of the research showed that the community forest sector in Central Java is not a specialized sector. There are 18 regencies/cities as potential forest area are Purbalingga District, Kendal District, Salatiga City, Purworejo District, Banjarnegara District, Sukoharjo District, Cilacap District, Sragen District, Pekalongan District, Wonogiri District, Temanggung District, Magelang District, Wonosobo District, Karanganyar District, Boyolali District, Batang District, Banyumas District and Pati District with total area of 456,575.85 Ha which can be a priority in developing community forest in Central Java.

Identification of potential locations and factors for coffee agro-industry development in Argopuro mountain, Jember

Argopuro mountain in Jember district, East Java, has the potential to develop coffee agroindustry. The areas include Arjasa, Sukorambi, Panti, Bangsalsari, Tanggul and Sumberbaru sub-districts. This research was conducted to determine potential coffee-producing locations for coffee agro-industry development. The research was quantitative and qualitative research using location quotient (LQ) method, then for region with highest LQ value, then factors identified for development coffee agroindustry using factor analysis with KMO and Bartlett's Test. The highest LQ results were found in Bangsalsari sub-district which (5.02). Identification of factors affecting the development of coffee agro-industry in the Bangsalsari contained 9 factors, namely education, members farmer group, institutions, marketing, quality, area, production, capital and technology. Analysis of factor obtained the KMO value of 0.590, significance value of Bartlett's Test, and Sphericity was 0.001. The factor analysis was appropriate for coffee agroindustry development and results of anti-image matrices obtained 5 factors, namely marketing (0.737), quality (0.709), production (0.707), capital (0.673) and technology (0.633). These factors influence the development of coffee agro-industry in Argopuro mountain area Jember.

Using Location Quotients to Determine Public–Natural Space Spatial Patterns: A Zurich Model

The layout relationship between the public space system and the natural system of cities determines the trend of urban spatial forms. From the perspective of the integration of landscape architecture and urban design discipline, this paper generalizes three restriction/dependence relationship modes between urban public space and natural landscape layout: (1) overlapping mode, (2) separation mode, and (3) the mode of edge combination. Using Zurich, Switzerland, as a case study, this paper quantitatively explores the layout relationship between public space and natural landscape using the location quotient method. The research findings reveal an obvious layer distribution trend of Zurich urban public space and natural factors: the public space and mountain layout have a clear separation relationship. The regressive equation is PQ = −0.188lnMQ + 0.660, forming the mutually supplementary mechanism of the advantageous resources of public activities. The Zurich model shows that when a proper relationship is established among the natural system and the urban public space, human activities, and the public activity centers of the city, the new system provides significant ecological and social benefits. This finding provides an exemplary reference for urban construction in other countries.

Determining strategies for water, energy, and food-related sectors in local economic development

Water, energy, and food (WEF) related sectors are important to support people’s life in a region. Resource evaluation is one of the stages in resource management to ensure that the existence of those sectors is provided sustainably. The assessment of the agglomeration level and growth of each sector in economic development can give better insights for local stakeholders either government bodies or private firms to improve sustainable management of these sectors. The objectives of this paper are to portray the agglomeration level and recent growth of WEF related sectors in local regions in Indonesia, and to determine possible sustainable development strategies. The location quotient (LQ) and competitive position (CP) analysis methods are employed in this regard. By analysing Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) between 2000 and 2015, basic and non-basic sectors have been determined. Results show that the general characteristics of WEF related sectors in this region can be distinguished clearly based on its main economic development focus. Results show recent growth in WEF sectors locally, from which possible strategies for future sustainable development are formulated that could be considered in the evaluation and planning process. This approach can be expected to assist local government and stakeholders in undertaking preliminary evaluation, in particular the availability of WEF resources, ensuring that development meets local and national sustainable development targets.

The Study of Leading Subsector and Leading Commodities of Agricultural in Anambas Islands Regency, Riau Islands Province

Indonesian government is currently implementing regional development emphasizing on the characteristic and potential strength of each region. This program will be more optimal if conducted based on the introduction of the leading potential along with its use by maintaining the environmental sustainability. This research is aimed to (1) identify the basis/leading and non-basis/non-leading of agricultural sub-sector and its commodities; (2) to classify the pattern of sub-sector growth and agricultural commodities. The data used was time series consisting of secondary data from Anambas Islands Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in accordance with the basic constant price in 2010 and the production value data of agricultural commodity during 2010-2015. The data analysis by Location Quotient (LQ) and Typology Klassen method. The analysis result shows that the sub-sectors of food crops, plantation, and fishery are the basis sub-sector (LQ > 1). The commodities of wetland paddy, sweet potato, mustard, water spinach, spinach, pineapple, banana, coconut, clove, cow (cattle) and kampong chicken are the basic commodities (LQ > 1). According to the analysis of Klassen Typology, the sub-sectors of food crops and plantation crops are included in leading and fast-growing classification (rik > riand Yik> Yi), while the commodities of wetland paddy, sweet potato, mustard, spinach, and coconut are included in the leading and fast-growing commodities.

(STRATEGIC AREA OF TOURISM NATIONAL (KSPN): CONTRIBUTION OF REVENUE AND DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

Based on Government Regulation No. 50 of 2011, Kerinci Regency of Jambi Province belongs to the National Tourism Strategic Area of 2010 - 2025. The natural beauty of Kerinci Regency has the most tourist destination in Jambi Province. Increasing the number of tourist destinations and the determination as a National Tourism Strategic Area should be accompanied by an increase in Local Revenue from the tourism sector to become the leading sector in Kerinci Regency in the future. The purpose of this study is to see the potential of the tourism sector in Kerinci Regency to be a leading sector so as to provide the economic impact on the Local Revenue and how tourism development strategy in Kerinci Regency. Research method with descriptive analysis of secondary data during the period of 2010 - 2014, analysis tool used Location Quotient Method, Dynamic Location Quotient and Specialization Index. SWOT analysis is used for analysis of tourism sector development strategy. Research results show that the tourism sector has not become a leading sector, but is a prospective sector to be developed in support of economic development and increase the income of Kerinci district in the future. The contribution of the tourism sector to the Original Revenue in the study period was only 0.57% or relatively non-contributing. The future development strategy focused on improving the uniqueness of Kerinci regency as a tourist destination through; Development of Community Based Tourism Area, Community Awareness Tourism, Tourism Product Diversification which can be Typical Region, Growing Aware Movement of "Tradition of Mudik / Pulang Kampung", Preserving Local Culture as Tourism Unique and Increasing promotion and publication.

Potency Analysis for Agro Science Techno Park Area Development Plan in Gorontalo Province

Global competitiveness index report in 2015 has put Indonesia in the 30th rank on one of the research collaboration performance between university and industry as innovation pillar. This indicates that there is still lack of synergy between higher education institutions and industry to develop research output. As the answer to this challenge, the Indonesian government initiated the establishment of Science Techno Park (hereafter, STP) as business technology incubator to stimulate and to manage the flow of knowledge and technology in universities, research and development institutions, industry, and government. However, among eight existing STP and 78 more that were planned to be built, Gorontalo, as an agricultural province with the potential to develop agro STP, was not among them. This study is aimed at examining the area potentials, potential commodities, and agro-industry potentials that are feasible for developing a pilot area for agro STP in Gorontalo province as a basis for implementation of agro-industry cluster policy to strengthen the regional innovation system in Gorontalo province. The data were collected from survey and focus group discussion (FGD). The data were analyzed by using Location Quotient Method and Exponential Comparison Method. The results reveal three potential agro-industry regency areas; Gorontalo Regency, Boalemo Regency, and Gorontalo Utara Regency as well as seven leading commodities for these potential areas; corn, coconut, marine fisheries, cocoa, beef cattle, cassava, and chili. Further, for agro-industry, the most dominant potentials to be developed are flour, beef floss, chips, handicraft, and animal feed.

Strategi Pembangunan Sektor Kelautan dan Perikanan Berbasis Wilayah pada Satuan Wilayah Pengembangan (SWP) Bagian Selatan Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan

Regional-based development of the marine and fisheries sector has undergone a change in its way of thinking from mainland-oriented to marine-oriented with the concept of sustainable development. In the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) of South Sulawesi Province 2009 until 2029, the southern Regional Development Unit (SWP) covers Jeneponto regency, Bantaeng regency, Bulukumba regency and Selayar Islands regency, which have very potential marine and fisheries sector. This research aims to determine the potential of the marine and fisheries sector in the southern SWP of South Sulawesi Province, to determine the hierarchy of development centers of marine and fisheries sector in the region, and to understand the regional-based development strategies of marine and fisheries sector. The methods used are quantitative analysis utilizing Location Quotient (LQ), Shift-Share, Scalogram, and Strength Weakness Opportunity Threat (SWOT) methods. Results of the analysis shows that leading sector in Jeneponto regency is fishponds, in Bantaeng regency is sea cultivation, in Bulukumba Regency are sea cultivation, fishponds and ricefields, mean while in Selayar Islands regency is capture fishery. As for development centers of the marine and fisheries sector, in Bulukumba regency is classified as hierarchy 1, Bantaeng regency as hierarchy 2, Selayar Island regency as hierarchy 3, and Jeneponto regency as hierarchy 4. Development strategy of marine and fisheries sector at the southern SWP South Sulawesi Province is based on the region and local economy.

Economic base determination and influence of several variables against contributions percentage of the GDRP in Aceh Besar district

The percentage contribution of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in Aceh Besar district is influenced by several leading sectors, such as agriculture, building sector, trade, hotel and restaurant sector, transport and communications, financial sector, leasing and business services, and services sector. Based on the use of Location Quotient (LQ) method and multiple regression model, the effect of labor variables and population to Gross Regional Domestic Product by 2000 constant prices for agriculture and trade. For each addition of one workforce in the trading sector, the trade sector contribution will increase by 0.000014157%. Thus, the trade sector contribution will increase by 0.0000013786% in every addition of one soul of the population. Whereas, for every addition of one human resource in the agricultural sector will be reduced by 0.0002%. In other words, for each addition of one soul of the population will reduce the contribution of the agricultural sector by 0.00008611%.

Eksistensi Sektor Pertanian dalam Struktur Perekonomian Kabupaten Bangli

The Existence of Agricultural Sector in Bangli Regency Economic Structure
 Contribution of agricultural sector to economy of Bangli Regency has decreased during 2011-2015 with relatively slow growth. This condition indicates that there has been a structural transformation of the economy, therefore it is necessary to analyze the existence of agricultural sector in terms of its current and future role whether it is still a leading sector or will turn into non-leading sectors. This study uses secondary data in the form of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by industry of Bangli Regency and Bali Province in 2011-2015. The data were collected by using document study and analyzed by Location Quotient, Dynamic Location Quotient and Total Shift Share method. The results showed that the agricultural sector is the basis sector in Bangli Regency today and in the future. While the sub sectors in agricultural sector that become the basis is seasonal horticultural crops, annual horticulture and other crops, livestock and forestry and logging. Sub sectors in agriculture sector which are predicted to change the role in the future are food crops, annual plantation and fishery that changes role become basis sector were caused by the location factor. While the annual horticulture sub-sector and livestock are changed into non-basis sub-sectors were caused by the economic structure factor.

Analisis Location Quotient dalam Penentuan Sektor Basis dan Non Basis di Kabupaten Gorontalo

Identifying basic sectors and sub-sectors is one of stages to plan strategic area expansion for the centre of economy growth. Therefore, Location Quotient Analysis is needed to understand how far the level of specialization of economy sectors in particular area in utilizing its basis sectors or leading sectors. Basic sectors can be determined by using Location Quotient (LQ) method. Variables used to calculate basis economy are from local GDP of an activity focused on activities in the local economy structures. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is an important indicator to understand economy condition particularly in Gorontalo Regency in particular period, either based on current prices or constant price. Data collection process done by using secondary data survey based on documents from Statistics of Gorontalo Regency and Statistics of Gorontalo Province. From 2012 up to 2016, processing industry sectors and service sectors have been stable basis in terms of improving LQ value and its GDP in an analysis period. This can be possible that those two sectors have contributed on the improvement of GDP of Gorontalo Regency including all other sectora that also become basis such as Mining and Excavation sector, agriculture sector and others.

Economic Base Analysis of Water-Energy-Food Sectors Using Location Quotient Techniques: A Case of West Java Province

Water, energy and food are the most crucial sectors to be developed due to its importance for human life. The availability, accessibility, and quality of those three commodities have to be ensured for the whole people in a region. This research was conducted to study the existence of water, energy and food related sector compare with other sectors in West Java Province by using one of economic base approaches so called Location Quotient (LQ) method. By analysing gross regional domestic products (GRDP) year 2011-2015 at constant 2010 market prices, basic and non-basic sectors have been determined. The results show how the static and dynamic location quotient (SLQ & DLQ) analysis were effective to figure out general situation and characteristic of basic and non-basic sector in this region. This composite approach is expected to assist local government and stakeholders in undertaking preliminary evaluation in particularly water, energy and food sectors evaluation to improve their security. Furthermore, water, energy, and food related sectors mostly in quadrant III and IV, indicating that serious actions have to be taken particularly by local government to improve production of those basic commodities. Integrated measures are expected to maintain their availability in the forthcoming years.

Impact analysis of leading sub sector on basic sector to regional income in Siak Regency, Riau Province

During this time Siak regency only known as oil producing regency in Riau province, but based on the vision of spatial planning Siak’s regency in 2031 there was a shift from petroleum towards to other sectors such as agribusiness, agroindustry and tourism. The purpose of this study was to identify the sector base, the leading subsectors and shift with their characteristics and to identify the leading subsectors development priority. The method used in this research consisted of the method of Location Quotient (LQ, Shift Share, and Overlay method). The research results were used Location Quotient (LQ) to identify sector’s base in Siak regency based on the document of PDRB. The sector’s refers to the constant prices year of 2000 were mining and quarrying sector (2.25). The sector’s base using document of PDRB at constant prices 2000 without oil and gas sector was the agricultural sector with a value of LQ was 2,45. The leading sub sector in the Siak regency with mining and quarrying sector was oil and gas (1.02) and leading sub sector without oil and gas sector was the plantation sector (1.48) and forestry sector (1.73). Overlay analysis results shown that agriculture sector as a sector base and plantation and forestry as a leading sub sector has positive value and categorize as progressive and competitiveness. Because of that, this leading sub sector gets high priority to developing.

Classification of sub-sectors in creative industry for regional economic development

Creative industry represents a range of industrial activities that utilize creativity, skills, and personal ability for job creation and economic development of region. A critical step to develop and sustain the competitiveness of the industries is identification process of the sub sectors of the creative industry in a particular country or region. To obtain a better clsassification and region development priorities, this study adopts location quotient (LQ) and ant colony optimization (ACO) approaches, taking Jember as a case in this study. With many indicators, LQ method can classifiy a sector into more than one classification but it describe region demograph. ACO method have an acurate result of classification with many indicators but it doesn’t describe the demography of the region. The use of LQ-ACO method can support the government to develop a more feasible classification for the creative industry of sub sector and region priorities.

Analysis of the potential contribution of forestry sub-sector in economic and development in daerah istimewa yogyakarta province

The forestry sub-sector is one of the subsectors of the agricultural sector that has an opportunity to support the economic development program, contribute to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and reduce unemployment rate in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (hereafter, DIY Province). The economic growth of DIY Province in 2012-2016 for the forestry sub-sector tends to increase. The objective of this research is to identify and analyze the opportunities of the forestry sub-sector to be used as a reference and as a regional leading sector for improving the economy in DIY Province. This research uses a descriptive analytical method. Location Quotient (LQ) method, modification LQ (Revised LQ and Symmetric LQ) are tools of analysis. The data used is some data from GRDP in the year 2012-2016 based on the fixed price in the year 2010. Based on the calculation of LQ, SLQ and RLQ analysis where obtained LQ value equal to 1.23, RLQ of 1.23 and SLQ of 0.10 indicates that the forestry sub-sector can still be expected to be the regional leading sector in the future to increase economic growth in DIY Province. The forestry sub-sector has potential to become the leading sector in Gunungkidul Regency and Kulonprogo Regency.

Analysis of Bratislava and Žilina as urban areas in Western Slovakia in the context of associations among employment and industries

Research background: This paper observes especially the position of cities, urban areas in the context of global value chains ? GVCs. Global value chains reflect specialization and labour division of companies, mostly multinational enterprises ? MNEs. MNEs can be considered flagships of some industries. Such flagships influence suppliers and purchasers. MNEs are a part of networks or have got access to such networks that combine dispersion of the value chain, the boundaries of the firm and across national borders.
 Purpose of the article: The impetus for this work was to look at the position of Slovak cities (Bratislava, Žilina) in order to look for sectors that can help to develop the city and its adjacent regions, particularly cross-border regions. The paper discussed how the attribute of the cross-border regions gives the cities more advantageous position in GVCs.
 Methodology: Applying the method of location quotient allowed to shed a light on the GVCs, which cities participate in. Some cities were in a position to take advantage of participation in GVCs.
 Findings & Value added: Examined cities are located in the western part of the Slovak Republic. Discussion about the attribute of the cross-border regions can stimulate new ideas for finding causalities in city sprawl or in specialization patterns in the industrial structure of the city. Discussion further fosters the comparison of two cities strengths and weaknesses of each of them that were summarized in terms of employment and industrial exploitation of GVCs. This is the first finding and value added of the paper. The second one is that the method of location quotient is simple but provides clear evidence of the regional development or decline in particular industries and at the time of observation.

Analisis Keunggulan Komparatif Sektor Peternakan Di Kabupaten Hulu Sungai Utara

This study aims to discuss the application of Location Quotient (LQ) method in identifying superior commodities of livestock sector of each sub-district in Hulu Sungai Utara Regency. The research method used is descriptive quantitative research method, the data collected in this research is secondary data, this research will identify and analyze superior commodity sector or livestock base. Data analysis using Location Quotient method. The results showed that the livestock population is said to be superior or base if it meets the criteria of basic commodities. Leading commodities of the livestock sector in Hulu Sungai Utara Regency cover buffalo cattle and ducks in Paminggir District

Trading system of food commodity in Central Java

Most of food commodities in the Central Java are produced and traded in the local market. The aim of this research is to analyse internal and external factors determining trade of food commodities and analyse its trade model in Central Java. Research data consist of both primary and secondary that were analysed according to SWOT and Location Quotient (LQ) methods. The analysis of internal factors suggests that the availability and the quality of food commodities as well as the regulations related to traditional markets still need to be improved. The analysis of external factors proves that the local production is subject to be increased. Based on LQ results it shows that the agricultural sector in Central Java is highly specialised and has a strong base sector.

ANALYSIS OF MAIN COMMODITY IN HULU SUNGAI SELATAN PROTECTED FOREST MANAGEMENT UNIT MODEL

The objective of the research is to identify which main commodity crops can be developed in three sub- districts, within KPHL Model Hulu Sungai Selatan. The research was carried out during July to December 2016 in three sub-districts, namely: Loksado; Padang Batung; and Telaga Langsat, located within Hulu Sungai Selatan, South Kalimantan. Primary data and secondary data were collected during this research. Secondary data, in the form of time series which includes forest product and horticultural commodities data (food crops, palawija crops, vegetables) during the period of 2011-2015, which refer from Statistics Indonesia (Central Bureau of Statistic). Location Quotient (LQ) and Shif Share Analysis (SSA) method were used to analyze the collected data during this research. The result showed that food crops commodity and food crops sub-sector which become the main commodities of sub-districts within Hulu Sungai Selatan KPHL were peanuts in Loksado sub-district, cassava and paddy in Padang Batung sub-district. For the vegetable sub-sector, there was no main vegetable commodity because it only comparative or competitive advantage. For plantation and forestry commodities, the main commodities in Loksado sub-district were rubber and candlenuts, while for Padang Batung sub-district was rubber plant.
